chocolatebunnies nice to have you back... think i've worked out who and don't worry I won't mention any of your details from before...

llareggub · 22/01/2009 22:52

emmalineC Don't worry about your MATB1 certificate. My first job in HR was dealing with MATB1s and payroll type stuff and hardly anyone got them in on time. I guess work know you are pregnant etc? Just drop payroll a ring to let them know it is on it's way, and make sure they get it before the pay deadline in the month you start your maternity leave.

chocolatebunnies · 22/01/2009 22:54

Thanks for making me feel welcome back! Was a bit worried!

I really apreciate it FiKelly

I am sat in my PJ's watching Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (the newer one) is my favourite film and is making me feel all chripy which is good!

I went to Mothercare today and bought something called the miracle box its basically a massive ball, a dvd, and 3 workouts (during pregnancy, after pregnancy and advanced) looks really good, have blown the ball up and hava tried to sit on it, its not easy, nearly broke my bloody neck!! god knows how Im supposed to exercise on it!

I set up a thread earlier as I have a padded red freedom sling for sale (brand new) if anyones interested, let me know!

I'm really chuffed as all of the old clothes of DS that I listed on ebay (except 1 T-Shirt) that ended yesterday and today have sold! Yay They've just paid for all of the ebay girly baby clothes I've bought for #2 of course it means another post run tomorrow. Hope i'm as lucky with the stuff ending next week...

FiKelly · 22/01/2009 23:19

Right last invoice done so off to bed hopefully LO won't wake up and kick me so much when I try and get comfy! Night girls xoxox

LoobyLou36 · 23/01/2009 07:33

Hi chocbunny I have no idea who you are

Why are you selling the sling? I have been looking at them but have never used them as I am a first timer. They seem to be quite good? I could be interested. How much are you looking for?

Jennster · 23/01/2009 08:15

EmmalinaC I know what you mean about the chanting and stuff. I have the natal hypnotherapy cd. It was really good at first as I just fell asleep in it. Now I'm trying to concentrate on her voice, my mind is arguing with her. 'Hold on, if I'm walking down a soft path in open countryside, how can I hear wind in trees and actually see the leaves.' 'Ok so I'm concentrating on a particular blade of grass but you've got me walking down the path again. I can't see it now!' I swear it's good though. How often do you sit for 25 minutes and do absolutely nothing but breathe deeply.

Loubylou Im selling it because I dont think its right for me, it does look good though and seems good from the reviews etc but its just not suitable for me, I don't think I'll get proper use out of it with a toddler as well!
Im looking for £20 + £1 postage for it, I paid £27 for it a month or so ago, let me know if your still interested,

Welcome polony and chocolatebunnies

Jennster sorry to hear about your accident but glad you're recovering more quickly than expected.

I'm all excited today because I have a day off and it's all snowy outside and I don't have to go anywhere if I don't want to. I have a little lull in my project at work (though it's all going to kick off again next week) so I decided at the last minute to take a day off. I think I'd better use it to MN all day tidy out some drawers to make way for baby things. I started a baby spreadsheet yesterday

Re slings, I know I want one but no idea what to get... any ideas? I was thinking of starting off with one of the stretchy pouch type ones and see how I go.

Re nappies, I'm thinking about re-usables (again, totally confused by the choice!) but definitely want to start off with disposables while I get used to the baby. Will I be ok to switch when he's a month or so old, or do they get used to the comfort of disposables?

SpangleMaker · 23/01/2009 09:46

Paranoid first timer alert - I've noticed over the last 1-2 weeks my ankles - normally one of the few slim parts of me - are thickening out a little bit... also my rings are a bit tighter than normal. Is this just a completely normal pregnancy thing now I'm heading towards the 3rd trimester, or should I be concerned?

pulapula · 23/01/2009 10:25

Spanglemaker- I think it is just a general pg thing - I sometimes have to take my rings off towards the end with the swelling. Best thing is to keep your feet elevated when sitting, and also make sure you see your MW regularly and get your BP and urine checked at those visits. If you have any other symptoms (headaches, sickness) then best to speak to your MW.

llareggub · 23/01/2009 10:34

spangle AFAIK (from my own recent problems!) you should only worry if you also get headaches, flashing lights/spots in front of your eyes, high blood pressure and protein in your wee! Even so, I had all this and I was still fine.

I think swollen ankles are pretty normal in pregnancy, but I think you can help it by drinking more water and keeping your feet up as much as possible....so don't worry.

