MOS good luck with your CS! Its this weekend isnt it?
NKweto what a lovely birth story - am all emotional now
The girls and DH have been out for the last two hours snowboarding and generally having fun - i didnt make it out as felt all sleepy so had a lovely quiet nap. In my defense i was out at midnight yomping up and down our road with DH ( were like two very excited children at the arrival of snow ) just because i love that crispy freshly fallen snow that you get when it first falls.
Right am off to shave ( so the midwives dont go mad with a bic tomorrow morning! ) and languish in a lovely hot bath as i think its only showers for a while after Cs's - will have to ask as i havent and i love my baths!

McDreamy · 05/02/2009 11:42

oh nkweto you me in tears here!!! What a beautiful birthing story - you clever girl!

idontbelieveit · 05/02/2009 11:47

nkweto that story made me cry. So beautiful, well done and congratulations!

Thank you so much for all your kind words.

JenniferT have replied to you on facebook. Would be lovely to speak to someone in a similar position, thank you.

Rosie - sorry you had such a crap time in hospital, enjoy your day at home.

Little one needs milk, back in a bit to read rest of posts!

McDreamy · 05/02/2009 11:47

Ok all composed again!

Cocodrillo · 05/02/2009 12:47

Big big congratulations to MamaG and Nkweto Calico so sorry about your mini stroke, that must have been terrifying. I hope you're on the mend now.

IDBI sorry to hear about Freya. I'm surprised they don't diagnose antenatally so it doesn't come as such a shock. As everyone says the treatment sounds wonderful now - in terms of end result - and she won't remember the ops and plaster when she'd older. Of course this must be terribly distressing for you though .

Good luck FGPL McDreamy I am sending you no-baby-right-now-please vibes.

Pluto re bras you can probably get away with vests if you have smallish boobs. I have breasts the size of a child's head to need jumbo bras . Still have no idea what size to go for though. I have some old feeding bras somewhere - I might give them a go first, though DH seems to think that is a rank idea, amid much muttering about "manky old milk". They HAVE been washed since I last b/fed in them!

Good luck rosie - and MOS for Sunday!

Cocodrillo · 05/02/2009 12:53

Ok, so can anyone tell me about avoiding post-CS overhang?

This is my third DC and will be my first CS. The skin on my tummy was already not as it was after two kids, a bit wrinkly/loose but not terrible. I'm worried though that after this CS I'm going to look hideous and DH will never fancy me again. Is there anything you can buy/do to help your stomach regain its shape?

Cocodrillo · 05/02/2009 12:56

Oh Nkweto I have just read your birth story - you lucky thing, it sounds about perfect . Well done you .

spottyshoes · 05/02/2009 13:08

Coco I've heard you can use one of those spanx pants things that the slebs wear and it's suppose to aid with compressing the skin/overhang. I just did loads of tummy crunches but I know that's muscles not the skin, and they seemed to work. Although it was my 1st DC.

I've bought a relaxation CD for labour, it's the kind they have at Spa's. It's just arrived and I've put it on but it's actually making me sleepy!! May have to have a nap!

spottyshoes · 05/02/2009 13:12

Rosie - I stuck to showers for about 4 weeks but that was only as I couldn't face the stomach pain of hauling myself up out of a bath. (There wasn't any medical reason not to, infact my MW said it would be good as long as the water isn't too hot on the scar and I had someone to help me out.) As soon as I could manage a sit up I was back in them.

PinkTulips · 05/02/2009 13:20

IDBI... sorry you've had such a worrying day with freya but as the others have so wisely pointed out, at least she won't be aware of what's going on and by the time she is it'll almost be done with. not that that makes it any less stressful or worrying for you and your dh of course i hope it all goes well for the next few weeks..... don't be afraid to come on here and offload whenever you need to.... we're always here for a shoulder to cry on if you need us

Rosie, thanks for the labour vibes according to my friend as i hit 10 days overdue on a saturday and they don't induce at weekends i should be safe til monday week at least and hopefully i'll have had the baby by then but if not i should be able to get them to hold off til later in the week at the least.

that doctor sounds like a right cow, good for you for discharging yourself, hope you're enjoying your last day with just dh and the girls, good luck for tomorrow

good luck to fgpl as well, wonder if her little girl is out already?

pluto... i didn't buy nursing bra with dd til about a week after the birth as like you said they're so expensive to buy without being sure of sizes. that said they're not as tight as normal bras an have a laot of give so there is a certain amount of room for error with sizing so if you wanted to get one in a generous size to tide you over and then get a few more once your boobs have settled that would probably work wuite well.

shit... just scrolled down and read nkweto's birth story...... crying now

well done nkweto.... fair deuce for getting in the taxi..... think i would have had a nervous breakdown at that point! glad things are going smoothly so far, sounds like ds is smitten

PinkTulips · 05/02/2009 13:21

PinkTulips · 05/02/2009 13:23

stoopid crazed internet connection!

idontbelieveit · 05/02/2009 13:35

Thanks PT and everyone. You're all so lovely feeling a bit better this morning although had a very broken night, not sure if it's the casts or a growth spurt, will have to see what tonight brings. She's dozing in my moby d as i type.

