Spotty it was a proper scan, she tried really hard to get a photo of his face front on but he was being awkward.

Rosie my dd was a bit of a whopper at nearly 9lbs- this was my face

Have been told to expect around 7lbs for ds, I had done the opposite of you and bought 0-3 thinking he would be too big for newborn! I can't imagine having a smaller baby!

dinkystinky · 13/01/2009 20:11

Evening all. Rosie - hearing about your not so little one made me smile; I love chubby little babies! DS went straight into 0-3 clothes (plus some 3-6 ones within a few weeks as he was a tall one). Am planning on doing the same with this one.

Pink - sorry about your unimpressive hospital visit but hurrah on the presents from your parents.....

Spotty - I keep getting distracted by the pancakes too. I am also getting freezer envy at THOM's freezer.

oooggs · 13/01/2009 20:14

evening ladies

37+4 and bloody counting, I am tired, fed up, have insominia and finding dts and the school run very hard work - surley its about time more babies arrived

lardybump · 13/01/2009 20:34

evening all. Hope you are all well. I am really looking forward to my physio tomorrow I really hope she can sort me out a bit...

I havent stopped eating today i am sure that I had trouble eating lots at this stage last time.....

When can I start the cumin tea?? Is it like RL Tea start at 35 weeks???? I have the RLT tablets and will be starting them on saturday....... Also going to get some clary sage and lavender.....

spottyshoes · 13/01/2009 20:44

Ooooo good, dh cant make our consultant appt so if it's a proper scan I might sneakily find out the sex!!!

Quite of all of you with baby dates already or passed T. I am only 34 weeks today

spottyshoes · 13/01/2009 20:48

Hope they can make you a bit more comfortable tomorrow Lardy.

What's this about Cumin Tea - I forget so much these days

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 13/01/2009 20:56

I?m not surprised the GP said anything LBB, it?s not like names were mentioned.

I?m feeling very at the nappy talk, unless I spend a lot of money on prem nappies I won?t be using them for a while.

Herb, I got both my girls red books when we were discharged from hospital.

LBB, pancakes are easy! For 1-pint use ½ pint milk, 1 egg and top up with flour.

I went shopping today for clothes for tomorrow - still don't have any! Called into Boots for nursing supplies, was going to replace my pump as my Mini Medela I had last time didn't seem to be working. Dad said to try it on batteries, so I got them instead, it nearly took my nipple off! I didn't take it off the min setting and I'm used to using the hospital grade pumps! I got nearly 3oz in 10 minutes doing both sides, I think I'm going to have to take it tomorrow to pump in the day if I need to - I can't believe how quickly I'm filling up or how much I can take off. I'm going to have to go to Tesco later as I still haven't got clothes

chilledmama · 13/01/2009 21:14

Have to say...not looking forward to leaking again! I leaked until DS was about 8 months old, and I mean a lot!!!
I used breast shells so that when I was feeding on one side I could collect the leaks on the other...when DS was 3 weeks old I was collecting over 1oz on the other side from feeds! I had enough milk for the whole of Portsmouth!!!

OP posts:
lardybump · 13/01/2009 21:20

spotty I am also only 34 weeks and very of those ladies who are nearly there......

i think it was Rosie who said that Cumin Tea helped bring on her labour last time... She put cumin seeds in water with honey... I might start it next week with my raspberry leaf tea tablets.......

Chilled I hope that I get more milk this time. DD was exclusivly bf for 3 months and I never leaked once. I really struggled last time but think it was due to dd's refulx and the stress it caused at feeding times. I would spend hours at the pump and only get a couple of oz.... Havent tried an electric one though are they worth investing in??

chilledmama · 13/01/2009 21:27

lardy-I have an electric avent one and have to say I found the manual setting much more comfortable...and good for the muscles
So your starting on Saturday with the RL tea tablets...cool. I will be starting Sunday!! One in the morning and one at night I think to start with...need to look out the destructions that gave me the doses for building up. Don't fancy the cumin tea, the description given as dirty water just doesn't appeal!

Ugh, the bloody mice are back. Why, why, why? I have a clean house, a clean kitchen and am obsessive about cleaning away any trace of food in the kitchen but for the second time in a week have turned on the light in the kitchen to see a rather well fed looking vermin scarpering across my floor. Am fed up!

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 21:40

Just realised what a stupid idea a trip to burger king is pre-meet, if I do that I'll end up with a full bellied tired rat bag so will prob pack a lunch for him and distract him with food when there. I'm gonna look on the website for rfh, see if there's info on high-chairs and menus.
Right, just gonna catch up on past few hours

chilledmama · 13/01/2009 21:43

good luck lbb- everytime I try my brain melts

OP posts:
littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 21:48

TBM Thanx for the pancake tip It would shock you just how domestically useless I am! hehehe.

dinky poor you with the mice. What a pain in the behind. Maybe next door aren't as up to scratch as you are and the mice have found a little hole. Peanut butter on traps works well, they also don't like tooth paste, so if you spot any little spaces, fill them with tooth paste, they shouldn't eat through it.........

