Momino · 12/03/2009 22:37

hi all. hope all are well tonight.
chocbun, hope things calm down with people telling you what to do.

baby has been very quiet/little movement so that I was starting to worry a bit. however s/he's now woken up and wriggling around (just in time for me to go to sleep).

anyone else on choc ice cream? Tesco's organic choc fairtrade (gorgeous) is on a deal £1.61 for a huge tub. dh came back with 4 tubs!

going up to bed now. good night all.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 12/03/2009 22:50

chocbunnies ignore the horrible comments that have been made, me and my dp have been together since we were 16 and we are now both 22 and would love to get married but we just couldnt afford to. i have the same sort of probs with dp's friends as very few have children and they still think of him as being the same as them and think its ok to invite him out all the time and them make comments about me not letting him. so i know how your feeling sort of and would really just say rise above it you and your dp know its what makes you both happy so stuff them! oh yeah and congrats on the 4d scan that so exciting! am very

belgianchocs re-Zafiras we know someone who has had one for yrs and they have never had any problems with it. worth checking up on it though as that problem does sound very serious.

fi good luck with news on the house

i am so in empathy with all of you who are having bad nights with dcs, my ds is 3yrs 9mths and he has hardly ever slept through the night right from when he was born till now (mostly our own mistakes i know) and its a nightmere! we are trying really hard to try and get him to see he's a big boy now and needs to sleep in his own bed coz he's too big and way to fidgety! and he just seems to be getting it and doing ok for a few nights in a row and then he gets another cough thinks he's had one like every other week throughout this whole winter (he has asthma) so it really effects his sleeping. we know what we should be doing to put it right but i just have not got the energy at the mo or the emtional stability to keep it going, especailly when he's poorly! so i think along with the 5-6 toilet trips(which are really starting to annoy me) and then the time it takes to get back to sleep coz ds's is fidgeting or coughing next to me i think i prob manage to get about 5-6hrs extremely broken sleep each night which is possible why im finding everything so hard to deal with and is probley why i feel so ill when i get up in the morning!
wow sorry that was a right waffling on about that, think i best leave it at that tonight

Jennster · 12/03/2009 22:50

belgian Thanks for that. I knew it wasn't good. I always go to bed on my left side leaning on to a body pillow which is between my legs. When I wake up (frequently so can't be lying like that for too long) I've still got my legs bent sideways with the pillow between them, but have twisted my upper back so it's almost flat against the bed. I put the pillow at the base of my back while I'm on my side so if I do roll, I'm still tilted towards the left if that makes any sense. I must say you are very brave outing yourself as a mw. Thanks so much for all your help and advice by the way.

detsy · 12/03/2009 22:53

Hi All

  • quick post no sleep last night as I thought due to two lots of big back teeth jutting through adn then demands in general for bottles, cuddles, up, down etc, screaming the house down. She seems much better tonight so fingers crossed

belgian i went to sliderobes today - very impressed - saw will the showroom chap - real sweetie - very pleased and am going to order so thank you so much for that. Have also decided to get Ikea carcasses and interiors so all in all a lot less than the orginal 3k quote from another company!!! I'm going for coloured glass doors and am putting nursery decals on them to make them more kiddified - am very excited (yeah i know excited about wardrobes...!!)

spangle, belgian, llare, jael et al - I'm up for a meeting anywhere - Spangle you can come with me if we drive to Brum if you want to? I'm easy about location - Trentham Gardens is good for me and Spangle so up to you ladies really - few nice coffee places and some shops there - the monkey place is down the road a bit but not a problem either, tho I would def need some reins on my own monkey If all are happy with that suggestion then we can arrange that - weekends are fine for me but will be with Lotti. I don't know wehre you all are other than Spangle and Belgian (as she is near the wardrobe shop..!!) so just let me know

Oh and Frazz yeah I'm with you on that one about TLC and lack of fuss about babies too - I get nothing really from my family - they actually rarely come and see us even tho they are pretty local. Tho today my mum said she was going to try and make more of an effort (Lotti is 16 months!!!) I have to buy everything for the littles which I enjoy but would be nice for someone to fuss over me and my babies. (I have to "encourage" DP to buy things but thats just a selfish male issue!!)

