Thought I'd better start this soon.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
frazzledoldbag · 31/01/2009 08:45

ohdetsy hope you had a decent night and your little girl is feeling better now. I live in horror of us being struck by norovirus - it's just awful. Big sympathy hugs.
Good luck with the shopping - must admit I haven't really bought anything much - still feel secure that I have ages yet, but in reality it's not actually very long is it? Oh help. All this talk of buying is making my credit card twitch though.......I too love changing bags but got given a very smart one for Christmas by lovely SIL so have no excuse for looking anymore!
(By the way, quick note out of interest if you like an expensive one (as I did with last DD) - I bought a Petunia Pickle Bottom one new with tags on ebay, used it (very carefully so it was still in perfect condition) for 6 months then sold it on ebay for more than I'd originally paid for it! So it actually didn't turn out to be an extravagant purchase after all! Just a thought for all you fellow shopaholics......
Anyway off to bath the DD's now, go to Sainsburys and get on with the day. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

CoteDAzur · 31/01/2009 08:49

Auld - Thank you. I really appreciate it.

LoobyLou36 · 31/01/2009 11:10

morning ladies - i hope you are all feeling well.

I finally settled down in my jamas to watch jonathan ross and to mumsnet after my very good useful evening cleaning etc.

Then I had a phone call from my pissed up DH. "Can you come and pick me up I don't think I can walk home". Ended up slinging a jumper on and going into town at 11.30 to get him. He was so drunk it took me 5 mins to get him to put his seatbelt on!! Of course then he went to bed and snored all night!!

He has gone into town now to get his eyes tested. He has been squinting at the telly etc for the last year or so. Only reason he has finally agreed to go for a test is because I've got a free coupon AND booked it for him. MEN!!

Sorry rant over.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 31/01/2009 12:06

Morning all

I hope everyone is feeling ok and aches and pains are lessened. I'm suffering a bit after speding this morning stood on a freezing cold field watching DD1 play football (badly, bless her - I tell her she's fab though).

I have finally reached the blooming stage, judging by a few of the comments I got yesterday. I think it was more that I was wearing a maternity sack and people felt sorry for me.

I got another of the comments I hate, though, and it's always the bloody HR woman at work - everyone was eating caramel shortbread and going on about weight (HR woman lost lots of weight on Weightwatchers and most of her conversation is about food/weight/exercise and how much she does/eats/doesn't eat). She pointed at me and said "well, at least one person here can stuff her face and not worry about the weight she's put on". I would just like to point out that I was eating an apple, not shortbread.

This kind of comment really pisses me off.

A) It's incredibly rude
B) Erm yes, I do have to worry about weight, I can't diet it off at the moment/go on the treadmill for 3 hours every night
C) Why do people think that pregnant women have no feelings - the number of 'ooh you're huge' style comments you get are unreal....

Sorry lasses, rant over.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 31/01/2009 12:07

spending not speding

my hands are still cold

Momino · 31/01/2009 12:19

detsy, hopw little one feels better and you're getting rest.

Grumpy, grrr at that HR woman's comment... were you able to reply? One good thing about working from home... but then, I've got the dog looking at me with those taunting brown eyes as I reach for another caramel digestive .

off to hoover as well. 2 days in a row. dog fluff and porridge blobs on the floor aren't very attractive.

EmmalinaC · 31/01/2009 12:41

Ah Momino I sympathise. I've just spent most of the morning getting rid of dog fluff. How do they do it? We've got wodden floors downstairs and it billows round like tumbleweed.

Grumpy that was so rude of your HR woman. I har all those 'ooooooh you're HUGE' comments and feel incredibly self-conscious about my size. You're right that people assume that when you're pregnant it doesn't matter. I haven't had a single blooming comment yet and whenever I look in the mirror I am shocked by how old and tired I look

DH has just gone off to a football match and DD is (supposed to be) having her nap, so I think I might go and have one myself...

SpangleMaker · 31/01/2009 13:03

Detsy hope Lottie is getting better and that you managed to get some sleep.

Grumpy what a rude comment She is probably jealous because she spends every waking moment thinking about calories and weight, but she should still realise we pregnant women feel self-conscious about size even when it is in a good cause.

