Morning all!

I got equally mystified by the reusable nappies and ended up with the first ones the lady in the shop recommended. This could easily have been because they were the most expensive ones, but we were completely clueless! They're supposed to last from newborn until....whenever it is children stop wearing nappies (ohgodohgodohgod am so clueless!).

I remember having chickenpox when I was about 9 and how horrible it was, But I got a lovely new summer dress out of it, as my Mom wanted to get me something nice and light and cool as it was summer. I lived in that dress!

I've just bought a Calin Bleu wrap sling, but I've no idea whether it's any good as 1) not arrived yet and 2) no baby to try out in it!

I agree with BB - I don't understand people who say they loved being pregnant. Most of it has been fairly innocuous, but I could happily live without the sickness, the heartburn, the inability to use any muscles between my collarbone and my fanjo etc. Maybe it's the rosy glow of time (the time when you had no DCs??) which makes people remember pregnancy so fondly!

minush · 16/03/2009 08:18

Re 'enjoying' pregnancy, it is relative and calibrated against how awful it can be for some. But I have enjoyed:
-Thick hair
-Not having to give a damn about my weight
-Not having to find clothes which hide my belly
-Eating 'for two'
-And, apart from the constant crushing weight of responsibility actually growing a person inside me.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 16/03/2009 08:19

morning! just checking in before i start catching up on a weekend's worth of thread!! eek! i'll be back in...say 2 hours or so.....

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 08:21

Though I do enjoy the whole concept of growing this teeny weeny thing inside me. Its just the sequelae that get me down! Especially as there are so many I haven't had that could be saved up for next time. Of the women I work with, I've seen them have: a premmie at 24 weeks, random pruritis, 3rd degree tear, ectopic, hyperemesis, gestational diabetes, obstetric cholestasis, need for anti-D injections....and that doesn't include all the new things I've since discovered here! But I know it must all be worth it for that first moment!

minush · 16/03/2009 08:22

Morning Juwesm. Calin Bleu sounds like a name thread possibility!

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 08:23

Minush - I do love the not caring about your weight thing. That is brilliant. I have quite enjoyed just wandering about looking like picture of fertile womanhood!

minush · 16/03/2009 08:25

Morning purple, GL with catch up

Juw, yep, I feel it would be tempting fate to get preggers again as I've got off relatively lightly so far (much touching of wood). Plus potential fallout from birth freaks me out a lot.

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 08:25
Juwesm · 16/03/2009 08:27

Indeed. Best to reserve judgement on the second time until the first one is actually out! But I am reassured that so many people do it again (and again and again), despite having a miserable time the first time.

minush · 16/03/2009 08:28

Ahh 'fertile womanhood' yes, that is exactly the image I had of myself, then yesterday my sensitive and loving DH took the piss out of my pregnant waddle and I've had to revise my self image somewhat. Luckily for him, it was a pretty funny imitation, and I wasn't feeling too sensitive at the time. Still he was skating on thin ice.

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 08:30

Fertile, waddling womanhood! Nothing wrong with that! I do try and glide serenely about with my bump poked out proudly, but I suspect your DHs imitation is probably closer to my reality!

minush · 16/03/2009 08:31

Re. that wonderful first moment: my Mum's first words on seeing her firstborn were 'God what an ugly baby, can I have a ciggy now? [hm]' She is not a total cow by the way, but had had a total nightmare of a labour

minush · 16/03/2009 08:32

I should point out that the firstborn was not me; I was OF COURSE a gorgeous cuddly and adorable baby

minush · 16/03/2009 08:34

Right DH has just got up, so I'm going to glide around the shops with him buying baby things.
I'm on a quest for a smuttily named baby sling.

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 08:37

Goodness. Have just read this article from one of the other threads. I think anyone who has been having a hard time with a DP should put this in their favourites. It doesn't matter what your DP has done, he can't be as much of an arsehole as this guy.

Minush, I do have a feeling I may be of the more pragmatic school of post-labour reactions, like your mother! I suppose it depends on how quickly that oxytocin surge kicks in!

bronze · 16/03/2009 08:38

The simon Jones article. I know I'm feeling grr about it too and about a couple of the posts.

bronze · 16/03/2009 08:40

Minush its nature btw

tristaleejac · 16/03/2009 08:53

Bloody hell what an arse! Thought that must be a joke or something, but no, just an absolute dick.
Well I'm glad I don't know anyone like that.

PuzzleRocks · 16/03/2009 08:54

Good morning

DD is back on track, yippee. 11 hours unbroken sleep the last two nights. I wish I could say the same.

Schulte - That looks fine to me. Just give it a good condition and comb. Classy tattoo as well.

Boff - I though your arse said PaddyPower? Mine endorses Willam Hill of course.

Swaliswan - I hope DD gets better soon and that you manage to rope in some help and get some rest. Take care.

PuzzleRocks · 16/03/2009 08:56

Ju - I was ranting over Sunday breakfast about that article. FFS grow up man.

tristaleejac · 16/03/2009 08:57

Morning puzzle

Juwesm · 16/03/2009 08:59

Morning Trista, Puzzle.

LuLuBai · 16/03/2009 09:13

Morning -nowhere near caught up on the weekend's chat but love Smutty's 'previously on April Mums' round up. Fantastic.

The Simon Jones article actually made me cry (hormonal, moi?). DH was the one ranting.

Off out to enjoy the sunshine with DD. Feeling very positive this morning. Building work going very well on our house. It's actually starting to look like a home. There is kitchen floor(hurrah) and some plumbing(yippee) and we should be able to move back the weekend after next (10 days before due date). There will still be stuff left to do - kitchen worktop not due to arrive for about another month for example. But bedrooms are all ready so next weekend we can start re-assembling beds and putting things in place. I can't wait to be able to start nesting!

tristaleejac · 16/03/2009 09:16

That sounds lovely lulu. It's great things are taking shape and moving forward.
Am jealous of your sunny day, it's raining here. Mind you we had fantastic sunshine for last 4 days so I supose I cant moan.

kazkiss · 16/03/2009 09:21

Hiya good morning... Gsh it takes me sooo long to catch up on the thread. Hope everyone is doing well?

Ju. it is a very wierd experience... as you know I had a very tough time being pregnant. (most the things you listed included me) but honestly as soon as that part is over you think it wasnt that bad. Lol definately selective amnesia. I was also paraniod that all the ailments would continue after I had given birth lol. That I would still throw up, itch etc but they all stopped instantly. I had convinced myself that my body had learned these habits and that they were not connected to pregnancy at all. lol

/not long now though 2 weeks to go.,,,

Update on twinkies....

Both doing well. both in cots now. just need to get feeding sorted then home so hopefully just a couple of weeks.

Not sure how to post piccis will learn later.
