grumpy i'm sure you're not a big heifer! The other girl is obviously just freakily skinny!!!

Fi TBH I am a (little) bit of a heifer, not enormous, but I do seem to attract 'ooooh huge' comments and I did with the other 2. I carried lots of fluid and had a whopping placenta with both so I think it's that rather than the banana bread and chocolate chip shortbread (yeah right).

We've had mad buyers before - sometimes you wonder whether they actually read the Estate Agent stuff first.....Anyway, I have fingers and everything I can cross crossed. We actually moved from the shoebox when DD2 was a week old which was fun.

FiKelly · 05/03/2009 14:20

thanks grumpy .. keeping everything crossed too. just getting ds dressed AGAIN and off to do mums food shop.. back later.. x

fi Good luck with that flat. You do wonder why people come to see your flat if they're looking for direct access to the garden AND double glazing. Some people

grumpy I attract the same kind of comments with all my pregnancies. I'm normally a 10-12, so I know I'm not fat. I suppose I just get huge bumps. Most people seem to think I'm due about now!

re: Health in Pregnancy grant. I can't understand why GP surgeries don't know about it. They clearly don't read their post. I got several leaflets with my RCM magazine and my own GP has a big poster hanging up. It's not as if it's costing the GP/MW anything to sign the form. Great that there's a help line though, I didn't know about that.

Ikea wasn't too busy. I think I found what I needed, but I wanted DH to come and have a look. He didn't want to come today, so we'll have to go back tomorrow. Very annoying.

DH is now lying on the sofa asleep, man flu I think. Somehow I know if I were to just take time out like that I'd get: why hasn't this or that been done yet, it's OK when he does it. The reason he's tired is that he's had a bad night's sleep, because DS came into our bed at 3am and he couldn't go back to sleep. At the same time he kept me awake too because he was tossing and turning and then he was snoring away while I woke up from the cat and dcs getting up after about 1h sleep. So all together I should be lying on the sofa, because I had even less sleep!

Grumpy I watched that programme this morning too, her baby weighed 11lb 120z didn't it. I gasped at the thought of pushing that out, and she needed no stitches either.

Gosh my head is spliting today

ladyhelen2 · 05/03/2009 16:40

Am rather glad I missed that Home Birth programme. 11lb 12. How did she manage to get it out?????

grumpy I think people just have no idea how big pg women can get. I have had no end of comments this week - ooh you can't have long to go and when I say 8 weeks, they are clearly speechless. Thing is I know I'm not THAT huge as I weighed myself and am completely within the average expected weight gain. I just think people expect us all to be celebrity size now and its not fair on us regular pg ladies!

Polony · 05/03/2009 17:38

Grumpy there isn't a great amount of me behind the bump and people are saying "you're huge! You sure theres only one in there?/you must be due any day now". I give up. I think ladyhelen has a point about people just not realising how big a bump needs to get before the baby is big enough to be born.

I found out today that the only reason I was an average birth weight (7 1/3 pounds i think mum said, as opposed to my brothers who were both massive) is that I was born two weeks early. Now you tell me! I pleaded that our fathers were very tall hefty men and my voice just faded as I said "and DP is only 6ft, although he does have a ... big... head...and shoulders...oh...". I have a small head and if I was 7 1/3 at two weeks early...hmmm. Oh well. Better get busy with the perineal massage oil.

Grumpy thats awful about those women - meow! To make comments like that AND THEN not give you a seat (clearly you need one, carrying twins/ about to pop and all). Thats permission to say to one of them next time, so when are YOU due? Oh really, you're not pregnant? I could have sworn...from the side...

I ate a whole packet of dried mango yesterday after all that talk of dried fruit. I still want a banana daquiri on the beach in malaysia. What do you say girls? Cocktails by the water at 7?

Belgianchocolates · 05/03/2009 19:22

Ooh yes, Polony. A cocktail would be nice On my b'day (in jan) I had lots of virgin mojitos, while my family and DH got more and more drunk on the real thing. Not quite the same, but still nice.

