Hi Everyone,

Reggiee and EmmalinaC as I had an elective first time round I completely understand that you may have lots of reasons for wanting one this time round. But...nobody can make you have continuous monitoring, you can refuse, and I still will if it turns out that I can have a vbac. I have two friends who have had home water births in the last couple of months after sections (one had had an elective first time round and the other an emergency). Many (but by no means all) consultants will tell you you 'have' to be continuously monitored but I was told by my midwife that if I agreed to an initial 30 mins monitoring they would be perfectly happy to take it off me and just monitor intermittantly.

As I say, I totally understand there are lots of reasons for having an elective but it drives me mad that doctors will tell you what you 'have' to do, whereas in reality its your decision to make. You have a good chance of a vbac if you are allowed to labour freely in a way which makes you feel comfortable (mentally as much as physically) and in control. Sorry - rant over!

In general I am really that so many of us seem to have had unhappy experiences with previous births. I really hope that we all have much better times this time round. At least it hasn't put any of us off I suppose!

Momino - my hip is agony today, yours any better?

We failed to sell our house last year so we have decided to take it off the market and tomorrow we have to take out all the stuff we 'tidied' away into storage and some how squeeze it back into the house. Groan. I can feel a pregnancy-related excuse coming on already. I'm too tired/weak/delicate/enormous...

Hope your weekends are looking more promising.

bekkaboo · 30/01/2009 22:33

this baby is much more active than DS but still dont feel the movements on the outside, do you think its because placenter on frnt this time?

llareggub · 30/01/2009 22:38

Hi all

We've had a nightmare evening again. DS would NOT go to bed and I'm starting to wonder where it has all gone wrong. He used to be such a good sleeper up to about 2 weeks ago. Now he won't stay in bed and it takes hours of going up and downstairs to get him off to sleep. We had to resort to the old "driving aimlessly around in the car" trick this evening! I don't know whether DS has twigged that the baby in mummy's tummy is going to be a permanent fixture, because this sleep problem corresponds with him wanting to be held "like a baby." He is even breastfeeding like he did as a baby, by lying across my lap instead of his usual acrobatics. All very odd.

I'm quite pleased about my elective c-section, to be honest. I guess it is because I've been there before so know what to expect.

To all those who are peckish, I've found I am really hungry before bed so usually have cheese and crackers. I don't think I could go all evening and night without eating otherwise!

FiKelly · 30/01/2009 22:41

rek about your hip. we're all full of aches and pains at the mo it seems.

bekkaboo it could be... the placenta would be cushioning quite a lot of it i expect...

bekkaboo · 30/01/2009 22:44

llaregubb snap thats what im just tucking into! with 6 pickled onions, yum yum

with regards to DS snap too! ALthough fingers crossed last 2 nights have been better, I too put this down to baby but TBH think its just a phase as he would be up at 4 every AM and not go back sleep without one of us, seems ok ish now so ma & pa are much happier

FiKelly · 30/01/2009 22:51

DS was ropey sleep wise at the beginning of the week but i think it had more to do with us switching him into his big bed & out of his cot... I am having to watch the length of time he naps (if any these days) in the pm or he won't go to sleep at his usual 7pm.

I ordered a baby annabel off mailorderexpress on wednesday am and it arrived today. I'm hoping it will help with the we're having another baby bit. It drinks from a bottle, cries.. even tears, likes to be sung to, giggles and sucks a dummy etc DH finds it a bit spooky though.

pulapula · 30/01/2009 22:53

llareggub,

How old is your DS? I can't remember if it was you or someone else who has just moved DS into a bed.

DD went through a phase of being tricky at bedtime (I need a wee/milk/book/poo) and in the end, we just found that being strict was the only way. No conversation, back to bed, tucked in with her "babies". Does DS still nap in the day- if so you may need to cut it short, which i think is what we also did (although she would be grumpy at being woken early).

Hope you sort it out soon though, as driving round of an evening won't be much fun when there is a newborn to look after too, although maybe you could get them both to sleep that way

FiKelly · 30/01/2009 22:54

did wrong link right one

bekkaboo · 30/01/2009 22:58

has anyone else noticed swollen ankles yet? ive just spotted a sock line and white ankles... I had major swelling last time and was hoping it wouldnt return this time

LoobyLou36 · 30/01/2009 22:59

Evening ladies.

Re: aches and pains. I keep getting alternate shooting pains and dean leg down my right side at odd times.Does this sound like sciatica? Really odd.
I've been on my feet alot at work today and have noticed my ankles swelling up quite alot. I thought this didn't happen till later in pregnancy?

Was looking at the calendar today and can't believe its all gonna happen in 13 weeks.

DH went out on the lash with a friend of his tonight so after dropping him off in town I spent 2 hours cleaning/washing/drying/folding clothes etc, then have spent the last hour packing up ebay stuff I've sold. God what an exciting life I lead.

