SES about spread sheet. You'll now have to do one calculating how much time you could have saved by tidying up if you had not done one . Enjoy your days off - sounds fun .
Oh can someone inspire me about boy's clothes?? Where's the best place to buy?? And how will I know what to do with boy's 'bits' etc when changing a nappy? Is it an urban myth about them weeing in your face when you change them??

2beautifulgalsandasnowglobe · 29/01/2009 12:09

Hello everyone.

Diege i am still smiling from your news, so happy for you. You make me want to go and find out now! I don't know much about soft markers to be honest, but if the consultants were confident enough to say nothing to worry about then i'm sure the experts are correct. But understand still worrying for you.

Glask- Go for the name you love the most or even wait until DD2 is born then when you see her you might say yes she is definately a ruby/sophie. The DC's will adjust.

Ses i had a little chuckle on your spreadsheet, you definaetly sound like a pregnanat woman with a mission! Hope you have fun today with your friend and cleaning!!!

Moos- where are you? Have you tested?

Astarte- anymore show was laughing about your DH saying he had a busy week next week. Like you can control when the babe decides to arrive!

Lbot- what american website do you use? Trying to get involved in more american things before we move so not so much of a shock. Think the kids use more american words than me from watching nickeloden. DD2 says flashlight instead of torch already.

Hi everyone else.

Feeling big today getting uncomfortable already and i'm only 24 weeks, oh so looking forward to the road ahead The baby decides it is party time at night, literally and DH thinks its great he comes to bed when i'm asleep and puts his hand on my tummy when baby kicks he pokes back and plays football with it waking me up! Men.

2beautifulgalsandasnowglobe · 29/01/2009 12:12

the best tip i was given by my aunty who has two boys is to always have cotton wool with baby lotion on for when you take the nappy off. Put the cotton wool on the willy as soon as nappy is off then they wee into that instead of over your shoulder! Not sure how it works.

Boys clothes, i'm sure others will know better than me!

Diege · 29/01/2009 12:41

Hi 2bg! Your baby sounds nice and active!! That's a good tip about the cotton wool - presume the baby lotion is to weigh it down??
ASTSARTE, just pieceing together that you must have had a show?? . Oh my goodness seems like I might be in for a syndicate chance if things progress!!
Am now on my second lasagne . Am sooo hungry today, probably after last few days worry-induced lack of appetite!

Astarte · 29/01/2009 12:52

2BG I think he was just having a bit of a blank moment. He has done something similar with all of them. Must admit even he's left it close to start thinking that a baby might actually arrive soon

Glask I would ask the other children what they think she should be called and then you could wait until she is born and see what she looks like.
If your other kids decide she should be called "Noddy" as mine did with Ds2, then you write the names down on bits of paper (obv only Sophie or Ruby, not any of their choices) and put them in a hat, pick one.
Ta da! Baby named & the kids will feel like they took part and will accept the name

Had some stronger BH but only the odd one here and there. No more show yet.

Yeeeesssss! where is ohsnap?

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 29/01/2009 12:57

LOL Ses, fellow spreadsheet geek coming out of the closet here

We (thats me really) have spreadies for names (so I can put different combinations of names in!) list of items for nursery and hospital bags etc, not to mention how much we are spending (though im not so good at mainintaing that one

Hurray for another wagon spreadsheet friend

Diege- lol at wondering what to do with boys bits... have thought the same myself.. bet that isnt a topic at the NCT classes

Hi 2BG

lastboxoftampons · 29/01/2009 12:59

2BG the site is really specific to the area that I grew up in (Long Island, NY), so I'm not sure it'd be relevant, although there may be an equivalent for your new local area. You might want to give www.thenest.com a try - it's run by the same people who do theknot.com, which is a wedding website. THe thing I've found about chatboards from other countries is that it might be hard to "break in" at first. I found myself slightly put off by not knowing the slang and things seemed really different at first. I think I had to give even MN lots of tries before I felt comfortable on here. One other site to try out is www.diveintoamerica.com It's a British expat website (the opposite equivalent is uk-yankee.com) and there's a helpful forum on there. Good luck!

Ses LOL at your spreadsheet!!!

