We told dd's aged 4 and 3 at the time ages ago. We told the 14 mnth old but he just said somthing on the lines of babble babble ching which was probably to be expected as he was playing with a xylaphone at the time!!!
Every night they want me to read "theres a house in mummys tummy" by giles andre (sp?) If you haven't read it its really good for explaining things in kiddy terms - I love the bit about the tummy telephone and the hospitals tv. The bit about his door being a bit tight was a bit when my dp said "your hopeful"!!! cheeky bugger!!!

Speaking of which sarah76 You can self refer yourself to physio after the baby is born to sort out any pregnancy related problems including those of the "knee's together when you sneeze kind"!! I'm not sure about during. It sounds like you probably overstrained something when you were ill and now being preggers is making it worse. Speak 2 yr gp or ring the physio dept at your local hospital and see if you can self refer.

rbdazzler - so glad you are feeling a bit happier! I actually got 6 hrs solid sleep last night and when I woke up i literally didn't know what to do with myself. Been dozy all day!

Every time my kids seem to be doing something out of their routine / to drive me nuts I try to make myself remember that with kids under 10 everything will be different after 2 weeks, but when i'm in the middle of it its not that easy!! If you know what I mean???

Heinz Haven't heard from you l8ly - unless I just skim read too fast Hope u r ok - has yr dh found more work yet??? Thinking of you.

Hope everyone else is ok and or feeling better!

sarah76 · 02/03/2009 09:45

Well I'm not at work. I did try--I got up, showered, got dressed, then went downstairs to get breakfast. As soon as I walked into the kitchen I barfed in my mouth (eewwwww) and had to finish in the kitchen bin (it's my downstairs barfatorium of choice). Decided the kitchen was off limits, went upstairs, yakked in the toilet, then in the sink while trying to clean out my mouth, then back to the toilet.

Called GP and got an appt for this morning, as I need another sick note if I'm not going in. Called boss and said I wasn't coming. Feel pathetic. I know I'm supposed to just soldier on because I'm 'pregnant, not ill', but I feel so wiped out and exhausted after every puking session. I could easily sleep for a week now.

Hawkmoth · 02/03/2009 11:28

Aww Sarah That sounds horrid.

I AM going back to work on Friday. I've decided that if I can slob around and type here, I can do the same at work, even if it's not for long periods of time. I know they'll look after me though, which is very reassuring. Plus, I can always ring my mum and ask her to bring me home.

Good job really, as I've had the office manager and my boss on the phone today asking me to do stuff!

Going out to lunch with my mum today, will be nice to feel kind of normal!

nuttygirl · 02/03/2009 12:02

Feeling a bit better today and planning on a small tea to try and avoid a repeat of Sat or Sun. Mw phoned me to see how I am and she thinks it's just a bug. I seem to get everything that's going.

Sarah - sorry you're feeling so sick. Don't feel bad about taking the time off - you're sick, even if you are pregnant iyswim.

I'm looking at birth pools. Have decided to buy an inflatable one (there's only one hard sided pool that will fit in our room ok and the rental agreement isn't great on it so it works out v pricey). So now just have to choose between La Bassine or Birth Pool In a Box Eco Mini. The La Bassine works out slightly cheaper and has slightly more internal space but I keep being drawn to the eco mini because it has a heat retaining cover .

Those of you with more than one already - were your labours similar? I keep thinking that if my waters break first again I could fill the pool then and use the cover to keep the temp ok until labour starts.

nuttygirl · 02/03/2009 12:02

Hawkmoth - have a nice lunch

ScummyMummy · 02/03/2009 14:44

"I keep thinking that if my waters break first again I could fill the pool then and use the cover to keep the temp ok until labour starts."

You're going to fill your birth pool with amniotic fluid, nuts?!

sarah76 · 02/03/2009 15:18

Scummy, I read it the same way! And as a first-timer started to marvel, didn't think a baby bump could hold enough to fill a pool. Then thought about it a bit more and felt a bit stoooopid. This seems to be happening to me more and more. I'm sure I've lost several IQ points already.

Hawkmoth · 02/03/2009 16:13

Thanks nuttygirl! Was a delicious Italian club sandwich (pastrami not bacon) and some ice cream of high quality.

Went to supermarket afterwards and now thoroughly buggered. It's NOT on, so I'm ordering myself a maternity support/corset and it's GOING TO HELP!

Plans for work gone a bit wrong - my doctor's note is for two weeks rather than one! Never mind eh?

