Thanks for a fab intro day everyone. Also learned some very interesting facts about BFs SIL, who kindly introduced me here (just think GHDs and pubic hair...)

Final question - what are the chances of me remembering to pee in the pot in the morning for MW appt, or will I forget again and have to be specimen-less? Taking in birth plan tomorrow to discuss, and also broaching the homebirth issue (after informing her at my booking appt that I would be taking my own epidural into hospital with me, just in case there was a problem with availability - change of mind may come a a surprise).

Does anyone have any experience in the home birthing pool area i.e. Birthpool in a Box vs La Bassine?

Enough q's for now. Hope everyone who is not feeling good today wakes up feeling fab tomorrow. I'm putting the baby to bed now, as it's been giving me a bit of a beating all evening.

Night all
xxx

I'm still at 2.30pm. Am I ever going to catch up.

I absolutely love Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham. And his voice is just so damn sexy. It resonates throughout you.

Keira Knightley? dull, dull dull.

No, no, no. The Thomas Crown Affair is Steve McQueen and only Steve McQueen. Pierce is tasty though, even as a young thing in The Long Good Friday.

Juwesm - With my last pregnancy I sat through half an NHS ante-natal class, sneaked out at the first opportunity and never bothered again. I'm not bothering this time either.

That sexual technics thread is hilarious. Springy - Tis possible for DH him to be on his side and me her on my her back as if DH he is very large.

BoffinMum · 02/03/2009 22:09

Just seen Nutty's post. I think you did the right thing phoning NHS Direct, and I hope you get good advice and feel better soon.

HB insider secret - if you get transferred in, you are that little bit more likely to get good midwifery care and/or a single amenity room afterwards if one is free, as they might well feel sorry for you. Something to bear in mind when deciding to book one, perhaps??

minush · 02/03/2009 22:13

Juwesm, ineviatable if you're anything like me, despite having a bladder the size of a stunted pea at present, once I've forgotten, I then can't go again until safely out of surgery at which point I revert to my normal, 3 seconds away from peeing pants state

Swaliswan · 02/03/2009 22:16

I'm off to bed as feeling very poorly. Am also convinced that DD is about to break out in chickenpox so I need an early night.

Night all x

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/03/2009 22:18

oh FFS, nhs direct told me to phone the delivery suite as they didnt know if it was pregnancy related or related to my back?? phoned delivery suite and they said that they think its related to my back rater than pg?? its my ribs and very top of bump FFS how can it be back related when all i do is sit on my fat arse and do feck all all day? they also said just to take my morphine and see a doctor who knows me (hmmmmm i have seen by different people every time i go choices, choices) though they did say if i really really felt that unhappy they they wouldn't turn me away but they would prefer me to see my own doctor.

thanks a bunch, very helpful.

why does nobody know what to do with me when im in pain and pass the buck all the time, am just constantly chasing my tail and healthcare proffessionals

PuzzleRocks · 02/03/2009 22:25

Ginger - What a horrible morning . How are you this evening?

Lauren - Ouch. They're not much fun but they are very important. I hope you are feeling better?
Have you considered what pain relief you might like for the labour? We're you planning a homebirth? You can have gas and air or pethidine at home I believe. Gas and air is all I used with DD, it's fabulous stuff. Ther's really no need to decide just yet. Take it as it comes, and whatever happens, however you decide to do things, you will have achieved something truly amazing so enough of the failure nonsense ok!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 02/03/2009 22:28

oh dear, another thread already! Is it possible that the April 09 mums talk more than anyone else ever on Mumsnet?! LOL

Just impossible to keep up at all! So I'll say Hi and bookmark this thread to my list of current threads...but never know, might be a new one by morning!

PuzzleRocks · 02/03/2009 22:37

Well, that's the old thread done, chapter 16 to tackle now.

Welcome Kazkiss, twins how exciting! Laura Ashley?

PuzzleRocks · 02/03/2009 22:37

I see everyone already got it.

PuzzleRocks · 02/03/2009 22:54

Lulu - This one apparently has her hands across her face too. Great. Looks like it may be scissors again.
I will try to be online in early labour.

Welcome Minush

Frekkles - I always take a while to adjust to a new place. It may fel better when you are unpacked. Give yourself time. How are you otherwise?

Boff - That sounds like a lovely day. I'm glad the SPD has been relatively better.

Juwesm - I'm not really sure what they check. Probably just access to road and house I would think. I don't think they will mind if you have dirty dishes.

Mumble - your DS has a fabulous name.

Swaliswan - cream tea and Clarins pampering, very nice.

Oh Nutty {{hugs}} .

BoffinMum · 02/03/2009 23:07

Hello Nutty,

Doing some internet work on your behalf relating to severe upper abdominal pain in late pg. Things to rule out:

  1. Placental abruption. Any uterine tenderness? Bleeding? Sounds like there isn't.

2.Pre-eclampsia. Any visual disturbance? Headache? Nausea? Puffiness? You seem to have the nausea.

  1. Gallstones? Don't know anything about this personally!

I think pre-eclampsia is the worrying one here so I would call the out of hours doctor about this, or visit the hospital if you can.

DH is very sympathetic and wishes you the best, btw.

