chocolatebunnies- my friend was planning a home water birth, but ended up having an emergency cesction (it was her first delivery so guess as you've had a natural delivery before you know you can do it). But best to have a bag ready just in case.

FiKelly · 23/02/2009 20:54

tummum i wasn't at all sure about having a boy last time... I didn't realise how much i'd wanted a girl until they told us it was a boy at our 20wk scan. To start off with i was kinda disappointed in a way and hoping they'd got it wrong. I kept thinking I'd wait until he was born to believe it for sure. As it turns out DS is absolutely gorgeous and I fell in love with our boy as soon as i saw him & just love every day... seeing the changes and developments he manages. I'm now expecting a girl (they say) but TBH if they have it wrong this time I'll be delighted either way. The only prob will be the mounds of ebay girly clothes that I'll need to re-list!

I'm not too concerned with getting my bag sorted. Last time I just took an overnight bag with a change of clothes, stuff for the baby, toiletries and bits and bobs. DH came in everyday to re-stock my supplies, after being supplied with a daily shopping list!

FiKelly · 23/02/2009 21:08

my dh got in a real flap last time. All normal common sense went out the window with worry and tiredness. They tried inducing me for 3 days without getting anywhere... so by the time the Emcs happened on day 4 he was worn out with it all and the 40mile round trip to the hospital everyday to see me... he was fine by the time i was transferred to our local MW unit a few days after the cs as it was 10 mins from the flat and not so tiring

As I said, better safe than sorry. Nothing wrong with taking antibiotics as a precautionary measure. Trust me, you don't want an infection down there where it's impossible to keep clean.

I was totally incapable of getting up, let alone sitting up and got told "Nothing wrong with you, but hey, we can't all be as strong when in pain" or some such - i.e. I was a sissy It turned out that episiotomy was infected and they let me out of the hospital like that, with a couple of paracetamol tablets in hand.

This time, I will take my own antibiotics and my own painkillers the minute baby comes out, thank you very much.

FiKelly · 23/02/2009 21:13

Just in case i do end up with another CS I have also bought some major trapped wind relief tablets... i had some really uncomfortable wind last time!

By the way, does anyone else go through several weeks when you put on no weight & bump feels nice and easy, and then all of a sudden, it feels like it will explode? Then you weigh yourself and see you have put on 2 kg in 2 days or something?

I don't remember this from when pregnant with DD. Is it a boy bump thing?

sausagenmash · 23/02/2009 21:23

OMG - infected episiotomies - OW

One of the girls in the office went mad today when she was talking to my bump - and then she could see it moving!! She was squealing all over the place!

All this talk of home births is making me woozy. My sister in law had one a few years ago - only because my brother couldn't get her into the car quick enough! Mum and I went over to babysit my other nephew... put it this way, I spent an hour scrubbing the carpet after they'd left, (I felt very cinderalla) but their insurance still paid for a new carpet! And as the carpet was the same downstairs AND up the stairs AND on the landing - well, their whole house practically got re-done. So I delivered my own nephew (like I was any good, uguggggh) I think SIL must have got carpet burns on her bottom. It was all rather quick and messy! Heeeeeeelp!! I'm going to be USELESS come L Day!!! (tsk - call myself a nurse!)

FiKelly · 23/02/2009 21:32

cote same thing is happening to me all of a sudden... I weighed myself this morning to find i've put on nearly 3.5 lbs since last week! up till now i've maybe put on 1lb if anything per week... so now i've gone from putting on 1 stone 3lbs to 1.5 in just the last week. Hoping this week has just been a growth spurt as I don't want to put on this much every week for the next 12!!!

hospital bag? do I have to bring things to the hospital? oh dear, haven't even dreamed about that. guess I will start thinking about it...
sausage, can't believe your SIL story! what a quick birth. well done you though!

sausagenmash · 23/02/2009 22:29

I know, momino it was very quick! She woke up thinking she needed to do a poo, and it wasn't a poo!! Think it took less than an hour!!

FiKelly · 23/02/2009 22:29

I'm radiating so much heat at night dh was struggling! so he suggested switching to our summer duvet and he changed our bed linen at same time. just experiencing the bliss of getting into a cool freshly changed bed with egyptian cotton linen.. heaven just keeping fingers crossed ds sleeps through tonight.

OP posts:
detsy · 23/02/2009 22:33

Ah bliss I love clean bedding

Sausage - fingers crossed that will be me this time - some poo hey

Been trawling the internet as I NEED a farm animal costume by Weds morning for DD. We had a duck one at Easter which I was relying on but can I find the damn thing anywhere - no of course not!! Anyone any great ideas - can't sew BTW!!

detsy · 23/02/2009 22:35

DP has currently decamped to guest room as his CPAP mask is driving me just as mad as the snoring does - between him and DD I think I last slept through the night oh about 4 years ago....

detsy · 23/02/2009 22:36

Febes re threading - I get mine done too but I find it bloodyhurts and makes my eyes stream - do you? Hope back is better!!

detsy · 23/02/2009 22:42

Oh on last thing before bed - I'm def putting my Quinny Buzz on ebay tomo. Its here in front of me waiting to be photgraphed - is immaculate, comes with Dreami carrycot, car seat adapters (but not car seat) reversible pushchair seat, two sets of raincovers (cot and buggy) parasol, changing bag, pump, insect net covers for both cot and buggy, footmuff and matching blanket. Hmm think thats it - its the suplhur colour - ier bright green and yellow. Very sad to see it go but silly to have it sitting here when I need a double and have a Bee as well

If anyone is interested let me know!!

chocolatebunnies · 23/02/2009 22:47

detsy i would have loved it but dp says no just out of curiosity how much were you looking for it?

i thoroughly enjoyed my bath, decided against taking laptop and took magazine instead, bliss!