But its not as is we have a huge family either - Lots is my mum's first grandchild - but mum is very focussed on and joined at hip with my little sister - (19 years) - so everything gets dropped if she needs/wants anything - which is every day pretty much Also they never have any money or time and what they do have they spend on their zillions of horses - which I think is frankly ridiculous - but hey nothing to do with me!

Jennster · 12/03/2009 22:56

zafiras We looked into them, but found out they were less flexible than the equivalents on the market. The middle row is a bench, and you can't get rid of one or more of the seats. They are ok for babies and toddlers, but not as good when they are older, as the leg room is not great if you want to ever have the back seats up. No problems so far with our VW Touran, although I do miss the Passat estate. It looks so much nicer than the Touran.

SpangleMaker · 12/03/2009 23:00

momino oooh ice cream, just remembered we've got some mint choc in the freezer, hmmm... suppose it's a bit late now

Had mw appointment yesterday. All fine/normal etc..... baby is head down but back to back which I'm slightly about because I've been really trying to sit up, lie on my side etc, but at 33w-ish I suppose he's still got plenty of time to move. His position makes sense as I'm getting some strong prodding kicks out the front which are fun to feel & watch.

Baby was v quiet when I got there but woke up with all the belly-squidging and seemed to be fairly pissed off about it - he gave the mw some huge kicks & we could hardly hear the heartbeat for all his thrashing around

detsy · 12/03/2009 23:05

Phewwey - what a little mini rant off me as well!! Sorry girls but good to offload.

Choc no surprise you are upset and angry - but as you have said yourself, the issue is that your "friends" or DP's are young and in different life situations so they probably feel being married with kids is way too adult for them at this stage - so they opt to take the p*ss instead. The most powerful reaction you can have is to be super dooper calm and mature (them seeing you getting cross about is will only fuel their stupidity more) Facebbok def has its downsides as we have recently found out with my DPs "grown up" kids - any opportunity to stick the guilt knife in!!

Right waiting for DD to wake for another bottle (when will the need for a bottle before bed and bottle 4 hours later stop??) and then off to bed

detsy · 12/03/2009 23:09

I've been through a tub of choc chip haagen daaz in 2 days - don't normally like choc ice cream - so blame whoever mentioned it on the last thread! I'm a vanilla/ banana girl really

Spangle glad all is well - lots of time to move yet. CDs not showed up yet - really sorry but will chase them this weekend and hopefully have them to you next week. 33 weeks - how time is flying! Less than 2 months to go

SpangleMaker · 12/03/2009 23:11

Re meet up, I've two more weeks at work after this (finish on 27th) but any time around that is fine.

detsy thanx for the offer of a lift if we meet in Brum, every time me & DH go we get lost so goodness knows what I'd be like on my own! I'm sure I'll get more confident eventually

detsy · 12/03/2009 23:11

I'm off to Boots on Tuesday to get all my bits and bobs for labour and hosp bag, feeding stuff, nipple stuff, lady garden accoutrements, bed mats etc etc etc then I thinl that other than a load of washing ,ironing, folding and storing that I'm good to go - woo hoo!!

detsy · 12/03/2009 23:14

No worries - let's see what everyone wants to do - when and where and then we can get organised!! If its brum I'll be relying heavily on sat nav

SpangleMaker · 12/03/2009 23:14

detsy thanks, that's lovely of you to send the CDs. TBH I prob won't get round to listening much until I finish work, DH would probably get in the way & take the mickey!

SpangleMaker · 12/03/2009 23:15

detsy thanks, that's lovely of you to send the CDs. TBH I prob won't get round to listening much until I finish work, DH would probably get in the way & take the mickey!

SpangleMaker · 12/03/2009 23:17

Ooops double post.

I'm normally pretty good at navigating & I know Brum well to walk around but somehow it seems to fool me every time (mind you last time I was holding the map upside down )

Right better get off to bed! Night all x

chocolatebunnies · 13/03/2009 09:14

morning everyone, where are you all today???

i keep getting tingly feelings & numbness in my hands and feet, like the beginning of pins & needles, any ideas what it could be and should i be worried? have ring midwife to ask her, but suprisingly, no-one is ever in the office so have to wait to get a call back.

can't find anyone to buy this pram of mine so looks lik im stuck with it!

am feeling much better today, very excited about the next couple of weeks, bithday, 4d scan, mothers day! woohoo! treats for me!

not sure what i feel like doing today, might just spend the day in my PJ's! Who's with me?!

