Thanks to Nutty for all the thread suggestions including this one. I hope no one minds but I picked this one in honour of the brilliant race commentary we had from Nuts and Frekkles the other night. Hopefully we will get some more.

OP posts:

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 11:18

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 11:21

BB - not too bad ta didnt get much sleep last night but tis par for the course lol

AAAAHHHH HHHAAAAA so you are still competing i knew you wouldnt give up

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 11:25

I want this baby out!!! Seriously - I am willing to do anything now - I have 12 days until DD and to be honest am not sure I am willing to wait that long - let alone the prospect of another 2 weeks! so yes back in the race but not expecting to win!!!

Q can you give yourself a sweep???!!!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 11:27

BB probably, but may be easier to get your dh to do one. or mathsmummy may be able to help

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 11:37

ok typical - the mw just came while i was on my conference call so she is coming back tomorrow!! grrr!!!

Kalikaroo · 18/03/2009 11:38

Afternoon all! (Well, it is here anyway....)

Can't believe we already have so many mums that have popped! Big big congratulations Babypringle!

BabyBolat - not sure about the DIY sweep (I'm impressed that you can even contemplate doing it because there's NO way I could even remotely reach my cervix at the mo. Can barely sort myself out after going to the loo! oops a bit TMI there!)

Went for my pelvic xray this morning. The position I had to get myself into was not the most comfortable or dignified - had to lie on my back (not easy these days) with my arse on the xray plate. Then I had to bend my knees and open them wide with my feet together. Lovely crotch view! Glad I put on nice knickers.... Have to ring MW tomorrow to see what the measurements are. Fingers crossed everything is good for a natural birth. Good thing was that DH took me to the Chinese restaurant over the road from the hospital for lunch to cheer me up. Chicken egg fried rice - YUM! Poor dear is a bit stressed about all this palaver.

Some of those shoes are FAB! I don't wear heels much unless going somewhere nice because I have pretty flat feet and tend to live in my DMs (even for work ) but since they have miles of laces I just can't get them on and off these days, so have been wearing walking boot/trainery things instead. Comfy but a bit 'fragrant' (ahem...) at times, especially after wearing them all day...

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 11:39

Nightmare

BB - have you been crevix searching like the others?? cos a sweep wouldnt be much more difficult i dont think??

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 11:42

Kalikaroo - lol at crotch shot fingers crossed for the measurements being ok for you xx

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 11:46

so just a fiddle around up there should do the trick then smutts

am so annoyed as I specifically said DON'T come between 11.30 and 12!!

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 11:47

kalikaroo fingers crossed for tomorrow and lol at crotch shots!!!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 11:49

worth a shot Beebs

brettgirl2 · 18/03/2009 11:50

I don't fancy the sweep - having some woman fiddling around up there sounds rather embarrassing to me. My MW won't do them B4 41 weeks anyway because she thinks they don't make a difference any earlier.

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 11:53

brettgirl I am willing to try anything!!!

SpringySunshine · 18/03/2009 11:55

Auld, make some extra cakes for us, will you? They sound lovely.

Puzzle, it could've been worse - I could've won & then you'd be in second place. Terrible!

Ooh, nice boots! I'm somewhere between you & Boff in terms of the shoe & bag appreciation. I think I'd be a lot more interested if I had the money to be, but I tend not to torture myself.

I love ballet pumps! I find them to be really comfortable, if you get a good pair! Good doesn't necessarily mean expensive, either. It is a bit pot-luck (I haven't determined a pattern yet!) but there are definitely some comfy ones out there. & the comfy ones are so good!

Boffin, is it exciting playing with the birthing pool? Or does it still seem unreal? I don't even find washing baby clothes exciting because they seem like they're nothing to do with anything, but maybe that's just me?

Schulte, the dizziness thing sounds like you might be anaemic - get some iron tablets & eat lots of Rusks (any excuse!)

