Sorry for gatecrashing your thread.

But would like to say Thank you to Lua for your kind words on the Due in Dec thread. I had a funny feeling I was OK too, but didn't want to get my hopes up.

Lua · 23/04/2005 18:07

Hello everybody!

Comgratulations to Mr. Katz! I'm sure the whole family will be happier with the new job!

Hope everyone was as lucky as we were today with the weather! We had a lovely time in the yeard and outside in general!

I've been away because I have been in a rotten mood.... I was put in insulin at least once a day !!! On the bright side, I guess that mean I can mow eat more stuff for dinner now!!!

Lynny glad to hear thet you are OK despite hospital stay.

charleypops · 23/04/2005 19:44

Hello everyone!

Lua - I'm sorry you're having to do the insulin . You should be a lot more stable though and, as you say, be a bit less careful about what you're eating . Not long anyway now.....

Berolina - My lungs often feel "weird" - it's definitely baby related, and I don't have asthma, so hopefully your's is the same thing and you won't get a cold. We'll be moving too! Maybe Christmas time, but more likely to be like you, round next Spring.

Bubbs - it sounds like you might benefit from going to some of these groups. What do you think of your antenatal group? You don't have to pile in being all chatty and in everyone's face to begin with if you don't feel like it - wait a couple of weeks or so if that would be easier. You sound lovely on here and I'm sure there will be people out there who would love to know someone like you.

Katz - Oh Congratulations to your dh!! Blimey - everyone's doing very well at getting their jobs here aren't they? T

hanks for that link to the nursing chair - it looks like really good value - I've been looking at ones that recline on ebay, they're about £170ish though - do you think a recline is really nice to have?

Sorry you're down Pink - come back soon when you're ready!

Lynny - glad you're ok, and I'm so pleased your gtt was ok. Pink wears a brace like you and I think there's at least one other Junie does too.

Uwila - I haven't got anything really for my hospital bag either yet - but you'd better hurry madam! Good luck with your nanny hunt! My neighbour's been having a nightmare with her brand new male nanny. Oh btw, another neighbour of mine told me yesterday she had a wonderful experience at Queen Charlotte's when she had her second baby and couldn't praise them highly enough

I'm sure I was supposed to have a blood test yesterday at my 32 week (should have been 31 week) mw appt? I wonder if she forgot though?

mcmudda · 23/04/2005 23:46

Man you lot can talk!!

Hello everyone and belated congratulations to Sweetheart - such fab news

Nursery is nearly finished - dh and my dad were painting all day today while my mum was a whirlwind around the house. Ds just played in the sun all day and I was handed copious cups of tea and biscuits. I felt like I was on holiday.

The moses basket is cleaned up with new mattress and bedding, all set up at the foot of our bed waiting for baby - it's all so real now!

I ordered my TENS machine online the other night. Now I just need to clean the mould off the pram

Ds was 2 weeks early so I'm still wondering whether this one will be too.

This week the midwife said I was measuring big for dates - she took one look at me and said "Gosh you're really big!" then when she palpated me she said "and it's all baby!!" - she seemed really shocked! Then she said "I don't think you should go full term." I'm not sure whether she was subtly suggesting induction - I really don't fancy that much.

But ds was only 8lbs8 at 38 weeks - she seemed to be saying that this one was much bigger - I really thought I looked smaller this time round - maybe I'm just not as lardy - more baby less blubber? We shall see....

Hi everyone

Just a quick pop in, before I get back to the grind

A day of re-painting dd's furniture for me. The worst kind of painting, oil-based paint for wood which just stinks and is such a pain to clean Still, I used water-based paint for wood on her old chest of drawers and it was useless!!!

All the painting punctuated by about 4 loads of washing and ironing which has appeared from somewhere.

We've also moved dd out of her room as everything needed to be bagged up ready for the new ceiling in there next week ~fingers crossed~ So, we're all bunking down together in the basement ~frazzled emoticon~ Yes, it's as 'cosy' as it sounds!

