Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hahaha THOM Ds sees me coming no matter from what angle! Dp really wants me to do it tonight while he's in the bath and hair is wet. I think I'm going to ignore him and send ds over to my mum's, might get her to keep him for a day or 2 too, now there's a plan

PinkTulips · 22/01/2009 18:50

lbb... i use dp's shaver on blade 8 and just cringe for a week or two til it grows out a bit

ds's seems to grow faster at the front than anywhere else and hangs in his eyes, i know when it's time to buck up and do it when he starts getting conjunctivitis again

i had my friend trim it once but it was no easier doing that and he almost had his eye taken out a few times whipping his head round and it was too long within a week again so seemed an utter waste of time.

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 18:54

I couldn't get the clippers to him, oh I really couldn't.
Dp has (or likes to have) a complete slap-head and often asks me to check/go over the back and I can't bare to do it to him, nevermind to my baby.
I'm not cutting it yet, I think he looks lovely, even if everyone else laughs when they see it. My friends have told me I'm a disgrace (which I think is a bit strong) for allowing it to get this long.

PinkTulips · 22/01/2009 18:58

i have a friend who lets her sons hair get to his shoulders before she gives in to her dp... and then it only gets trimmed to longer than ds's would ever get

trust me, your ds is probably fairly mild in comparison!

thehouseofmirth · 22/01/2009 18:59

LBB be careful if you do it wet as it'll dry shorter!

Apparently you do have to be careful with hair over eyes as it can affect their vision in they start focussing on the hair and it damages their eye sight...

thehouseofmirth · 22/01/2009 19:01

I have been known to put DS's hair in a pony tail - only in the privacy of my own home...

mslucyisbeached · 22/01/2009 19:24

just eaten fish and chips and a gherkin, much to dh's great revulsion. first proper craving I've had for ages.

re: long haired boys.
my ds has a barnet that puts most girls to shame - for more luxuriant than anything I ever had as a child.

I usually cut it myself - in a fairly haphazard fashion - but took him round to a haircutting neighbour who had a go at him the other day. He refused to sit still despite various sugary bribes - like his father he prefers to be long haired.

THOM. Never resorted to ponytail but experimented with slides (strictly behind closed doors!)

thehouseofmirth · 22/01/2009 19:28

MsLucy, that's the same problem I have. DH also has long hair so that's what DS wants. Though I think long haired boys are lovely anyway.

Gherkins, yum! You should have really weirded out your DH by having a pickled egg too!

thehouseofmirth · 22/01/2009 19:30

Does anyone else get weird periody-pain-style back ache when they've got wind? I keep panicking and thinking something might be happening only to realise that it's trapped wind!

mslucyisbeached · 22/01/2009 19:33

a pickled egg is maybe a bridge too far even for me, though the pickled onions were definitely calling my name!

Long haired boys are the best - esp if they have lovely hair like ds.

I gave Little O her first hair cut ready for the meet up on Monday! She was one of those babies with peach fuzz until she was about 12 months, then it started to slooooowly grow. I just wanted to get it our of her eyes and off her neck. It wasn't easy to do though with the nail scissors and I think I will stick to insurance as a profession....

Had a bit of a day, but no pregnancy concerns so I feel lucky. Hope all of you being monitored/in discomfort get some rest. DD's eczema has been gradually getting worse so I booked a GP appointment for this afternoon, however, nursery phoned in the meantime as she had a temperature so I took her straight to the GP who thinks her skin has become infected and she may have septicemia (sp?). She's got killer antibiotics tonight but if no better tomorrow might be a hospital job for some IV abs. I've never seen her so ill, she has literally clung to me all day, and it's not easy with the bump being in the way!

Oooh - better dash, here comes DH bearing gifts of tandoori chicken, peshwari nan and mushroom bhajee. mmmmmmm

Am eagerly awaiting the next birth announcement .....

idontbelieveit · 22/01/2009 19:58

THOM yes i get that, it's annoying.
catstar poor little O, hope the ABs do the trick tonight and she's feeling better soon. dd has eczema but it's under control at the moment thank goodness, much worse in the summer when she's sweaty, dh gets it really badly so am worried she'll get worse as she gets older. it's so hard when they're ill at the best of times never mind when we're this pregnant.
Poor MrsY reminds me of dd when i had a homebirth booked, my bp was up and down from 36 weeks it's not fun at all. Sending her some relaxing vibes.

herbgarden · 22/01/2009 20:01

Oh Catstar your poor DD that sounds awful I really hope she's ok.

THOM - I get this too - then the trapped wind gets untrapped and it's pure relief (everyone seems to know about my wind/pooing habits now don't they !!!). DH cheekily told the doctor at the weekend that I was very windy .

My DS has been known to nick one of his little girlfriends hairclips and wander round with it in his hair all day. He'd make such a cute girl !

LittleMissNorty · 22/01/2009 20:07

Hiya...blimey what a day.

BP "creeping up" rather than dangerously high....was 143/110 this morning but come down to 135/90 by this afternoon so think they are going to keep their eyes on me....thanks for all the good wishes.

I spent an hour driving around the fucking car-park looking for a space and ended up in tears to DH (and maternity day-care as I missed my appointment by miles)....so I drove to DHs work and he took me in and came and picked me up again....I had to wait over 2 hours to be seen and then another 2 having bloods and being monitored!!!

Luckily my sister had DD smile and she had her first happy meal and McDon milkshake smile

right, dinner ready....will catch up tomorrow properly.

