Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 18:55

Ju, buy four packs of 10 or 12 and alert DH to fact he may need to buy more.

You get through 2 packs just in the first day or two.

SpringySunshine · 03/03/2009 18:56

It's definitely worth suggesting. Frankly, I was surprised at his willingness - obviously I'm getting the sympathy vote at the moment

Boff, speaking of Nutty - what do you make of her text earlier, WRT pre-eclampsia?

Juwesm · 03/03/2009 18:56

Jeepers.

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 19:01

Would you like her bra size as well??
Only kidding.

bronze · 03/03/2009 19:13

/Just catching up

Poor Nutty sounds like she might beat Springy to it at this rate. Problem with PE lets hope its not) is that it can't be cured except by the pregnancy ending.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 19:16

Juwesm - If your definition of cervix dust is correct, then I best not let any asthmatics near mine.

Boff - Well done for staying away from the tedious live chat.

Lulu - We had our initials on our games kit too. No funny ones but our Chemistry teacher was called Brenda Day. Mrs B Day.
I've not been probing my cervix either.
I'm 5'5. I only went down to 7lb 4 after DD. I don't intend to be that skinny ever again. Pregnancy was the first time in my life I ever had hips or proper boobs.
And your right about a third baby. I may not feel the same way after this little one arrives.

Kitty - We lived in a flat when DD was born. I found it much more manageable than a house. No downsides to report.

Dungun - No antenatal classes here. Don't worry about missing out, you can meet Mums other ways, baby and toddler groups, baby clinic etc.

Swaliswan - Good to hear you got the all clear from the midwife.

Boff - The John Lewis fiasco was ridiculous. Like a Harry Enfield sketch.

Right I am up to 3.30pm. Must put DD to bed then will continue the catch up.

bronze · 03/03/2009 19:22

whats a proper weight to put on during pregnancy?
Ive never had scales before and now I'm intrigued

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 19:24

Springy: I did worry about pre-eclampsia but she didn't mention her BP so I didn't have enough information.

I think they should give her a section as soon as the baby is remotely ready because she can't go on like this.

Ju: Do not buy normal sanitary pads for the first few weeks as they have plastic in and you can get infections and rashes on your bits if you are not careful. After 6 weeks you might be OK if still bleeding to use normal ones. Same goes for breast pads btw - if they have plastic in it is juicious to put a washable breast pad or a pad with no plastic inside next to the breast, otherwise your nipples don't breathe properly.

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 19:25

I was trying to type judicious.

BoffinMum · 03/03/2009 19:26

Bronze - 10-20 kg is considered vaguely normal. Obese women put on less, skinny women put on more.

bronze · 03/03/2009 19:30

Oh thats ok then. I've put on about 10 and to me a stone seems a lot so was thinking it seemed a huge amount. Dont think I'm obese though just had the wonders of an upset stomach after dinner everynight to help me.

mumblemumhome4lunch · 03/03/2009 19:31

evening all
RANT ALERT
Had a pretty long day, have loads of stuff to do - last minute wedding stuff like orders of service to finish & DD dress to finish (putting zip in which is bit I hate and always up), but feeling too knackered to face it just yet.

Think I need a good dose of APril Ladies Therapy......even just reading all your chat makes you feel much better, not even sure why !

Have spent most of today out shopping for bits and pieces and that's just no fun with pre-schooler and toddler getting bored after 1/2hr or so. Still, they are peacefully in bed now which is pretty good going so I do finally have my feet up for a few mins.

Hope everyone else has had a good day.

OH btw I'm having a massive trouser problem at the mo......felt the need last week to adjust all mine as getting ever larger and since then I seemingly can't keep any of them up, both over bump and under just keep slipping down . Find I'm spending all my time pulling them up and tops down to prevent embarrasement - noy helped by DS who has decided he wants to "see" baby (puts his eye up to my tummy button like it's a telescope!) and hug baby every few mins but can only do this if my whole bump is completely revealed to all and sundry. Would be v.cute if it wasn't quite so

SORRY that was longer than I thought but I do feel better for it.