Hello McMudda, bleeeurgh to induction, hope you come on naturally. Ummm "only 8lbs 8oz at 38 weeks" Only?? Isn't that big enough ?? Dd was 7lb6oz at almost 42 weeks

I hope you all had good weekends and did plenty of nesting, someone do some for me please

bubbaloo · 24/04/2005 10:52

hi everyone,
havent been able to access mumsnet for a couple of days.thought there may have been a tech prob but seems to be ok now
pink-sorry to hear your so down at the mo.must be really tough for you.hope you come back and join us when your feeling a bit better
mrs f-sorry to hear of your backache.my backache seems to have gone & ive now got lower bump ache in its place
katz-im really pleased mr katz got the job.being happy in a job i think is far more important than the money anyway unless its a lot less than your use to,so good for him!!
lua-sorry to hear of the insulin.cant be much fun but hopefully it'll only be for the remainder of the pregnancy.
charley-thanks for your kind words.i didnt actually join an antenatal group in the end as its a bus ride away and in the afternoon and didnt fancy going on my own,but im sure that once the baby arrives & i start going out more i'll meet other mums.after all i cant be that shy-i do have bright pink hair-LOL!!!!
i also thought the nursing chair was rather nice & very reasonable but im really pushed for space in the nursery so i'll have to go without.
lynny-i saw that programme too & thought exactly the same.infact i didnt even know who hazel o'connor was
have now finished work till dec.they made such a fuss of me i was really embarassed! they covered my desk in balloons, got me a few more cute outfits & gave me £150 to buy whatever other things i need.they also signed 7 diff cards with lots of funny comments so a good day was had.and...i finally got a seat on the tube-on my last day.better late than never
dh has next week off so i shall be going shopping to get the last few things for my hospital bag & packing it-cant quite believe we've only a few more weeks left-how scary is that?!!!
anyway...sorry for the long post, hope everyone has a great day, enjoying the sunshine.we're assembling wardrobes
xx

tribpot · 24/04/2005 18:59

Evening all!

Hope everyone's doing okay, am still v jealous of everyone who's actually doing their parenting classes when we still have a month to wait. Ho hum. Depending on how things work out with the job, I may be up in Leeds for a week or so. I have absolutely no idea why but they seem to think it's a good idea if I start soon (my Dutch friend was appalled as they are strongly discouraged from working in the last 6 weeks in Holland) but I doubt they will get their act together before the parent classes mean we have to be here every Thursday.

Nursing chairs - I have heard they are a waste of time. Not sure why, maybe because it's just easier to breastfeed in front of the telly? We have some 'Joey & Chandler' chairs anyway so they will have to double as nursing chairs (and are handily in front of the telly).

We went to buy our travel system (finally!) on Thursday, a great shop in Bedford - not exactly on the doorstep but we went to visit friends as well. We've gone for the Jané Carrera, with Matrix car seat of course. The three wheeler chassis was just too large for our boot - it would go in but nothing else would. Hilariously the saleswoman tried to interest me in a Bugaboo Frog. I was very tempted to say "I drive a Skoda, is it likely I'm going to shell out for the most expensive travel system money can buy?". She did tell me it was positively the best for off-roading, but as I have no intention of going hiking in the Andes any time soon I figured I'd be okay.

Hurrah for Mr Katz's new job, happiness is definitely more important that dosh in my view.

Lua - sorry to hear about the insulin. Does this mean you can eat chocolate though?!

Pink - hope you're feeling better soon.

Oh, my Mum and I were talking about post-natal groups yesterday. (You can call them 'mother and baby' if you like but I shall be making dh come with me as he's the SAHD!). She said that she didn't think she'd like them either but after a few weeks deprived of adult conversation they are a godsend. I don't know if we'll do much locally as we won't be here that long, we're probably more likely to go visiting family given dbump will have 10 cousins all keen as mustard to play with him/her.

Btw, in Sweden at the mo they are debating whether to pass a law giving every woman the final month of pregnancy off work on full pay. This is because some people were using up part of their 18-month maternity leave whereas others were getting signed-off sick so that they didn't have to waste any of their own time! Hey ho, it's a different world, isn't it? One being funded by my taxes as well, I might add. Bit late to go back to take advantage of the perks now though.

uwila · 25/04/2005 08:51

Blimey, 18 months of maternity leave? Is that paid in full? Don't you have to pay massive taxes in sweden in order to fund this?

