Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MarkStretch · 22/01/2009 14:07

I sat down on the sofa for a cup of coffee and woke up 2 hrs later. Very nice.

Been looking for flights for my mother to come over from France and look after dd while I go in for my CS (assuming I make it) and the only flights back for her leave at 8am meaning she would have to leave at 4am! Ergh.

Well, she was the one who wanted to move to rural France 3 weeks before I was due!

mumoverseas · 22/01/2009 14:29

afternoon all, like you MS I managed a lovely nap. Took DD up for a little nap after lunch at around (our 2pm) and the next thing I knew it was 4.30pm! Just had to rush around to get dinner in the oven.

LMN, sorry about your BP & hospital visit. Hope it wasn't too bad and you at least got to rest.

America, sorry you're feeling bad too and hope you soon feel much better.

Kazza, exciting about en-suite. We had ours (in UK) done last summer after it being out of action for almost 6 years and I love it. We pushed the boat out and had the shower ripped out and a (tiny!) corner bath with jacuzzi put in and its my favourite room in the house now.

MS, pain about flights for your mum. I guess Stanstead is your nearest airport? Are there not any hotels at the airport where she could stay the night before? Mind you, with a new baby, you'll probably be up at 4am

PinkTulips · 22/01/2009 14:39

lol, MOS is right, you'll probably be glad of the excuse to pop baby in the car and drive at 4am

fairy cakes baked... just need to be iced now. rest of the party stuff will have to be bought in the morning due to dp having my last fiver at his course with him!

had a bit of a funny turn and dusted the cobwebs from all the ceilings and cleaned the cupboard doors in the kitchen too you'd think i'd be able to focus the nesting on something slightly more constructive wouldn't you? that said... the cobwebs were quite bad due to my habit of cultivating spiders

McDreamy · 22/01/2009 14:45

Ok have been sorting although I think it would be a bit rich to describe it as nesting! Anyway I have come across 2 packets of Avent 0m+ bottle teats if anyone wants them. They are still their sealed box. Let me know and I'l pop them in the post. Off to do the school run.

america · 22/01/2009 15:08

Mamagoose, I'm very impressed. I have so far only washed NB babygros and bought a packet of NB nappies... I tried to shop for a BF nightgown for hospital but couldn't find anything nice. Any suggestions?

Thanks MOS and others, I actually do feel marginally better and anyways, one more day in the office and I'll join you ladies in nesting and baking cakes

I'm with you KazzaL, my bump is definitively very low too and baby was engaged 2/5 earlier this week. Whatever it means in the second pregnancy. Does anybody know how likely it is for the DC2 to come early? I'm actually quite looking forward to having some time for myself before the birth (and DS1 still with the CM).

Any news on Pempe?

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 15:18

Afternoon. We managed a 2 hour nap, pure bliss before the phone rang! Everyone I have given land line number to knows not to ring me between 11:30 and 3:00 just in case! Nevermind.
Me and ds have spent last hour making a huge mess playing in his room. I got bored so have left him to it, but think I can hear him coming.
Whoever said about their bump resting on their legs, it's horrid isn't it?
I say ladygarden or woo-woo when referring to special place as think the more common nick-names for it are just vulgar and sometimes feel really silly using proper term. Often think about what I'll teach ds though, will it be penis and vagina or something more child friendly?

TMI ALERT
Just wondered if anyone else is feeling the need to go to the toilet all of the time? (Not to pee) About 3 times a day generally. I shouldn't complain as I was awfully blocked up with ds and found it very difficult to 'go'.

idontbelieveit · 22/01/2009 15:19

mamagoose - my accountant is on his way over now and i am surrounded by a pile of meanigless papers comprising receipts, invoices and bus and train tickets. I have about 30mins until he gets here....and dd just woke up. Feel like i should be singing that "beat the clock" song from Me Too - anyone else finding cbeebies on constantly at the moment? dd keeps switching off the nightgarden saying it's boring, i think that's probnably a sign of too much tv.

herbgarden · 22/01/2009 15:22

Menthol crystals which you should be able to buy from Boots are great for nasal congestion - just drop a few (they are really strong) in a bowl of hot water and inhale gently - it'll make your eyes water so be careful (you need to ask pharmacist for them you prob won't find them out on the shelf).

