OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
littleboyblue · 08/02/2009 10:28

Boffin yeah, prob rght about that last bit. I've never added powder before needed coz of bacteria growth, but you relax as they get older and it's strange thinking for a newbie! Will take boiling water and add powder when need, yep.

MrsY All ok? How you feeling?

MrsY · 08/02/2009 10:30

Hi all!

Congrats McDreamy - love the name, it's on our list!

thom - I've had numbness, with no swelling, and was told it's carpal tunnel. Only usually lasts till about 9.30am...

dinky sorry to hear you've got the snotmonster's cold. Not the nicest way to spend the last few days of being heavily pregnant. When's the nanny back?

No news here I'm still getting the contractions, but they have slowed right down and aren't nearly as strong as before. I am mainlining co-codamol as per midwife's instructions (was either that or having pethidine and being admitted). We're out for John's mum's birthday today, so should have a nice day, and then I'm hoping they'll have good news when I go into the DAU tomorrow.

littleboyblue · 08/02/2009 10:33

Have a good day then MY, but just try to sit down and relkax as much as poss. I am fing wrecked from no sleep in days before arrival and days/nights since. I have been silly and cleaning when I should just sit, so just take it easy

PinkTulips · 08/02/2009 11:10

awwwww, dinky, sorry you've been infected by the snotmonster. hopefully it's short lived, the last thing you need is a cold when you're about to give birth. lots of steamy baths and showers and hot lemon and honey.

THOM.... i always use the clary sage in the shower as it evaporates up in the steam so i'm inhaling it and rubbing it on pressure points as well. i rubbed a load on my bump last night too for good measure!

spent most of the evening having contractions which of course disappeared at some point during the night. dp is starting to get really worried as he's afraid if this goes on much longer i'll be too exhausted for birth and a newborn so now my one ally in not wanting to be induced is telling me it might be best to go for it baby better appear today or i'm seriously in danger of losing the plot!

tonnes of snow here again today, tramped about with the kids and cats for a bit and have collapsed with hot chocolate all round now

mrsy..... tonnes of labour vibes sweetie..... i had the exact same nonsense before dd and lbb is right, you really need to take it easy and rest and sleep as much as humanly possible. i hadn't slept for days before having dd and she didn't sleep at all when she was born and sad to say, all i really remember about the first weeks with her is being so exhausted i could barely function as a result.

herbgarden · 08/02/2009 11:50

Morning all
Congrats McDreamy - hurray another girl ! I don't think you knew what you were having did you?

LBB on the bottle sterilising front - I sterilise 4 bottles in the microwave steriliser . I boil fresh water. When bottles are sterilised, add the boiled fresh water. Leave the bottles to cool down on the kitchen side with lids on. I measure out the powder in my powder dispenser. When I need a bottle I just put the powder in the room temp cooled water.

I did this last time with DS - except I would then warm the bottle in the microwave once powder added - shake and leave to make sure no hot spots. This time I've started DD off with room temp water which really helps the middle of the night feeds too.

I don't believe that the room temp water can go off and in fact the midwife suggested that I did it this way and didn't put it in the fridge so that it was at room temp and didn't need to be warmed once powder added if lo can bear it that way.

For my night feeds, I just take up my bottles sterilised with the boiled water in and the powder dispenser and add, shake and serve !!

I confess I gave the "care assistant" in the hospital a slightly narrow birth when she started to spout on about government guidelines re bottle preparation now. I did the above for DS for a year and he was fine and basically told her that she could tell me what she liked but I'd still do it my way (as long as I deem my way to be "safe"). I also pointed out that they change the "guidelines" every week so eventually they might do it my way anyway

So, all contrary to guidelines but.....also I know that some of my friends have never sterilised anything. The dishwasher apparently is a good alternative but I don't run my dishwasher that frequently and all the plastic stuff tips upside down ending up with mucky dishwasher water in it, so it's a bit self-defeating.

Washing machine packed up last night !....I have a mountain of sicky muslins, pooey babygroes and other stuff piling up. Luckily we have a geeky guy locally who fixes washing machines and dishwashers and he's coming today ! Hurray.