Cocodrillo - in some ways i'm glad we didn't know antenatally as combined with the echogenic bowel (which has turned out to be a red herring) the talipes would have been an indicator for Edwards and we might have had an amnio resulting in miscarriage etc so actually i'm glad we didn't know.

have a good afternoon all. We have visitors just arrived. Back later xx

herbgarden · 05/02/2009 13:36

hi all.
IDBI sorry about the worrying news about your little girl but glad that the diagnosis is positive and hope you can find some support to put your mind at rest.

COCO this is my second c-section and although I'm only 13 days into my post section recovery, I am eyeing up the overhang and wondering about a tummy tuck !! It just sort of smiles at me. I have heard though that the scars from a tummy tuck can be worse?! I'll give myself 6-8 weeks and see what happens to it, but it ain't pretty for now. TBH after my first one it really wasn't that bad and you might find that over time you hardly notice it....I've never had a really flat stomach and don't think my muscle tone is great so not bad considering.

Not much help am I - see how it is in a few months......

mumoverseas · 05/02/2009 13:37

catstar, a tiffany necklace!!! lucky friend, I'd settle for a bunch of flowers (or food smuggled in if they don't feed me again)

Rosie, good luck for tomorrow and thanks for the shaving reminder down there
Am I going mad or is someone else due to have a CS tomorrow? Baby brain, can't think straight.

nkweto, lovely birth story, I imagine mine will be a little boring (unless of course the consultant does demand his cash bung in which case there may be more bloodshed than normal)

Coco, there must be a way to avoid it, I mean, look at posh spice after a few CS's. Mind you, if we all had her money....

Still no news on Pempe?

PinkTulips · 05/02/2009 14:24

isn't there some way they can stitch the wound that minimises overhang... something about stitiching the fat but they don't do it routinely as it takes too long and therefore would cost the NHS money but if you're private you can request they do it?

or did i hallucinate that

Calico1 · 05/02/2009 14:25

nkweto thats a beautiful birth story!

McDreamy - yes, snowed in here too and nursery closed of course, so exhausted with energetic DS today. Hope nothing happens for you until the snow clears but I hear that more snow is forecast for the Chilterns tomorrow morning....wish I could help!

IDBI - so sorry to hear about your concerns over Freya, but it sounds like she will be absolutely fine in the long term - it must be so hard for you to see her in plaster, they look so fragile when they are that size don't they but she obviously has a very strong mummy to look after her, so in that sense she is a lucky little girl. Big hugs to you x

dinkystinky · 05/02/2009 14:51

Hello all. Welcome back Jennifer. Spotty - sorry to hear about your nightmares (doesnt help when you're uber sleep deprived to start with!!). Sounds like you and DS have had a nice day in the snow though and I hope you get a nice nightmare free nap in today - who knows, maybe your jaunt in the snowwill trigger start labour for you too like Nkweto! Roie at your obs consultant - what an unsympathetic cow! Good on you for discharging yourself and sounds like you've had a lovely time at home with DH and your girls.... Good luck for tomorrow; hope the snow doesnt cause any issues for you.

McDreamy - hope little one stays put until your DH is back.

Pluto - re breastpads, guess it depends on how long you end up on the ward. My milk came in on day 2 (DS was on the boob pretty much constantly due to being on antibiotics via a drip and in a lot of pain) so I definitely did need both Lanisoh and breastpads (and flannels to do warm compresses on engorged boobs) while on postnatal ward. Sorry, no idea re breastfeeding vests - though have you tried the bellamama.co.uk website (saw it recommended on another thread)? Have also seen (on another thread) recommendations for www.nursingbras.co.uk - they may do stretchy vests...

Nkweto - that is a fantastic birth story (I'd love one like that)! Its great it was so quick too as I remember that you said your labour with your DS was really prolonged and obviously all meant to be as the birth centre space opened up just in time for you.... Hope you're all settling in really well at home now.

