Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

Hi all! Still recovering from the Elbow gig last night - completely BRILLIANT and the baby seemed to like it (did plenty of wriggling anyway). But gosh I can't stand up for hours without feeling like the blood is pooling in my feet - really feel for all the preggers hairdressers and other ladies on their feet all day - must be horrendous.
Gosh so much sling information - it's great! Talked to DH about the sling business tonight - I really want to try one (but couldn't cope with oodles of fabric and origami - need clips and buckles me - wouldn't feel safe otherwise). Was getting a bit obsessed by his glass back and our height difference, but he says to leave him out of it if it makes life easier.
Little parcel of re-usable Tots Bots Fluffles arrived at work today, courtesy of those fab people at Bumfluff (top tip Phoenix - thank you!!). Couldn't resist as they were on special offer, so I got 8 to start me off. Wasn't actually going to do anything about re-usables until baby arrived, and then I was going to try a few different brands before making a decision, but it seemed like such a good deal so I took the plunge. Gosh they're cute !! Baby will have a big white fluffy bot. Trouble is I forgot about the wraps so I need to put in another order. What a dope.
Little sis is donating cot bed and then I'm set on an Amby for in our bedroom and travelling. She's also donating a pushchair and a pram so we're very lucky and it also means less decisions to make thank goodness. DP has still done bugger all about the car seats, other than suggest we change my car so we both have isofix. Seems a bit like overkill to me. Heaven knows how he thinks we'll pay for it on SMP?!??

Cheekycel · 04/03/2009 21:55

hi All,

Had scan yesterday, am still in awe at seeing the little one! Date has now changed to 10/7 as apparently im 21+5 and not 19
Still dont know the sex as he/she had its legs clamped tight.

Re slings, am really intrigued and just started doing some research.Gutted that I never made it to the babyshow on Sunday as it seems that I missed out. Need to draw up a list of everything i might need and pray not to go overboard

Good luck for all the scans xx

ilikeyoursleeves · 04/03/2009 21:56

jetli that is FREAKY! I was just texting pal about whether she wanted 2 tickets for Elbow this Friday then i read your post. Do do do do do do do do

JetLi · 04/03/2009 22:01

Princessbuttercup I just asked DP if he noticed whether I was snoring now I had a bun in the oven. His reponse was "No more than usual chuck" - wasn't aware I'd ever snored. Apparently it's like sleeping with a hairy-arsed lorry driver. How attractive!

JetLi · 04/03/2009 22:04

Oh ilike - if they're your tickets you should go. They were soooooo fantastic - worth every penny. Best gig I've been to in years and Richard Hawley turned up for The Fix - just the best night in ages!! Been looking to see if we can toddle off to another gig on this tour but they're all a bit far away.

ilikeyoursleeves · 04/03/2009 22:08

They aren't mine sadly, doubt I could go given it's 40 miles away and I am PG and have a 16 month old DS tucked up in bed! They are a colleagues who has an extra 2 tickets going spare....

I've not been to a gig in ages can't even remember what the last one was!

Phoenix · 04/03/2009 22:11

At the baby enjoying the gig. I'm meant to be going to see Take That in June, i'll be 37wks pg but really want to still go. I'm leaving it till nearer the time to make a final decision.

for scan cheekycel

JetLi · 04/03/2009 22:13

Ah I see. Have to admit I'm trying to squeeze a few gigs in before baby comes since I figure this type of galavanting will be severely curtailed after July...

JetLi · 04/03/2009 22:29

Take That will be fab Phoenix - a pal went on the last tour and had a great night out!
Eviebear and Mij - am having similar gusset issues. I saw that AccessDiagnostics sell a special panty liner which can apparently detect amniotic leaks, but they're a bit pricey. I switched to coloured knicks and feel a bit better as I can see ore easily than with white or black knicks - sorry if thats TMI
Christiana - would you be able to tell me where the new 2nd hand baby shop is in sunny Edinburgh? We're up in Corstorphine visiting a pal for Easter so I'd like to squeeze in a visit

Phoenix · 04/03/2009 22:34

I went on the last tour too Jetli. Loved it

Forgot to say, i'm sleeping on my back too. I know we're not meant to but i sleep better. I slept on my back throughout my last pg too.

mickeylou · 05/03/2009 09:06

Morning - sure you will be fine at the concert Phoenix. i saw Keane, Coldplay and Destinys Child whilst pregnant with DS and was dragged to Old Trafford to watch England play Poland at about 39 weeks. DS jumped about like a proper little football fan!

I went to see Keane a couple of months ago -they are so brilliant live.

oh and we went to the Brit awards the other week. the seats were crap though and my back was killing me after the train trip to london.

i havent seen take that since i was about 14. just cant get used to them minus robbie. sad, i know!

got the old pram out yesterday. its a mamas and papas travel system and the carrycot etc looks brand new. its grey so would do for girl or boy. its making it very hard to justify getting that new quinny speedy i've got my heart set on. i keep telling myself that my mum really needs the mamas and papas at her house!

JetLi · 05/03/2009 09:30

Don't know if this is any good to anyone - looks like a buggy board/toddler seat combo? Must go and do some work

Belgrano · 05/03/2009 11:39

hi all
terrified - scan in about two hours! Anyone know if we are still meant to have a full bladder nowadays? I keep reading you dont have to but have thrown away the letter they sent with scan confirmation.
Thanks

JetLi · 05/03/2009 12:19

Hi Belgrano - they said to me they needed a full bladder for the placenta/cord check. Once they'd done that bit they let me go pee (thank goodness) otherwise I would have burst.
Hope all goes well! xx

mickeylou · 05/03/2009 13:33

Thinking of you Belgrano - hope all is well. xx

xxhunnyxx · 05/03/2009 13:57

Pheonix I'm supposed to be going to see Take That on 27th June so I'll be nearly 39 weeks pg, I'm a HUGE fan and I'm really hoping to still be able to go but we've got general admission tickets so we can sit on the bottom level of seats but my friend who I'm going with wants to stand at the front!! maybe I'm just being a bit hormonal and demanding but given my situation I think she should be willing to sit on the seats with me! Am I being unreasonable?
Obviously if baby has been born or I'm in labour then I wont be going so gotta wait till nearer the time to decide.