SpangleMaker · 23/01/2009 10:35

Thanks pulapula I thought it probably would be... I've heard about people needing bigger shoes etc. My BP has been normal throughout, it was last checked less than a fortnight ago and I'm at the hospital in 2 weeks, so I think that should be enough to keep an eye on things. I liked my slim ankles though

SpangleMaker · 23/01/2009 10:36

Thanks too llare BTW can you tell yourself if you have protein in your wee, or does it have to be checked with one of those test strip thingies?

llareggub · 23/01/2009 10:56

I don't know, I guess you might be able to buy them but it is one of the tests that the midwife does. Honestly, don't worry about it. You'd know if there was a problem.

My shoe size went up last time but went back down again after the birth, so don't worry!

pulapula · 23/01/2009 11:05

I am sitting here (at work) very anxious as my sister should have had her early pg scan at 10.30 (she texted me at 10 to say she was waiting nervously). She had a scare last week, with some spotting, but they did a pg test and said her levels were going up so not to worry (easier said than done after 4+ years TTC and a number of failed IVF attempts).

I hope she's ok....I might ring my mum in a bit as she will probably call her first.

EmmalinaC · 23/01/2009 11:17

Llare thanks for the advice re: MATB1. I work for a small business where no-one apart from me has ever had a baby so we don't really have a clue. They all know about it - I'm huge! Do you know, can I get a form from my consultant? (I have another appoinment next week).

Jenn that's what I like about yoga - an hour and a half lying around on cushions breathing and thinking about my bump. But my yoga teacher thinks Bio Oil is a deadly toxin - you can imagine what she thinks of epidurals...

MY DH has just called in a panic to say our two year old has just wee-ed all over our new sofa. The covers are dry cleanable but does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of the smell/bacteria where it's soaked in?

sausagenmash · 23/01/2009 11:29

Eeek - whats wrong with bio oil?

Blimey, my pregnancy yoga class this week was knackering - I was exhausted - lots of stretching and balancing and all sorts! Still, relaxation at the end was lovely - we even had lavender eye bags - bliss.

pulapula - any news yet?

Re: the protein wee things, spangle - I don't think you can tell just by looking at / smelling (!) your wee or anything - think the sticks are the way to go, I'm afraid. You can always tell when someone's had asparagus though - pooooh! (well, usually - doesn't work on some people)

EmmalinaC · 23/01/2009 11:45

Mineral oils, it seems, are the devil's work I don't know why. Does anyone?

SpangleMaker · 23/01/2009 11:45

Thanks for the reassurance girls

I was just wondering about the protein-in-wee thing because my cousin had PE a few years ago and I remember my mum telling me, 'it's a good thing she knew what to look out for & spotted the protein in her wee' But I couldn't imagine how you could tell by looking/smelling

Fingers crossed for your sister pulapula. How many weeks is she?

Emmalina no idea about the sofa but you could try starting a thread in the Good Housekeeping topic.

I'm of those of you who have pregancy yoga classes nearby. I must have a go of my DVD later.

llareggub · 23/01/2009 11:47

eemalineC no idea, I'm afraid! When I see my consultant I usually see a midwife first then the consultant, so it might be the same for you.

Small businesses can claim back the cost of paying you SMP, did they know?

pulapula · 23/01/2009 11:57

Sausagenmash- just called my mum and its good news- one healthy heartbeat! My sister is over the moon, and has another scan in 2 weeks time (9 weeks) before she is referred over to the NHS (think this is all part of her IVF treatment). My mum wants to tell everyone but i was still a bit cautious as i think it was sweetbroody who had a heartbeat on an early scan but then had a missed mc

llareggub · 23/01/2009 12:01

Brilliant news! A heartbeat is a very good sign.

SpangleMaker · 23/01/2009 13:42

pula that's great news! I read that seeing a heartbeat at 7w is a really good sign.

FiKelly · 23/01/2009 13:46

spangle i got horrendous swelling with DS last time and went up a shoe size... i had also put on a huge amount of weight which might not have helped it. I was healthy despite all this but very uncomfortable as it was the really hot summer of 2006. Right at the end of my pregnancy at my 38.5 wk midwife appointment I suddenly had 3+++ of protein in my urine as was rushed off to hospital by ambulance. None of us saw it coming as I'd had no other signs of pre-eclampsia at all... no headaches/blood pressure probs etc until that day and then I seemed to have the lot! So swelling isn't a problem on it's own.. many of my friends have swelled up and that's all it's been for the rest of their pregnancy. All you can do is keep going to your normal midwife appointments and if you feel anything more then get yourself in to see her for an extra wee test. If you do end up with pre-eclampsia like i did last time don't worry they'll whip you into hospital to monitor you and take it from there... I went in and the next thing i knew i would be coming home with DS in my arms at 39wks!

pulapula phew! what a relief for your sis. Great news

I'm just recovering from taking my mum to do her weekly food shop... absolutely worn out. It's getting harder and harder to push the trolley with DS in it & full load of shopping... didn't help that I woke up needing to pee at 1am last night and then couldn't get comfy to go back to sleep for ages.
