You are making me panic with all your hospital bag talk- have never done this til i'm 35/36 weeks and on maternity leave...

I know i said ages ago that i would have prefered another DD than DS this time round, but with my DDs constant whining and amateur dramatics over the slightest little thing, and with my DS being very cute and funny at the moment, i'm quite glad its another boy .

llareggub · 08/03/2009 21:41

frazzled I've no idea but the hospital got me expressing like crazy after my c-section. I'm still breastfeeding DS so there is a point to me expressing as I'd like a store to give to the baby in case he is jaundiced like DS was.

The NCT breastfeeding advice line is really good, I'm sure they can answer your question.

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 21:43

frazzledoldbag my ds loves colouring/stickers/puzzles etc but i've got to find a really yellow ball as his present from his new baby sister as when asked if he would like a brother or sister he says 'no brother/sister... a ball.... a yellow ball!'

Fikelly a tennis ball?

Momino · 08/03/2009 21:45

would expressing be like nipple stim and possibly bring on labour? though if that's the case, wouldn't same be said for breastfeeding your DS llareggub? interesting thought.

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 21:47

Tennis ball is good idea but might have to get something not so hard for when he flings it around the flat!

Fikelly Crikey they are odd! never seen them before, suppose small version of potato head? Does your DS have one of them?

pulapula · 08/03/2009 21:47

My DD loved her presents from my DS when she first came to visit him- he bought her an umbrella, a jigsaw and some pencil crayons- she was 2.6 and these were all things she really wanted then. Didn't stop her playing up not shortly afterwards, and every subsequent visit, but guess she may have been even worse without the presents.

Not bought any presents for DD and DS yet from the baby, but guess a few chocolate treats would probably endear him more to them than any other gift lol.

bekkaboo · 08/03/2009 21:49

just remembered not packed any pants! this is why ive done it so early as I always forget the most obvious pieces!

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 21:49

Just googled for my question about early expressing and found a topic on netmums saying that you could express colostrum to store for 2 wks before delivery but only to express for 15 mins at a time or you'd get sore nips! It also said it would still take 3 days for the proper milk to come in as that is triggered by the hormonal change at delivery. Expressing pre-delivery may cause Braxton Hicks and I guess maybe early labour if your body was ready to go anyway? but they didn't seem to think that was a reason not to do it. It's the same as tandem feeding I guess anyway? [duh, I suppose, please correct me if I'm wrong]

llareggub · 08/03/2009 21:51

I'd never heard of the nipple stimulation thing bringing on labour until I read it on this thread. It did worry me a bit so I started a thread for reassurance. The responses are here.

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 21:52

bekkaboo i've been thinking about them for a while but was waiting until ds got a bit older as i was worried about the small bits...

im not sure fikelly, i tend to not worry to much about small pieces tbh as ds has never put near mouth (famous last words) I wouldn't get them of your worried. I think i should start a shopping thread! Im thinking about a small box of lego, proper lego that nanny can make for half hour then when done DS will be bored and not intrested, thats it talked myself out of that one.

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 21:58

what about palydoh? my dd (age 2) adores playdoh )either shop bought or home made with some plastic cutters. Keeps her occupied for ages.

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 21:59

in fact my 7 yr old still loves to get playdoh out too........she makes some pretty interesting things with it.

bekkaboo · 08/03/2009 22:00

im going pack cake making bits, he can make some choc rice crispies cakes etc and that way get a lot of satisfaction bringing me a few in hospital xx

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 22:00

oh yes ds loves play dough too... and lego for that matter... loves to build towers with all the assorted bricks even the weird shaped ones!

Flippineck - I went to H&M yesterday, desperate for some black trousers - went to the maternity bit, and ended up with a size 16!! Am appalled - am usually a nice size 12! Whats HAPPENED to me?

Btw, I'm too scared to weigh myself - haven't done so since about November. I think I'd cry

bekkaboo · 08/03/2009 22:04

Does anyone know what age normal lego is from?

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 22:05

H&M sizing must be all to pot... I found mothercare was the other way... i needed smaller sizes than expected!!

OP posts:
FiKelly · 08/03/2009 22:09

some normal lego can start from age4 but it depends on the actual set... have a look at the lego.com site it's excellent