It was me talking about the pump and the P&T buggy - what happens though if you get a flat whilst you're out ?? I even bought a puncture repair kit ? ! I suppose I hadn't counted on the fact that if it happens whilst out you'd have to offload all the kids somewhere whilst you repair the puncture ?!It's hardly a bike is it- what was I thinking?

idontbelieveit · 22/01/2009 15:22

lbb - re going to the loo - yes, for a couple of weeks - it's gross.

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 15:24

Cbeebies always on in the background here. I don't really know why I turn the tv on all of the time, ds doesn't seem bothered, it's not an issue if I turn it off to read to him or to do a puzzle or something, he seems pretty easy going with it, but it's nice at the moment to just lay on sofa and leave him to it
Glad Skye and Jelly are going though, hopefully the new 2 won't be anywhere near as annoying.

herbgarden · 22/01/2009 15:24

idbi- do you have sky+ .....? I've started recfording the stuff which I know DS likes- he went off ITNG about 2/3 months ago - maybe an age thing.

I'm shining my halo - tax return submitted online on Tuesday.....my weekend "break" in the hospital kicked me into gear at last. DH even managed to do his last night.

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 15:26

idbi Thank god for that. Thought it was just me!!

idontbelieveit · 22/01/2009 15:27

herb only had 1 puncture since i got my Jane, it's done almost 3 years. I do get very paranoid about broken glass though. Lost the pump that comes with it within about a week of getting it as it was badly attatched and dropped off in the street somewhere. Luckily i was with dh when we had the puncture and he pushed it home on 2 wheels so it wasn't too bad. I did loose a quick release whell while pushing it along once as well, my step dad hadn't put it back together properly, should have double checked it myself. it was quite funny as the wheel rolled away but a bit stressful trying to catch it with the pushchair and dd in tow.

herbgarden · 22/01/2009 15:28

lbb - TMI but every time I go I pretty much have an urge to poo. I almost wondered if it was a pre-cursor to labour......I think (as I'm sure I mentioned before) that the baby must be sitting in a position making the urge stronger. The BHicks seems to make me want to go too (prob like labour).

On the what you call your bits and bobs topic, my DS said to me the other day "mummy not got a willy, you've got a Hairy"....mmmm nice.

idontbelieveit · 22/01/2009 15:29

don't have sky+ but dd got lots of disney dvds for Christmas and she's totally addicted to them. She's quite happy to sit through an hour and a half snuggled up on the settee while i snooze but i do feel guilty about her not getting enough exercise or stimulation. Not for much longer though thank goodness.

mumoverseas · 22/01/2009 16:06

right, knackered so off for bath/dvd's in bed and hopefully sleep!
will there be any new arrivals when I get up tomorrow? Lots of nesting going on

mslucyisbeached · 22/01/2009 16:39

herbgarden I too have a constant feeling of needing to poo and a constant terror of either pooing myself or thought that this is early labour (I am WILLING Stanley to stay put until slicing date).
however, when it actually comes to the crunch I either don't need to do one or do a rather pathetic one (tmi).

I also have a constant worry that if I strain, the baby's head will appear - even thogh rationally I know this is nonsense.
But as I've said already, my brain is utterly fried and nothing is clear other than the fact that I am absolutely gagging for a large plate of fish and chips tonight.

mentalpup · 22/01/2009 16:44

Afternoon ladies.
Thought I'd actually retire to my bed for an hour or so this afternoon as DS is in nursery and I spent the entire morning sorting. Now feel totally crap and would like to go back to bed! Have to go and collect him though and then be bright and happy till bed time. Not convinced the nap has done me any good at all!
Also have my weekly MW check this afternoon sometime (MW is neighbour so she'll fit me in when she gets home). Baby feels very low and I am officialy in the fed up stage now!