I've not had so many 'you're MASSIVE' comments (yet) but quite a few people - all men, unsurprisingly - have told me how, before they knew I was pg, they were going on to everyone about how I was filling out, obviously given up exercise etc. For some reason FIL tells me every time he sees me - grr!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 31/01/2009 15:08

The HR lady is tactless and rude and I think Spangle is right re the jealousy, she does seem to spend every waking moment obsessing about food. That is, when she's not telling people she never wants kids and hates kids and thinks everything about pregnancy is 'ewwwww', then grilling me about being pregnant. I think she just is a 'think before you speak' person. Ooh, I am still ranting, aren't I?!

I should say something, but have rather stupidly taken the muttering under my breath/ignoring route. Stupid really, as I do find it upsetting. I'm none too cofident about the way I look anyway and I am really self-conscious at the moment (thanks in part to the 'My God, have you got twins in there?" type comments).

Anyway, on to dog hair (aaaaaaargh!) - it's unbelievable. Our vacuum can be filled with the stuff by just one really thorough going-over. Probably not helped by dog doing what she's doing now - scratting away and kicking out loads of hair.

So, out comes the hoover again (at least no crusts this time).

Anyway, my problems are miniscule in comparison to others here - everyone has lots of sympathy from me and I hope everyone is having a lovely (and restful) weekend.

alapala · 31/01/2009 15:17

OH DEAR. Yesterday in the shop a Lindt chocolate slab (with almonds) jumped into my basket and now I seem to have eaten it ALL. Was going to blame visiting SIL, but she's allergic to nuts..

Momino · 31/01/2009 16:05

ok, here I am, mug of hot water with lemon [all give moomino a pat on the back for such a healthy, caffeine free drink] ready to call pregnant women to tell them all the antenatal classes for their due date are already full for Aug/sep babies ... but i forgot my bowl of rice pudding with extra cream and raisins [everyone quickly withdraws the back-patting].

big sigh.

I'll have to trudge all the way downstairs (our kitchen is so far away, ahem) with a halo over my head for the sacrifice of extra energy spent.

now just to ignore the new tumbleweed balls of border collie fur which have accumulated.

another big sigh.

Hi everyone. I'm sitting here with my own cup of caffeine free tea (Rooibos) as I'm parched after a busy shift, sweating in my new SPD support thingy and it's heaven . I Have been working late and then early and sooo much has been said in the meantime, so here's my response to some of the things discussed, albeit a little on the late side .
Just want to say jael: you'll need to check with your hospital about formula. The 2 hospitals where I work provide formula as they didn't have any facilities for preparing/sterilising bottles. But I know of other hospitals where women are expected to bring in there own.
cote A lot of hospitals in the UK have a perinatal/women's mental health or counseler attached to their unit and social services would not be informed if someone had anxiety or similar problems. The only time SS would be informed is if it's clear that the mental health problems of a woman affects her ability to care for her baby and even then it would be only to provide support, rather than to take the baby away. So I'd advice anyone to get in touch with the services that are there if they need them and not to avoid because they're afraid SS would take away the baby.

Dandy, sounds like you've got a lovely understanding consultant. It's so nice to hear someone is really listening to you. Hope you'll have a better time this time. Have you tried the hypnotherapy CD's? They're really good.

I'm using the natal hypnotherapy CD's. I went to a workshop once and Maggie Howell was brilliant. I tried her free CD (just general relaxation and stress management) that we got that day and it really helped me get through my training. So I'm a big fan ever since. I bought the conception and the pregnancy relaxation, both of which I've yet to hear the end, because I keep falling asleep. I suppose I get a bit too relaxed . Shows it's working though.

Dandy

My God, what an awful time you've had and how un-selfpitying you are! Your consultant sounds like an absolute diamond - she is definitely a keeper!! I will most definitely have everything crossed for you.

Momino - bloody border collies and their gorgeous, shiny, weatherproof coats. By the by, is yours ALWAYS ravenous??? Our Beebee could eat all day without stopping if she was allowed. She's such an urchin.

