Congratulations to Ooogs . Welcome baby Luke ! Hope you are both feeling well. Can't wait to hear all about it. I am just back from meeting a different midwife from ususal as my 'midhusband' is on annual leave for a week (selfish git on my due week !) . She was great and talked me and DH through what to do if the baby arrives quickly at home. She was very pragmatic and chilled and I feel very reassured. O and U ,I got my fleece for my washable wipes from Ikea but use some silk liners I bought from ebay.

Calico1 · 20/01/2009 14:50

Lovely news Oooggs! Welcome baby Luke!

McDreamy - I'll let you know about CS date - I might miss you then as I'll be 39 weeks on the 14th Feb

mumoverseas · 20/01/2009 14:51

Hurrah, congratulations Oooggs and welcome to Luke. You can have that Vodka now

mslucyisbeached · 20/01/2009 14:52

c-section definitely on 02/02/09
can someone remove 04/02 from list

really suffering from hardcore brain fog today - finding it hard to do anything at all other than sit here like a big pregnant cabbage.

have told ds I'm not feeling well in a hope he'll calm down for a few minutes before I take him down the road to see a friend.

congrats ooogs and Luke is a WONDERFUL name.

swampster · 20/01/2009 14:55

I'm sure I used to use fleece liners more often because I have a fair few but I honestly can't remember that far back .

I recently got some Bambineo (sp) paper liners from Nappyzone (mumsnetter) or was it Flamesparrow's Bumfluff? Whatever, they are my favourite so far.

DS2 has a 'sluggish bowel' and doesn't poo too often so more often than not he is liner-free.

swampster · 20/01/2009 14:55

So now I' a swermp...

PinkTulips · 20/01/2009 15:01

spotty... both my others were 18hours+ established labour so feel i'm due a short one this time.... right?

onward... i'm not planning on using liners til weaning either, and tbh with ds i pop one in his nappy in the morning if he hasn't pooed yet as i know he'll definitely dirty that nappy but the rest of the day i can't be arsed heaving my fat ass upstairs to get one so he goes without. i'm a complete nappy slut... if it falls off over the toilet so be it but if not it gets chucked in the machine and i kill a few whales prewashing and double rinsing the load

how about; Waxed, trimmed and ready to roll...are you listening babies? it's time to GO!

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 20/01/2009 15:02

You lot really can talk! Looks like we need to start thinking about a new name there?s been over 60 posts while I?ve been catching up!

We?re all good here thanks MrsY. Sîan is still a little jaundiced and we?ll be going back in for retesting on Friday if she?s still yellow, but it?s routine. Her feeding isn?t quite as good as it was in the hospital, but she?s quite sleepy with the jaundice and my let down is so good she doesn?t need to do much. She had a couple of really good feeds last night though and is looking good this morning.

We had the HV come out yesterday, she got in a flap about the jaundice and weight gain, told me to mentally prepare for the fact we may be admitted on Friday. The MW came out afterwards, read what had been written in the Red Book and squealed ?What?!?!? I had the same NN-MW and HV last time, MW is fantastic, she?s very laidback and tells me all the time how well we?re doing. HV tends to flap a lot, TBH I don?t think she?s used to premature babies because she expects them to act the same as a term baby, which isn?t going to happen. Tink got to 6lb 2oz and stayed there for four-weekly weigh-ins, my HV told me I had to top up and she tried to make me cancel my holiday. The MW had stopped visiting by that point so I called them and asked for help, I needed my laidback MW to tell me everything was fine Everything was fine but I had to top-up to keep her off my back so my exclusive breastfeeding had gone from 6 months to 2 months as it took me until two weeks before weaning to get her off of the top-ups. Apparently the MW has come against her before so it sounds like I?m not the only one with this problem.

Tink had an appointment with her paediatrician yesterday, her chest is being kept clear by the amount of medication she?s on but her nose and throat are full of mucus, she has a post nasal drip which is causing all her coughing and snoring (she?s in competition with her dad and granddad!) So she?s been put on Piriton and being referred to an ENT surgeon to see if her adenoids need to come out. Her paediatrician was a little unsure about prescribing Piriton because it causes drowsiness but I was all for it! She?s not sleeping well at night and if this helps her sleeping too I?m all for it.

I?m glad I got to 35 weeks as I don?t feel bad about feeling grateful for not being in late pregnancy! Reading all you are going through is making me feel glad for missing out on it all. I can?t imagine how my PGP would be now if I was still pregnant (well I wouldn?t still be pregnant, my CS was yesterday). I?m jealous about the meet-ups though! Maybe we can arrange something in the Midlands when we?ve got out babies.