FiKelly · 13/03/2009 09:41

morning chocolatebunnies

ds is still in his vest and nappy.. i had to get dressed to take dog out. dh off today to hopefully get our house offer/shortfall sorted.

re pins and needles.. if it was just hands i'd say it was carpal tunnel, which i got in latter stages when pregnant with ds.. but as hands and feet i'm not sure..

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 13/03/2009 10:24

fi I was going to say the same: carpal tunnel, but I've never heard of it in feet either. Chocbunnies are your hands and feet swollen by any chance, because that might put some pressure on your nerves and cause pins and needles.

re: Midlands meet up, The 1st 2 weeks of april are the easter hols, so I could meet up any day of the week during that period and it could be anywhere too, because I don't have to worry about the school run or anything. If the dcs are coming then something like Trentham Gardens sounds better because they've got a play area and more things to do where the dcs can run around and play while we have a drink and a chat

I have my 1st proper appointment later on with the osteopath. After that I'm off to Brum to find my ap who is leaving on Sun a farewell present. She's the first ap where I haven't got through to her very well and where I have no idea what to get. Hopefullly that osteopath appt will help me when walking around the shops, but I'll take my crutches to be on the safe side.

Someone I know gave me her TENS machine to use, as I'm hoping to have a water birth I don't know for sure if I'd use it much, but it's also good for backache and afterpains, so I'll definitely use it for that before and after baby's born. It's free, so I thought why not try it? If I don't use it then there's nothing lost.

Jenn I've outed myself as a mw, just because I can't help myself giving advise and I also can't help defending my profession if I hear people say bad things about mws in general, so people would have caught on in no time. I do try to be careful though, because I don't want to give people wrong advise. I couldn't live with myself if something goes wrong because of something I've said.

re zafiras We've actually chosen it because it would be a compact people carrier, so we're aware it's not all that big inside. It would be our second car. My dh wants to swap his own car for a big people carrier. His dream car is a Toyota Previa, but they're not all that easy to find second hand at the moment. We'd end up with 2 people carriers, but if DH says that we can afford that, then who am I to complain? As long as I've got a car that takes all dcs I'm happy. I'm not all that bothered about what make or model it is.

Gert2a · 13/03/2009 10:35

Yeah! Just had a kiddicare delivery! New moses basket mattress, spotty blanket and fitted sheets for moses basket and cot. Very exciting!

Good morning all.

Chocbunnies was tempted by the all day in pyjamas offer, but now the delivery has arrived I don't have an excuse! Will pop up to see my mum for a coffee instead. And also just to say, I agree with what everyone has said about sticking to your guns with the wedding. It's your day, it's about you and your DP. It's about you two making a commitment to each other for the rest of your lives. How and when you choose to do that is your choice, not anyone elses. Weddings are funny things, it astounds me when I hear tales of 'friends' making demands about what they want to happen on the 'day'. Get on with it, how you want it, that way you won't regret a thing. I have no regrets about having artifical flowers (very cheap!), keeping the wedding ceremony and reception to only very close family and a couple of friends, having a picnic as our reception at a miniture steam railway, having a big fancy dress oscars style bash in the evening and a pork pie for a wedding cake. It was the best day ever, and very fortunately I didn't have any interference from friends/family, basically I kept it all to myself and just didn't tell them what was happening!

Very excited as this afternoon me and DH are heading over to Scarborough for our final holiday as just Mr and Mrs for quite some time! Staying at lovely spa hotel for a couple of nights. Can't wait for the swimming pool and the pedicure (although not at the same time), oh yes and fish and chips from Seamer Fisheries. Heaven!

Have a marvellous weekend everyone.

Gert2a · 13/03/2009 10:39

On the subject of changing cars... don't suppose anyone knows anyone who wants a smart car?

For some reason my beloved little smart just doesn't appear to be the most practical car anymore!!!