Not sure what to have for tea tonight, takeaway maybe, but not Teesside's favourite. Ladies, I give you THE PARMO. Feel free to be violently ill.

Belgianchocolates · 31/01/2009 17:47

Dandy, I think you're going into it with the right attitude. Good luck for May .
Dinner time for us now.

Jael · 31/01/2009 19:18

Just popping in before dinner to say sorry for ranting yesterday. I've just got so many worries about this birth. And your probably right, I should have spoken up more last time, and maybe got help about how distressing my labour/aftercare etc was. I think it's too late for that now though. It was 3 years ago, it never goes away, it's mentally scarred me, and that's why I'm so frightened for this time...

On the subject of panic atacks, I'm booked in to go to an anxiety support group. It's only took my doctors surgery 6 months 2 sort out! And I still haven't got a start date. Apparently it's a 14 week course, so I'm gonna end up missing the last few weeks now, with baby being born.

Detsy I'm having this baby at Stafford Hospital. Don't think I know where Leighton is lol not very good with places.

Sorry again ladies XXX

FiKelly · 31/01/2009 19:23

detsy so to hear you little dd has the noro. Awful for any of us but I really hate it when my dc is ill. Hope she's feeling bit better v soon.

grumpy i'm with you on the tactless comments... the lady in the post office said to me "you've not long to go" I said actually mid may... she then announced oh my you're going to be huge! Grrrr I'm actually way tinier than i was with ds as i've no swelling yet and not had the chocoholic cravings I had last time which piled on the weight. So it doesn't matter what size you are it seems

dandy your consultant & midwife sound real gems. I'm sure the BF will go easier for you esp with some added help and encouragement.

I was supposed to meet our consultant at our 20wk scan but one of the general docs saw us instead for some reason. I prob won't get to meet him till my 36wk appointment & apparently he's quite eccentric! I'm still torn about what to do after our nightmare birth last time & will need some breastfeeding help too as I didn't manage it but that was only due to milk supply and inverted nipple problems so not nearly as scary... going to give it another go though.

FiKelly · 31/01/2009 20:05

BTW I'm absolutely stuffed full... my leisurely lunch out with 2 pregnant friends and no kids was a real real treat. But feeling very stretched full as the food was so delicious I ate too much

1 friend has only 5wks till her due date and the other is due 23rd May.... we got lots of attention from the italian waiters and had a chance to have a really good natter for a change so all in all a great time.

1st thing this morning we put our flat officially back on the market.... we're doing a sale seeker with persimmon homes as they'll try really hard to sell your home for 6wks (at a really competitive price) and hold the new house plot you're after with a fully refundable £150 deposit. So everyone keep everything crossed we get loads of viewings, an offer and are moved before this LO comes. Going to need all the luck we can get.

detsy · 31/01/2009 20:47

dandy I've got the nct cds with Maggie Howell and I think they are fab and well worth the money. The only thing i want to do differently is ensure that my birth partners (mum and DP) are clued up to the cds this time as I tended to forget in throes of labour and it would have been good if one of them could have given me some cues to get me back on track! May be good for you too Jael ? Oh Leighton is in Crewe BTW!!

DD is on the mend only 2 terrible nappies today and she actually ate some tea some am a much happier mummy. We managed to get out and buy first shoes which she is really really proud of and looked at her feet, shouting "shoes" all afternoon

Also managed to track down an icandy pear and have decided that it is the pram for us come May. I was going to wait to see if we could manage with a sling and the Bee BUT there are no icandy pears in the country at the moment and there is a 6 - 8 week leadtime so if we can't manage (and I don't think its a very realistic plan TBH) so I think I'm going to order one.... They also seem to hold their resale value very well so my bank cards are a twitching....

And I just wanted to say regards the state of hospital bathrooms etc - what type of woman leaves a toilet/bathroom in the states that were being described?? YUK YUK! I was very lucky and had no such problem - there were cleaning and disinfectant products in all the bathrooms and all were in a pretty good state.

Off to seek chocolate and see if there is any retail to be had on line...

detsy · 31/01/2009 20:50

And sorry how rude of me - thanks to all for the sympathy and hugs for sick little one too x
