Oh Lordy, I'm the first person here. It has clearly taken a deep, strong hold of me! TBH, I did not intend to be up this early - what's the point of maternity leave if you still get up at the same time you did to get to work? However, raging nausea currently needs feeding first-thing every morning, so it was up for more Crunchy Nut.

Nutty (Crunchy Nutty?) - at least they were able to rule out anything too major. Not much fun to be up at such awful hours of the day - hope you get a lie in today. Hope you took a good 40mg omeprazole? Speak to Kazkiss re: gallstones - she has some experience in that area!

Pleased with myself for remembering to pee in pot. Tick early morning MSU off to do list....yes.......that seems to be everything for the day! Good work me! Okay, I suppose I should take it to the MW this AM now I have secured it. Plus should go to breastfeeding class tonight. Plus have to print Orders of Service for funeral of DH's DGM (?) tomorrow. So to do list not quite complete after all.

DH has developed stinky rotten cold overnight. Must avoid catching it.

Time for tea now I think...

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 08:03

Thanks for the update MrsFossil. Poor Barbarelly, to think she was going to meet her babies and then be disappointed. Lets hope a bed becomes available asap.

Springy - Glad to hear you are feeling better. The cathartic power of a good wobbly and a cry is not to be underestimated.
BTW It was Broad Street in Soho, now called Broadwick Street, so I would have been in the right sort of area.

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 08:04

Morning

Nutty - how is the pain this morning? Did you manage to get enough rest ? I really hope so and hope you manage to find someone today who can actually help you.

Puzzle - lucky you that your DD doesn't want to go in the pram anymore. That's exactly what I had hoped for but as due date gets nearer and nearer DD seems to want to walk less and less (grrr). I've been trying to leave the pram behind as much as possible, but then I quite often end up carrying her, which is not exactly ideal.

Minush - do look behind the statistics of your hospital. The hospital where I had DD has a very high rate of C-sections too and looks very bad compared to others in the area when compared on stats alone. But in fact they have a specialist unit supporting mothers with heart problems. Women are actually moved from all around the country to give birth there if they need the specialist care - and those mothers nearly all need C-sections which skews the stats, but also means they have a wealth of experience dealing with babies who have had to be born prematurely. That said, it's well worth being difficult if something doesn't feel right to you.

Boffin - does your self imposed MN ban not count in the middle of the night? Can't help noticing you were on at an ungodly hour. Are you OK?

And poor Barbarella - how frustrating. She must be soooo dying to get those babies on the outside. But every day they are inside growing bigger and stronger could mean less time in hospital and sooner home.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 08:07

Nutty - You poor bugger, I can't believe how much you have had to put up with. Fingers crossed for you this morning.

Boff - What were you doing up so late/early?

Good morning Juwesm.

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 08:08

Yay - Juwesm - very keen aren't you. I thought I was the first on here. (Apart from Boffin in the middle of the night).

Talking of wee samples - when I saw my midwife last week she did something I'm not sure whether to be grossed out by or not.

After testing my sample, she chucked it down the sink, quickly sluiced out the pot and handed it back to me still wet. I am all for recycling etc etc but I would have thought these things need to be properly sterilised? I may have to soak it in Milton solution myself or something . Am I just being picky?

Puzzle - I think Juwesm and kazkiss said they would buddy each other. I think they know each other in RL.

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 08:16

And Puzzle - never knew William Blake was born in Soho. For years I had a framed print of 'The Tyger' (this one with his own illustrations) which I always used to hang by my bed but I lost it in a house move .

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 08:19

Thanks for heads up Lulu.

I have bought a wrist strap as the thought of wielding a heavy travel system and hanging onto a boisterous toddler is a bit worrying.

Oh and, yuk!

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 08:24

I was awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night with contractions (again) so I thought I might as well respond to Nutty.

I plan to be strong today between 1-2pm and not look at the webchat, which is scheduled for then. It made me so unreasonably upset being got at by those horrid women, and I don't want any more repeats. I have peeped back there and it is clear they all enjoy getting riled and actually have fun being nasty to each other. Well I had no fun at all and thought it was very uncivilised. I shall stay here in this lovely thread with all the nice girls.

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 08:26

Good idea on the wrist strap. Have toyed with the idea of reins for DD but not sure.... I guess if I get a double buggy it won't be such an issue. I had thought I would manage with the original travel system and a buggy board but I'm not sure she would stay on the board unless superglued.

Well anyway I better get dressed and sorted. Unless I can source a cheaper kitchen work surface we won't be able to afford a Phil & Teds anyway, so that's my challenge for the day.

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 08:28

Boffin I won't be on the webchat. Have no real interest in Fiona Millar and the book she's trying to flog.

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 08:29

LuLu, have you heard of the HippyChick hip seat? I used one when DS2 was small. It saves your back and hips.