BoffinMum · 02/03/2009 23:08

xposts nutty

mrsfossil · 02/03/2009 23:19

hi all sorry to disapoint you but just had text from barberella and c-section has been postponed due to lack of beds on neonnatel ward so no babies tomorrow will let you all know if she texts me tomorrow.
good night

BoffinMum · 02/03/2009 23:24

Oh the suspense! She must be feeling awful and in such an anti-climax state!

SpringySunshine · 03/03/2009 00:08

bronze, they did test me for infection & nothing - the reason I have worse contractions after weeing is because I have to move to get there. If I spent all day sitting on the toilet, it wouldn't be a problem. It's the same if I fetch a drink or fetch something from the bookshelf.

Nutty, that dress is really pretty! I'd look hilarious in it though, so I'll have to pass Besides, DH would probably think he was in for the time of his life if I suddenly started wearing nice clothes & I'm having trouble enough resisting as it is ALREADY

Puzzle, I'm okay thanks Had a really low few hours earlier (I got into that horrible, dark, hopeless place) & couldn't even really talk because I just wanted the world to go away. But DH did loads of domestic stuff that's been stressing me out because I can't do it, & I spoke to my mum for over an hour & I think my dad'll visit me on Wednesday to keep me company because DH will be out for most of the day. So I feel better now.

& please, if I did accost unsuspecting clubbers there wouldn't be any complaints about it (Except maybe DH...)

Welcome to the new girls

frekkles, glad you're back - I hope you don't feel slighted by me not bothering you with texts about my hospital stuff! I know you're my buddy, but it was the night you were moving & I didn't want to stress you out more / distract you from some lovin' / I didn't know if you'd have a net connection.

Don't let yourself get too nervous, lovely. You'll be absolutely fine - it's just another massive upheaval at the end of your first pregnancy - who could possibly be coping with that without any worries at all? But you will be fine, as you always are, & we're here as ever

Puzzle, I'm glad you clarified that you weren't working as a prostitute on Blake's birth street - it was the first conclusion I came to, naturally

Juw, I can't believe you mentioned Mr Darcy & Nutty's bikini line in the same sentence - that's never going to calm her down

Oh Nutty, I hope your appointment goes okay & they rule out anything nasty Fingers crossed - text me if you want. I'll leave my phone on very quiet so you won't wake me, but if I'm awake (likely, to be honest) I'll get it. We are all having a rough time of it

& double for Barbarelly. How awful to have a fixed date & then have it snatched away! I'm disappointed, so they must be wringing their hands. Still, at least they hospital are trying to accommodate the babies being together, which will be nice if it can be managed. Hopefully she won't have long to wait at all.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 03/03/2009 02:05

Oh nooooo poor Barbarelly ((hugs)) what a nightmare booooo!

well that went well, very useful appointment NOT!

Basically doctor told me to go and see my doctor tommorow to go get reassesed, possibly gallstones, but there are so many organs where i have pain he's not sure, best to get my doctor to refer me for an upper abdo scan. hmmmmmmm. was going to give me omeprazole but i already have that at home (due to having had gastritus prior to pregnancy, it is not the same pain either) so have taken 2 as instructed and been a good girl and also taken my morphine.

though i did learn that there is blood and protien in my wee. not sure what that means though. there are no (something)tytes (2 types were mentioned) but they were ok?!?

total waste of time. off to bed now will try and fight my surgery for an appointment in the morning and half kill myself trying to get there as well.

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 04:14

Nutty, if it's gallstones, according to the medical literature, they may disappear after pg. Failing that you have the option of surgery. In the meantime a low fat diet will do little harm and may do some good.

Gallstones

Protein in urine: Possible kidney problem, possible pre-eclampsia, possible urinary tract infection
Blood in urine: Possible urinary tract infection, possible kidney stone,
No leukocyctes (aka white blood cells): Makes an infection look less likely - you excrete these when you have any kind of infection
No nitrites (i.e. these would be a sign that bacteria are present): their absence also makes an infection look less likely

I reckon it's looking like a stone thing rather than an infection thing, and this is why he must have recommended the upper abdmonial scan for you. I am assuming your BP and so on are fine??

Apparent alternative remedies for gallstones:

  1. Reduce intake of animal fats
  2. Drink more water
  3. One of the following homeopathic remedies may have an outside chance of working, but you'd need to see a homeopath in order to work out which one IMO: Calcarea carbonica, Lycopodium, Podopyllum, Nux vomica, Barberis vulgaris, Dioscorea, Chelidonium majus and Colocynthis. Remember you have an NHS Homeopathic hospital in Bristol so could get a free referral.
  4. Spend a lot of money on wacko New Age US pseudo-medicines that do nothing.
BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 04:19

Bristol Homeopathic Hospital

Might help stone problem and back problem/SPD a bit??? You could maybe get the GP to do an urgent referral for you tomorrow perhaps??

Go for it, Nutty.

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 04:21

If you want to go down the homeopathic route, see if you can get an urgent referral to Dr Elizabeth Thompson (consultant) or Dr Moira Hamilton, because they do the urgent cancer referrals so might be up for an urgent pg referral perhaps??