I always hear people comparing UK benefits to those in Sweden, but I have yet to understand how they fund such a system.

Hope everyone is well today. I'm tired and my back hurts, but what else is new. I have officially made it 35 weeks now. It's very reassuring because that is the point at which I thin well if baby was born now, he'd be okay.

welshmum · 25/04/2005 09:36

Morning all,
Doesn't late pregnancy make you feel just gorgeous , heady with feminine appeal, glamourous, sexy and oozing with confidence. Honestly just packing yourself into the tube of a morning makes you feel just fabulous
NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT

Have hit a bit of a low point.
Unexplained rash on my face, too many people commenting on my size, can't seem to get anything done etc etc

Uwila - that seems quite late to see the consultant. Sure you know this but just in case - elective c-sections usually happen between week 38 and 39 - typically 38+4 or 5
I see my consultant this Thursday - will hopefully but a date in my head and a bit of oomph in my body for the last lap.

tribpot · 25/04/2005 09:47

Uwila - yes, I think it is on full pay. But yes, they pay some of the highest taxes in the world (and have a very small population). The dad has to take one month of it, the mum one month and the rest can be shared as you like.

Welshie - I don't know how you are even still managing the Tube, you deserve a medal!

Is it normal to see a consultant at some point? (Obviously it is in preparation for a c-section, but I mean just normally).

Oh, my other daft question. Washing of baby clothes and stuff - I have some second-hand gear so want to give it a wash before bubs arrives, can you use normal washing powder or does it have to be non-bio?

Lua · 25/04/2005 09:48

Morning all!

Another gorgeous day in usually grey Manchester, and the builders think they will be done with our bedroom today!! yipeee {grin}! Now if I can only find the energy to re-paint the walls and put the furniture back, I might get a good night of sleep in two days....

Lynny, your breakfast sounded fantastic. How much do you charge for lending your DH?

Trib, I was in Hebden bridge this weekend for a toddlers birthday party. Keep wondering if any of the people I met was your sister.... But nobody seemed to know how tribpot was....

I have been freaking out that baby might be here is as little as 3 weeks! (i.e. at 38 weeks) However, I am so massive and so sick of the diabetes problem that sometimes, I don't think three weeks is short enough!

Last night I could feel the ball of his foot kick the wire in my bras! How can that be??? I didn't think my uterous coul come up this far up?! I'm not exagerating.... I could literally touch his foot under my boobs!!1 I still haven't managed to gain a pound since a month ago, but I am definetely massive! If this is all baby I'm in trouble!!! I am truly impressed that your are so relaxed McMudda!

tribpot · 25/04/2005 09:57

Lua - hee hee. It's my cousins in Hebden but their kids are all older than toddler stage now, I think the youngest is about 5. I'm sure I shall be commanded over to visit at some point once we're up in Leeds though, dh will be delighted to meet even more members of my family whose names he will have to recall.

My baby was kicking underneath my boobs this morning as well, if the uterus is really taking up that much space, where the hell are all my internal organs?! I can see why I am having to pee all the time, anyway.

Lua · 25/04/2005 10:05

TRib, I only wash baby clothes in non-bio, non-perfume, non-anything soap (which means surecare at the moment).....
I know it doesn't matter for a lot of kids, but eczema runs in the family, so I rather reduce the number of possible sources of trouble....

Morning everyone, lots to catch up with as usual.

Great news on your DH's new job Katz. Money isn't anywhere near as important as family happiness is it?

Pink, you sound so low and I have no idea what to say to help. But you don't have to hide away from us if you aren't feeling good - we are all here to listen.

Glad you and your DD are recovered Lynny, and that she had a lovely day out with her young fancy man .

With you on the late pregnancy loveliness Welshie. Have got a very attractive scabby lip, like a cross between a cold sore and blisters so I'm feeling particularly stunning. Spent unpleasant minutes trying to fill a pee pot with wee for my midwife visit this afternoon - am I the only one who ends up making a such a mess? Sorry!

On the washing powder question - I just started using Fairy non-bio when DS was born and will stick with that. Seems to have been ok with him.

tribpot · 25/04/2005 11:01

Mrs W, I have had to adopt a new 'pee pot' strategy now, after turning up at the midwife with literally 1 ml of pee last time. (She said it was okay but I do feel a larger sample would be better).