HippyChick hip seat

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 08:36

I think sometimes these days to me it feels as though the world is full of London-based journalists and celebs giving us lifestyle 'tips' based on a world viewed through a very narrow prism. I used to work slap bang in the centre of this sector (I am open to accusations of having sold my soul), and I have to say these women are utterly untypical of women in the rest of the country. It's a kind of urban version of old wives' tales, just like the old wives' tales certain health visitors come up with.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 03/03/2009 08:37

morning everyone!

half an hour it's taken me to get caught up! and that's just the new thread, never mind the old one!

so went to physio yesterday. the woman was much nicer. probably helped that i was limping and was obviously in pain.

she checked my pelvis again, still level, so no adjustments. and she gave me a new belt, doesn't fit yet but at least i don't have to go back again. UNLESS the pain gets so bad that i need crutches, which she said were an option.

anyway, she basically said there's not much she can do but was nicer about it so i didn't punch her.

think i might get an appointment with the GP for better painkillers than paracetemol. last night was bad. not only was my pelvis sore but i had a stinking headache as well. was sick for the first time in months. i should probably go swimming today but don't know if i can be bothered.

BTW did you know it's very hard to type when you have a small child on your lap kissing you? lol

WELCOME to all the newbies!

bronze · 03/03/2009 08:45

morning

better get the kids to school

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 08:46

Just to add, I sometimes think the powers that be in this country forget that 80-90% of the country don't actually live in London!!

Outside London, less money is spent per head on education (some kids in London get a third more spent on them than kids in Cambridgeshire, for example), there are fewer schools and hospitals to choose between (sometimes only one, and that is it, with the same geographical school transport and school choice rules as for, say, Camden, where they are something like half a dozen all clustered together - god forbid you should want a Jewish state school or a single sex school for your child up here, because there simply ain't none, or that Springy should want to go to a different maternity unit), less public transport (practically none in some areas, yet we all pay the same petrol tax even if there is no choice about whethere to drive or not, and don't get me going on congestion charging schemes outside London for rural residents coming into towns), less income per capita within families on average, and fewer column inches/programme minutes spent on related issues.

I shall stop ranting for a moment so I can have some breakfast!!

gingersarah · 03/03/2009 09:00

Morning!

Nutty, good luck with the doctor today.

Purple, not punching people is always an achievement.

Puzzle, early bed yesterday for me. I am lucky in that I don't seem to have any problems sleeping. Yes, I wake up a lot and embark on long painful missions to the loo and to turn over, but when I get settled with all the strategic pillows I either drop off or semi doze comfortably. This is definitely something to be thankful for.

I have no energy at all and should be at my desk by 9 but ....

I don't like this me at all.

Frekkles, congratulations on the move. It will feel weird at first, but it will be home soon.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:00

Lulu - I may get a buggy board but I'll wait and see how she goes, I don't want to spend £60 on something she doesn't use.
Happy hunting today.

DH and I was discussing the affordability of a third baby last night and I got a bit upset. We both rally want three but it would definitely mean moving and i'm not that is feasible. Tell me I would be better off sticking at two.

Purplemonkey - Well done for keeping your fists to yourself.
I have one of those too, wretched affectionate offspring .

Good morning Bronze - Stick 'em in a cab.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:03

Good morning Gingersarah. I don't like the pregnant version of me either.

Kalikaroo · 03/03/2009 09:05

Morning all! Hi to the newbies

Poor Barbarella! Must be soooooo frustrating having to wait another day or so. Hopefully she'll see her babies tomorrow fingers crossed.

Had MW appointment yesterday and apparently my fundal measurement is still high (over the upper 'normal' range on the graph thing). The MW said it doesn't necessarily mean the baby is massive, but it could mean that it's fairly big, especially since its head is now in my pelvis and I can still feel it wedged under my ribs at the same time..... . Goodness knows what size it'll be in another 4 weeks! I have to see the obstetrician in 2 weeks to check the position etc. nd maybe to have a scan if she thinks it's a big baby. I asked to see a different one than last time because he was really rough and I nearly leapt off the bed when he was doing the internal! He also poked my bump really hard and seemed quite peeved that we had to speak in English for the appointment....

Hope you're feeling a bit better today Nutty and you too Springy . Actually I hope everyone's feeling better today since lots of people seem to be having a rough time just now. I hope it's just a blip and we'll all manage to cruise through it like "water off a duck's back" (that's my current mantra! - especially when dealing with DH!).

Think I overdid the walking yesterday - every time I stand up I feel like my lower bump is going to split open and the baby will fall out!! Sorry - a bit gross!!

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:05

Boff - I agree with everything you say, but i'm a little concerned your resolve is faltering. If I catch you on that thread, i'll set Purplemonkey on you. She's handy with her fists.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 09:07

Hi Kali, ouch. How big is big? Have they estimated a weight/length?

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 09:09

Interesting point re: hospital choices outside the big smoke. I live and work in Kent, in two adjoining PCTs. The hospital where I work is a large-ish D+G, with a consultant-led delivery unit and a fabulous SCBU, but I believe it is the only option for birth in that area. In the PCT next door, where I live, I have the choice of two consultant-led units and two midwife-led units, albeit over a fairly wide area. Plus there is a new birthing centre opening soon attached to one of the consultant units.

When I had my booking appointment and stated I was planning to go to 'my' hospital, MW did not see any problems with this, despite being in another PCT. So my current birth plan is planned for homebirth with transfer to 'my' hospital if transfer needed. Is probably closer for transfer anyway. Might cause problems with the ambulance people though...

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 09:15

LOL Puzzle!

My resolve is indeed faltering. I have also been lurking on all the pro/anti Doctors' Receptionists threads. I must think of something light and fluffy instead.

I did do just a very little post on SPD for someone but this may be the thin end of the wedge ...