BabyBolat · 03/03/2009 19:33

ha Ha springy - that is likely to be a very short period of time - although you are more than welcome!

Bleu _ i'll probably right all of this and then find out others have answered but hey I want to sound knowledgeable for once on the thread.

I think we are in pretty similar situations.

  1. Let your mw know you want it as natural as possible but want to see how things progress and if you need extra support like gas and air, pethedine, tens epidural that the option is there - they are likely to be in the room anyway so don't worry. As for the afterbirth you can chose whether you want the injection. I have said no at this stage but for it to be there incase I have a particularly long and tiresome labour - like before the decision will be taken on the day. My point is you can have a plan but you can change your mind on the day - NOTHING is set in stone so try not to worry about it.

Vitimin K is given as standard unless you specifically ask for it not to be. It is either given as an injection or orally, the injection tends to make the babies cry a bit but then liquid Vit K can be awkward as it has to go in with the first feed and can make it a bit yuk for babies - the way I see it, crying in the first few minutes is what you want to hear so if they pop a little needle in and get it out the way then the better.

Yep see most people have covered that off but hey!

DH will be attending but when I first discussed this with him was completely alien to him as that is just not the done thing in Turkey but he is really excited about it now.

Oh poor nutts, I thought it might be something like that but didn't want to bring it up earlier as she has been so very stressed lately and down about everything (The good thing is, it might get her an earlier delivery she has 5 weeks until she is 37 weeks right?!!) but bless it is DD's birthday this week so hope she doesn't end up in hospital for that after all the planning! The bonus is hospitals HAVE to take all that very seriously, so if it is, she is likely to have regular monitoring and possibly hospital stays where they can give her more drugs to help her out with the pain!

Supper, I just had spinach and cheese savory pancakes (home made), I quickly wizzed round the house with the hoover, got all my stuff ready for work tomorrow (poo london - even more poo is black tie awards dinner in the evening and NOTHING fits!) although yay for lovely nice knightsbridge hotel...have hidden anything messy upstairs, made some RLT, made some bread for DH lunch tomorrow along with leftover pancakes and friend will be here in 20 minutes! phew - my feet are the size of elephants and I am boiling but feel a little bit more organised!

I have had 4pints of milk today - that can't be good right???

Ok big post - will send before I have to catch up again!!

BabyBolat · 03/03/2009 19:34

Oh Ju I only have one pack at the moment but will purchase some more at the weekend!

bronze · 03/03/2009 19:35

mumble- partner oh mine.

I haven't really chatted to you so haven't got up the guts to text you. Don't know if you're on msn or anything?

mathsmummy27 · 03/03/2009 19:36

hellloooo ladies! gald to see you are all feeling yourselves

Boff is right, cervix may be up and back and if so inaccessible to those with short fingers. Springy you sound like you may have the right sort of thing though. By my (admittedly amateur) measurements I'm about 2-3cm dilated, and can feel head very low so excited. Sure it will be weeks yet though, don't worry BB.

I had a major observation today (last thing, was knackered from no sleep and contractions all night) and managed to get top grade so am feeling great..it means I have finally finished this part of my professional career, and passed with flying colours. phew

mumblemumhome4lunch · 03/03/2009 19:41

Can absolutely vouch for this from the Boff......."HB insider secret - if you get transferred in, you are that little bit more likely to get good midwifery care and/or a single amenity room afterwards if one is free, as they might well feel sorry for you" exactly what happened to me both times

Juwesm - HB checks mind you, you've prob heard from other already, but I was told it's really just about how much space there is where you plan to do the deed and just the mechanics of getting set up with that in mind.....for a lot of the time my midwives kept in the background and left us to it, which is what we wanted, and only got involved when things started to get tricky for me.

Puzzle - about DS name, thanks we love it but not everyones cup of tea and always nice to find others do too !

kazkiss · 03/03/2009 19:44

I only have one pack too! Must go buy more. Must also pack my hospital bag which everyone in my family seems concerned about at the moment.

need to buy adequate maternity sleepwear as have been getting away with larger pjs. but now they are not meeting in the middle which is quite distressing.

