Ugh, Jonah, what a pain. Our midwives don't listen for the heartbeat at this stage unless you request it, poss because it can be a little difficult to detect if bubs has got himself (or herself) into a particular position? Glad the prodding worked, though.

Lynny, I agree with KVG, you should have your very own Wonder Woman outfit. Can't believe the cheek of your ex-MIL, hope she is not going to be too overbearing with the new bean?

I'm spending the day waiting to hear about this job, I assume it will be today (a week having passed). Although perhaps now the rain has stopped I will start moving boxes out to the car for a long overdue trip to the tip. I think this is some kind of nesting instinct, major decluttering exercise. Unfortunately as dh is a complete hoarder he always gets very stressed when I start chucking stuff out, I had to agree to let him keep a bag of crystals his mum gave him even though we are also having to store some v expensive (but horrible) Swedish glassware he gave her and she gave him back saying she "didn't want to break it" (which I am sure is code for thinking it's horrible too).

Dunno what to do with the glass stuff, to be honest. I would eBay it except the thought of having to pack glass up for posting sounds too daunting.

Welcome to Monkeysmum and KateEgg.

Lua - lots of luck for the driving test!

teabelly · 13/04/2005 13:38

LOL KVG! of course you have to wear pj's for the ball thing to work, and I haven't done that since I was a kiddy - mind you the size I am now DH would probably be happier if I did Spa looks fab btw...although I'd be tempted to go for the frangipani wrap - sounds delicious !

Lua good luck for your test - fingers and toes crossed for you.

Trib - everything's crossed for you too, hope you hear sooner rather than later.

Jonah - what a bummer appointment, hope the next one's better

...now, had my lunch, just contemplating what choc to buy for pudding ...

ah KVG I can sympathise. Have had lots of comments about how big my bump is. I do remember from last time though, that most people have no idea how big you really do get pre-birth (maybe because getting out at that stage is sooo impossible!).

As a second timer, I was offered the explanation of my big bump as my stomach muscles having given up...grr.

Have decided to try and let it wash over me, though it doesn't always work. Why does everyone think that being pregnant mean they can pat the bump, comment on where you have fat deposits and tell you how ugly you look? ( I wish it stopped there but post birth there's a whole new bunch of helpful people out there who don't just stop at your body but start on the baby too)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr on your behalf KVG. I'm starting to find it amusing - shocking people by telling them I've still got 8/9 weeks to go when they make those 'oooh, you must be ready to pop' comments. Honestly, people can be so rude. I might start denying that I'm actually pregnant, just to see what they say.

More awake now - quick trip to the gym and a big sandwich and I feel like a new person!

Good luck Lua!!!!

Sorry you had such a crappy appointment JonahB. Bloody midwives seem to forget they are dealing with real people sometimes. How's things going on the iron tablets, any more strange symptoms? I'm only taking one a day, what about everyone else? If I start suffering I might try your suggestion Redheadmum. Hope things go ok with your DD on Monday - it's probably a bigger moment for you than for her!

Lynny, you DO deserve a wonderwoman award. Hope your day has improved since your early start.

Bubbaloo, I'm very that you finish work so soon! Wish I could too, but I need the money. I'm also suffering from frequent nightly loo visits and leg cramps. Oh the joys of it all! Must keep reminding myself how lucky I am to have reached this stage!

I've started to brazen it out and say 'yes my bump is much bigger this time around - must be a big baby' etc, though i would rather I could be more assertive and tell them where exactly to get off

but the feeling of my bump is what gets me the most - can't stand people touching me like that.

sorry but people do make the most awful comments on the baby. Things like getting the sex wrong, too big/too small, crying too much etc etc and of course lots of comments on how you're feeding the baby or generally looking after them. What annoyed me the most was when people would criticise me but talk to the baby eg

hello baby waby! is your mummy feeding you those horrible jars of food? ah poor you, i bet you'd like lovely fresh organic apples wouldn't you? much nicer and healthier, oh yes. (this actually happened - an in law grrrr)

Your ex sounds like a real charmer. Just can't imagine why he's your ex-H at all. You have reserves of patience and strength that put everyone else to shame Lynny.

redheadmum · 13/04/2005 15:10

lynny - just seen yr post. How awful to have to go all through that with social services. Blimey, we ALL need a break every now and then to make us sane and go back to parenting refreshed.

