Detsy - sorry you had such a scare and hope that you are feeling much better and less scared now.

Chocolatebunnies, I am getting those very low kicks and my babies are breech at the last scan, but even with twins the sonographer said there was plenty of time for them to move around. They do seem to be moving around a lot - the way I'm carrying seems to change every few days, with some positions being much more comfortable (for me!) than others!

Momino - I bought yumyums this week - delicious!

COngrats Moonlit on joining us in the pink team

llareggub - I know the feeling and I don't even have a DC at home! Glad you have stayed home and got some medical advice too. The lurgy I'd been fighting off for weeks caught up with me last week when I was on holiday from work and I was really sick for most of the week. Then, got back home on Saturday and woke up Sunday with worst toothache EVER. Luckily for me DH knows a dentist from his hockey team and I was so desperate that I had no shame and rang him in the evening and begged for a consult so glad I did as he gave me some antibiotics and despite my intention of taking nothing during pregnancy, I decided that crying with pain was hardly helping me or the babies stay well and thrive and took them - now feel human again. Anyway, my point is that it's really important to be selfish and rest when you need it - keeping going could result in getting worse and no-one is going to remember that you were sick 3 weeks before mat leave.

Looby, what an awful position to be in. I am inclined with agree with llareggub that you might want to formalise it now - that's a long time to go without being paid.

Momino · 26/01/2009 14:37

hi all. lots going on here this morning!
Sorry for all you who aren't feeling well or wrote about grumpy/difficult days - hope it's getting better.

Emmalina, I don't know what the chances are but did know a few people who had babies at 28-30 weeks and all well after they had good care. Poor friend, I hope she's ok.

Looby, that sounds terrible aboutyour wages and hope it gets sorted out, it's not as if this isn't the time when you really need the cash!

my hips are a little better today. i notice it's worse when I pick DDs up and try to walk. Could this be related to sciatica (don't really know what sciatica is let alone spell/pronounce it!). I just hope it doesn't get worse...

pulapula · 26/01/2009 14:38

Emmalina- 28/29 weeks is much better than 24/25 weeks and i think the baby will have very good survival chances especially if it is larger than average. A quick google search suggests it could be as high as 90% and definitely more than 50:50. Fingers crossed that the LO is a fighter and that they can keep baby inside and well as long as possible.

EmmalinaC · 26/01/2009 15:32

Thanks for reassurances, everyone. I didn't feel that I could ask her what might happen if the baby came early. Am going to visit her on Thursday, all being well, and hopefully she will know more by then.

SpangleMaker · 26/01/2009 16:13

Emmalina sorry to hear about your friend. There's a recent thread here about someone whose waters went at 22+4 , ended up carrying the baby for a few more weeks - looks like babe is doing well.

Jael · 26/01/2009 18:45

Hello everyone! I'm finally back! We've been computerless for 6 weeks, and I've missed Mumsnet so much! Hope everyones ok. We've got a very hectic few weeks ahead of us, were moving house in 2 weeks aghh madness. I've only managed to catch up on this thread, couldn't scroll through over 1000 msgs on the other threads at the mo, I will do if I have time though XX

Jael XX

pulapula · 26/01/2009 19:38

Welcome back Jael- can't imagine 6 weeks without a PC! I am on my laptop every day much to DHs annoyance!

I was chatting to a mum at playgroup today who had a 3 month old who has recently been diagnosed with Albinism and it looks like she is severely visually impaired- there is no corrective surgery . When she was born, everyone mentioned her white-blond hair which was very unusual. I didn't make the connection and I don't think her parents did too. So the mum is busy at the eye hospital, and with a dermatologist to determine the severity of her condition. It's very rare apparently (around 1 in 13000) so in our city, there might only be 1 birth per year. I know if it was me, I would be thinking "why me" and i feel lucky to have 2 healthy children and i hope this LO is OK too. You just never know. Don't mean to depress anyone, sorry.

llareggub · 26/01/2009 20:44

I knew 2 brothers who both had albinism. They were also very short, but were the best skiers I've ever met. They were also visually impaired, but to varying degrees of severity.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 26/01/2009 21:05

llareggub

Muchos sympthy for the way you're feeling, I kind of get where you're coming from

I've had a cold/flu/tonsilitis/you name it for the past few months and I'm hardly ever ill, being of sturdy Northern stock. I struggle to get to sleep because of the following:

SPD pains
Baby kicking me up high/down low
Bizarre leg rashes of unbelievable itchiness
Itchy bump
Sore throat/snot/coughing
General inability to get comfy because I can't sleep on my back
Restless legs causing Michael Flatley style Riverdancing

and if one more person at work either laughs at the way I shuffle and waddle, due to SPD killing me and only painkillers available are paracetamol (what's the bloody point?), or does an impression of me struggling to get up gracefully from my chair or looks at my bump and says (disapprovingly, or am I just being hyper-sensitive?) 'My God, you must have twins in there' or 'Christ, you're big', ie. 'My God, you're a big fat cow!!' I will commit workicide.

I am truly living up to my MN name, I snapped at my mum yesterday and banged the phone down on her, because I thought she was criticising my parenting , luckily my mum is an utter saint.

I think it's the fact that we've all been pregnant for what feels like forever, but we still have forever to go and all the little niggles kick in now.

Sorry everyone, I have had a truly shite couple of days........

llareggub · 26/01/2009 21:21

lol (sorry)

I have all that too, but thankfully no SPD this time.

I'm really hoping the antibiotics will help. Look after yourself grumpy!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 26/01/2009 21:33

Same to you too . Sorry I hijacked and went 'me me me me me me me pay attention to meeeeeeeeee', even at nearly 36 I'm not very grown up!!!!!!!!