PinkTulips · 22/01/2009 17:09

cakes are now pink as per dd's request.... although am tempted to bin the lot as the little brat just wet herself again

dp's sue home any minute and not only have i not sorted dinner.... i haven't the faintest idea what dinner will be

MarkStretch · 22/01/2009 17:15

Hi all

MrsY text and said her BP was up at her midwife appointment and so she is back in DAU being monitored. Let's send her relaxing {{{{{{vibes}}}}}}}

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 17:50

Oh dear. Poor MrsY. Speaking of high BP any news on LMN?
Ds just had his dinner and seems to think peas are called ball was quite funny actually.

He's been a bit whiney this afternoon, everything we tried to do ebded in him making that really horrible noise so now have a head ache.
Dp's trying to get me to cut ds's hair again - those of you at meet the other day may have noticed how wild and out of control it is, but I hate cutting his hair, I can never get in straight and I quite like it long.

Dinner tonight here is nice and simple, eggs, ham, chips and peas.

herbgarden · 22/01/2009 17:54

mslucy - me too - we need to will those babies to stay put for d-day on 2nd Feb. It's weird though isn't it being fed up with being pregnant and wanting baby out against willing them to stay put til they get pulled out!..I don't remember being this fed up with being pg last time.

I've had a friend here most of the day with her dd but I just took ds on an unnecessary trip to Waitrose in the car just to get out the house for 5 mins to buy 4 ingredients when I could have easily concocted dinner from the fridge and ds got a few mins of his nursery rhymes on the car cd player. Managed to waste an hour and it's now tea time for ds then telly til bed......aaaah roll on 7pm. God life is exciting! One more day til the weekend when DS is off to my in-laws over night to give me a bit of a rest and ds a bit of time with grandma and granddad

herbgarden · 22/01/2009 18:01

ooh my dh loves ham egg and chips. He's getting pasta
Poor MsLucy - hope all ok for her.

Have you taken ds to the barber yet lbb - ds has had a huge (and thick) amount of hair from about 7/8 months. I started taking him from about 12 months and it was pretty traumatic for both of us - he had to be pretty much in a headlock with snot and tears pouring down his face ...the lady in the barbers was always really sweet and said he isn't the worst she's ever seen - but at 2.6 years he's finally able to be coaxed into the chair onto a booster seat alone - will only go to the same barbers place with the same lady doing it. I have to cuddle him from whichever angle I can and we have to distract and then give a pack of choc buttons when it's all over!!!...If you can do your ds's, hats off to you - he wouldn't let me near him with a pair of scissors so I had no choice (and it isn't the type of hair able to grow long and cute either !).....

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 18:16

herb I first cut ds's hair when he was about 10 months I think, it was hanging below his nose! I only wanted to get it just resting on his eyebrow but failed miserably! It's now at the stage where I put his hat on to go out and his hair goes up his nose, it's as long at the front as it is at the back when wet
I went to the hairdressers and they told me they wanted £9.50!!!! so I laughed and left.
He's not too bad at letting me near him, but he keeps moving about so is not impressed when I catch his ear. My mum does it better.
If you want to see my 1st attempt, there is a pic on my profile, 3rd 1 down

thehouseofmirth · 22/01/2009 18:38

I want ham, egg, & chipss now. But we're having braised lamb chops with mashed potatoes instead.

Last time DS had his hair professionally cut they completely ignored what I said about keeping it long and gave him a short back and sides resulting in us both leaving the hairdresers in tears and DS repeating the mantra it will grow back all the way home. Since then, I've done it myself and I am getting better and better at it. The secret is to just take off small amounts until you feel confident about giving it a more definite style. I's relatively easy to do if you plonk them in front of the TV though DS will sit still and let me do it now without distraction. Hmmm... have just looked at the back of his head and his hair is longer than mine, think I'd better get the scissors out now!