Mrs W - hello! yes the midwives do forget sometimes that they're dealing with people...at my booking appointment the midwife misheard my age and thought I was 45. She and the student midwife were discussing how brave they thought I was - in front of me. (and THEN they went onto my weight) I was outraged.

MrsWednesday · 13/04/2005 15:24

How rude RHM! My usual midwife was on holiday when I had my booking in appointment so they had a replacement. She asked me if it was my first pregnancy and I said 'no, it's my fourth' and she started going on saying 'oh wow, well you don't look like you've had three kids'. How can a midwife forget that people have miscarriages? Especially when they have doctors notes in front of them?

not sure who asked but i'm going to this spa spa if you scroll to page 15 there's the details of the pregnancy massage, if i get my way then i will also be having the post-natal one once if insh breast feeding. The spa is lovely i've been before and i paid for muy mum to have a treatment when she was up a fortnight ago.

Re bump comments i get the oposite really only 8 weeks to go! gosh its very small, is it growing properly!! bet you go over!! and recently some people even kindly have siad now bump is a bit more noticeable, gosh i didn't even realise you were pregnant!! what did you think i was just getting fat!!!

MrsW - re Iron i'm supposed to be taken 3 tablets every da but i've drop down to 2 and am finding this works well, no digestive issues and feeling not so tired so yeah!!

how often is everyone else seeing their midwifes? i've not got another appointment until 36 weeks now, in 4 weeks time but i can ring her in between if i have any worries. Will start going to the midwife drop in sessions on a tues lunchtime soon, these were rweally good, one session is on homeopathy and aromatherapy in labour.

KVG - I'm not sure why people comment on the bump at all. I am walking around pretending its not there... I find that people look at the bump with distain or feel the need to comment about something, usually ludicrous.

Lynny - Depression is so draining isn't it. If we were given the chance to boost our emotional batteries for a bit then things wouldn't seem so bleak for so long. I am sorry it had to go on so long that you had to go through social services (after getting the run around) and nobody would lend you a hand. people seem to just think mothers can just go on and on with no regard they are actually in need of a bit of care too.

My washing machine is humming away next door Good Job I bought it as the estate agents phoned again and left a message groaning and saying Oh you are only supposed to be looking at 'quotes' and that the authorisation they gave my dad wasn't really a definate agreed, apparently it'll be at least 3 weeks until they can start painting. Not sure if it is worth them starting when I have my exams. We have complained and complained and complained. They are the crappiest agents I have had so far. Apart from the last place where the heating didn't work I am glad I moved out in december or I would have frozen since completely.

Right I'm going to wash my clothes

Lua · 13/04/2005 16:13

feel like the little girl that cried wolf
I meant to say my Theory test!!! I wish it was my practical since I pass with flying colors! But thanks for all your fingers crossed. I am sure that's why I passed! In my way there, I was thinking, humm.. which cars actiualy have blue flashing lights? I still have no idea, but somehow passed!

Anyhoo, Lynny. Yes I did the test you mentioned. It aslo known as glucose tolerance test or GTT. The reason why you can't take the drink home is because they take your blood before you drink it and 2 hours after. I hope they mentioned to you too that youneed to be fasting . They told me to have a last snack at 11PM.

It turned out that I do have gestationl diabetes myself. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you are OK!!! Sorry you have been having so many things to deal with recently!

Lua · 13/04/2005 16:15

Pink - very happy about your washing machine. It must be such a relief!

PinkArjuna · 13/04/2005 16:18

lippy - I have put a bid on a size 18 body suit on ebay. I figure I can get the bump into that, I'll still look awful but maybe I'll go swimming after all. they don't do skinsuits for maternity as it kind of defeats the object of olympic record breaking I might bid on a smaller one for after I have Bubba too because I'll have to teach him how to swim at some point...

PinkArjuna · 13/04/2005 16:19

thanks Lua its all white and sophisticated looking. And it washes and dries