Belgianchocolates · 13/03/2009 10:40

Oh I'd love a little smart car to go to work. But 2 people carriers and a smart would be a bit greedy, wouldn't it?!

llareggub · 13/03/2009 10:56

Gert, I've just swapped my totally impractical Fiat 500 for a Volvo XC90 and I am missing my previous level of petrol consumption!

Gert2a · 13/03/2009 11:45

Belgian - Greedy? No not at all, just think of how practical it would be to go to work in a smart car? Easy to park, kind to the planet etc etc etc!!

llareggub - I know what you mean about the fuel consumption! Although we're being ever so green and swapping 2 cars for just the one! DH works only a 10 minute walk from work, so maybe being a one car family will encourage him to walk or cycle! However we do need to sell the smart before we can buy the new one. No luck so far, my next plan of action is to try ebay.

Blottedcopybook · 13/03/2009 13:14

Right! I've been catching up

Knitting - if any of you can't knit but would like to learn there are loads of helpful videos on YouTube. I also refer everyone to knitting.about.com

Zafiras - I think the most important thing is to buy from somewhere with a good customer service track record. I bought from Arnold Clark and they were absolutely abysmal until I threatened legal action and got in touch with a head bod at Vauxhall to fight my case for me. The other thing worth mentioning is they're not great for value retention (but that generally means you can pick one up cheaply).

polony It's possible. My vet friend tells me that a new peeing-away-from-the-tray habit can be a protest or it can be a sign of infection. Mine do it if their litter tray is less than sparkling. I think a knitted sleepsuit would be gorgeous! I've actually just bought one from Zara, it's knit from cotton rather than wool which will be nice and cool in May. I tend to use longies rather than wool covers, I always use the Aubrey Doodlepants longies pattern. Are you on Ravelry?

Belgian The previa is nice - tell DH to check out the Citroen C8! They're unbelievable, I actually love mine.

Divedaisy Belated happy birthday!

ladyhelen2 That sounds blissful! It's my birthday on Monday and I'm kind of hoping that someone thinks a pregnancy spa would be a nice idea. I am so tired it's not even funny.

LoobyLou Fruit is full of natural sugar which will increase your glucose levels, can you switch over to carrot sticks/steamed veg?

Chocbunnies Opinions are like @rseholes. Everyone has one and prefers their own to anyone else's. Ignore the doubters!

FiKelly I am the same with the bladder, I am up twice during the night now

flippineck · 13/03/2009 13:41

Lol Blottedcopybook - opinions and @rseholes, so very true.

Agree about Zafiras and poor value retention, the only reason my parents change them so often is because they can use the Motability scheme as dad is quite severely disabled and needs a car that he can get in a and out of without too much of a struggle and with a boot that is big enough for his wheelchair. The boot is pretty good if you don't use the extra seats, wheelchair, a couple of suitcases etc. Mum also uses it to ferry her friends around - imagine 7 60-something ladies off on shopping trips!

Very of all you lot going on spas days/short breaks without children before the big days! No suitable childcare really available for us, so the best I can get is to go and have my eyebrows waxed when DH isn't at work.

I have asked you all before, but it hasn't worked - can anyone please tell me to stop eating so much?!?!

pulapula · 13/03/2009 13:50

Detsy, just skimming the thread in my lunch-hour and saw your post about Lotti needing a bottle 4 hours after her bedtime drink. I must say, I am not sure whether it is a need or a habit- I am a fan of the baby whisperer who recommended that once solids were well-established then this feed could be dropped, so mine generally stopped this feed around 8 or 9 months i think. The "soft" way to do it is to gradually reduce the volume (by an oz every 3 days) and also bring it forward by 1/2 an hour each time although that was partly as this was a "dreamfeed" where it sounds like Lotti is waking for hers. Eventually you are down to an oz or so just shortly after they've gone to bed so you can drop it altogether. They make up the extra in the day (if they really need it). The "hard" approach, is to say "no milk", and give water if Lotti is very upset. We had to do this with DS after we'd got into the habit of giving milk when he'd been poorly. After a couple of nights he would stop waking... I would advise you to try one of these, as i don't think it sounds like she will stop of her own accord, and once LO is here, you will be busy enough feeding them in the night. And it also means you can go to bed whenever you like, and not have to wait up to give her another drink...