MoS - not long to go now - hope your consultant continues to behave himself. My DH got me a push present, about 9 months after DS was born - a designer handbag (it took me that long to decide what style I liked) - told him he didnt need to spend so much but he wanted to give me something to celebrate DS's birth and commemorate the tough time I'd had giving birth to him and insisted so who was I to argue. This time round, am hoping wont need a push present at all to help make the birth have more positive connotations....

Hello all.

Kind of a drive-by posting really to share the news that our Fab Feb baby (due on the 8th) actually just snuck in to January and arrived on Saturday night, just before the snow. Tabitha Rose weighed in at 6lbs 15oz and is just about perfect. I'll be back to bore you with the details at some point, meanwhile I'll attempt to put up a photo.

Good luck to all those still waiting and good vibes to those having a rough time.

Now, where can I get me some sleep?

KT1983 · 05/02/2009 14:58

MrsY · 05/02/2009 15:25

Hi all.

Nkweto what a lovely story - will you add it to the birth story thread on the fb group?

Stacysmom congratulations, and welcome to Tabitha, such a gorgeous name.

pluto my lovely mummy bought me a bravissimo bra to cheer me up which arrived today. It's so pretty and feminine, and as it has 6 sets of fastenings at the back, should last me through a few back sizes. It was on the pricey side, but I'm hoping that I can feed for at least a year, so is a worthwhile investment (and especially as she is just our first...)

Dinky hows the snot monster?

pluto and lardy I've been really impressed with MH so far - it's been clean and calm and the staff have all been wonderful. Even though I'm disappointed to miss my homebirth, I think I'm happier with MH than I would be at PH - parking and traffic being obvious problems for PH at the moment...

DAU was same old, same old, today! Internal was uncomfortable but things are favourable, and I've lost most of the plug, plus the trace showed steady regular tightenings (not strong, but midwife was happy). Will try curry and induction by seduction for the next few nights, and then fingers crossed on Monday we'll start the sweeps!

herbgarden · 05/02/2009 15:26

Mmmm my surgeon didn't even introduce himself let alone allow me to ask him for some cosmetic extras !!.....now if I'd have had the elective as planned with my female consultant I wonder if I might have had a different experience....

Lovely name, Tabitha - congrats !

I asked DS if I got a present for producing our beautiful daughter as I was such a clever girl and he said she was my present and wasn't he a clever boy ? ...you can see I won't win here can't you.

Am feeling quite weary this pm...LO is doing 1ish and 5ish am feeds and then DS starts yelling at 6.30 to get out of bed. I really suffer with getting back off to sleep after feeding so although I'm getting stretches I don't always get the full quota....You forget how hard this newborn bit is. As I have ds to look after during the day there ain't no sneaky naps either....Must get those grannies over and soon !

Hope the rest of you with your lo's are getting on ok. Saw my friend with her 3 week old last week and he was sleeping all day and partying all night and her first is the same age as my ds - she looked knackered.

It will pass ! Must go and wind- she's got the hiccups !

Are we going to start a post natal now ladies that we are popping out at the rate of knots ???

mumoverseas · 05/02/2009 15:37

stacysmum, congratulations on the arrival of Tabitha, what a beautiful name.

herb, hope you start getting your little madam into a routine which gives you a bit more sleep. See you DH is like mine with the presents thing!
Funny how traditions vary. A finnish friend of mine out here had this thing about having a 'maternity' ring when she had her DD. I thought maybe she meant an eternity ring and got confused in the translation but apparently it is either a finnish thing or she made it up. She did eventually get one.
There is a Saudi/arabic custom that I've heard of which I think is one of the few I may adopt. Apparently, with newborn babies, when they get to a certain age (think its 40 days) they shave their hair and the parents are given the weight of the hair in gold by family and friends. Absolutely refused to consider it with DD as she had a beautiful head of hair when born and girls need to have hair but if this little boy has a lot I might consider it

dinky, handbag sounds nice. would still be very grateful for flowers though or maybe a balloon. Watch this space.

Had a minor panic a few hours ago, had a call on my mobile which showed up as being the Kingdom Hospital where we are having LO. I refused to answer it and gave phone to DH as was convinced it would be the 'by the way, bring SR5000 call' but it was just a call to confirm my saturday night appointment with the anaesthatist (damm it, I must learn to spell that word)

Right off for an early bath/dvd/bed as absolutely knackered today and still can't shift this damm cold.

Once again, good luck for tomorrow Rosie, I'm starting to panic a bit as my name gets closer to the top of the list!