Actually polony, I think you're right about people not knowing how big you're supposed to be. When I was 20 weeks I got myself measured for a bra and the lady in Mothercare thought I was only tiny. Well, of course I wasn't very big yet; I was only just about halfway!

My lack of sleep has hit me now. I think I might just have to go to bed at the same time as the dcs...

Belgianchocolates · 05/03/2009 19:23

Sorry ladyhelen it was you making the point about people not knowing how big you're supposed to be. The tiredness is getting to me I think!

Febes · 05/03/2009 19:31

I'll have a cosmopolitian please.

divedaisy · 05/03/2009 19:31

Oh Polony - I'm there with you right NOW! Mines a Mojito!! I've been wanting one of those for WEEKS... It's my birthday next week and I may just go ahead and have one - would it do any harm (except give me a taste for them!!)

Tummum - my birthday is next Thursday 12th!! I'll be 'celebrating' my 40th!!! Though to be honest a celebration's the last thing on my mind. I've been asked by my mum, sister, DH etc what do you want?? Well the only things that fit me now are handbags and jewelry!!! Oh and cake too!!! As for your list of things to do Tummum - very good! I think we all could do with taking some of that advice. As for thinking of something for yourself - massage, manicure, hair cut (or even a wash & blow dry), go to a cafe with your favourite book & order latte/tea/hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows on top and chill reading for an hour .. or 2!

Lazzer - totally by your mw too. I'd report her - but who do you contact??? All her 'advice' is totally scary, and I think for the sake of other more naive mums-to-be something would need to be done about her practice. What centuary is she from???

Jael - I googled 'pregnancy grant form' and found the contact details - I won't post them again as someone has already given you their number. But you definately need to speak to them. You're entitled to this £190 as much as the rest of us. I know I wouldn't let it go without a fight. As for your gp/mw not hearing of it - what planet are they on???

HtheH - foam mattresses are perfectly OK. I put muslins down on mine over the bottom sheet to catch any spills. I found one for my moses basket did ne. Your baby will only be in the basket for a few months, before progressing into a cot.

LoobyLou - Oh you're like me!! I don't know what I'm having and whilst I do have some unisex outfits I didn't really think they looked girly enough (although would do perfectly well!) SO... I bought some in Mexx's sale for a girl -Oh so gorgeous!! If I have a boy I'll either ebay them or give them away as pressies!! I bought my reusable nappies off www.usednappies.co.uk - its a second hand auction site solely devoted to reusables! I got bambineo ones at a great price.

divedaisy · 05/03/2009 19:33

Belgian - is a virgin mojito one without the bacardi??? what was it like??

FiKelly · 05/03/2009 19:34

belgian i won't be far behind you in heading off to bed...

I spoke to the estate agents again and it turns out that the viewers have not ruled us out the problem is that they had started looking at cheaper properties and ours is not in the budget they were initially thinking of. They have nothing to sell... it's an investment prop (kinda) Their daughter is going to the local college and they are wanting to buy a flat for her to live in & rent out a room to her friend for the duration she's here at college. The daughter has apparently fallen in love with our place so it comes down to whether she can afford to live here on a monthly basis... council tax/maintenance/gas/elec/water etc. The estate agents are going to chase them up next week... so keep everything crossed for a while longer yet that they come up with an offer that is not absolutely stupid!

On an even brighter note... I have just checked my email to find out i've won a pair of designer maternity jeans! I never win anything so this has made my day... esp after such a doom and gloom start. It was a competition by Blossom maternity I have no idea what they are like but none of their stuff is cheap... I'm over the moon!!!!!

I had another nose bleed today! I've had a few in the past few weeks. Never had such a run of them before - quite weird. Anyway I was driving down the road and got an itchy nose so i gave it a hard rub - next thing the blood is pouring down my chin! Thankfully I was on my way home after the school run and there was an old towel in my van!! I had to plug my nose for half an hour! Yuck!!

FiKelly - congratulations!! I won a baby hand casting kit after ds was born!! In fact I'd highly recommend buying one and casting your childs hand (easy to do when they are asleep) I keep looking at the cast now and can't believe how small it looks!!!

