oh bekka that's a genius idea. Keep him occupied by making cakes then you get to eat them afterwards. That's such a brilliant plan, I may have to steal it! (I adore chocolate crispie cakes anyway. Or indeed any kind of cake is more than welcome).
I am scared of H&M sizing by the way - I haven't been in for ages for that reason as once (when I was a size 10/12 I had to buy trousers from there in a 16). I was gutted. Doesn't make me want to go back TBH.
I am wearing Mothercare Maternity PJ's in a size 10 at the mo - much better for the self esteem I find!

bekkaboo · 08/03/2009 22:12

thanks fikelly, i have a few ideas now, also going to get him one of them parrott things you feed a bottle in toys r us, 9.99 im sure boring after while but he likes them. just ordered gumdrop books too, so that will be ample as dont want to overdo it.

Off to bed now as DH is sitting here munching midget gems very loudly and im going shout at him in a mo.. night x

flippineck · 08/03/2009 22:12

I think H&M must be random sausage, I don't think it's you! Agree Fi, Mothercare is generous, I've got a few bits from there from when I was pregnant with DD, size 12, and they are still pretty big (including my swimming costume - boobs somewhere near my knees!). New Look are fairly gernerous too, and M&S.

Thanks all for the reminder about presents to and from DD to the new one, I'd forgotten about that. Any tips for managing things like the first meeting?

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 22:14

I must head off to bed soon too... i've been a bit naughty polishing off half a cadbury's flake easter egg with my glass of milk. Also treated myself to some more hotmilk nightwear... been promising myself since before xmas

flippin I'd say have a present ready from the baby and I'd also advise not actually to be cuddling or feeding the baby when your first born comes in for the first time to see you. Try to ensure the baby is in the cot and the present is at the bottom of the cot - then you can give the older one big cuddles and open the pressie together before the baby gets your cuddles. I think this probably helps, at least it's what lots of friends advised me to do.
Feel full of cold now and pretty rubbish so am off to bed now. Night ladies sleep well x

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 22:18

flippineck i could do with some tips for that too.... as not sure if the protocol we followed for introducing ds to the dog at home would be quite the same!?!

OP posts:
llareggub · 08/03/2009 22:18

flippineck, someone told me it is helpful not to have the new baby in your arms when your PFB meets the new baby for the first time. Sounds like a good plan to me!

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 22:21

frazzle lol actually it was kinda similar! Dh took a blanket home that smelled of ds home from the hospital a few days before we came home for our dog to get used to then when we got home dh carried ds in his car seat leaving me free to make a big fuss of the dog! (our dog was mine from before dh)

Yes, I made sure i wasn't holding DS when DD came to visit for the first time, and had the presents ready in the cot for DD.

DD was in nursery, and knew DS was being born that day (as it was planned cs) so was excited about coming to visit us. DS was born around midday, and DH went to pick DD up around 5. Not the best time of day as she was quite tired. Plan to do the same this time, as DD/DS will be in nursery again but if I have my op a bit earlier, DH may pick them up a bit earlier.

sausagenmash · 08/03/2009 22:49

I found Mamas and Papas to be a bit weird as well - their sizing is either 8 - 10 or 12 - 14. I can't remember the last time I was a size 8 (can wangle the odd 10 from some places sometimes) so plumped for a 12 - 14 skirt. Its MASSIVE. (but very comfy!)

I have some very dodgy looking dungarees from mothercare - my god are they comfy. Dp alwayslaughs when he sees me in them - says I look like an extra from Dexy's Midnight Runners. Either that or a lady with an, ahem, alternate persuasion! (better not wear them with my DM boots or birkenstocks! People would be most confused!)

Anyone got any tips for where to get cheapy front opening nightie jobs for the hospital? Saw some in mothercare yesterday, but they only had size 20 or 8. I mean, honestly.

pulapula · 08/03/2009 22:56

Sausagenmash- think i got my cheapie nighties from BHS but primark didnt exist back then, so guess that would be a good place to look too. I am a size 12 but bought size 16 as i wanted something baggy.

Momino · 08/03/2009 23:01

I think M&P is on the big size. Also have a Dorothy Perkins pair of jeans that are on the large side even though I'm in late stage of pregnancy.

i'm just living in my topshop pair of skinny jeans. every day. when they're in the laundry, I wear my low waisted regular jeans with an extender or hair elastic.

i just found out my sis has sent me some of her maternity clothes including some 'expensive' jeans. have no clue what brand but from the US. looking forward to a new, free maternity wardrobe. should arrive on Tues with DH's return from his trip to Baltimore.

about nighties, i got some cheap long tshirt dresses from H&M that did the job last time. for BF, I do prefer a tshirt I can lift up which, for me, is more discreet than a front opening. but i'm very shy about feeding in front of others ( i won't do it in front of in laws and certain friends).

