swampster · 13/01/2009 12:03

Yay dinky! I KNEW you were a proper potty-mouth and didn't speak in asterisks really!

swampster · 13/01/2009 12:08

MamaSnowGoose, use the snow as an excuse to stay indoors and nest.

MamaGoose · 13/01/2009 12:19

Car not a write off but crunched in two places. Just can't get it fixed really until after birth as only have one car and dare not risk it being in garage if need to do dash to hospital!! Would stay in but will have to go out later to get DS1&2 from school!

Questionkid · 13/01/2009 12:25

In response to a post a while ago, I'm planning to come on Monday so long as all is well and I'm not feeling too 'close' (I'll be 38 weeks the following day).

I know venue is Royal Festival Hall foyer cafe, have we said a time?

I would imagine I'll be able to make a decision by Sunday evening if I think I can make the trip, and will post on here if I decide I won't manage.

Calico1 · 13/01/2009 12:31

Glad you're back on your feet Dinky, even if it means you have to work!

MamaGoose - crash sounds scary! I managed to reverse into a bollard the other day and scraped the car a bit (haven't told DH yet) and that shook me up, so take care of yourself.

Littlesez - I used a Tens machine last time and it helped a bit to take my mind off the contractions for a while but then it started to irritate me and I remember ripping it off in a rage! Some people do find them v useful though. I bought one off ebay (got new pads of course) and then sold it again afterwards so it cost me nothing to try it. I found a nice warm bath worked for me in the early stages - but some say it can slow things down again.....

Calico1 · 13/01/2009 12:33

Forgot to say - I am still a maybe about the meet up in London. I'll have to negotiate journey to and across London with toddler and not sure yet if I am feeling brave enough!

McDreamy · 13/01/2009 12:49

Afternoon ladies!

Am so of those of you experiencing nesting - my house could so do with me feeling like this.

Took myself and DS off to local mums and tots session this morning - it was lovely. Met lots of mums I recognised from the school playground and got talking to them. I might finaly make some friends here after all.(moved into what seems like a ghost street at beg of Nov). Anyway I have now joined the bok club and although I can't make the meeting on Friday I should just be able to squeeze the next one in before the baby is born!

I would love to come on Monday but have to be back for the school run at 3 so might be cutting it a bit fine.

Feeling a bit brighter today although had a funny turn last night. Pulse went a bit high and I felt really wierd but luckily DH had just got home and checked me over!

Guess what - my midwife is seeing me on Thursday - only 7 weeks since the last time I saw her!!!!

Mamagoose - your crash sounds very scary! I'm so pleased all our snow has gone.

mumoverseas · 13/01/2009 13:12

Mamagoose, hope you are ok after your scare. I know how you feel, we had a nasty car crash in October and it was really scary as my very naughty LO decided to frighten me and not move all night which caused a huge panic until we got to the doctors the next morning and heard the little monkeys heartbeat.

Nesting. What is that? should I be doing this by now or will baking suffice?

catstar · 13/01/2009 13:57

Just marking thread and hoping to catch up properly soon - hope everyone well .

Noticed some of you still planning to meet up on Monday - I'm going to aim to be there too! Will have DD (18 months) in tow. I've never been to RFH cafe before - does anyone know if they have highchairs & food for little ones? Will probably try to get there just before midday as DD kicks up a fuss if lunch comes at 12:01 !!!

Better dash as I managed to get out of a client lunch by offering to update this afternoon's presentation. I have no desire to be discussing insurance when all I want to do is get my hospital bag sorted out and wash some baby clothes!

MarkStretch · 13/01/2009 14:05

Afternoon all

The Virgin man has been and my laptop and broadband are now situated downstairs in a far more sociable spot so expect to see a lot more of me!

I had my scan and consultant this morning. Scan was good, was nice to see him again and find out his positioning (head down, not back to back as previously thought). They tried to get a picture but he had both hands up to his face so we couldn't get one.

Then spoke to the consultant who was lovely and took lots of time to talk through all of my worries and concerns and made sure we had all of the facts.