Diege I'm not sure I'd knwo what to do with a girl nappy! All of my cousins and the majority of babies I looked after as a teenager were all boys! They do sometimes pee on you, but I found it best to cover up the willy with the front of the diaper when you're looking for supplies, getting out wipes, etc. It's usually the initial removal of the nappy and thus the shocking change in temperature that makes them go, you're usually safer after that, although I suppose it can happen at any time. I think I actually find it easier than girls as there are not so many cracks and crevices...!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 29/01/2009 12:59

ooh Astarte- its all happening for you. Might have to update my guess on the list....

Though Im wondering if LB might sneakily beat you to it and give birth first

Just recieved some nursing vests from Everyday Maternity, nice and long and i thought perfect for first few weeks to wear under clothes and at night etc. Most amused that the support bit inside has peek-a-boo type holes at the front.

Astarte · 29/01/2009 13:00

Diege I knew I'd forgotten something....the wee'ing thing.

They wee everywhere, that's what muslins are for. Open up his nappy and if not tons of poo, put muslin over his bits whilst you clean his bum. Is it sinking in yet

They will wee over their own shoulder and in their faces if left uncovered.

When you put the clean nappy on, you have to make sure his penis is pointing down, otherwise he'll wee straight up out of the nappy and you'll be wondering why his armpit is soaking wet!!
We discovered this the embarrassing way, it took a couple of days of wet armpits before we asked the m/w and she pointed out our mistake

kayzr · 29/01/2009 13:03

Diege, I have never ever been wee'd on by either of my boys. I make sure I have everything ready next to me so I don't have to look for stuff when they have their nappies off.

kayzr · 29/01/2009 13:09

OMG!!!!!!!!

Have you seen that advert where the girl runs through her dads legs and then the boy tries it and headbutts him in the bits???

Freddie has just done it to DH!!!! I know I shouldn't laugh but DH laughed so it can't be that bad.

Astarte · 29/01/2009 13:09

I think ohsnap is on cd5.

Diege · 29/01/2009 13:13

LOL GYO, I think you gave yourself away there by mention of 'spreadies'

Thanks for boy advice ASTARTE - sounds quite daunting, and I wouldn't have thought of putting willy downwards in nappy . Have to admit to feeling a bit squeamish about it all, which I know I will quickly get over...very juvenile I know but feels odd to think that I have a willy in my tummy (someone please give me a slap)

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 29/01/2009 13:22

Just about to go for (late) lunch...
Had to check in again - MN addict and Spreadie addict

Diege - LOL at "willy in my tummy" SLAP!!!

LBOT - thank you so much for the info on that shop in Winchester. They stock both buggies I'm interested in - I'coo Targo 3in1 and Britax Vigour 4+ so I have emailed them to make sure that both are in stock before I go off round the country!!

kayzr · 29/01/2009 13:30

Ses, I did a spreadsheet thing of chores the other day too. I think we need to be tidier, so I am hoping that it will help us.

Starshinetiger · 29/01/2009 13:40

LOL at spreadsheets Ses and GYo! It seems since this pregnancy, I have been so disorganised and I'm really looking forward to using the first couple of weeks of mat leave to get organised again - including my lists!

Diege - second all advice re. boys and nappy changing. I used to hold nappy over DS' bits apart from when actually wiping - I did have the odd sleep-deprived nappy change when I lapsed concentration and got peed on, but hey - it's all part of the fun!
LOL @ "I've got a willy in my tummy" - nevery thought of it that way before !
Re. boys clothes - I find Next quite good - I would expect that you'll get bought lots by other people (that's where a chunk of ours came from). Also, I'm quite happy buying stuff from Primark since he's a year old and started being much more mobile - tracksuit bottoms, jeans, etc - good value when they grow out of them so quickly. Can't help too much though, as got a bag full of hand-me-downs from cousin in October, so that's taken care of latest wardrobe! Gap and M&S also good - just depends on your budget.

Glask - agree with others on names, have your names in mind and see what she fits when she comes out - DC will quickly adjust - lots of children call the bump something different to what the baby is eventually called. With DS, we asked DN what she thought we should call the baby and she said "Baby Jesus" - needless to say, we refrained from that option!