I now pee into a larger container and then pour it into the little pee pot. This is much easier to manage and requires less co-ordination. Due to having to pee every 10 mins, it means there may not be a great deal to catch - by the time I'd got the small pee pot into approx the right position I'd finished. Harumph. Hope this helps!

Ah, that is very useful Trib. Thank you. I will do the same in future - will also be turning up with 1ml this afternoon!

I'm so pleased I have somewhere to come and talk about things like this.

bubbaloo · 25/04/2005 11:27

morning all,
just thought i'd say hello seeing as im not normally around during the day.felt wonderful not having to get up for work this morning but i have been up fairly early as the cot and changing unit are being delivered today.only problem is it could be anytime before 6pm so it looks like i'll have to wait in all day-never mind

katzguk · 25/04/2005 11:37

morning all

5 days to go!! yeah!! finish next friday so only today, wednesday, friday then wednesday, friday next week to go. Yeah!!

Phoned midwfie this morning, the breech thing is streesing me out a bit, i need to know if the baby had turned yet and i can't wait another 2 weeks to find out!! but got other midwife because mine was delivering a baby! but rather lucky though because this midwife is the one into aromatherapy, reflexology ect and i asked her when she was running her next session on aromatherapy and she said haven't got one planned but when would eb convenient for you, so two weeks today, she's running a class!! yeah!! can get me a blend for labour, had one for DD and it was lovely, DH gave me a really lovely foot massage. The blend was designed to increase contraction size but help to release endorphines so qhould have made labour quicker and less painful, smelt nice too!!

thanks for all the congrats for DH he is sooo pleases, i don't think he's stopped smiling yet! its going to make such a huge difference, his commute should now be about 15 mins instaed of 45mins, he'll be able to take DD to nursery whilst i'm on mat leave so will make life a little easier for me, plus he's dropping one day a week of work so we will need less nursery care now so the little one will only be in nursery for two mornings a week. which will save us money. plus means i can breast feed for longer, will express and leave it for DH to give, whereas nursery can't give expressed milk i think, i would have to go and feed the baby.

500 posts again - must be time for a new thread again!! how many do you think we will get through before the first baby appears?

OP posts:
teabelly · 25/04/2005 11:41

Morning all,

Loads to catch up on as per usual

Katz great news for hubby - my dh has been a changed man since he gave up his London job and started working locally, so it may be less money but it really is great for them

Pink - so so sorry you're feeling so down. Have nothing practical that I can add, Lynny's post said everything anyone could, and much better than I could have...don't avoid us, we luv ya just come and moan away!

Bubb - re your breast pad question, I bottle fed ds last time, but you will still leak milk abit (or quite alot in my case!) so it would be wise to buy some disposables to have just in case...I think I leaked for about 3 weeks afterwards, not too much after the first week, but enough that I would have embarrased myself if I hadn't had any pads in

Lippy - no cleaners here either, although I do have a fab ironing lady who I just couldn't give up, ever...absolutely hate ironing, and would happily clean 1000 toilets in return for someone doing the ironing ...and re the, ahem, leakage/discharge problem - another one here with far too much of the stuff

Lua - bummer about the insulin, was really hoping for you that it wouldn't be necessary.

Trib, re the washing powder thing, like Lua ezcema runs in dh's family too, so I did pre-wash all of ds's stuff (and this bubs things too) in a non-bio, but not sure I would have bothered if not for the ezcema link. But if you are going to pre-wash then as Uwila says only do alittle incase bubs is large and you need to exchange items.

Lynny - glad you and dd are ok again, bless her for her 'boyfriend'. DS will be sad today, bless, it's his last day at nursery and he's in love with one of the helpers there...not sure how he will cope not seeing her again, but can't afford to send him whilst on leave, ahhhhh.

Re the nursing chair...I didn't get one last time, not enough room, but I did find an essential was a footstool at feeding times, esp in the early days when he would take 45 mins to only have 1 1/2 oz!! Not sure on the physiology but it relieved the pressure on the small of the back and arms...

On serious count down now...33 days to ETA - suppose I really ought to pack my hospital bags, as I'm having loads of twinges and movements at the mo!!