Had an argument with DH this morning. In 2 weeks he's done every late feed ie 10//11pm and i do the 2 in the night (she takes 2 feeds between that time and 7am) - I'm not a great sleeper so after the 1ish feed I struggle to get back to sleep only to be woken again so I am feeling it a bit. I've taken DS out a couple of mornings on the bus to get him out of DH's hair and given Dh a lie in . He has been really good but he said this morning "oh wouldn't it be lovely to go to the driving range today" and I said " yeah, I'd love to go shopping for 3 hours alone"....and he said he hadn't done "much" this week ie he'd had no time alone. Mmmm that got me riled, I pointed out he was on "Paternity Leave" not a 2 week holiday, that we have 2kids to look after, I've had what he keeps calling "a major operation" so these 2 weeks aren't about him......

He went quite quiet and went off to do a jigsaw with DS. I'm a cow sometimes but really.....

Hope the rest of you are having a nice day. Sorry about the me me me post - I'm having a rant.....

herbgarden · 08/02/2009 11:52

lbb - will you stop cleaning please?!! Sit down and slob out with your boys. The cleaning can WAIT !!

MrsY · 08/02/2009 12:12

erm herby no you are not a cow. am rather at your hubby on your behalf. Is he back to work tomorrow? If not, I think it's high time you had a lie in. After all, he's just staying awake a bit linger to do the 10pm feed. You actually have to wake up, get up go back to sleep and then do it a second time - your night is broken, which is much worse than just being shorter. Tell him to grow up and take the kids to the shops so you can have a lie in, and then bring you breakfast in bed. DrY's orders !

Thanks for all your advice. Everything has stopped, and my insticts say to rest, but John keeps saying to walk around and stay active. I understand what he means, but my back is fecking killing me and I'm exhausted so I told him to bog off! I'm living in a hot bath, and eating little and often to keep energy levels up, just in case.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday xxx

mumoverseas · 08/02/2009 12:16

Dad Overseas here MoS had a wee baby boy this morning Harrison William 3.1 Kgs - both doing well

PinkTulips · 08/02/2009 12:17

herb, it's amazing how they can talk the talk when it comes to us being in pain/recovering from surgery but they don't actually want to have to do anything to help isn't it?

dp is the same, keeps telling me i shouldn't do x,y&z while pregnant and in pain but that doesn't seem to equate to him doing those things, he seems to think it's still a nice thing to say when he's basically just telling me to leave the house go to shit while he sits on his arse at the pc all day

as for the lie in arguement in this house, less said the better!

PinkTulips · 08/02/2009 12:21

excellant, well done MOS hope it all went well and the saudi loons medical professionals let you do things your way

mumoverseas · 08/02/2009 12:26

Dos here - Mos had to wait about 2 hours to hold Harrison but all fine now, just popped back to get a couple of our kids to visit the hospital, all fine in Saudi today - at least the sun is out which is more than can be said about home at the moment....

herbgarden · 08/02/2009 12:47

congrats MOS - I think that was your planned c-section wasn't it and hope that "consultant" didn't demand more £££....How exciting though and take it easy won't you - I think you have some "help" around the house so make the most of it !won

Washing machine man has just arrived so really hope he can fix it without needing to order a part....

Yep, DH back to work tomorrow so am going solo. DS is at nursery though so I'm being led in gently. I'm actually quite looking forward to having a day at home with DD who sleeps most of the time and is very little trouble at the moment during the day and without a grumpy DH moaning about the weather/DS being a pain in the arse and being able to watch hours of my rubbish recorded telly (given that I'm in bed at 8pm every night !!) - Brothers and Sisters, Greys Anatomy, Lark Rise to Candleford. And am very excited that Damages is back on Sunday 15th Feb so will be able to catch up on this on Mondays too !.....god I'm sad.