Our shop opened last night!!! All MY hard work paid off cos the place looked really really well. And that isn't the official launch either!! We're holding a champagne bar-b-q with the skate park to launch our shop and their revamped park on 21 March - that'll be great fun! I've received a few good 'well done' phone calls today from the skate parks directors whoa re really pleased with what we're doing and our opening success. I feel this is going to be good. And I took today off ( well to get time to sort out the home office!!! ) It was lovely to be home - so maybe my unpaid maternity leave has now started!!!

Away to get ds to bed!

Tummum · 05/03/2009 19:46

Divedaisy can't believe you have the same birthday as me I am planning on buying myself a Radley and some Bobbi Brown make up... after all can't buy clothes at the mo ! I have just found out that I will find out whether I have a job or not next Thursday so have moved my shopping date to a Friday so I can splurge with delight or to commiserate.

I'll have a mojito too please. Hopefully the mint will kill my heartburn

ladyhelen & grumpy if someone else asks if I'm having twins and then laughs like it is really funny, I am seriously going to poke them in the eye !! When else is it OK to say to anyone 'you are really big / fat / enormous' ?? Even people who already have kids think it's funny or OK to say.

llareggub · 05/03/2009 19:56

dandy one of the unexpected side-effects of getting gestational diabetes is that I think I have actually lost weight. I was overweight to start with, but I'm hoping that the lifestyle changes required of me during this pregnancy will be habit forming. GD does increase the risk of getting type 2 diabetes in later life so it is in my interest to keep this up!

fikelly fingers crossed for the flat and well done on winning the jeans. Maybe this is the start of a lucky streak?

I'm really, really tired today after doing the weekly shop. The trolley got way to heavy and unpacking the trolley at the checkout was a nightmare. I might have to switch to online shopping at this rate.

DS is being a nightmare at the moment and will not go to bed. He gets all snug and sleepy and then the moment we suggest bed he turns into a real livewire, bouncing off the walls and running up and down the landing. We've resorted to driving him around the countryside in an attempt to find some sort of evening for ourselves. We've booked him into the grandparents tomorrow evening so we are treating ourselves to a meal out and are going to spend the afternoon painting the nursery, all toddler free! Bliss...

FiKelly · 05/03/2009 20:10

llareggub i too am finding a fully laden with food and toddler trolley hard on me physically.. mum hasn't got enough oomph to push it.. at least she likes sainsbury's so i can use the fast track scanner and pack as we go round. no unloading at checkout unless we get a re scan. i then ask customer services to help lift the boxes into the car. we time shopping to collect dh from his train so he can unload when we get to my mums. takes about 2.5 hrs to get round sainsbury's etc and straight in to cook for ds and us. my mum might have to make other arrangements soon.. totally shattered.

would be fab if jeans are start of a winning streak.. bought a euro lucky dip this afternoon with last £1.50 left in my purse ;)

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 05/03/2009 20:24

fi what about online shopping? I find pushing a fully laden trolley impossible because of the SPD. They put it into your kitchen if you ask and you don't have to keep a toddler happy. I've used Sainsbury's/tesco and ocado since my 2nd pregnancy and it makes life so much easier.

divedaisy A virgin mojito is one without the bacardi. It's nice, because it's non-alcoholic and not sweet either. So that's nice and refreshing, because most non-alcoholic stuff is sweet.

llare I think you've just answered why on earth I'm craving imperial peppermints (has to be the cheap value ones from Home Bargains ) It could just well be because of my heartburn!

Right, bedtime now. Goodnight everyone

My mum is a bit at ocado prices and our only other online/delivery option is tescos (our sainsbury's doesn't offer delivery here) and mum doesn't like their ready meals... which she buys a fair amount of these days. I suggested to her today maybe to see if my dad's sister (same age as mum) would come down to weston and help her with the shopping? I pointed out that when the baby comes I won't be able to do it for a while... until the nights/days settle a bit and i have enough energy to face doing it with our now 2 kids in tow.