I took RL tablets last time as suggested by MIL, she said they would help get uterus into shape, and would help encourage the start of things if baby was ready etc, she told me to take 2 a day and when I went into labour, finish the tub off which I did, don't think they helped in the slightest tbh.

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 21:50

chilled brain melts when try to catch up?
That normally happens to me if I miss a day, try really hard to read every word and remember who says what but end up canning and looking out for new arrivals or signs someone is getting close. Luckily I've only been off a few hours so only few things to read!

chilledmama · 13/01/2009 21:52

2 a day for first week, then up to 4-5 a day when full term...the effect has to build up.
I've got destructions somewhere about it...I'll look it out tomorrow ( I have a day off)

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 21:57

Hahaha. Sorry
Worth a go again I suppose, might get some next time I'm out, but will prob forget as that's the way everything else goes...

lardybump · 13/01/2009 21:57

I will try anything lbb as long as it will do no harm.... I will only be 35 weeks next week so do I need to take 2 a day until 37 weeks then go up to 4 a day.....

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 22:02

Yeah, I'd prob do something like that lardy don't want to put too much in system straight off.
My gp told me today (36wks) that she thinks I can try ll the old tricks to get him out.....

chilledmama · 13/01/2009 22:02

yeah lardy-it definatly starts off as 2 per day...will do no harm! I will confirm later dosages tomorrow evening.
Think I better go to bed now as DS seems to be waking up just after 6am at the moment so early start what ever I do now!!

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 13/01/2009 22:03

Chilled, I?m leaking like mad, I?m so of myself as I couldn?t express much when I needed to when Tink was in hospital! I?ve paid more money on breast pads than I did before hoping they hold more and I still have to change them quite often. I?ve picked up some shells today to try and save some of the masses of milk that?s escaping! I went for a fitting today and had to quickly get dressed as I just knew Sîan was hungry (anyone else had that ultrasonic hearing when they?re baby is hungry but nowhere near them?) and started spurting. I?ve gone up again (HH) it?s mad!

Lardy, I?ve not tried a manual pump but if you are going to pump a lot then an electric will save you RSI! I think each person has a different pump they get on with, some will do well with a brand of manual, some with an electric. The Medela Mini is only £53 at Boots.

lardybump · 13/01/2009 22:07

Thanks for the advise TBM i may have to try that if things go bad like last time....

Right i am off to bed now so will catch up with you lovely ladies when I get back from the hospital tomorrow..... Feeling like a new women i hope.

chilledmama · 13/01/2009 22:08

a quick google has given this but I'm sure I have more aswell...

Its commonly believed that drinking raspberry leaf tea or taking raspberry leaf tablets will help to induce labour and as such this supplement is taken by many a pregnant woman keen to speed up their baby's arrival into the world. Unfortunately this is a misconception; raspberry leaf tea doesn't actually help to bring on labour at all. Having said this it is thought to have many other benefits for the birthing process and has been used as a labour-aid for hundreds of years.

Visit YourHealthStore.co.uk to stock up on Raspberry Leaf Tea in an easy-to-take capsule form.

The benefits

Raspberry leaf tea is nutrient rich and contains many of the vitamins and minerals necessary for a healthy pregnancy including vitamins A, C, E and B, magnesium, calcium and iron. Consuming raspberry leaf tea not only helps mother and baby to get all the nutrients they need but can also help to replenish a new mothers stores after the birth.

Raspberry leaf tea also contains the alkaloid 'fragine' which is said to strengthen and tone the muscles of the uterus, helping them to contract more efficiently during labour. Research has found that taking raspberry leaf during the weeks prior to delivery helps to shorten the second stage of labour by making contractions more effective. Some studies have also found that it reduces the need for an assisted delivery (i.e. an emergency cesarean or use of forceps or ventouse).

Sipping raspberry leaf tea during and after the birth is also said to help the uterus contract back down to size, reduce after birth bleeding and help initiate the let down of breastmilk.

While there hasn't been a huge amount of research into this area, the general consensus does seem to be that drinking raspberry leaf tea during the latter stages of pregnancy can help to make for a 'better' labour with few side effects.

How to take raspberry leaf tea

Raspberry leaf tea can be taken in tea bag, loose leaf, tablet or tincture form and is available from most herbalists and health food stores.

It is advisable to wait until the 32nd week of pregnancy before trying raspberry leaf tea as there is a concern that consumption before this time in the more fragile, earlier stages of pregnancy could lead to problems. Once you have reached the 32nd week of your pregnancy you could begin with one cup of raspberry leaf tea a day and gradually increase up to 4 cups or tables a day (although this may vary in accordance with the strength of the blend and the manufacturers instructions).

While there is no guarantee that raspberry leaf tea will help speed up the labour process, if you like the taste it might just be worth a try.
