example of DH's grasp of the reality that Im huge, about to pop and should be spending alll day lying on the sofa eating chocolates - he's just phoned and asked if I;ve started paitning the nursery yet - give me a chance,I need some breakfast first after dropping DS at nursery and then he said "the more you get done, the less I have to do"

LittleMissNorty · 23/01/2009 09:03

Bloody hell Kazza....men just do not get it do they

idontbelieveit · 23/01/2009 09:11

Morning all
Tax return is done YAY!

kazza. I'm very lucky with my dh but he was sounding very poorly when he got up for work this morning. I think he has man flu, hope he's recovered by monday.
MrsY - you may still get your hb, don't give up yet. Have you tried getting the midwives to come out to you instead of going to hospital? that way you would probably be more relaxed. My bp was up and down from around 36 weeks with dd but they would still have let me hb if i hadn't got oligohydramnious and gone 15 days overdue.
Catstar - hope your dd is a bit better this morning.

3 days to go aaaaargh! i'm very very scared of section, very very scared.....

dinkystinky · 23/01/2009 09:18

Morning all. KazzaL - threaten to sit on your DH if he comes out with any more useful comments like that!

Catstar - woke up thinking about you and Little O this morning; hope she's improved overnight. Let us know how you're all doing when you can.

Happy due date Laidback! Hope you're still being tended on hand and foot by your DH and mum...

McDreamy - sorry to hear you have a cold; hope it passes soon (and you escape the pesky nocturnal cough stage for weeks afterwards).

MrsY (and LMN too) - so sorry to hear that you're having to be under such close monitoring (though as LBB says, great that they are keeping such a close eye on you and will be able to advise what, if anything, is needed when its needed). Try and take things easy - remember to drink lots of water (headache may be due to combination of stress and dehydration - Lavendar compress over eyes/forehead and lavendar baths also good for helping shift them I've found) - and focus on the fact that you'll see your beautiful little girl soon. And if you can, get something nice done for you -new haircut, nails done, go to cinema - whatever, just to take your mind off things for a bit. It is a shame that your longed for homebirth looks like its off the cards, but it is perfectly possible to have a calm happy hospital birth too (plenty of people do).

KT - I can appreciate how you must feel more than a little overwhelmed at the moment (new home, DP's family just round the corner now and in your space a lot of the time, new baby coming - so many changes); just try and take one day at a time and I agree with MoS, if you can look up antenatal meet up groups (maybe through local NCT, look online, or speak to your midwife about local surestart groups) it'll give you an excuse to get out the house and meet other people, which in turn will keep DP's relatives at bay (as they'll stop worrying that you're feeling lonely/unsettled). To be honest, much as I love my family and DH's family, I'm rather glad they dont just live round the corner from us as they would very much be in our space all the time if they could be - its just their way of showing love though.

Maternity leave starts one week today - think that sounds about right as 20min walk to overland train station is definitely becoming much slower (mostly because of my body sending I need to pee messages to me constantly and me having to stop to tell it no it doesnt). Slept in our nice tidy ready for baby bedroom last night with DH (for the first time in ooh around 4 weeks) and DH kept stealing all the duvet and invading my side of the bed - grrr....

MarkStretch · 23/01/2009 09:26

'I once had such a crap day that, at about 3pm, I downed two shots of Asda Smart Price brandy I'd bought for the Christmas cake'

ROFL

KazzaL · 23/01/2009 10:18

dinkystinky - every sympathy for having a duvet & bed stealing DH, we're moving into the spare room from sunday so the plumber has more space to do our ensuite from monday and I'm so going to miss our big kingsize for the week or so we're in there

MamaGoose · 23/01/2009 10:30

Morning all,

Best wishes to all those having BP, monitoring issues etc.

Congrats on the tax return IDBI! Dull job isn't it? Not sure how I managed it but mine showed that HMRC owed me money. Fantastic. Only £14 but hey better then nothing.

Just catching up with other conversations but my bump sort of rests on my legs when I'm sitting down too. And this baby has been engaged (3/5ths over a week ago) but doesn't actually seem to be coming out anytime soon so I'm not sure it makes that much difference. But I do slightly have that 'cowboy without a horse' look about me when I walk.

catstar · 23/01/2009 10:42

Hi there - just had a quick catch up and hope everyone ok?

Thanks for all lovely messages about DD - she's a different girl this morning, all smiles and running around!!! However, she is still covered in this horrible rash - just been back to GP to check if actually chicken pox (he says not) so we'll just keep going with the abs over the weekend. Lovely to have my happy girl back though.

