Though I quite fancy a jacket potato now.

I've been wondering about dates and so on. If my original due date was the 10th, but it got brought back to the 1st after the 12 week scan, depending on how accurate dating is, I could end up being induced a little early. I won't be very impressed if I have to be induced at 42 weeks and miss out on the HB, and wonder if it's worth holding out a little longer? Obviously this is lunacy - there's no way I'm going to want to wait any longer. I just wonder how reliable the dating scan is?

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 16:18

And still I am sitting here with CAKE NOT BAKED.

Right. Turn computer off. I am not allowed back on until cake is in the oven.

BabyBolat · 16/03/2009 16:20

Ju, your 12 week scan becomes your official one and the one they compare against (according to my MW) you can also refuse induction I believe as long as the baby is not at risk so you can wait it out!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 16/03/2009 16:24

Custard mmmmmmmmmmmmm, biscuits yuuuuuummmmm dh is sooooooo getting sent to asda when he gets home!!!!!

BabyBolat · 16/03/2009 16:26

Oooh Nutty can you get him to buy me some of their own-brand pineapple juice and drop it up to hampshire - am addicted to the stuff!!!

LuLuBai · 16/03/2009 16:26

Yes, you can refuse induction but they make life very difficult for you (e.g.attending appointments at far flung clinics all over the place every single day etc etc).

I reckon I will go into labour on the 9th, which would be handy as DH will definitely be at home over easter (last time he had to work the day after I gave birth).

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 16/03/2009 16:30

BB lol will do

eeeeeerrrrrrghhhhh rice pudding!!!

yuk yuk yuk

BoffinMum · 16/03/2009 16:40

I went 18 days over with DS2. I didn't fancy induction because I reckoned it would be more painful and I am a coward. Nobody mentioned sweeps at all. They just offered me a quick scan done by the consultant at around 42 weeks to check the level of amniotic fluid, and my mw did extra ante-natal checks on me at home every couple of days, and everything was fine. They told me to come back when I was three weeks overdue, unless I got bored and wanted them to intervene before then.

Nobody can bully you into anything if you don't want them to. You can even ask your GP to do routine ante-natal checks if you like, as necessary.

LuLuBai · 16/03/2009 16:41

LOL - not to everyone's taste eh. Sorry BB.

Oh I love it though.

Oh I could eat a whole tin of Ambrosia rice pudding now - with a generous dollop of jam on top.

Or if being really indulgent one of those little pots of Rachel's Organic. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Carameli · 16/03/2009 16:41

I've been through labour with 2 and cannot remember what the plug was like for either of them??

Have another question for 2nd/3rd etc time mums here. A MW said that instead of maternity pads she knew someone who used newborn nappies as there was more coverage in that area and they were still soft.
Has anyone done this. I was about to put in my bulk buy boots order as I have done in the past to make sure I am stocked up with everything I need for a bit but thought I'd do a bit mroe research into this??

BabyBolat · 16/03/2009 16:43

I Love rachel's organic - yum yum!! but no for rice pudding - yuck yuck yuck!!NO!!

Boff do you reckon I can ask them to intervene now - sure a little sweep wouldn't hurt

bronze · 16/03/2009 16:44

Springy I've stopped I promise. My pelvis says no. Apart from dinner of course but now I'm going to try and catch up

BoffinMum · 16/03/2009 16:44

Nappies have things like gel and plastic in and might irritate your bits.

Maternity pads are specially developed with poor abused fanjos in mind and help prevent soreness and infection.

I'd stick to the proper product.

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 16:45

There. Done. The work of 20 minutes.

Mmmmm. Pineapple juice. I LOVE it!!! And rice pudding. Tinned or home made. I once had a friend who didn't know rice pudding came with a skin on it, as her so-called supercook mother actually always served up tinned! Ambrosia creamed rice.....yummy. Cold out of the tin. Or with chocolate powder stirred in to make chocolate rice pudding. Or with jam. Or golden syrup. yum yum yum yum yum.

I'm really not keen on the idea of induction. But the NCT teacher talked about the finite shelf-life of a placenta and how it will ultimately start to degrade and break down. Can they detect that on a scan? I understand you can have several sweeps before heading for pharmaceutical induction??

Carameli · 16/03/2009 16:45

sorry to butt in on the rice pudding conversation I hate the stuff but remember when I lived in Finland my friend had a little girl addicted to the stuff(they were English)and whenever I went back home I always got asked to bring Ambrosia back with me

BoffinMum · 16/03/2009 16:46

BB a sweep won't work unless you are ready to pop anyway. Or believe me, I would be stampeding you in the queue.

Best let nature take its course.

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 16:47
Carameli · 16/03/2009 16:47

good point Boffinmum I have only used Boots ones in the past are there any better out there or are they all much the same.

BoffinMum · 16/03/2009 16:48

They measure amniotic fluid on a scan, which is a good indicator of likely fetal health, I think. When I went last week they also looked at the position and relative size of the placenta.

BabyBolat · 16/03/2009 16:48

Juw I just did that for custard

BoffinMum · 16/03/2009 16:49

I have stocked up on Naturecare ones as they haven't got so much nasty bleach in them - I was finding normal sanitary products made my bits itchy and it took me a while to work out what was wrong, until DH of all people suggested these!

bronze · 16/03/2009 16:49

ooh do you reckon I'll get a scan at my cons. appointment next week?
