Chocolate fondant with slightly melted vanilla ice cream

Bleuravin · 03/03/2009 17:58

DH just suggested curry...and since I have to pick him up from work we could stop by a place on the way home...I like the mozzy and garlic idea though... mmmm

minush · 03/03/2009 17:58

I bet the lovely Pizza delivery people have good ice cream

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 17:58

Oh Minush your curry sounds good too.

No-one will deliver to me here - am in the sticks.

We do get a takeaway curry usually as a Friday night treat (even DD has some tarka dahl and pilau, and the cat guzzles popadums!) but it's a 6 mile drive.

minush · 03/03/2009 17:59

Oh God, I've actually started drooling

kazkiss · 03/03/2009 17:59

oooh am back. nap longer than expected.... only woken up by hubbby coming in from work and dog jumping all over me!

I feel that I should be working on birth plan but wondering what you can dictate with planned c section?? (elective for medical reasons)

I am too scared to look at cervix article. (maybe after dinner... (but am having fish pie )

minush · 03/03/2009 18:00

A popadum munching cat! He/she sounds fab

Bleuravin · 03/03/2009 18:02

oh... I've gone off sweets again as they leave yucky after tastes in my mouth I tell myself that at least I won't gain weight because of them

off to pick up DH and probably curry.
have a nice night ladies.

minush · 03/03/2009 18:03

Right, off to (ahem) ensure that my baby is adequately nourished

As a life-long, dyed in the wool greedy person, sometimes I adore being pregnant!

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 18:18

Birth preference plan from Lesley Regan book. It's normally recommended you don't make the thing too long otherwise people will struggle to read it all.

Things to consider:

  1. Who do you want with you? (DH presumably)
  2. Are you OK having student doctors and mw look after you?
  3. How do you feel about rupturing membranes and/or having a drip to speed up contractions? (NB: This can lead to other interventions).
  4. What are your views on fetal monitoring and internals? (NB: The only thing really necessary is a quick go with the fetal doppler from time to time. You don't need to be strapped to a machine, nor do you have to consent to internals, and they can make you discouraged anyway).
  5. How active or mobile do you want to be in labour? (Just enough to say active, probably, and mention birthing pools).
  6. If you end up having a cs, do you want DH with you?
  7. Would you prefer a tear to an episiotomy cut? (Tears are thought to heal more easily)
  8. Do you want to hold the baby first or do you want them to check it first?
  9. Do you or DH want to cut umbilical cord?
10. Do you want an injection afterwards to speed up the delivery of the placenta? (Not really necessary; sometimes they give you one so they can get you out of the room quicker, but it means you will bleed lochia for longer).

All the drugs and so on will be there anyway, so you don't need to specify those before labour.

SpringySunshine · 03/03/2009 18:20

"Do you want to come & watch me being a man?"
"Define 'being a man' "
"Drilling & stuff."
" ... Will there be nudity?"
"If you want."
"I'm only getting off the sofa if there'll be nudity. I don't care about the drill."
"Okay."
"Okay then."

So I've just sat & watched my naked DH fixing our door for the last few minutes.

I HATE THE SEX BAN.

frostyfrekkles · 03/03/2009 18:22

ooh just had a bit of a moment. blokey and i just cleaned out bangers (our adopted goldfish) together and afterwards stood looking at him asking each other, do you think he's ok? should we feed him? do you think the water's the right temperature? does he looked stressed? and then suddenly realised that we're going to be doing that with a baby soon... FUCK!!! bloody hell

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 18:23

Oh Boff - that mention of lochia reminds me. I'm not sure anyone replied to Juwesm when she asked how many packs of maternity towels to get in.

Ju - we discussed this a few weeks ago on here and it seemed fairly average for people to bleed for up to 6 weeks or longer. Some lucky ones got away with 3 weeks, unlucky ones had 12.

So in short - I think you need more than one pack of towels .