I feel better now, soothed by a cup of redbush tea and a cuddle from DH (who is also a saint a lot of the time).

DD2, who is 4, made me laugh a lot earlier when she told me that having a 'bogey nose' was doing her nut in (in a comedy cockerneeee voice). I chuckled all the way back from School's Out.

I hope the antibiotics kick in and you feel better soon..........

EmmalinaC · 26/01/2009 22:07

Grumpy sounds like you have plenty of good reasons for living up to your name! I had SPD last pg and I know it's miserable.

I'd like to add heartburn to the list of things to moan about. I currently have three bottles of Gaviscon on the go... One by the bed, one by the fridge and one on my desk and I'm still suffering!

Welcome back Jael!

detsy · 26/01/2009 22:14

Ah grumpy you have sooo cheered me up
and you too llare - whilst its not good that you're poorly and feel sh1te, I am rather glad that I am not solo!! Today, lying in bed starkers with windows wide open and sweat pouring (literally) off me, i thought this cannot be right!!

My doctors are stumped, seems there was no bacteria in my wee sample so all a big miserable mystery. They gave me some antibiotics but looked them up when i got home and it says - NO GOOD REPORTS ON USE IN PREGNANCY - use only in extreme cases when no other options exist...... Binned them.

I feel so so so guilty about work - not worked for 2 weeks now ( knackered after Dubai) then lurgy kicked in last week and stil crap this week (week 3 OMG). Never realised 2nd+ pregnancies were so much harder with littles at home

I was seriously considering becoming a lesbian earlier when i asked my DP to help change the bed.... i tried really bloody hard to be patient (no really i did) But standing looking at the bedding on the floor is NOT going to get the job done. Its not exactly rocket science is it?? So does anyone have an attractive gay mate, looking for a ready made family (1.5 kids at mo....)???!!?

Baby keeps getting either head or bum wedged under my left ribs and it hurts a lot. Despite gentle coercing to move, he/she seems quite happy wedged in there - thankyou

Am off to buy soemthing on line to cheer myself up!
x

llareggub · 26/01/2009 22:55

I feel really guilty about not working too. I realised today that I haven't completed a full week since before christmas, and I only do 2 and a half days a week! To be honest I'm starting to think that I won't be able to go back at all this side of my maternity leave.

Today, for example, I pottered around cleaning the kitchen, then slept between 2 and 4pm when DS came back from the PIL. I get exhausted in the afternoon, and it really doesn't help that DS isn't sleeping well at the moment.

Maybe if I manage to shift this lurgy it'll be OK, but roll on 18th Feb and my official last day!

Detsy, grumpy, hope you feel better soon.

pulapula · 26/01/2009 23:13

You shouldn't feel guilty about not working everyone- apart from all of the pg-related things that make u feel rubbish and tired, i'm sure there's something about being more likely to pick things up (lower immunity?) and the fact you can't take medicines to make you feel better as they can't do clinical trials on pg women to test whether the drugs are safe or not.

I seem to have missed all the bugs going round work, but colleagues have taken time off so if i do get something, i wont feel bad about taking time off.

Momino · 26/01/2009 23:41

grumpy, you're post did make me smile though I don't want you to think I'm laughing at you .

Emmalina, i've got heartburn too but not sure what remedy is working. Tried peppermint tea which made it worse, Gaviscon doesn't seem to help, pepp chewing gum seems to help a little but I need to buy some.

Jael, welcome back and hope you are well.

what am I still doing awake ?

FiKelly · 27/01/2009 07:33

grumpy i know how you feel.. have had days when it's all gone to pot. couldn't help smiling seeing it all back to back in black and white though

been awake since 4am with.. 1. baby gymnastics 2. then getting hungry 3. needing to pee 4. ds waking for a short while and waiting to see if he settled again.. which he did and lastly 5. dog needing out to garden to pee & other in pitch darkness. gonna be so very tired later i expect

FiKelly · 27/01/2009 07:57

thankfully i've no spd though.. my piles are causing me major probs.. germaloids not fixed them yet. getting v v uncomfortable esp when not been able to poo for few days as they're getting in the way.. sorry maybe TMI!

FiKelly · 27/01/2009 09:28

off to playgroup.. ds will hopefully tire himself out a bit.. and let me rest with a hot cuppa

llareggub · 27/01/2009 10:48

fikelly ouch! I've not experienced piles, but they don't sound pleasant at all.

How is everyone feeling today? DS has gone off to his childminder today so I have a couple of hours free this morning. I plan on having a snooze and a nice sit down. I still feel a bit rubbish and I've just realised I've forgotten to put the bread on so now I've no bread for lunch. Ho hum.

Jael · 27/01/2009 11:08

Morning ladies. I had SPD confirmed early on in pregnancy and was in a hell of alot of pain, went to physio and everything. Bought a support band to wear etc thankfully, an d surprisingly, I've had no SPD pains since just before christmas, it just seems to have vanished. I neverf had it in my last pregnancvy, so thought it was strange that it would go just like that...you wait, it'll be back with a vengence now.

Heatburn I too am a heatburn an d indigestion sufferer, I've managed to get my docs to put it on repeat prescription for me, as I'm getting through their giant bottle, in 2-3 weeks!

Piles I had one appear after the birth of my daughter who's 3 and it's been there ever since, it's only flared up this pregnancy. Anusol i find is thed only thing that works, I've put it on religiously before bed for thyde lsst 2-3 weeks and my "pile" is tiny again, and not painful at all. I'd got to the stage where even sitting on the sofa had me in agony so I know how you feel!

Jael X

llareggub · 27/01/2009 11:10

Weirdly, I had terrible heartburn in my last pregnancy, but have been fine (touch wood) this time. Isn't that odd?