FiKelly · 23/02/2009 22:48

detsy go for a cow.. pink rubber glove for udder, cardboard triangles on an alice band for ears or made out of a paper plate.. have a link on laptop i can look out for that tomorrow , dress her in tights/leggings and t-shirt of same colour.. eg black and stick on patches of white paper with double sided sticky tape add black tights tail stuffed with something and instant freesian(sp) cow? !

OP posts:
detsy · 23/02/2009 22:55

Hi choc good question - with the cot on ebay they seem to go for about £250/300 - I was going to put on a £250 reserve price so I guess the price would be £250 to a MNetter!

Glad you enjoyed your bath and glad lap top didn't go with you

detsy · 23/02/2009 22:59

FI god you're a creative thinker girl! Love the idea, hmm wondering if i can pull it off. Can i get black leggings and t shirt for a toddler...?? Could do brown and have a brown and white cow (whatever they are called..!!) Thanks chuck, you're a whizz!! Off to Wilkos tomo for some stuff! x

CoteDAzur · 24/02/2009 07:46

re weight gain - I've been very careful with what I eat and was very smug that I put on only 5 kgs in 5.5 months of pregnancy. All because my obstetrician had the funny idea that if I put on less weight this time, baby would be smaller, and birth would be easier (I put on 17 kgs with DD, and she was 4 kg at birth).

Then came the 5 month scan. Specialist there has data from my last pregnancy and said... this baby is slightly bigger than DD was at this stage

I went home from the scan and ate three plates of pasta then put on 3 kgs in 1 week!

Now back to the diet. Not because I think baby will be smaller but because it looks like I will blow up like a balloon if I don't.

Already got doctor to agree that if this baby is over 4 kgs he will give me a c-section. Fun fun fun.

CoteDAzur · 24/02/2009 07:48

Apologies if I already said all this before. Between DD's fever, snoring DH, and the stress of having to move to another apartment in a month, no brain cells left whatsoever.

chocolatebunnies · 24/02/2009 08:14

detsy im i would have loved your Buzz, and its in my fav colour of the Buzz but we really cant afford it, you know how it is! Hope you find someone to love it!

i've woken up feeling like crap today, the last two nights when i go to bed my throat hurts, it then hurts all night and in the morning, but by 11 its gone??!! have no idea whats causing it, also feeling really tierd and sickly today not to mention down and grumpy aswell, so dont have high hopes for me enjoying today have already had tears once and its only just gone 8am

i think it could be all to do with it being pancake day today, being a coeliac, i cant have them, and it sucks! also might have a little bit to do with me feeling rather stroppy about the detsys buzz!lol! damn men! i know he's right, but still! if i want to be humphhhhhhh about it i will!

whats everyone up to today?

FiKelly · 24/02/2009 08:43

detsy a brown cow sounds great

Here are some links for making hats/head gear out of normal large paper plates...

use the idea of this but with 2 ears instead

could be made into a mask by punching a hole on either side and adding elastic/or ribbon ties

off to get DS organised for going to playgroup this morning... have fun & back on later

cote I think your obs had a silly idea with the diet! I gained 25kg twice and my babies were 3.825kg and 3.650kg (in that order), so your 17kg is perfectly OK. I always thought 15kg is normal average weight gain anyway, so you were only 2kg above that. I do the same thing too: growing in spurts. I'm the same weight for ages and then suddenly I swell up. I'm fearing for 32 weeks to come, because that's when most of my weight gain happened before. I think I was doing about 1-1.5kg a month up til then and then the other 15kg came on after 32weeks . No idea why.
Still not sure about taking your own ABX in though, there's a huge problem with resistance because of people taking them when they're not needed and there are so many kinds that you might be taking one kind, but the infection you get is actually caused by a bacteria that is sensitive to another kind and so your ABX would do absolutely nothing for fight your infection. I think one of those hospital hygiene kits that were posted before should work just as well + asking staff about hand hygiene, which you're entitled to ask anyway, encouraged even with the 'Wash your hands' campaign.

fi Gosh you're handy. When I try making things it never looks anything like the picture! Good luck detsy with the cow costume.

chocbunnies I completely understand how lack of sleep can make you feel. Any chance you can have a nap today? Hope you feel better soon.

Ah, pancake day. I forgot about that. We've used all our eggs and the chickens have laid only 1. The dcs will ask for pancakes too. Hmmm, maybe I'll just have to pretend that everyone is wrong and we'll have some tomorrow, by which time the chickens should have produced a few more eggs. I refuse to buy eggs now we've got our very own.

I've got my annual supervisory meeting with my supervisor of mw today. I've only ever had 1 when I was very newly qualified and so I have no idea what to expect, I'm a bit nervous especially because my supervisor happens to be our head of midwifery and she's a bit scary!
