I've taken it upon myself to open this thread as there seem to be quite a few SW19 mums-to-be.
My ante-natal thread on here (March) is huge and I just can't keep up!

Anyone wanna join me?

Thanks for the welcome Fruity! Ha - yes - sounds like we may just run into eachother in the Carmen Suite! Wish I was 32 weeks tomorrow...even 5 days earlier than my current due date would be lovely at this point!

Hadeda - thought you were also from SA when I saw your name. Funny, noisy creatures though they are - they're one of the things I really miss here. Remember lying in bed in my old sunny bedroom on Sunday mornings and always hearing them flying by in the distance....ah! TBH would also rather that my mom arrives after the baby's born as I'm really not sure how she'll react...! But, need someone to look after DS when I go into labour (no other family here) and of course once I bring DS2 home - DH not getting any time off work whatsoever so gonna need her desperately! Who's going to look after your DD when you go into labour?

Oh and Fruity, just seen that you're also a Childminder, as I am! Only 4 weeks off, not nice at all! We've been saving like mad from the minute I got pregnant in order to supplement the meagre ol' maternity allowance, but even so, it'll be tough making ends meet - am planning on taking 6 months off and even that doesn't feel like long enough!! Poor you - it's going to be awful trying to work while so chronically sleep deprived

How funny Snooch! Perhaps when you go back to work we'll have to get our mindees together for a picnic in Wimbledon Park
You're so lucky to have 6 months off, I'm very I'm hoping DS2 will just fit in with the others and of course he'll sleep through the night from birth

Oh I meant to say Snooch - Are your mindees coming back to you after 6 months or do you have to find new ones? Is it quite busy in Southfields? It's dead around here for CMers. I daren't lose any of mine!

Morning
Turtle thanks so much for coming over on Sat. I'm hooked on the Childbirth book (although it's quite hippyfied (sp?)! I will have a bash at the Oxytocin one but it's quite scientific for me. I'm desperate to watch the DVD but not sure DP will be too keen. I might have a look today while the mindees are asleep As expected DP was bloody useless, he might just have well not been there Couldn't be more disinterested if you made him Perhaps he can wait in the corridor while I give birth

Fruity - that sounds lovely! Only thing is we may be moving to Surrey after the baby's born - our current place is far too small and don't think our rental budget will stretch very far here, but keeping eyes and ears open for something just in case it pops up - am holding thumbs as I really don't want to move from the area - we're so conviently placed and manage to get wherever we need to on foot, especially as far as the childminding goes.

I wouldn't say it's absolutely dead here on the business front, it's actually always been quite the opposite, but yes I would say a bit quieter than usual. A lot of the childminders I know have lost mindees due to parents being made redundant as well. Well, due to the fact that we're unsure as to whether we'll still be living here or not in 6 months time, I've had to let my mindees go - two of them have fortunately clicked with two childminders I recommended so at least they're sorted, and the other's mum is also pregnant and due 4 days before me so we're both going on maternity leave at the end of Feb! So it's all worked out really

Fruity-Good to see you too! Have you asked him if he really wants to be there? Do you think you would be ok with it if he did say no? Worth having a chat about it. Just read the chapter on oxytocin and breastfeeding...the rest is irrelevant, really. Ina May is fab though, isn't she? Very hippy indeed, but fab.

I haven't asked him if he really wants to be there. I think I'd be really upset if he wasn't there tbh. Even though he'll be completely useless I need to try to convince him to give me lots of support (like he should be doing!). Maybe I'll chat to him later.........

Fruity - hope your DH gets a bit more engaged with things for you.

Took DD for her 12 month jabs today. Naturally she was VERY unhappy about having it done, but cheered up soon afterwards as the nurse had a penguin in a snow ball (those ones you turn upside down and they're full of glitter in some liquid). We went to her music group afterwards which seems to have taken her mind off it completely.

Snooch - I'm still making my mind up what to do with DD. I'm seriously considering having a home birth, in which case DD will hopefully be able to stay home. My brother lives here and he'll take her if I do go to hospital, or if we need her out the house during the home birth. It will be a bit odd though as he'll have to explain to work that he might have to dash off at the last minute! DH gets 2 weeks paternity leave so he'll be around for the first bit.

I've been having what feels a bit like contractions for the past 2 days. Impossible as I'm only 18 weeks. And I think it's a bit early for Braxton Hicks? But they're definitely enough for me to think "ow!". Been going on for 2 days now, I'm hoping it settles soon as it's starting to worry me a little. I don't remember this with DD.

It's a beautiful day - think we'll take a walk up to the park for a swing on the swings once DD wakes up.
Hope everyone is having a good day!

Hadeda I think it is possible to have braxton hicks that early. I've never had them but I've heard they can be quite painful!

Hadeda- Braxton Hicks start at about six weeks and you can feel them by 16/17 weeks and are different with each pregnancy...probably not what you want to hear, but at least you know that it is normal!

Snooch · 27/01/2009 14:21

Hadeda, Fruity and Turtle are right - I started having Braxton's very early on in this pregnancy - around 17 weeks. Only started getting them at about 30 weeks the first time. I get them ALL the time now and really intensely - they always leave me feeling rather nervous!

Hadeda · 27/01/2009 22:02

Thank you Fruity, Turtle and Snooch! Very reassuring to here it is just Braxton Hicks. I've noticed they're worse after I eat something - don't think this LO likes his/her space being taken up by food!

But it could be worse - heard about that woman in the US who just had 8 babies, now THAT's hard work!

Thanks Fruity - yes, I'm booked into St George's too. Went for the tour on Monday, with lots of other worried/tired looking mums-to-be, other than the lovely one who was on number 4 and looking very chilled - I took that as a good sign! Don't know what flavour we're having. Baby was head up a couple of weeks ago, so I've got a scan on Tuesday to see what they're doing. Means my current birth plan varies from elective cs to seeing how I get on in the Carmen Suite. A bit surreal!

What on earth have they done to the site?? I'm sure it's whizzy and great and all but I am a sleep deprived luddite who likes things to Stay As They Are!

Anyway, rant over. Thought I'd pop in to say hello and see how everyone is at the end of the week. And we have snow forecast for this weekend or next week, which always make me very excited! I'm hosting a baby shower for a friend of mine tomorrow which should be great fun. DH is taking DD out for some daddy time, plus I thought she would be too much of a side show at the baby shower - it's not about her, but would be if she was there IYKWIM...

Am hoping to pop out for supper tonight. We very rarely get to do it anymore but if DH gets out the office early enough think we'll push it and have Dinner for Three at the Dog & Fox in the village.

Anyway, I should get some work done so will head off. I hope everyone is feeling well

It's bloody awful. I thought they were going to let us have the option of keeping the classic style - doesn't seem to be the case as I've tried to change it back

Dinner in Dog and Fox sounds lovely - very We'll have to have whatever's left in the fridge tonight.

Just a quick stop, must go and change mindee's nappy now..........

Wobbly Left a message on the nannies/aupairs thread. Think it might be good idea to try and share a Mother's Help. What do you think?

Hello everyone else. I have been AWOL on the thread for ages. Sorry. Quite a bit going on in RL at the mo. Won't bore you with details, but involves crappy builders, solicitors and LOTS of money. Urrggghh.

Hope everyone is well and feeling good. I tihnk at 18 weeks my MS might be finally going. Yipppeee.