The decision we made was to have another scan and appointment in 2 weeks (38weeks) to check placenta function but he has booked me in for an elective on Feb 3rd. If I go into labour myself before then, I will try for a VBAC but otherwise go for the elective.

Because of my high BP (and they have just increased my meds due to a rise) they are concerned about letting me go to far over, and because of my prev CS scar they are reluctant to induce me whould the need arise, so I've kind of got the best of both worlds!

Now we just have to wait and see what happens...

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 13/01/2009 14:11

MOS, Sîan could teach her sister a thing or two at the moment! From 3am we were awake, TBD in one room with Tink and me in the other with Sîan and Tink moving between the two rooms. I had a meeting this morning so was rather tired by the time I got out!

I also had that fear that I would be told at the birth I?d had a boy! As much as I don?t mind, just getting yourself used to it being a girl then finding out it wasn?t after all is quite scary!

Rosie you don?t need the curtain lowered and he doesn?t need to see if he doesn?t want to, they can pass baby around the curtain if they need to. Mobiles have been proven to be safe in hospitals, especially now most of them are digital anyway. I agree it?s mostly about other patients and also how much they make off bedside phones

Thank you, MamaGoose and well done for getting so far! I think there is something about January and February mums on MN; we?ve only got one baby each!!! I would expect far more from January and a few more from February by now.

Dinky, I missed the other thread so it didn?t bother me too much and I knew there would be a reason for it anyway, it?s just the general thing, programmes that replace letters automatically or the TV doing it when it?s obvious what?s there that bother me, I?m not simple! I don?t even swear

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 14:20

Afternoon all. MamaGoose Glad you ok after car accident, how awful!
lardy sorry, I thought you were further along than that or I wouldn't be trying to encourage you!

Saw GP this morning for 36 week check. She agrees (or did to my face) that I should be seeing a mw more often than what I am, and that really the gp's should only be involved in my care where infection is concerned and not as general practise as has been happening. She said she has another 2 pregnant patients who can't stand the mw on my team, so maybe I'm not a difficult, crazy cow-bag myself, it is them .
Have to start another course of anti-bs tomorrow and when they finish (7 day) I have to go on a light dose until after baby born. Doc also wants to send me for GTT as still pcking up glucose in urine.
She also said I look like it could be any day now and the pains I'm getting suggest that it may ne sooner rather than later, but I don't think he'll be here anytime soon, I'm preparing to go over again.

catstar I plan to get to the area on Monday a bit earlier to give ds his lunch. He won't eat bread and can be a bit funny depending on mood, so I will probably treat us to a burger king (very naughty I know) and then head to the meet, and if ds gets ratty, he can snack on cake/fruit and still won't be left out if everyone else is eating.

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 16:13

Where is everyone? Are you all off having your babies or do you have a more interesting RL than me?
Some cheeky sod called my house phone and it woke ds (and me) early, so been sat here ever since whilst he is playing with cars and watching tv. Can't face moving.
Glucose test tomorrow morning but don't have to wait around as they have already done the fasting blood test(? don't know what that means) just have to drink 400ml or lucozade at 7:30, be at hospital for 9:30 and then straight home

dinkystinky · 13/01/2009 16:41

Have been doing that pesky work thing LBB but logging on to MN now for a quick break....

Markstretch - great that you got on so well with your consultant and sounds like you've got the best of both worlds there with your option to VBAC or otherwise a c-sec date set in stone. You must feel really relieved.

LBB - most amused that your GP agreed that the community midwife there wasnt ideal! Good that you got a GP who seems to understand what they're doing with you too now - hopefully all will be well for the rest of your pregnancy now...

thehouseofmirth · 13/01/2009 16:46

I'm here (briefly!) . Freeze now full of bolognaise sauce, chilli, breaded turkey steaks, sausage and pepper pastries and braised lamb chops. I am full of Panettone. I appear to have accidentally eaten a whole one (th emedium size not super-huge ne I hasten to add) by myself.

Sorry to hear about you car accident Mamagoose, scary stuff.