Was up checking on her lots in the night so a bit tired today so hoping to nap when she does. I was supposed to be meeting a friend for lunch then going to the cinema while DD's was a nursery today so a bit of a change of plan! Horrible weather here but will have to get out at some point.

Anyway DD crawling all over me so better go before she presses something important.

Take care y'all!

KT1983 · 23/01/2009 10:54

Good idea MoS & Dinky* I meant to look at the hospital board when I went last week at all the mums & babies groups going on. I will remember this tuesday. Im sure when she arrives & I do start going to these things that il begin to make friends.
Im sure when the summer comes around ( long way off i know ) things will be better too, il be able to take baby to the park etc & meet other mums.

I think Im just using up all my energy on waiting now - although in reality, im pretty sure she will hit her Due date & beyond.

On the plus side, DP has just called to say he is going to take me out for dinner tomorrow night
Weve not been out in Months as been saving for baby, saving for Christmas & the move.

pluto · 23/01/2009 11:00

Good morning - it's nearly time for elvenses everyone - I've got some lovely chocolate shortbread if anyone's interested? However my scoffing of chocolate my explain the outcome of my scan today....

I'm back from my early morning scan. Baby is head down, which is what my midwife wanted to confirm....but....brace yourselves....at 36 weeks and 2 days the weight of the baby is already judged to be.....8lbs 5oz. Oh. My. God.

So, with 4 weeks to go there is a growing sense that a VBAC is not a realistic route; I can't be induced due to chance of scar rupture and if it arrives as late as DS, who was 10 days over I could be looking at delivering something in the region of 11+ lbs. They don't think I've got gestational diabetes - as DS was big, but my bump is really not on the big size - everyone says how "neat" I am. There was some discussion at the DAU about going in for a gestational diabetes check next week but in the end they decided just to send me to see the consultant on Tuesday, when I expect we'll be getting diaries out to ink in a CS.

In the end I am fine about this, if this is what the consultant recommends - in fact I may just tell him based on all this I've changed my mind about the VBAC I thought I wanted. I am totally signed up to the philospophy that you don't have a baby for the birth experience, it's the the rest of your lives together that are point of it all!

pluto · 23/01/2009 11:02

"elvenses" - as you can see I am also signed up to the wizarding school of spelling. I teach GCSE fairycraft and magical charms, not English.

KT1983 · 23/01/2009 11:12

pluto Chocolate shortbread sounds very yummy - I could do with some of that today.

11 lbs - Blimey, That is a big baby - I think Id opt for the CS too - but thats just me, as im a great big whimp & not quite sure how im going to get through the birth of my little 'un estimated at about 5lb +.

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 23/01/2009 11:18

I?m obviously not logging on often enough! I wonder if we?ll manage to beat our ten-day record? I?ve had two days where I have spent most of the day baby-mooning, but as she?s had a cold we have definitely needed it as I?ve not been sleeping trying to keep her upright.

NN-MW comes out today and we find out if it?s going to be a trip into hospital for a jaundice check. She is still a little yellow and sleepy but she is going in the right direction.

Well done Pluto, hope baby stays that way for you.

Questionkid there?s not much that can ever be done about PGP, but just comfort yourself with you don?t have much longer with it as it goes after ten days, I?ve even heard some people say they suddenly realised they?re walking around the ward and not in pain as soon as they get up. Your BP doesn?t sound that high, I?ve been around there and no one has ever questioned it and I?m at risk of clotting! There is a name for the BP being higher at the GP ? ah MS said the name, I couldn?t remember. It?s rather common, so much so that some surgeries have self-testing machines in the reception, as it will get a more accurate result. My ambulance trainer can only ever get one accurate reading as her BP rises afterwards so if they mess up it goes up each time, apparently she had a time when they weren?t able to get a reading on her and kept doing it, her husband had to tell them to stop. MrsY, do you think that could be your problem?

Littlesez, don?t worry about swearing on FB, our group is hidden so they won?t see it. The blocked nose is common during pregnancy, extra blood making vessels swollen. Fanjo is an MN saying, you?ve obviously never spoken about the right things elsewhere before!

Glad to see you?re home Ooogs! Shall we make our own exclusive club over on Postnatal yet?

MamaGoose, I know exactly what you mean! When you?ve been expecting to go early it makes the last weeks of pregnancy very long and having no end date makes it worse! Once I?d got past Tink?s birthday I would have been glad to have had Fifi out, I?m so glad it?s all over now.

