I am very scared of PurpleMonkey, by the way ...

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 09:20

Goodness this website is eclectic - there's a thread about being a 'high-end sex worker, and what it means/involves!!!

I have not read it, so not sure if said high-end sex worker is also pg. I imagine she might have some tips on perineal massage and finding your doughnut. Also possibly cucumbers.

Oh dear.

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 09:20

Nutty is up a bit late but admittedly she was charging around Bristol until 2am being ill. I wonder how she is?

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 09:21

Does MathsMummy have a secret life beyond the interactive whiteboard? She knows all about this stuff as well ...

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 09:24

Sex work?

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 09:24

[thoughtful face]

Kalikaroo · 03/03/2009 09:26

The MWs don't give size or weight estimates here Puzzle - when I asked she said that it's too inaccurate to say for sure just using fundal height, but that the doctor might want to give me a scan if she thinks it is really on the big side, just to check everything's ok. I'm quite about it because I was a very dinky 6lbs when I was born! DH was quite massive (over 10lbs) so I was hoping for something in the middle, maybe 7-8lbs? Not sure if that's how it works! Must stop eating pick n mix!! (and biscuits and cakes and basically everything with sugar in it to stop bubs getting any bigger...

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:34

I have read a bt of that sex worker thread. Apparently she started one a while back saying that she became a sex worker to support the family after her husband lost his job and they lost their house. Fast foward and she is hurt by husband chatting to women on dating sites and wonders if this is hypocritical given her work. Apparently her claim to her enjoy her work led another poster to accuse "her" of being a male fantastist because no real women would enjoy prostituting herself. Hence the recent thread defending herself as genuine and offering to answer others questions about the way she earns a living

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:35

Kali - I will keep my fingers crossed for a mid size baby for you then.

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 09:40

Juwesm, no I meant perineal massage, doughnuts and so on. I am worried MathsMummy might be offended at that post actually. Sorry MathsMummy, I was being silly and flippant, and fully retract any comment or insinuation that you may be involved in any way with the sex industry or related industries. I know you are really a librarian from Bognor Regis. With a bun.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:42

I want a third baby so much I could countenance pimping out my husband.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:46

If i'm back here before 2, tell me to sod off, I have much to do today. Send my best wishes to the Nutster if she coms back on.

Claireykitten · 03/03/2009 09:47

Well Kali I dont know whether it is reasuring or not as many people think DS was a big baby but I was a 5lber at birth (and my mum had been put on hospital bedrest because I was going to be a HUGE baby!) DH and all his siblings were all very high end 9lbers and DS was born at 8lb 11.5.

bronze · 03/03/2009 09:57

Re the hospitals outside London thing I alwasy find it interesting when people say thing slike ask for a different mw or change hospitals.

We have two community mws if ones working the other isn't, you see them both theres no choice.

As for hospitals, the nearest is about 15 miles away. The next ones after that are 33 miles into Norwich (horribly busy) or 58 miles to the other side of the county. I guess you could go the other way to peterborough which is 50 miles but I dont fancy either of those three in labour. Especially when I had ds2 less than 3/4 after arriving at the nearest hospital

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 09:57

Oh I am so supposed to not be here.

Kalikaroo - my baby seems to simoultaneously be pushing up under my ribs and pushing down into my cervix. Midwife thinks it is 'large'. Don't worry about this, it could just be long. DD was 9 lb 1 oz but she was more long than anything else. Her head was bang on the 50th percentile while her length was around the 99th. I didn't have a difficult birth at all.

And reasearch I have read on size of babies seems to suggest that baby birth weight is more likely to resemble babies born on the mother's side of the family. In my case this seems true. I was 9lb and DH was somewhere around 6 or 7 (his mother actually can't remember!).

And also just to further reassure you, my super slender, narrow hipped friend had an 11lb baby with nothing more than gas & air and a birthing pool and didn't need a single stitch or anything. Whole birth was 6 hours start to finish.