MrsY...hope you're all ok

dinkystinky · 22/01/2009 20:19

Catstar - how awful! I really hope the abs you've got do the trick and Little O is feeling tonnes better tomorrow - its really awful seeing your little one so sad and poorly. Thinking of you guys and sending you all huge hugs.

Hope MrsY and LMN are both ok and have been released to the safety and sanity of their own homes again.

Re boys with long hair - We have a tendency to let DS's hair grow until it is really unruly and getting in his eyes and then get our old neighbour (lovely french hairdresser who has known him since he was born - and who bribes him to sit still with her daughters toys) to snip it all off and repeat the cycle over and over. Both DH and I love DS with longer hair (especially as it gets a little curl to it) and get freaked out at how grown up he looks when he's had it all cut off. When he was a little baby he was born with a full head of black hair (the indian baby genes there) - which rubbed off at the sides (the white baby genes there) - leaving him with a mohican for months (we actually had people ask us if we'd done that to his hair intentionally )which was adorable...

MsLucy - jealous of your fish and chips and LBB of your ham egg and chips and peas (never make that at home - always order it in pubs though). Once internet food delivery finally arrives I shall be making lamb ragu and garlic bread for dinner tonight... may change my mind and just send DH out to the fish & chip shop on Salusbury Road which we still havent tried out a year after moving in...

And speaking of our house, we have fully functioning blinds in our bedroom now (hurrah!) so have sorted out cot in there and will be tending to packing hospital bag tomorrow evening and then, in theory, will be set (except for nursing bras)

dinkystinky · 22/01/2009 20:22

Oh LMN - x post; sorry about your stress in the hospital car park (I never get why they're so packed all the time when they're so bloody expensive to park in!) but glad you've been released home and they're just keeping an eye on you. Glad your DD had a nice day with your sister too - I also now want a happy meal... Doh, must not MN when hungry and have no food in the house...

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 20:52

THOM Didn't even occur to me about him focusing on the hair and damaging his vision. Will def do it tomoz, and yes I remember from my mum cutting mine when I was young that it dries shorter
And yes about the trapped wind, although a period style back ache has been constant for a few days now.
catstar Your poor dd. How awful for her and worrying for you. Hope she shows some improvement tomorrow.

My dinner was lovely! Dp had to cook it because I can't cook eggs, or anything else really! He says it's because I don't think things through and just because the knob on hob turns to high, doesn't mean I have to go all the way.

Very of the fish and chips and curry though.

The bottom of bump is very sore and tight, I can't cross my leg over now so am resting 1 leg on ds's chair, have a very 'heavy' feeling down there. Not nice.
At docs tomorrow as have now finished the latest course of AB's, she also wants to keep me on a low dose for next few weeks and have an appointment with consultant again on monday but don't really see the point of that. The mw made the appointment as she feels I would benefit from discussing how fed up I am and about the constant UTI and the GBS and to tell him how scared I am about treatment through labour blah blah blah, but he won't induce just because I've got the ump or nobody would ever go into labour naturally, and they won't induce just because of the GBS because that's quite common too, so expect monday to be a huge waste of everybodies time.
I am always moaning aren't I?

I can no longer turn over in bed, I have to sit up to change position.

swampster · 22/01/2009 20:58

Looks like everyone's talking about haircuts on MN!

I have been asleep. It was lovely!

Catstar, that's horrid about the eczema. I used to get it and DS1 used to get it a lot worse than I did. I figured out that for me mineral oil seems to be the main trigger and sure enough the minute I cut that out of DS1's life, his eczema cleared up and hasn't been a problem for about two years now (he's almost five).

That rules out an awful lot of the so-called treatment for eczema. But hey, petroleum-based products fuel wars - why would I want to cover my children in them? (And before anyone asks, no, I haven't got a car but I have been known to travel in vehicles fueled by mineral oil).

Also banished Sodium Laurel/Laureth Sulphate for small boys and myself - unless someone gives me something lovely from somewhere like Origins and I can't resist it.

Dinky, when DS2 was born I thought he was going to be ginger - well, you've seen him for yourself now! Love the mohican.

swampster · 22/01/2009 21:01

LMN

LBB, I have a lovely hairdresser who comes to my house and does my hair and the hair of two little boys at a bargain rate.

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 21:10

I'll start paying to get it done properly when he starts nursery or something if I haven't mastered it by then! But I cannot justify spending nearly £10 on it atm.
Am gonna do it tomorrow though, will post another pic if it's really bad and we can all have a giggle!

swampster · 22/01/2009 21:12

Belly bandit anyone? I think I'll just let mine hang out.

dinkystinky · 22/01/2009 21:15

Good grief - what will they think of next? I'm with you on the letting it all hang out Swampy - not sure post baby brain would be able to figure out how to put the bloody thing on!

littleboyblue · 22/01/2009 21:18

I'm with you there swamp, let it all hang out, I'll be the shape I'll be for a reason
And if dp doesn't like it, tough, he should've thought about that before he got me up the duff twice in as many years!

herbgarden · 22/01/2009 21:42

I think a Kaftan is the way to go isn't it?? God I'm so sick of my uncomfortable bump the thought of pulling on one of those things (which surely can't be in the least bit comfortable) makes me wince....just like a pair of control pants, the wobble has to go SOMEWHERE?! and probably like control pants you just can't wait to take it off after a while.

lbb - I am horrified how much I have to pay to get DS hair cut (a tenner for a 2.6 year old ) but then I figure that he actually has more hair than my DH (who just has a number 1 all over) and the experience is slightly more painful and time consuming for the hairdresser so maybe it's vaguely justified. He does look all grown up though when it's done.....