Astarte - LOL at your DH and his work! Last time round, DH told me it would be really great if I could hold off until after 3pm on the Friday before due date - DS was born at 9pm on that Friday - now I think I've set unrealistic expectations for this time round

Ses - yes, we really need to get cracking on names. DH and I are both actually at home tonight, so we may look at this very topic then - think I'm being a bit stupidly supersticious - as we don't know whether boy or girl, I feel if I come up with more names for one or other it will influence outcome

Kayz - lol at DS and DH - glad to hear DH is laughing, not in too much pain obviously.

to ohsnap, LaTour, 2BG, Nat, Gruff, Cosmo, Playing, Kooky and anyone else I've missed.

tinkhashertinklet · 29/01/2009 13:42

just saw midwife

dd2 weighed 8lbs6.5ozs on sat now weighs 8lbs4ozs
midwife said not too much to worry about as she hadnt taken a full feed before they came.
she has started taking 1oz and then you cant get anymore in her then 2-3 hours later just 1oz again.
midwife said we have to try and get in her as much as possible between now and sunday as they are coming out on sunday to weigh her.
it is hard trying to get food in them when they wont suck.
she ahs a hard suck we are going to try her with medium teats for the next one wondered if newborn teats were too slow.
she ahs been quite sicky over the last few days 2.
dd1 was an awful feeder reminds me of what she was like!!

kayzr · 29/01/2009 13:45

Tink, I'd be very very careful moving up a teat size as she could choke. We tried it with DS1 and he choked and it was very very scary. Luckily the MW was there when we tried it.

tinkhashertinklet · 29/01/2009 13:55

any thoughts ladies?!

change teat up to medium ones or
change milk
she is drinking cow and gate gold
have a tub of aptimel in the cupboard?

Diege · 29/01/2009 14:06

Hi TINKS! Have you though about the variflow teats? Had the same problem with dds re: feeding, and these did seem to help. You just turn to the appropriate 'setting' so can adjust flow of teat according to how LO is getting on with that feed. Also had the throwing up after every feed thing form a few weeks, which was a pain but unrelated I think. Brings it all back!
Thanks for the clothes advice STAR I do love Gap, but have never even looked at boy's section. Will also give Primark a go, and start looking at boys stuff in mini-boden where I get most of dds clothes from. Think I will save lots of money anyway as (from what I've seen) boy's things just don't seem to have the 'pull' of the girls things!
Oh and [the shame] who is ohsnap??

kayzr · 29/01/2009 14:10

Ohsnap is Moos Diege.

Diege · 29/01/2009 14:17

Thanks KAYZ! LOL at Freddie's headbutt btw

kayzr · 29/01/2009 14:21

I really don't want DH to go to work today. They have been told they don't have to go in and if it was me I wouldn't. I couldn't go to work knowing I had no job.

Starshinetiger · 29/01/2009 14:32

Tink - sorry for DD2's weightloss, but to me, 2.5oz doesn't sound horrific, especially when she hadn't fed well beforehand. Re. sickiness, I would offer my experience with DS who had reflux if it helps (not saying Bracken has reflux, but think same tips apply just for general sickiness) - keep her upright after feeding (if you're finding she's sicky for a while after a feed, keep her upright for as long as 30 mins) and wind by rubbing, not by patting - will she take a feed sooner than 2-3 hours later? With sickyness, they often want to feed more little and often - in early days, I could feed DS as regularly as 1 hour intervals at some points in the day, he just took small amounts more regularly. It maybe she is sucking hard because she's hungry, but she's getting a bit of sickiness or possibly reflux, she can't take a big feed despite being hungry because her stomach isn't keeping it down properly. Of course "all babies posset" - must remember to give you the mantra I heard for weeks with DS!
Hope that is helpful as intended and not scaremongering.

tinkhashertinklet · 29/01/2009 15:03

thanks for advice
we have decided to switch to aptimal dd1 did really well on it.
going to stick with the newborn teats for now.
mw said to make sure that she is feeding 3-4 hourly so going to try and get her to hold out so that she is more hungry