DH has just had fun hour playing with new baby monitor. and is insisting on leaving it on for a bit (not sure what he hopes to hear)

I am loving the idea of the naked DIY..... but as hubby has got his real drill bit stuck in his drill at the weekend and has not managed to get it out since... not sure such a good idea.

mumblemumhome4lunch · 03/03/2009 19:50

Bronze !!!

Been thinking of texting you just haven't gotten round to it as bit bogged down with wedding stuff this last week or so......can concentrate on baby stuff afterwards !!

Would love to spend more time on MN but impossible during day as both DS and DD just want to "help" if I go anywhere near the computer ! So if I get anytime it's about an hour of so roiund about now......hence why catching up is just impossible !!!

bronze · 03/03/2009 19:53

I'm struggling to get on at the moment too with the running around after the littluns.
I'll text you my email address soon so we can catch up on details of our birth plans

mumblemumhome4lunch · 03/03/2009 20:01

Sounds great bronze.

Am soooo of first timers (nothing personal !)

Mind you, don't miss working when pregnant, especially later on.....but I was based at home and on the road a lot which had it's down sides but also ment I could sneak cat naps and raid the fridge v. easily

mumblemumhome4lunch · 03/03/2009 20:11

Group B Strep test done?
I'm due to have one at 36wks cause I was +ve with no1 at 8wks when I was admitted for threatened mc BUT no-one ever told me then and I had no further tests during that pregnancy !!

Was noticed late on during preg no2 and test done at 36wks was -ve. Wasn't re-tested at all. V.glad for -ve result as they wouldn't have allowed a HB if it was +ve.

Test due this time is 36wks again. Apparently if +ve will have to be on anti-biotic drip during labour.

Seems daft system as, as I understand it, the bug can come and go with no pattern.

PuzzleRocks · 03/03/2009 20:15

Springy - Thank heavens for the lovely midwife. That sounded like a really positive appointment. Good to hear you sounding much less stressed about everything. What a difference being listened to actually makes.
DH won't let me iron his shirts either. Suits me fine.
And try not to worry too much about a section . Easy for me to say but I have heard plenty of positive section stories on here. As Bronze say, sometimes the recovery can be quicker than with a vaginal birth. Anyway, it may not come to that.

BB - Glad you had a good appointment too. Agreed, no money is worth the extra wait. I only went three days over with DD and I was hellish.

Swaliswan - That's really poor of the nursery.

Now, do I want to look at a cervix thread...? I bet Mathsmummy is over there.

conkertree · 03/03/2009 20:15

ok i give up again - tried to catch up all day so i could finally get on and say hello - got to 13.50 and have refreshed the page and it looks like i'd still have another half hour of reading to do. so am sorry but have given up.

i know its rude to just butt in and post, but i've had a rubbish evening and just want to say hello to some friendly voices. nothing too bad just ds being sick everywhere and taking forever to settle in bed - he's not ill think he just ate something that didnt agree with him but he was in the mood to stay up and play and its tough - have had all day playing so its now evening and time for me to be selfish and watch some telly.

had mw today - bit of glucose in urine - maybe i've been tucking into the chocolate too much??? and blood pressure up a bit but neither seems too bad - just to keep an eye on them.

shame for barbarella but as others say - great if it means they get to be in the same hospital.

who was it having bh last night- schulte maybe? how are you today anyway whoever it was?

sorry shouldnt really ask questions as they have probably been answered lower down the thread.

hi to the newbies. but i blame you for the amount to be read so as well that i cant catch up.

mumblemumhome4lunch · 03/03/2009 20:16

Maternity pads - Just remember I got through shed loads. Would recommend people get/use maternity bed mats (can get in Boots and prob elsewhere) in case of leaks over night. If you can't use them, Pampers do a Bedmat (in the nappy section) as well which works just the same.

For anyone that hasn't thought of it......get a pack now as useful if your someone whose waters go with a bang - I have one in bed, one on the sofa and one on the car seat, just in case