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 02/03/2009 17:32

Nutty - my 2 labours were different. DS1 waters broke but the contractions never really got going enough and I ended being induced, epidural (as after induction you have to stay linked to a monitor and I couldn't move around enough to manage the pain myself) followed by forceps delivery - very high delivery but I had an excellent consultant who was prepared to do it rather than the Em CS the junior wanted to do. Poor DS1 was not ready to come out!

DS2 went into labour sponteously and ended up having my waters broken as he was so low on my not yet fully dilated cervix. Cue horrendous agnony but he was born 2 hours later, on the floor next to the pool!

Sorry if TMI for first timers. Also at the thought of filling a birth pool with your own "waters"!!

TaleofTwoCities · 02/03/2009 19:28

Hi - my 2 labours were different too. First time around at 41 weeks was induced due to not enough amniotic fluid round the baby. Followed by waters breaking 12 hours after induction, epidural due to not being able to move around much (constant monitoring like 2HotCross), lack of progression during the pushing stage and then ventouse delivery...

2nd time spontaneous labour at term +9. Waters broke and baby born within a couple of hours with gas+air.

BabyBump2B · 02/03/2009 19:28

Hi All!

Sorry to hear some of you are still poorly. My MS disapeared about 15 weeks if that helps? I'm still suffering from very low energy - specifically on the weekends. I'm turning into such a lazy sod! DH has been amazing which probably makes it worse because I don't have to tidy up but he's heading over to visit his parents on your side of the pond for 2 weeks as of Thursday so I'll have to start taking better care of the place!

LMAO at filling the birth pool with your amniotic fluid - Sarah I thought exactly the same as you!

So who's next at finding out what they're having?

And when will it be spring? I could def use some sunshine!

OonaghBhuna · 02/03/2009 22:08

I am really low on energy too. My BP is low though last week it was 90/50 which is low for me. I also had dizzy spells at the weekend.A symtom of low BP, MW said its nothing to worry about but advised me not to stand for too long etc.

Looking forward to warmer days.

kitkatqueen · 02/03/2009 23:50

Hiya all all three of my labours were different.

No1 waters broke nothing happened got induced ended up flat on back with epidural etc - usual story... 7 lb14 oz

No2 waters burst ( with a bang) during pushing phase and I soaked the horrible midwife oooh she really was soooo horrible! vertical delivery no pain relief. 6lb15oz

No 3 I had got to a certain point and things slowed up a bit so accepted their offer and had waters broken. 9lber, again vertical delivery no pain relief. Lovelyist midwife ever!!

Hoping for a repeat of 2 / 3 with same lovely midwife. Would have loveda waterbrth but grp b strep + so not allowed

motherof2boys · 03/03/2009 08:29

Had my DS1 athome (ambulance 4 minutes before he was out) at 39 weeks

DS2 planned home birth but midwife didn't make it (it was very quick)again 39.5 weeks -luckily SAturday eve so DH able to deliver!

horrid stitches each time due to birth violence. Ended up with a blue light run to hospital each time as 'unsupervised birth'

what would you ladies do for #3 - due mid school hols (DS1 7years - DS2 5years)?seeig obstetrician at 'problem births clinic' for 16 week apt on Thurs.
Not up for CS unless absolutely nec. Cld get induced as wld give certainty but otoh doesn't seem to be my style. My mammy has died - she would have just moved in for a bit. Could poss afford some sort of childcare help for aug in case of emergency - have fear of being alone in daytime with 2 little boys. But many friends counselling against hospital intervention.

long post!any similar experience? all that matters in end is healthy baby oof course....

LittleFairySmile · 03/03/2009 08:33

LOL at babies called Tractor and Guinea-Pig.

Sorry people still feeling sick. Take care all.

Seeing mw on Thur, so can't wait to hear baby's heartbeat again!

Friend has just texted me she's having her baby tomorrow 8 weeks early. She's currently in hospital! Don't know any more. Really worried for her!

Uki · 03/03/2009 10:25

Hi again

thanks for all the congrat's, feel like i told my news and ran, well i kind of did as we were away for the weekend.

I'm starting to tell a few people the news, and they are like 'oh thought you'd find out but not tell us, maybe they all wanted a surprise

littlefairy- best wishes for your friend, hopefully she will be ok and have a strong healthy little baby, keep us informed.