America, Mum got me a nice nightshirt in Primark that buttons down the front, I think she paid £8 for it. Mothercare tend to have a lot of maternity nightwear, although it can be expensive.

We?ve not had Tink?s hair cut yet, I kept it pinned back until it was out of her eyes and now her fringe is almost shoulder length. TBD and my mum want me to get it cut but she has curly hair and I don?t think that it will suit being cut to one length and as it?s only just passed her shoulders I don?t think there?s enough for it to be styled. I think I?m going to get it done around her birthday to give her another six months of growth before we start messing with it. LBB I think boys look lovely with long hair; ignore those comments!

Catstar, hope your LO is feeling better soon, that sounds awful

Herb, I?ve noticed a lot of little boys would look cute as girls lol

O&U I can?t get over no more babies this late into January! We?re past when some of us are getting to 38 weeks so you?d be expecting more electives and inductions already. I?d have had a baby on this thread if I hadn?t already had one, as I was due on Monday for my elective, does that count?

MS, £7 for an induction? Bargain! I wonder though how many people can manage to eat 7

MOS Tiger Balm is available over here; they do a few different ones. Some chemists sell it and I think Hawkins do.

Kazza, leave it all to him, tell him it?s not good for you at the gestation you?re at

Ow I have Fifi in my dressing gown and am starting to get that tell tale tingle!

idontbelieveit · 23/01/2009 11:32

pluto i'm torn between relief at the elcs and disappointment at no chance to try for vbac, it's weird. My birth experience last time was extremely traumatic so although i can now say that i would agree that outcome is more important it took me about 18 months to get over the sadness and stop having flashbacks about my experience. Least it can't be any worse this time!

Hi tbm, glad things seem to be headed in the right direction.

dd calling, will be back later

Give me some shortbread to please pluto!

MrsY · 23/01/2009 11:45

America - go fo primark. I bought a couple of nighties (with spaghetti straps) that unbutton half way down, just for birthing and breastfeeding initially. They were £3 each!

TBM&F2 - yeah, it's white coat hypertension. I would suspect that, but it was higher with my nice midwife when I was calm than when I was at the DAU getting stressed!

KazzaL · 23/01/2009 11:48

does anyone have any ideas about how to get sticky stuff off walls? we had lots of little postcard size pics in clip frames on one the the walls in the old office/new nursery and we'd stuck them up with those sticky foam pads and the sticky layer won't come off the walls......

MrsY · 23/01/2009 11:49

Just seen the midwife and BP is 170 over 100, so yo ho ho, it's back to DAU we go!

And can I just say £10 to cut a two year old's hair - outrageous. Am glad FIL is a barber. He does John's hair, and no doubt will do madams's - he gives the kids a certificate with a lock of hair from their first haircut! I'm quite tempted for him to do mine!

McDreamy · 23/01/2009 11:50

Oh I don't feel well, bunged up to the eyeballs, coughing til I'm sick, have pulled muscles all over my bump and my scar hurts but at least I'm pre elcs and not post - now that would hurt!

Hope everyone is ok, forgive me not going into more details but just need to sleep I am feeling very sorrt for myself

MrsY · 23/01/2009 11:50

Kazzal - I've been told bluetack works? Don't know if that's true or not...

MrsY · 23/01/2009 11:52

cheer up, McDreamy - have some of pluto's elvish shortbread!

McDreamy · 23/01/2009 11:53

I think chocolate shortbread could make me feel alot better

KazzaL · 23/01/2009 11:56

thanks MrsY - now i just need to find some blutack

KazzaL · 23/01/2009 12:00

nope didn't work - going to try the electric sander now

dinkystinky · 23/01/2009 12:02

Hmm Pluto - chuck us over some of that chocolate shortbread too please! Wow - that is one good sized baby you have in you too for this stage - any chance you could get down to Somerfield and buy some of those pineapples MS was telling us about? I agree though with your Que Sera approach - speak to the consultant and see what they say, particularly in light of you being a potential VBAC-er.

McDreamy - my top tip from my evil coughing phase is stick a pad on (kept coughing so hard my pelvic floor kept giving out!) and eat lots of chocolate Hobnobs to keep your strength up hon.

KazzaL - maybe acetone (nail polish remover) may work? Though you'd probably have to repaint over that bit of the wall though...

MrsY - sorry you're back off to DAU Hope you've invested in lots of good reading material for the day

McDreamy · 23/01/2009 12:04

this is great I always have a bottle under my sink.