FiKelly · 30/01/2009 22:59

a few people have mentioned swollen ankles over the last wk or 2. Touch wood so far so good for me... but my socks are old and saggy

llareggub · 30/01/2009 23:00

pulapula DS is 2.3 and has been in a bed since he was 12 months. He has also been bit of a super sleeper, as since he went into his bed he has stayed put from 7.30pm until 6am! He naps for about 2 hours a day but gets really, really grumpy if he has less than that. I had thought about occupying so he misses the nap but last time we did that he fell asleep at 5pm and slept through until 2am, when he was bouncing off the walls!

He has also developed bit of a stubborn personality lately. I wonder if it is the terrible twos. We have always taken the strict approach that you use. Tonight however, having exhausted the walking up and downstairs being strict, we tried bribery, breastfeeding, and then finally the car thing! We haven't done that for a long, long time.

FiKelly · 30/01/2009 23:02

looby lol! That was my day today. Except this evening I've been buying more on ebay in between listing more stuff.

Its good to know its not just me with the ankles, last time the swelling started about 20 weeks and just got worse, im hoping I dont get carpel tunnell back as that was unbearable last time and for few months after birth.

Momino · 30/01/2009 23:12

should I change my name to mooooomino then?

about eating, I seem to be eating mindlessly: a few caramel digestives at a time, bowl of crisps, eating with DDs at 6pm then again with DH at 9pm .... and now a big bowl of rice pud. but i don't even think 'I'm hungry', I just eat because 1) it's there, 2) I'm bored, 3) sometimes I'm hungry.

my bump does look huge. I've just seen a friend who's 6 weeks ahead of me and her bump is half my size - I'm almost embarrassed when I'm seen with her, people try to hide their surprise when they find out she's due so much earlier than me.

well, we all carry differently, don't we [I say convincingly]?

Momino · 30/01/2009 23:18

Rek, my hips are a bit better. I'm consciously picking up my 3 year old less which may help. Anyway, I'm going to mention to MW at my next check 13/2.

About moving your things back in the house, use your hips as an excuse as well: you shouldn't be doing any manual labour .

FiKelly · 30/01/2009 23:19

bekkaboo... i got carpal tunnel last time too. I've still got the splints but really hoping to not need them this time.

Momino I'm seeing a friend tomorrow who's due date is one week after me and she's just tiny... well she was last time we were comparing bumps early dec. I'll report back how we compare this time!

Momino · 30/01/2009 23:25

sorry, I'm answering post by post separately. Just waiting for DH to bring my bowl of rice pud.
Dandy, you've been through so much - 56 hour labour, echoing your , not to mention overcoming ovarian cancer. I hope this labour/birth goes well for you; you've done well to establish your MW care.

FiKelly · 30/01/2009 23:47

Just realised what the time is... off to make a snack and have some hot chocolate and then to bed Night night all xoxox

Jennster · 30/01/2009 23:47

Very late.

Goodnight

Ovarian cancer dandy
I must have missed that post.....how did you find out you had it ? (sorry to be nosy but I have a huge fear of this as my mother died of it quite young and I've been told I can't be tested for it?)
Sorry to hijak the thread.

frazzledoldbag · 31/01/2009 00:07

Oh dur, just saw your post dandy. You must have been very young when that was discovered. I trust you are all well and recovered now?
Good luck with the VBAC - your consultant sounds pretty supportive. And I couldn't agree more with your comment about needing to be in charge and managing your own care as much as possible.
Anyway off to bed in a mo.

Hi all, I've decided i must have been oh so bad in a previous life. DD has had the dreaded norovirus so one whle night of throwing up and so far two days/nights of diarrohea. Only mummy will do as is often the case when poorly so I'm like the walking dead. She's been in bed since 7 till 10 then one exploding nappy later and had to bring her down for cuddles. DP trying to settle her now - poor little bunny.

Need to research all the changing bag links - have a bit of a thing for changing bags..

Think am decided on the icandy pear but can' t find one to push round a shop, demo etc anywhere! Purchasing a wrappy sling this weekend as well as DD's first shoes (so exciting!)

Jael have you thought about getting some therapy for your fears - sounds like you had a bad experience and would be good to get yourself calmer before May. I used to suffer really badly with panic attacks (claustrophobia when flying) and had some CBT cognitive behavioural therapy - absolutely amazing and puts you back in control of your head and actions and back into a very positive, happy and upbeat frame of mind, could be worth a try

You're quite local (ish) to me - where are you having your baby? I'm booked in at Leighton.

Its all very quiet upstairs, I'm going to try and get a few hours sleep!! xx

AuldAlliance · 31/01/2009 07:52

Excuse me, ladies, just popping over from the April thread to give CoteDAzur a message:

I've not forgotten you, Côte. The MW here didn't know of anyone in your area, but promised to try and find out. I'm now trying to get in touch with a friend's sister, one of few MW's who does home deliveries in the Vaucluse, to see if she has any contacts round your way.

Hope you're OK. If I can help out in any way, give me a shout.