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 09:59

I have two friends/ colleagues who were booked for c.sections due to predicted large size of babies, and I don't believe either DC was much over 8lb or so. Both ladies involved are on the svelte side though. Don't know much about centiles and the like, but I imagine your own size must skew the results? I larger bump probably quite normal for my substantial frame.

Girls at NCT class say evolution very clever, on the whole babies will grow to fit your frame/ pelvis/ uterus.

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 09:59

(I cannot spell )

Swaliswan · 03/03/2009 10:00

Good morning, Ladies.

Nutty - sorry to hear that you had to go charging around Bristol at some unearthly hour only to get poor care. Take a urine specimen to your GP today and see what it shows. Sometimes it takes a while for leucocytes and nitrites to show up on a urine dipstick at the start of a urine infection so it could still be that. But, it is really important if it is 'just' a urine infection to get it treated very promptly as UTIs are a cause of premature labour. What was your BP last night? Have you had any blood taken to test your liver function and rule out obstetric cholecstasis? Are you incredibly itchy all over? An upper abdo USS does sound like a very wise idea. I'm not sure how good a view they will get at this stage in your pg though.

I had a very rough night. I had terrible BHs for most of the night. Just as I was dropping off to sleep, I'd have another BH. Then at 1am I had an almighty clear out. I didn't know what to do with myself as I couldn't get comfortable and was so tired. At one point I wondered if it was going to signal the start of labour as I remember having a similar clearout and terrible BHs that meant I couldn't get comfortable the night before DD was born. I wonder if my Clarins pampering was a little too good. The amount of essential oils that they put in the massage oil may have been having quite an effect. I'm trying to get comfortable on my birthing ball now but don't seem to be able to ease the discomfort. I'm wondering about packing an emergency bag. I'm very glad to be going to see the midwife this afternoon. It's typical that this is going on whilst DH is away and my mum is too. Thankfully, the CM picked DD up this morning so I can try and go to sleep if these niggles settle and I can get comfortable.

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 10:01

Yeah exactly Juwesm. Nature is a very clever thing and will generally create a baby you can cope with.

I met a midwife years ago who said that women with large feet seem to have easier labours - apparently there is a correlation between foot and pelvis size. But who knows.

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 10:03
bronze · 03/03/2009 10:04

well I had size five feet prior to children (small because I'm 5ft11), I had no hips and my stomach went in. I had a 9lb 14 baby (with his hand up no tearing) so I think nothing can be generalised.

I now have wide hips and bigger feet though.

bronze · 03/03/2009 10:05

Ju
I can just picture you trying. If you're anything liek me the image is of a weeble

Swaliswan · 03/03/2009 10:07

Hmmmmm, my mum has size six feet and is only five foot tall. She had a horrendous labour with my older brother and ended up with a botched forceps delivery. On the other hand, when she had me, she nearly gave birth before getting to the hospital and managed without any pain relief or medical assistance.

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 10:07

Thank goodness I've been doing my pelvic floor. That could have been bad. Hoorah for my size 8s.

BabyBolat · 03/03/2009 10:08

Morning all

Oh no for Barbarelly!!! Still on the plus side they are doing all they can to keep the babies together and they get a bit more growing time!

Puzzle - do you have to decide right now re 3rd baby - just don't rule it out because of money and see how things go?

Am hoping Nutty is sound asleep in a morphine induced, pain-free sleep!

I have an appointment with my community mw today - which at 36+1 will be the FIRST time I have met her! (not that I have EVER seen the same MW twice at the hospital but hey!) Am a bit nervous actually as she will be my only point of contact post-baby and I am hoping she is not a complete cow!!!

I know I have said this before but I am so very very ready for this baby to be out now - feel like a whale - can't sleep or move anywhere without pain or discomfort! Am supping my raspberry tea in the vain hope this will progress things but still doesn't feel like LO is engaged at all!!! !!
