swampster · 13/01/2009 17:16

Red book? so did I, dinky - but I am trying desperately to bring the tone of this chat down to a level more suitable for me!

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 17:18

Right, well now everyone has turned up, I'm off!
Back later........

MarkStretch · 13/01/2009 17:20

Oh god having the computer downstairs is lethal!

I have managed to drag myself away from MN for 2 minutes to peel potatoes.

Haven't seen dd in hours.

I'm addicted again!

swampster · 13/01/2009 17:33

Snap on the potato peeling front.

thehouseofmirth · 13/01/2009 17:38

I think there are high chairs I can see them in my mind's eye, but then I could just be making it up...

Sorry LBB all food is staying frmly in freezer until baby comes but you're welcome to come round for dinner then! Current contents are soon to be joined by fish pie, pizza sauce and sauteed peppers, onions and muchrooms etc for DH to make fritattas. Might even stew some plums...

thehouseofmirth · 13/01/2009 17:39

Need more Panettone...

LittleMissNorty · 13/01/2009 17:43

mmmmm Has anyone tried the Hot Cross Bun loaf from Sainsbury's?

scrummy toasted with butter......

swampster · 13/01/2009 17:45

PS Welcome home, MS!

McDreamy · 13/01/2009 17:59

I would love to come and stoke your nappies Swampster - they're clean right? but I have an appointment at 10.30 on MOnday morning to get my section date sorted!! Consultant was talking about Friday 13th but it's DD's birthday on the 14th so ideally would like to be home by then. Am hoping for 9/10/11th, will have to wait and see!

Am very [evny] of you all going! Think of me on Monday sat in Soke Mandeville hosp - I'll be thinking of you lot and you cakes !

Do my children need a bath tonight? DH is away and I just can't be bothered!

chilledmama · 13/01/2009 18:09

I was thinking exactly the same thing about bath time...DS is enjoying watching Shrek and telling me the story line as we go along He'll smell a bit tomorrow but I don't have to smell him as he'l be at nursery

My bump has dropped. I'm really uncomfortable now, my pubic bone is aching!! Have GP check tomorrow but she always thinks I'm cephalic as she can't tell whats baby and whats cord with the sonicaid thingy
Long and short is MW appointment on Thursday will actually tell me more...and if it doesn't then I'll be in sharpish for a scan to confirm position.

THOM Stop teasing!

PinkTulips · 13/01/2009 18:21

dear god women, i start reading with the best of intentions to comment on everyones' posts and get 1/4 way down and completely lose my train of thought!

had another waste of time hospital appointment today.... don't know why i need to go in when they don't check anything my gp wouldn't... it's such a long drive it costs me half a tank of petrol to get there and back all for 2 mins with a doc who, i swear to god, i don't understand why she's an obstetrician... you know those people who exude complete and utter disinterest in babies and kids, she's one of them! the baby kicked her hand when she was measuring and she still had to ask me is the baby moving well she just doesn't seem to have any interest whatsoever in preg or babies or any empathy for preg women and she can barely speak english which makes the whole experiance even dafter. [and breathe]

pain between my legs is chronic now... babies head is still wedged right down in my pelvis (as if i needed a doc to tell me that!) and i'm finding it harder and harder to walk around. roll on tomorrow and my cumin tea experiment

stopped by my parents who had just been back to holland for a few days and was loaded up with drop (salty liquorice) and gorgeous kids clothes by them so day wasn't a total nightmare at least.

ended up making pancakes for dinner though as i forgot to defrost meat yet again and had nothing easy there to cook except eggs and the poor kids have had scrambled eggs twice in the last week already so decided to go for the mad option of crepes instead not exactly healthy and nutricious! although in my meager defence they were organic eggs, spelt flour and goats milk so almost healthy.... cept for the jam of course

glad you're feeling better dinky, nasty stage of preg to be sick for. hopefully you'll get a bit of rest before d-day to recover properly.

mamagoose how awful about the car crash, glad you're ok although you must still be in shock after that! pain in the bum about the car needing to go to the garage, really not the right time to be without it, although you should bring it into them just to make sure there's no damage done that could result in it breaking down on you or you'd be in an even worse situation.... sod's law it would happen on the way to the hospital!

of you all meeting up.... would love to put some faces to names and meet you guys.... will have to start saving up so i can fly over for the next one

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 18:26

PT at your hospital experiences, horrid isn't it?
Let us know hiow you gt on with the tea, I am def trying it if it works.
Stop talking pancakes!! Please! Everytime one of you mentions them, I wanna kick myself for not hving the ingredients to make any myself.

thehouseofmirth · 13/01/2009 18:36

LLB surely with a child in the house you must have eggs, flour and milk in? mmm... I'm going to make pancakes filled with spinach and melted cheese right now! Also pancakes freeze really well!

PT have you got skype and a webcam? I could take my laptop and we could have a video link!

rosieposey · 13/01/2009 18:39

Aww god after all that promising myself that i need to cook lots of meals ready to go into the freezer ive made exactly none. I will get my arse into gear next week ... i will

Well back from growth scan and as i expected he's a big boy. Im 34 weeks + 3 days and his head is measuring 40 weeks and stomach is measuring 38+ weeks. His head has gone off the 100th percentile but not hugely and sonographer doesnt think that will bother the consultant when i see her tomorrow hugely. The sonographer pointed out how chubby his arms and cheeks were ( you could literally see the folds right there on screen ) and said well he is a bit chubby but ive seen alot worse Oh well, a 10 lber via c section wont be too bad i dont think, not sure id fancy doing it the other way really. She put his weight at 6 and a half lbs so hopefully 10lbs is worst case scenario at 38 weeks.