BLW = Baby Led Weaning. Mumsnet is one of the main forums anywhere on the internet for people who do it. So far as I can see it's giving your baby the same food as everyone else on the tray of their highchair, but cut up smaller. Then you just leave them to it & don't try to make them eat it, but let them try it if they want to. BLWers don't feed their children purees or anything like that - it's just exactly the same as the rest of the family. & apparently completely different to the idea of giving your baby 'finger foods', but I've not figured that one out yet

I see that other people answered that already, but I'm not deleting it [stubborn]

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 11:55

Brettgirl - when it comes down to birth time they will be sticking their hands up your fanjo willy nilly and checking dilation etc quite a bit so your embarrasment will go out the window (as will any shred of dignity ) sweeps are quick too.

SpringySunshine · 18/03/2009 11:57

Sweeps are meant to be quite uncomfortable if they're done properly - & apparently they only make any difference if you're on the verge of labour anyway (although your 'deeply engaged' thing sounds promising). Still, I think that's one thing that I may be leaving to the experts. I'd rather drink castor oil & that's saying something.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 11:59

BB - unfotunately though sweeps dont really do that much imo (sorry to burst your bubble ) i had one at 40 weeks and another at 41 weeks and dd came 2 weeks after due date, these babies are stubbourn and tend to come when they're good n ready.

SpringySunshine · 18/03/2009 12:02

I'm really annoyed today. Or maybe just upset. I don't know. I'm not good at isolating & naming emotions anymore.

DH found out a few weeks ago that if we sold our (rubbish!) car, we'd get £300 for it. If it had a renewed MOT certificate, it'd be more like £600.

I said that it would never pass the MOT (the door doesn't even shut properly, for a start) & to just get the £300 for it.

He, of course, knew better & had it MOTed & serviced this morning, costing £150ish. It's failed the MOT & will cost £480ish to put right. Obviously we won't pay that, but now we have paid out £150 & have a FAILED MOT instead of an OLD one.

Why won't he ever listen to me? Ever? I always say things that prove to be right, & he never listens. & we just can't afford this at all. We're really beginning to struggle. Like selling things, struggle. Our next loan instalments come through at the end of next month, but they have to see us through until after the summer - & we'll have a baby to support then, too. We will cope, but we're really not comfortable at the moment & I can't believe that he's shot us in the foot so badly

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 12:02

though i was meant to be induced on the day she was born (9am) and labour started at midnight the night before (phew). i like to think the induction word scared her out

brettgirl2 · 18/03/2009 12:04

Nutty I'm sure that what you say is true, but I would rather keep my dignity until labour

That's pretty well what the MW said.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 12:05

Springy - ((hugs)) in his mind he was probably just looking at the £600 jackpot. still not good to have spent out half of what you will be getting back xx

SpringySunshine · 18/03/2009 12:08

I know he was, but he's been so greedy about it & I told him that it would fail & it wasn't worth doing. I told him that.

& remember how he bought the other car despite not seeing any others, despite my advice? & how that car is now proving to be deeply unreliable & breaking down / not starting, so I can't even feel comfortable with the idea of relying on it to get me to hospital when I need to, because I might end up pushing a car between contractions? (That would never happen, obviously, but it'd be that sort of scenario.)

I really could just cry.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 12:13

men always think they know best when it comes to cars (well most do, luckily my dh is clueless) it's like its their territory/ proveing ground, car=cock and all that jazz so they tend not to listen.

still crappy not to have listened or checked out other cars though ((hugs)) i dont know what to say really as it's already been done (sorry not helpfull) xx

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 12:14

oh springy ((hugs)), I am with you - they can be so very stubborn sometimes but know how frustrating it is that it is ending up costing you so much more when you could have just left it! sorry he is being a douche bag!!!

Another question - why did you MOT cost 150? that seems a lot!!!

staryeyed · 18/03/2009 12:15

Hi all, just popping in to say hello. Congrats to the bumps that have become babies.

Really getting close now and We still have nowhere for the baby to sleep.

I knocked my bump last night as DS's nappy had leaked over the bed and I didn't want to turn the light on so I walked straight into the flipping door knob. Now have a little bruised bump. Phoned the midwives and the labour ward who seemed to think its nothing to worry about.

We now ave a short list of names but DP likes ones that are my least favourite and vice versa.