TinkerBellesMumandFiFi2 · 20/01/2009 15:02

Pempe and QK, there?s not a lot can be done about PGP (SPD) apart from making sure you are looking after yourself, moving right, not pushing things (ignore SIL Pempe!), padding yourself with pillows (I use a single quilt) in bed etc. To help if you are having a natural birth measure the furthest you can open your legs and make sure that you don?t go beyond that ? especially if you have an epidural. One way to do that is to out a belt around your knees and close it at the point where you can?t go any further. Take it with you to hospital and put it around your knees. Make sure that you don?t get put in stirrups or put your feet on the MW?s hips.

MOS, hope your consultant is understanding. Most PGP goes within 10 days of birth so they will sometimes bring you forward if it?s getting really bad. You can take co-codamol for the pain; I?m now on co-dydramol, which is the next one up and prescription only. I?ve been told, ?It?s not pain relief it?s medication for your back? in other words it needs to be taken every four hours everyday or it?s not going to work. They like you to do the medication thing with paracetamol, then co-codamol if it doesn?t work, if that doesn?t work they?ll prescribe co-dydramol and then there are levels above that which require an antidote to the baby at birth. Crutches are great if you are really struggling to walk unaided they will make a big difference to your life.

Lardy, I?m a big wrap fan; I find with a bad back they?re brilliant. They hold you together and distribute the baby?s weight well. Even if you get over the PGP you will still have about 10 days of it afterwards. I recommend not tucking the ends in at the front as you will get a better hold and it will last longer (I know a lot of people who say not to use them past a certain age, but like that you can use them till older).

MamaGoose, glad to hear you?re still hanging in, how far are you now? I like the nursing tops from H&M, they?re about the same amount as normal tops and don?t look like nursing tops but they?re comfortable and easy to nurse in (even for my now J boobs!). I also recommend not getting rid of the maternity clothes too quickly, the bottoms keep your belly covered (and so comfortable if you?ve had a section) and the tops are loose enough to pull up and keep you covered.

Pempe, have you tried tipping the seat forwards while you bring the cross strap behind it? I?ve found some seatbelts are a little short but haven?t found one that doesn?t work when you do that.

MarkStretch, I cried at the appointment where we booked the section! And when I went into theatre I was shaking rather violently, so much so I was glad when they said they would do a GA because I was scared he?d miss! I think CS is scarier in a way because you have a set date when you know that?s when it will happen, whereas with a normal birth you don?t have one date to dwell on. Pempe, GA isn?t that bad TBH. When it was a Crash Section with no time to talk about things it was awful, but when it was an emergency section we had time to talk about it and I was able to deal with it better. If it can be avoided it should be because it can have an affect on your mental health, but if it can?t be avoided you can work to minimise the affect ? having the baby put straight on your chest so it?s there when you wake up, not dressed or cleaned and discussing everything.

Mslucy, I?ve been in that wind-breaking mode for some time. Tink freaks out when she passes wind because of her constipation so we?ve tried to help her feel more relaxed about it, but obviously it?s worked too well as she squeals and points out ?that was Mummy!?

THOM, it?s supposed to be much better to ingest prostaglandin than to use it direct. Someone in my antenatal class actually asked why it?s used as a gel in that case! Have I said in this group before that the gel isn?t suitable for Muslims and some vegetarians may have a problem with it? It?s something they don?t tell you, but the gel is pig semen.

Congratulations Ooogs! I?m glad I?m not all on my own anymore!

MOS YANBU!

LBB, it?s 7 pineapples I believe. It?s more about the laxative effect that does it so you need to eat loads for it to work. As far as your gas is concerned I would ring them up with your own reading. If you wait you will still have to pay the same amount but in one go, if you think you can manage that later on and like the break now then leave it, otherwise call. My ex used to work for British Gas on the phones and I?ve heard all sorts of stories where they?ve messed up, best to deal with it straight away. Water sounds odd. Is your water just your own or coming from the roof to everyone? Or do you have a gardener who has access to a tap? I?m not LMN?s theory works, because that will be worked into your service charge with the water company. Sounds like you need to have your rent in joint names!

About the ?lady garden? if you don?t do anything else I?d think of cutting the longer hair in the middle as it can get matted in the time after the birth (trying to be polite) I had forgotten that and wished I had done it before, I felt so much better when I did. Getting it done is personal preference, do it for yourself if you want to, don?t do it for anyone else.

KT antenatal class was actually really interesting, TBD didn?t come with me and I noticed the difference when I was talking about things with the doctor or saying that I wanted to try something and he had no idea what I was talking about.

Lol PT, that?s exactly what I was saying for 11 weeks!

O&U I wouldn?t do liners at first, there?s nothing to scrape. Thread title suggestion is good but it was a baby, Sîan came on the last thread!