Oongghbhuna- i'm in Australia so maybe a little too expensive to send, but could be nice to have something from the other side of the world for our little ones, also opposite seasons, but i'll see if i've gotta couple of little summer things for you if you like. very exciting to have the opposite.

taleoftwo cities- i agree most girl clothes are all the same pink, i often look at my girlfriend with 2 girls clothes line in horror it's completly pink, I love purple and also mixtures of colours, especially bright ones, so hope this season may have something interesting. i'm convinced blue/pink clothing is a marketing ploy so you have to buy more, I'm sure there could be some more unisex coloured clothing out there.

rightbobbydazler- hope your feeling better motherhood is no fun when your sick, tired and pregnant

nuttygirl · 03/03/2009 10:50

Motherof2boys - You obviously have even quicker labours than me! If I was you I think I'd plan for a homebirth again but I guess it depends on the damage from previous births too. What about seeing if a local doula could help? I know I've been told that if there's ANY sign something might be happening I should call the mw - could be as simple as back pain (no idea how I'm gonna distinguish that from general pregnancy aches and pains ). I don't think I'd opt for induction, although you'd have the benefit of having mws on hand, the drugs generally speed up a labour so I'd be a bit worried about that if you already labour very quickly and inductions generally lead to a higher rate of intervention - it would essentially be putting yourself into labour before your body is ready iykwim.

nuttygirl · 03/03/2009 10:52

Oh meant to add is there any chance you could be admitted to hospital at say 39 weeks and be allowed to just stay until you go into labour? i.e. not be induced but still be in the hospital so mws are nearby.

sarah76 · 03/03/2009 11:50

Morning all! Am exactly 15 weeks today, celebrated with more barfing in the kitchen bin. I swear it is getting worse rather than better.

Hawkmoth · 03/03/2009 11:56

WOOOOOO!!!

Got a physio appointment tomorrow afternoon - they've just telephoned.

Hawkmoth · 03/03/2009 12:22

... and Sarah... I've celebrated by barfing in the drainer!

HeinzSight · 03/03/2009 12:34

That's great news Hawkmoth.

Kitkat, that's really sweet of you to think of me, I often dip into thsi thread, it moves SO fast!!

All my labours were completely different too, well No.3 was a section, so I guess I should be saying my 2 labours were very different.

Motherof2boys, that's a pretty scary prospect delivering so quickly. Your DH sounds amazing to have delivered your baby. Is he medically trained?

sarah, sorry you're still puking, not nice

Sorry for my absence, it's been a pretty stressful few days, I seem to have got myself caught up in a break up between two friends and I'm being given a hard time by one of them, who I am just having to completely ignore now for my own peace! Horrid. It's a long story, I don't want to bore you all with it.

DH is now into his 5th week of redundancy and it's not looking good out there , we're not panicking yet!!! eek!

I had an awful runny tummy this morning, I suffer with IBS and I think possibly all the stress of the past few days has affected me!

OP posts:
cairns · 03/03/2009 13:51

Heinzsight - hope things go a little better for your DH soon. Can sympathise as my brother is still struggling finding something. Understand re the two friends break -up too, same thing happened to two close friends of ours, unfortunately it got quite bitter/jealous whenever we saw the 'other one' and after a while we ended up never seeing one of them again, really sad.

Hawkmoth - fantastic news re the Physio

Motheroftwoboys - I assumed in my antenatal class last time that those kind of rapid births don;t happen...... wow and well done DH delivering I think mine would panic

My 1st labour was a really long latent phase, contractions every 8-10 mins for 60 hours, but I was dilating slowly. When I eventually pursuaded the hospital to see me, I was already 7 cm, but waters hadn;t broken so they popped them and DS was born naturally 2 hours later (a hefty 9lbs 8). I must admit I am quite worried this time, but of different things.

My main worry at the moment is childcare as we don;t have any family locally, my local mum friends all have/will have a toddler and a young baby to look after (so don;t feel I can ask them) and DH works well over 1.5hrs commute, so I guess I am already starting to worry about what might happen, as midwifes have told me I could be quick based on what happened after my waters broke last time. Would be interesting to hear from those experienced how you managed the whole childcare issue.

2nd worry is another large baby (so I am trying to stay off the sweet things!)

nuttygirl · 03/03/2009 14:05

Cairns - not experienced but we have a similar problem with childcare. The IM did say that as they know we have a child and no family nearby that she will work it so that two of them come out (she normally does the birth bit on her own) so the second one can look after dd if necessary so that put my mind at rest. However before that the plan was that if needs be dh would have to look after dd (we did have a friend with 3 dc offer to help out at any time of day or night but tbh I could have given birth in the time it would take dh to drive there and back )