Momino · 08/03/2009 23:02

omg, it's 11pm! i'm off to bed now. one last night without dd's. has been quiet and boring but I do appreciate the extra sleep time.

can't wait to see my little fairies though!

night, all.

Jennster · 08/03/2009 23:03

Hello everybody. I was 31 weeks yesterday, and am 31 years today. Dh and I went out for a meal last night for the first time in a long time and then went to PizzaExpress for lunch with the skids today.

I bought some short long length trousers from Mamas and Papas and oh my goodness they are enormous. Bought size 12 and could possibly get away with 8. Certainly 10. I usually buy Topshop 14 or NewLook 12.

llareggub · 08/03/2009 23:04

I've only ever worn t-shirt tops to feed in. I always meant to get around to buying a button-up nightie but never got around to it. I used to wear a cardie in the early days for a extra cover-up

llareggub · 08/03/2009 23:05

Oh yes, M+P are definitely huge! I can't wear the yoga pants I bought there for more than one day because they stretch so much after one wear they fall down.

Blottedcopybook · 08/03/2009 23:16

Hang on, PACKING BAGS?! I haven't bought anything for this baby yet!

I swear, with each baby I've got less and less organised. I have an empty drawer so at least she'll have somewhere to sleep. And plenty of towels so she'll have nappies. Umm...

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 23:24

the only reason i'm getting all my stuff for the bags now is because i swelled up v badly towards the end last time and didn't feel like shopping at all.. then ended up in hospital early..

SpangleMaker · 08/03/2009 23:29

Wow, you ladies can talk - 5 pages in one day! Thanks Fi for the new thread, love the title and I definitely need the squeeze & hold reminder.

Sausage I don't really do nighties so I got some really cheapo front opening ones from Primark - black with little pink polka dots - for about £3 each. Don't like them but I won't feel guilty for chucking out afterwards at that price

The nesting thing kicked in properly today... DH & I have cleared out loads of books from our current bedroom & created space for them in our new bedroom. Our house is tiny & pretty much full of stuff so we've needed a major declutter. Only problem is that the house actually now looks more untidy than before, with piles for the charity shop & various bags full of rubbish that won't fit in the bin until it's emptied on Wednesday.

Right, better get off to bed. I keep meaning to go to sleep earlier so I'm not tired in the morning but somehow I can't make myself... think it's because I'm having a job getting comfy so I don't look forward to snuggling down like I used to.

night all x

Blottedcopybook · 08/03/2009 23:30

I did too last time, I was hospitalised on and off from 32 weeks and DD was born at 37w3d. I suppose I should get the finger out!

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 23:38

I'm off to bed too.. should have been in bed ages ago! ds will no doubt be up at 5.30am again (groan)

Morning all,

A bit of a question for ebay users. I'm a bit as I won a good as new M+P changing bag for £3 which was a bit of a bargain as i'm sure it was because the photo and description wasnt great. The seller was really bad at communicating (e.g. i wanted it sending 2nd class to save on P+P but ended up paying 1st class as he never issued the revised invoice), and then never said when it was posted and when i chased it he claimed it should have arrived and he'd chase this up with the post office. I raised a case in the resolution centre and again he didnt respond and then 2 weeks later credited the money back. Now my theory is that he never posted it (I have never had anything go missing before) but i guess there is nothing i can do to prove this. Its really annoying though- do you think people do do this if they dont get enough for the items?

FiKelly · 09/03/2009 08:48

morning.. bit bleary still as ds woke up earlier than ever.. 5am. despite turning him around and putting him straight back into bed he won't stay there for more than 10mins so he ends up not going back to sleep. unfortunately it seems to be dh getting up for work that he's hearing mon to fri we think.. can't explain weekend earlies though. was trying not to use last resort but going to have to.. our travel stair gate is going on his doorway at bedtime tonight so hoping he'll get the message that it's not getting up time for us at 5. he is still tired when he's waking up & not hungry/thirsty/cold/scared/needing nappy change although have tried all that. with getting up so early he's sometimes crashed out for a nap after lunch.. but not for longer than an hour and then asleep at 7pm or so. is there anything else i can do? he used to sleep from 7 till 7min up till 2wks ago and there were no changes here to explain why he's now doing this. BTW his room is so well blacked out even if it was light when he's waking you wouldn't know. really puzzled how to get him sleeping right through again

FiKelly · 09/03/2009 08:54

pulapula could be.. but naughty none the less. it's something i've never done and some buyers have got real bargains when i've got my sums wrong and ended up losing money when i sold it! you could check to see if he ever re-listed it..

I've skipped a whole lot of posts (this thread has been like wildfire the past few days! Whats going on?!) to say Fi you're one hot little mama. Nice norks . Also I love your crochet - the lion is amazing, but the squares are gorgeous too. I was a knitaholic but since being pregnant I don't appear to be as motivated. I've been making little shoes though. They're not as good as your crochet thats for sure.

Loads of people at farmers markets yesterday commented on my bump and said really nice things. It was lovely.