Got to start getting some energy again - just the visit to the hospital and 1 hour in Sainsburys is enough for me these days. I am still going back to sleep in the mornings for about 2 to 3 hours after everyone has left and i swear i could have another nap too late afternoon! No more nesting for me - i think im all nested out. Want to go and see Slumdog Millonaire this evening with DH but will see if i can get the energy to go ... lol it really is getting to a point where i will have to be shoehorned out of the house hence why i think getting on a train and shlepping up to London will actually do me some good as will get me out plus i can put faces to the names. Am going to be rubbish with names though and thinking in my head nicknames = real names and getting all confused

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 18:39

THOM I have full fat milk for ds, but refuse to use it for myself, just nasty!! (not a milk fan, I hate the stuff). I don't have eggs, ds isn't keen on them and I always set the smoke alarm off when I do try to do omlettes etc, not sure about flour. I must have some of that......
But even if did have ingredients, I am so useless domestically that I wouldn't have a clue what to do with it all.
I'm a packet mix girl.
The only fresh cooking I've done was for ds when I weaned him.....

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 18:41

rosie Wow at that big baby!
I've discussed this with friends and we have come to the conclusion that a big baby is definately easy to deal with after birth and less of a worry in the sense of if he skips a feed

herbgarden · 13/01/2009 18:50

LBB sorry got the wrong end of the stick earlier.....

Thanks for advice re red book - I'm sure I got mine last time when HV came round after ds was born and I now have no idea where it is and stopped taking ds to be weighed after about 5months. The novelty wore off after a while and he always looked fine and healthy to me - I'm cancelling the appointment as I can't remember the HV ever telling me anything which I couldn't have found out on MN anyway.

Off out to meet a friend tonight as dh got home early and him and ds are upstairs making lots of noise in the bath. Will check in tomorrow - have a good evening everyone

PinkTulips · 13/01/2009 18:51

THOM.... our internet connection makes dial up look speedy so skype refuses to function sadly

we can't even get it to download!

LBB.... get the pancakes from the fridge section in aldi or tescoes and microwave them, then roll them up with butter and suger... they taste almost as good as my homemade ones

rosie... at your little whopper. LBB is right though, big uns are way easier after the birth, much more placid and easier to handle, you don't have that awful china doll sensation with a big baby that you do with a little one... dp could barely hold dd for weeks as he was so terrified of how delicate she was whereas he was much more confidant with ds as he was far more solid feeling.

lbb, i think i'm more annoyed that i drove all that way and was too sore and broke to go shopping while i was there than at the medical care... i'm used to that being a bit lax at this point!

rosieposey · 13/01/2009 18:56

Yeah there is that - hopefully he will feed really well too. DD2 was only 6lbs and its hard to believe that nearly a month before she was born he weighs more than her! Im sadly going to have to rethink all those newborn sizes that im carting into the hospital though ... have a feeling i might just have to go straight to 0-3 months

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 19:03

PT Thanx for pancake advice, will put it on shopping list ready for tomorrow I think!

When I was at docs earlier, there was a new mum there with her baby, we started talking (as you do) and she was telling me about her birth experience. She told me her dd weighed 6lbs something at birth and is now 9lbs 2oz and I was looking at this baby thinking how mad it was that ds was never that small!

rosie ds was only in newborn for a max of 2 weeks, haven't even bothered washing them this time as going straight into 0-3

Questionkid · 13/01/2009 19:19

I went round earlier today to see the first lady from my NCT group who has had her baby and it made me so excited! The baby (Charlotte) was really adorable and I had a very long cuddle. It made me very excited about the arrival of our little one. She also had her in the same hospital that I'm having mine in so it was good to get some tips on how things work, what they do and don't provide etc. I feel a bit more mentally prepared now.

What I'm not prepared for is meals for after the baby comes. You know what? I can't be bothered! I'm justifying it by the fact that I don't have any other children so don't need to be worrying about making sure they get a balanced diet in those first few weeks. DH and I will muddle through and work it out (no doubt the local McDonalds and Chinese takeaway will do a roaring trade in those weeks). Oh dear, I'm a bad person aren't I?

spottyshoes · 13/01/2009 19:24

Goodness I dont know where to begin with the reading. I've not been a very Fab Febber over the past few days - sorry. All I can see is pancakes and big babies!!

I thought if this one is a boy we would just use DS's clothes but with him only being a tiddler when he was born, he wasn't even in Newborn until he was 6 wks which was the beginning of June! Wrong season if this one is bigger so I think I'll be shopping no matter what the sex!

Glad you had a good appt MS and consultant was nice. Do you get a proper scan so that you can see baby at that appt or do they do it on the hand held monitors?

DS is just in bed and I think I'm going to follow him. I need to read that bloomin FSA financial guide book again for Thursday's review on here. Anyone else doing it?

MamaGoose · 13/01/2009 19:41

Thanks for all the well wishes!

ChilledMama - don't know if I've missed the boat but you were talking about possible relocation the other day with DP's job. We did it a year ago for my DP's job. Will be away 2 and a half to 4yrs. I had a lot of reservations initially (esp over my own career - I have always worked full-time and it is v imp to me) but it's absolutely amazing. Definitely the time to do it whilst the children are young. Happy to talk more about it, ups, downs and pitfalls if you want!

rosieposey · 13/01/2009 19:41

Oh forgot to say congrats on your sorting stuff out with your consultant MS - its great that you have a definate date for your CS but that you can also possibly try for a VBAC too and that they were able to put your mind at ease. I am hoping that mine will do similar tomorrow although she can be a bit of a rottweiler so we shall see.