Am a bit worried about my scar. Seems a bit sore at either end and a bit weepy and although TMI I think it whiffs a bit too (sorry). Am going to see if the doctor can take a look at it as don't want it to get infected. It's not too red. It may just be healing but don't want to risk it.

fgpl · 08/02/2009 13:40

Just updating the list.
Home yesterday after planned cs on Thursday. All went very smoothly, although I can know empathise with people who walked to the gallows as thats what it felt like walking to theatre on Thursday morning.
Have had the best sleep for months over the past few nights and no more indigestion. Phoebe is really chilled so far and feeding 3 hourly. Have got Jordans boobs but they serving their purpose well. Am feeling pretty smug so far I'm afraid.
Big big congratulations to all the other new mums. Hope you are all doing ok. Will catch up with all the posts later.

So, just back from the morning in DAU as pains took a seriously nasty turn just after i last posted. Hooked up to a monitor and contractions were straight up to the 99% every 5-7 minutes. Left for ages with my tens and rocking over a chair with pain for 1.5 hrs until the consultant came and gave me an internal. Not in labour or dilating BUT she managed to get her finger in and feel baby's head Convinced her to give me a quick sweep whilst she was at it. Basically she has allowed me home as I live round the corner and I'm here to stay, grumbling away using paracetamol, tens and baths for the pain until it either turns into proper labour or stops

She did say however that I dont have to have a CS!!!! (Well the ELCS on 5th March anyway, cant tell about EmCS) As because she can get her finger in, it means she can break my waters just after my due date, if I get that far, and induce me that way!!!!! Such a huge relief as I really want to try a VBAC and that date was hanging over my head! Am sooooo f*ing happy, in pain, but happy

Calico1 · 08/02/2009 14:20

Congrats MOS and fgpl!!

I am so ready for this baby now and all the new arrivals are so exciting.

DH and I are reviewing our name choices this afternoon as I have now gone off all the ones I thought were right....DH is v traditional so it is hard to get anything a bit more unusual past his veto

Herb your DH sounds just like mine....he tells me off for doing too much and says I look exhausted - and then disappears off for the afternoon leaving me with DS and then asks what time is dinner when he gets back!!!

MarkStretch · 08/02/2009 14:26

I just had my first poo in a week.

I can only imagine that is what giving birth vaginally must feel like.

I am traumatised.

nkweto · 08/02/2009 14:26

Congratulations.. MOS, fgpl and McDreamy !!!!!!

Well done, and I hope you all manage to get some rest.

DD is not sleeping so well at night..but i am hoping she will swap her day time sleeping routine to the night ... going t nap now.

MarkStretch · 08/02/2009 14:28

Congratulations MOS fgpl and McDreamy too!

spottyshoes · 08/02/2009 14:31

Sorry, missed the Congrats

well done fpl and MOS - Loving the names (Mos especially fine choice )

spottyshoes · 08/02/2009 14:33

Calico - us too. Boy is set but girl is now up in the air as DH changed his mind - arrgh!

MS - Erm......congratulations??

MarkStretch · 08/02/2009 14:41

Thanks, I feel like that poo deserves its own birth announcement.

MarkStretch · 08/02/2009 14:50

DD is playing, DH is doing washing, I am MN'ing, NO ONE IS HOLDING THE BABY.

This is making me nervous, he's lying in his pram asleep, I don't like it when he's not stuck on me.

Do you think he'll be ok or is there a possibility he will be scarred from the detatchment so early on? I keep hopping up to check on him.

GOOD GOD you wouldn't believe this was my second would you?!

MarkStretch · 08/02/2009 15:14

I picked him up.

That was worse than the poo.

What an emotional day, can't believe I am here alone, talking about poo....you better all be off having babies....

herbgarden · 08/02/2009 15:18

MS- same in my house. I'm on MN - DH and DS are mucking around on the floor and no-one is holding the baby.....Shall we sign them up for counselling now ?

Congrats on your poo. It was pure relief when I did my first the night I was "let out". I held on to the door handle and took a few very deep breaths . God knows what it must be like if you've had stitches - ahem - down there.....It felt scary enough thinking I might split my scar stitches.