SpringySunshine · 03/03/2009 18:24

Don't be silly, frekkles. We're never actually going to have these babies. It's all an elaborate ruse.

frostyfrekkles · 03/03/2009 18:24

hahahahaha springy.. as your partner in pregnancy nookie i commiserate! I've had a visit from a certain speckled song bird again so no nookie here either. pah! you're allowed oral though eh?

LuLuBai · 03/03/2009 18:25

Oooooooh Springy - brilliant.

I'm going to ask DH to strip for household chores. (although he burnt himself ironing naked with a hangover recently, so perhaps not all chores should be performed in the buff!)

frostyfrekkles · 03/03/2009 18:27

a very fucking elaborate ruse .... right whose is it? lemme at em gits

i am cooking bangers and mash for tea, in tribute to the lovely bangers in his newly clean tank (currently looking well freaked out)

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 18:39

Schulte - That's dreadful. I have just signed the petition.

Juwesm - My PCT are keen to drive up homebirth numbers not least because they are cheap. Perhaps your is the same?
Anyway, hooray!!! I eagerly await your livebirth thread.
I loved Swallows amd Amazons when I was little. May I call you Titty?
I have seen excerpts from Wetlands which made me think I couldn't stomach reading the book.

Kaz - DH tried to convince me to eat black pudding the other day. I agreed to do so only if he would eat some of my placenta. His face was a picture, but hell if he can eat pigs blood eh!

Nutty - I just read your lunchtime post. I wish there was something we could do. I hope your appointment went ok and things are better this evening.

Frekkles - I have GOT to get myself a hula hoop. Great for getting your waist back after as well.

SpringySunshine · 03/03/2009 18:41

frekkles, I'm not allowed to orgasm, have his prostaglandins anywhere near me, or to allow thrusting to occur

I can still give BJs (I'm apparently meant to spit, but never mind), but that's about it!

LuLu, for a second I read that as he burnt himself ironing with a coathanger - the mind boggled

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 18:47

Springy - this is the head labour honcho, I think.

Dr Diana Fothergill, Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Qualified 1979.

Home address (in case you and your cervix fancy stalking her): Dr. Diana Fothergill, Court Lodge, 50a Trap Lane, Sheffield S117RD.

Work address:
Consultant Gynaecologist, Jessop Wing, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield
Tel 01142 268166

Apparently she teaches on how to run labour wards, and has an interest in adolescent gynaecology as well as female genital mutilation reversal (TMI?) Interesting woman.

Just see if she has a clinic and then ask your GP to be referred to it asap because you are very worried etc etc, and you really feel the need to talk to a consultant about all this, after your experiences at the weekend. You might end up being an interesting case study for her ...

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 18:49

Puzzle, you may indeed call me Titty, if it so pleases you. I often wondered, if I had the choice, whether I would be Susan, Titty or Nancy. Susan does the cooking, which I like, but is a bit anal. Titty seems to have lots of fun, possibly gay. Nancy is well'ard, also possibly gay, but in charge of everything. Needless to say, I didn't really consider their sexual orientation when I was small, these are things which have occurred to me now. Jolly good show.

Lulu - wasn't actually planning to get by with just the one pack! . Lumme. But don't want to buy 20 on special offer and not need them. Also don't want to have to send DH out for extra supplies and be supplied with wrong ones!

SpringySunshine · 03/03/2009 18:52

Boffin, I'm really not sure how you come up with these things - including home addresses! - but I'm very impressed (& a little scared ). I shall investigate & ask for a referral. Thanks xx

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 18:53

I wonder if orally administered natural prostaglandins would really have a systemic effect? Wonder how the PG content of erm, cucumber juice, compares to amount in pharmaceuticals?

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 18:53

Nutty that sure sounds worth getting off the sofa for. DH has promised to finish painting and drilling things in the bathroom tomorrow. I will suggest it!

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 18:54

Sorry meant Springy.