Anybody just feeling really hormonal, tearful and sensitive at the mo? I started crying yesterday when I was looking for a Mothers Day card, some of them are just so sentimental lol.. Also, think I'm maybe bein a bit over sensitive cos I felt like my friend was saying that my LO is going to struggle at school cos he's a July baby. I felt like she was calling my baby stupid!! I still am a bit hurt by it even though when I think about what she said she's prob got a point!

Patchybob · 05/03/2009 14:09

xxhunnyxx My ds is also a july baby and he is now in Year 3 at school. He is doing really well, not the top of the class by any means, but def not the bottom either. He loves it and is keen and positive about it all. The school have always been very aware that he is the youngest and have really helped him alot. Don't worry about that at all, it will be fine! Don't think that your friend was being insensitive, she probably just didn't think.....mind you, people have said the same to me again this time!

mickeylou · 05/03/2009 14:40

xxhunnyxx dont worry about school. when they start i'm sure the teacher makes allowances for the fact some are only just 4. it will all even out in the end! after all you could have a child born on 1st september who is thick as two short planks!your little july baby might be a little einstein!

my nephew is a july baby. hes in reception now and i think he sits on a table with other young ones and they get a bit more tlc from the teaching assistant which is lovely.

my birthday is the last week in august and i dont remember struggling at school. i think it was harder for my mum to send me tho - she always says she had to find me an age 2 pinafore!
xx

mickeylou · 05/03/2009 14:42

ps yes i think you friend is being a bit selfish there. of course you cant stand at the front at 39 weeks! although you will make the headlines if your waters break! x

Beccabump · 05/03/2009 15:18

Hello ladies

Completely worn out after catching up with 5 pages of posts!!!

We had our scan today at 21 weeks and am in total total shock as it's a BOY!!!!

I was so sure it was another girl and I couldn't believe it when we saw the little bits on the screen!

I was so overwhelmed that I burst into tears and the poor man doing the scan had to try and carry on with me hiccoughing away!

All the measurements were fine and everything looked good, placenta in the right place so still all set for the homebirth

Got to spend ages looking at all the angles and measurements being done and the sonographer was really lovely and told us what each bit was and whether it was ok.

So we would appear to be officially having an Isaac Charles

Hugs to all xxx

p.s. a few pages back someone mentioned the Mothercare Trenton Deluxe pushchair. I have this and adore it as it is the full travel system. The baby seat is lovely and comfortable, the baby has a little carrycot to lie flat in and then my 2 year old still has plenty of room in the pushchair part now. The only thing I will say is make sure you have a big boot if you are planning on travelling with it - we cheated once DD was 6 months and bought a small folding buggy to travel to relatives with as the Trenton is pretty large even once folded down. It does have lots of room underneath for shopping though!!!

mickeylou · 05/03/2009 15:32

congratulations on your little boy Beccabump !! bet you cant stop looking at picture today.

my scan is on tuesday but DH is adamant he doesnt want to know the sex. i dont think any amount of persuasion is going to change his mind either.

isaac is a lovely name. i only know one and he is gorgeous! x

Phoenix · 05/03/2009 15:50

Yay another Take That fan on the thread . We're going on the 28th June and have got seated tickets so should be ok. Your friend is been very selfish, i couldn't stand.

Congrats on your boy Becca. I like Isaac

Dh is doing my head in with names. I really love Noah now i've got it in my head and he's now saying he likes Rhys again more than Noah. I'll end up getting my own way though . What does Noah Rhys sound like?

BonzoDoodah · 05/03/2009 16:04

Yay to everyone at concerts... I was at the Kaiser Chiefs one on monday night- was brilliant. not sure the bump was too impressed. But then I was dancing salsa with DD until 8 1/2 months and she loves musc now.

xxhunny at friend expecting you to stand up all the way through a concert at 39 weeks!! Next time you see her get her to hold a large bag of spuds against her stomach with one hand and ask her if she could stand up for 2 hours holding that without putting it down.

congrats on scans everyone - happy times

woolyjo it's 6 months when they reccomend baby sleeps in their own room (not 6 weeks) but bit late now and no harm done. I wouldn't have slept at all if DD was in a different room and so small. plus it made the night feeds so much easier.

I'm not going to bother with a changing bag this time. I used the one my sister gave me last time until I realised I only needed a small bag with a couple of nappies, pack of wipes, a foldable changing mat (really small and thin) and a spare vest and babygro. All these fitted in any of the trendy bags I already had without getting on my nerves and looking like a frumpy thing.

mickeylou · 05/03/2009 16:35

Phoenix Noah Rhys is lovely combo. much prefer Noah to Rhys though. like you say i am sure you will get your way - if in doubt play the labour card!

i am torn between Harry or Toby? DH not keen on Harry but i think it goes really well with DS's name which is Billy. i like little old fella names! I would love Ruby for a girl but have a friend with a Ruby so dont want to copy. nothing else has really grabbed me yet though. Possibly Poppy. is it me or was choosing a name so much easier last time?

oh the mere mention of Kaiserchiefs brings back memories of labour with DS. DH had radio one on and they played I predict a riot so many times i now associate it with pain!! i also now hate chris moyles with an irrational passion!

BonzoDoodah · 05/03/2009 17:43

there's nothing irrational about hating Chris Moyles!
