I've taken it upon myself to open this thread as there seem to be quite a few SW19 mums-to-be.
My ante-natal thread on here (March) is huge and I just can't keep up!

Anyone wanna join me?

FruitynNutty · 23/02/2009 13:05

It's educational!

Sorry, here I am!

Tarran James Williams born 10.31pm Wednesday 18th February at 10.31pm, 3 hours after I arrived at hospital. Great waterbirth at St George's Carmen Suite. Didn't stop me having two (yes two) 3rd degreee tears but my little flaky-faced turtle boy is worth it!

If you have the choice, go with the Carmen Suite. It was fab and the room on the Labour Suite (had to wait there while birthing pool emptied & cleaned) was tiny and would have driven me mad had I needed to be in there more than half an hour.

FruitynNutty · 24/02/2009 08:32

Congratulations hom!!! Our first thread baby!

I'm so so so jealous about the Carmen I might have to try and run in there and chain myself to the pool! With some help from turtle I could try some James Bond action! They're such bullies at St.G's

Lovely name btw and ouch for the tears! - this is a big worry for me.

thehouseofmirth · 24/02/2009 13:28

Thanks Fruity! Can't remember why they won't let you in to C Suite - are you Group B Strep +?

Tears were only I think because I had to really actively push at the end as his heart rate went scarily low. Up until that point I had been really enjoying letting my body do all the work itself. Fascinating to know it really is possible to breath a baby out. Am starting to feel a lot less sore already and definitely more mobile than I would have been had I had the recommmend C-section.

FruitynNutty · 24/02/2009 13:52

Aw I'm so pleased it went well, apart from the tears of course! I might try that "breathing the baby out".
I remember the woman next door to me at C&W screaming and hollering. I'd had an epidural and wondered what all the fuss was about!
I'm not allowed in Carmen because I've had a c-section (nearly 4 flipping years ago!)
I'll blame them if I have an awful birth!

Is he utterly delicious? How's DS with him?

OP posts:
thehouseofmirth · 24/02/2009 14:11

Poor you Fruity, it's a bit mad as surely you can have a HB after a section and anyway there are only 3 floors between you and an operating theatre should anything go worng and there's only a 0.3% risk of rupture anyway! Who actually gets to make that decsion on your behalf?

He looks like a flaky turtle and is utterly delicious! DS1 is fien with him but is a bit cross with me and DH, I think...

Will put photo on profile right now.

FruitynNutty · 24/02/2009 14:42

OH MY GOD!!!!!! he's sooooooooooo scrummy hom!

I know, well, they've warned me against a HB. Made me feel like the worst person on earth when I suggested it .

I've spoken to the Head of Midwifery and the Midwife in charge of Carmen. Both say no, they have guidelines
I was actually really looking forward to my dream waterbirth. Now, I'm not looking forward to it at all

But hey ho, gotta keep my chin up. I'll have Turtle by my side to get me through it all

OP posts:
thehouseofmirth · 24/02/2009 14:59

Thank you! You'll have one just like that soon!

Why not go for a HB then? You'll have 2 MWs and Turtle with you plus you live so close to St G's that on a blue light you'd be there by the time the theatre was prepped anyway? Other option is to do what I did and stay at home as long as you can. If I'd had a Doula with me I'd probably have stayed at home even longer...

turtle23 · 24/02/2009 18:20

HOM-I could just eat him, he's looooooovely!

Fruity-We will get you through. Am still not giving up hope that we may get a really lovely midwife to sneak you into the Carmen. I really hate using the initials for it...could they not have called it something other than CS?

FruitynNutty · 24/02/2009 18:41

I'm planning on staying at home as long as possible.
Seeing midwife and consultant next week so am thinking of registering for a HB, eeek! I know I can change my mind at the last minute but I can't bare the arguments and/or looks I'll get from them when I tell them.

My poor friend is over due and is measuring 45cm 1st baby too. The midwife said she's never seen anyone so big! (she is immense!) Looks like they'll c-section her next week if nowt happens in the meantime. Apparently (according to MW) she's been contracting for days but she can't even feel it! She is seriously hard core

Hi Staceyk, welcome. Add yourself to our stats lis!

How are you doing Fruity? Not long to go now!

FruitynNutty · 06/03/2009 08:54

Blimey hom, was a certain little someone keeping you up at 4:21 this morning!?
How's it all going with you?

Nope, not long to go now, in fact, my birth has had a complete turn around. I'm booked in for an elective c-section on 18th March. Baby is breech and in a very peculiar position. He's not even here yet and is causing me grief! I'm actually really pleased with the decision. I wasn't going to get the birth I wanted anyway and this way I get to meet him a bit early too!
Also, I was panicking about only having 4 weeks off work. This way I have the whole 4 weeks to recover

DC3 will have to be a VBA2C! - I won't be able to afford you by then turtle

thehouseofmirth · 10/03/2009 02:21

Fruity can I interest you in some (unworn) gigantic knickers?! They're size 12 M&S belly warmers which I bought in case I ended up having a section. Didn't use them so they're all yours if you fancy them...