Catstar not sure about highchairs or baby food, I'm afraid so might be best to bring your own (food, not chair, obvioulsy...) I'll be there by 12 and am planning on sneaking in lunchbox for 3 yo DS. The cafe is huge and as long as you are buyig something there I don't think they can object to feeding your own food to little ones.

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 16:47

Work? What's that?
Was quite suprised that doc commented on other patients feelings tbh.
She said she'll see me anytime for anything for this pregnancy as she can see mw aren't being as helpful as could be..... Then she told me to hurry up and have the baby so she can meet him before she leaves in 3 weeks!

MarkStretch · 13/01/2009 16:52

THOM you are making me want to cook....

I am going to start planning my freezer food I think!

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 16:56

THOM Can we all pop round for dinner? All sounds lovely.
Most places would be fine about you bringing own food for lo's if they couldn't provide something appropriate wouldn't they?

swampster · 13/01/2009 17:01

McDreamy, how far are you from Waterloo/RFH? I think a fair few are planning on getting there a bit before midday... If you can make it a bit earlir I will endeavour to be there at 11 then we can watch the fat ladies waddling in together. I will bring a selection of (clean!) cloth nappies for you to stroke... [dangles nappies temptingly in McDreamy's face while blowing Herb a fat raspberry].

I can't for the life of me remember if there are highchairs in the café or not...

MS - great news on VBAC/CS - I think it is really important to feel in control, however your baby comes out.

herbgarden · 13/01/2009 17:06

Hi everyone
lbb ds is 2.5 years and I tend to take a little sandwich and a banana with me if we go out wherever it is - he's not always that interested in food when we're out despite being a good eater and I don't find anyone has ever said anything - you could always say that he has food intolerances so you have to do that if anyone did bother to comment.

Sorry mamagoose about your car accident. not what you need right now is it.

dinky glad you're feeling a bit brighter. Shame you had to go back to work though

I've been to see my friend today who has just put her 3.5 year old twins in beds so had a cot spare. It's a lovely white one with spotless mattress and mattress cover so I'm now sorted....Will get DH to put it up at the weekend so I can see what the room will look like. I think I might officially be "nested" now.

Does anyone remember when they got their "red" book last time (if you already have one or more dc's) - the surgery made me an appointment with the HV for next Monday (without telling me) and it's really inconvenient time but apparently it's just to "talk" through things and give me no2's red book. Not sure about the rest of you but I found the HV's nigh on useless last time so will probably cancel and no doubt the red book will be handed out afterwards ??

LittleMissNorty · 13/01/2009 17:08

Hello Everyone

Glad to hear all is ok Mamagoose....sounds scary!

of your meet-up.....normally I'd come upto London - would only take just over an hour, but the thought of a train with my DD and bump is too much I'm afraid.

I'd be absolutely amazed if the cafe didn't have highchairs.....having spent two weeks in Scotland, we went somewhere every day for lunch and they all had highchairs....and after a while I found the best idea for DDs lunch was to have a tuna jacket potato or similar....sandwich, pannini....and let her eat some of mine....much cheaper! Hope you all have a fab time, and I'll join you all for the post-baby meet-up in the summer.

My DD has just given herself a sore throat by screaming at being offered chicken korma and rice for dinner

I'm FED UP of being pregnant!

herbgarden · 13/01/2009 17:08

Swampy .....might have considered coming but oh the thought of nappy talk has reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllly put me off . I'm off to the cinema again .

littleboyblue · 13/01/2009 17:12

herb I wouldn't have a problem sitting in the Ritz and pulling out a home cooked pasta dish for ds if I wanted to, catstar asked earlier if they did food for the lo's, I'm going to burger king first !
I got redbook after ds was born when he was checked over before discharge. Why would they need to give it to you now?

LMN and everyone else that won't make it,

swampster · 13/01/2009 17:13

[lobs pooey nappy at herbgarden]

dinkystinky · 13/01/2009 17:13

Herbgarden - think I got DS's red book at first health visitor appointment after he was born...
