I've taken it upon myself to open this thread as there seem to be quite a few SW19 mums-to-be.
My ante-natal thread on here (March) is huge and I just can't keep up!

Anyone wanna join me?

I hadn't heard about this - there is a new "Mum to be" grant from 6 April 2009, every woman is entitled to £190. You can apply once you're 25 weeks pregnant and your midwife or doctor has to sign your form. A friend of mine mentioned it to me over the weekend, I didn't know about it at all so thought I'd pass on the info in case those of you due aftr 6 April also didn't know. Sorry your LOs are due too early HoM, Katiebirdsnest, Wheelybug and Fruity

Here is the link - mum to be grant

Fruity I put on 15kg total during pregnancy, and 5kg came off after the birth and another 5 within about 3 weeks. I was 3 kg heavier than normal when I conceived so I need to lose another 8kg. I know i'm not talking big numbers but I have a slim friend, who didn't lose it all from the first and is having lots of trouble losing it from the second plus her original gain, and i'm trying to avoid that.

Oh hom it's soooo exciting isn't it Are you all prepared? I don't think I will be
Hadeda this grant thing has really got me down actually I'm never ever entitled to anything even though we really struggle - I think we're just over what the government class as low wage. I heard about this grant and got extremely excited, could practically smell the cash! Then I find out my due date is fifteen sodding days too early £190 would just be such a life saver at the moment too
I was thinking of asking my consultant to change my due date but I think he'd just laugh in my face. It's so bloody unfair especially as I just know this baby will be two weeks late just to rub my nose in it (DS was 12 days late)
kmp Are there 2.5lbs to a kilo? I'm crap with kilos. If that's correct then you've only got another 1.4 stone to lose, you only gave birth six/seven weeks ago - give your body a chance! You'll lose it soon enough. As soon as it starts getting warmer it'll fall off I put 3 stone on with DS and lost it in five months.
I'll have six months to lose it this time as I'm getting married in September - I hope it's easy to shift! I have no idea how much I weigh. I might weigh myself just before I give birth then again just after- be interesting to know how much is baby/fluid/placenta weight.

Fruity I've got way too much to do still to be excited yet! Sounds like we are in a similar financial situation to you so I've been doing some freelance admin work to bring in some extra cash. Have been doing it in the evenings but DS doesn't go to bed until 8.30pm and now by then I'm totally worn out so I'm really behind. I absolutely cannot have this baby until it's all up to date and I can hand it over.

These babies of ours certainly need to time their arrival correctly!
I'm a Childminder and have decided to take off four weeks mat leave (all I can afford to take). I will be working until my due date. If baby's two weeks late then that only gives me two weeks with him . If I have another c-section (which of course I won't eh turtle? ) then I'll have to take another six weeks off - then I'll be up shit creek

I hope you manage to raise enough cash with your admin work - it'll all be worth it in the end - Will DS not go to bed any earlier than 8.30? Even half an hour might help?

Fruity 2.2 lbs to a kg so gtranslates to about 1.25 stonw to lose - i know it's just that it was falling off and has now plateaued so was in a panic that it will stay at what i'm at now - especially since i'm BF too.... But I keep forgetting i'm only 6 weeks post birth so i guess i shouldn't expect too much with no exercise. I had a C/S so haven't been able to do any yet...

Fruity, have you considered taking a bit more time off and claiming maternity allowance or would that be too big a drop ib your income? Or would it mean losing all your "customers"?

Welcome angrypixie!

Fruity-don't worry, it'll be a quick waterbirth

kmp I don't believe that bfing helps you lose weight. It makes you more hungry. I fully support BFing but a friend of mine only lost the weight once she had finished bfing. But then she did eat for England!
Hi angrypixie welcome to the thread. Where abouts in sw19 are you?
hom I'll be claiming mat allowance but it's no where near enough to cover my half of the mortgage and bills. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end but can't help worrying!
Turtle I love your optimism!

Fruity I think the opposite has happened to me - i've completely LOST my appetite since I gave birth and have been BF-ing fully. But then again I ate everything in sight while pregnant so it wouldn't be hard to feel like i've lost my appetite given the comparison!
Welcome angrypixie!!
I could use your expertise.... How to get baby to settle - been trying for hours now, and it's 1am! If it's not wind then I think it's jsut he wants to be in our bed - not his cot... He's full to brim so can't be hunger!

kmp1 would it be the end of the world to bring him in bed with you if that will help? I know it's not for veryone but my major regret with DS1 is that I believed all the co-sleeping scare stories and only started doing it when he was 9 months old & waking up every 45 mins. After months of sleep hell suddenly I felt totally brilliant and life was normal again. It's especially fab if you're breast feeding because they soon learn to latch on without waking you up at all!

kmp1 · 23/01/2009 10:16

Hi Houseofmirth yes most nights he's ended up (and started) in our bed - I had quite a good night after my post last night - he went to sleep in the cot at 130 and woke at 415 for a quick sleepy feed and then back asleep until 7am then again a quick feed and just slept till now! 10am so I think the only thing i did different was REALLY filled him up - i mean I expressed during the day yesterday, so I gave him that last feed - plus some BF ing until he was stuffed! Most nights he's been in our bed, and waking every hour or so - other thing is, I think he was doing 6wk growth spurt which could be tapering off now?

Does anyone else get a pain in their chest now and again? Twice now I've had a pain on the left side of my chest, this morning and about a week ago. It's probably all the crap I've been eating - my poor heart is screaming at me!

Hello all - just come across this thread and was hoping to join? I live on the Southfields "Grid", SW18, but spend a lot of time in Wimbledon Park which is 10 minutes walk away, plus do all my shopping at the centre, so guess that counts eh?

Am 31 weeks pregnant today with second boy - my first is nearly 22 months. Baby is due 27th March - 8 days before DS1's second birthday...they're gonna hate us for all their future combined parties!! Am also hoping to get into the Carmen Suite at St George's when the time comes and hopefully have the birth there too - got to the hospital in transition last time so had to go the natural (unplanned) route anyway, so figure may as well do it again this time round!

Am already sooooo tired of being pregnant and looking forward to the baby's arrival - suffering from pelvic pain and backache and feeling frustrated that I can't do anything for much longer than 5 minutes without needing to sit down...counting down the weeks now! Just a bit nervous about coping with a very boisterous two year old who doesn't sleep very well as well as a newborn but my mom is coming to stay (from South Africa) for the first few weeks so that'll be a great help. Feeling absolutely disgusting at the moment as I've put on so much weight - gone from my normal size 8 to at least a 12/14 and all I do is eat, eat and eat (I'm talking 6 slices of toast or three kit kats in one sitting ), so it's gonna get worse Was about this size at the end with DS1 but I still have 9 weeks to go....!

Hi Snooch welcome to our lovely thread

I'll add your details for you in a minute. We're quite similar. I'm also 31 weeks (well 32 on Sunday) with my second boy. I'm due on 22nd March and am desperately hoping for the Carmen suite - could be handbags at dawn between us!
I know what you mean about the over eating, do you find that you just have no willpower what-so-ever and once you start eating you can't stop? I used to be a size 10-12, now more like a 14-16
Luckily I've found this pregnancy to go really fast!
It's great that your mum can come over to help - I bet she can't wait!

Sorry Fruity !!!

Hope everyone is doing well. We've been to two first birthday parties this afternoon and I am finished! DD seemed to enjoy herself though, kept finding food on the floor and eating it - I wish she wouldn't do that!

Snooch - think we are from the same place, I'm also from SA. My mom is also comming over but only once the baby is safely born - my idea of HELL is having her here while I'm in labour as she's a real panicker!!
