I know i'm not due til the 14th but I am having my waxing done today as I can't cope with spending an hr plus trying to reach. Knowing me i'll have another 6 wks before baby shows but if I didn't have it for another few wks I could garuntee he'd come early. Hair do next week, time to start feeling like a human being again I think, I've been whinging so much about the pains and not being ready I need to destress. Not looking forward to the pain of the waxing tho, think I might chicken out of the brazilian and stick to a normal bikini and full leg (I have no idea how she's going to do the backs esp with my pelvis probs so perhaps i'll have half a leg too.) Enjoy your hair apt herbgarden. xx

MarkStretch · 15/01/2009 14:15

I know it's probably wrong to discuss pubic hair and food in the same post but I have just booked a 'shave and tidy' with DH for tonight and written my shopping list for my freezer food cooking

I bought Jamie Oliver's new cookbook and even though I know how to cook it's got some brilliant recipes in. Am going to make a chicken korma and beef and ale stew for the freezer, a lamb rogan josh for DH and I tomorrow night and some smoked mackerel pate to have with crusty bread for tonights supper.

spottyshoes · 15/01/2009 14:35

Mmmm I love mackerel pate, DS used to love it on crusty bread when he was little(r).

PinkTulips · 15/01/2009 15:42

should have taken your advice dinky and sat on my arse...... i can barely move!

have spent all day following weird smells around the house and scrubbing, mopping and hoovering the place to within an inch of its life..... and there still a weird smell lurking in the kitchen.... i emptied the bin, put out the compost, cleaned and mopped and it's still there have resorted to an aromatherapy burner with lemongrass oil in it now as i can't physically do any more

no idea what to do for dinner now, tempted to do pasta for me and the kids and let dp sort himself out seeing as it's him who's difficult!

lol at all you hubbies catching you out, i'm with calico in that i have a mad tidy just as dp is due in the door so that i look tired and the place looks clean when he walks in

mumoverseas · 15/01/2009 15:58

hi all, just quickly popping in as I've just persuaded/bullied DH into driving me to the nearest mall (45 mins away!) as I'm obsessing about baby not having his own toy box as all the ones we have are pink. Its been bugging me for weeks but has got too much now so he has given up for a quiet life!

Calico, sorry you are being mucked/**cked about at the hospital. Don't know if my limited experience ref crappy backs can help?
When I had DS 15 years ago I had back problems although the exact problem was not diagnosed before having him as I coudln't have the necessary xrays/ct/mri scans when pregnant. I had a 19 hour labour with an epidural which I kept saying hadn't worked and the stupid bitch of a midwife kept saying it had. Afterwards when I finally had an mri I found out I had a prolapsed disc and damaged vertabrae and it was confirmed that the epidural wouldn't have worked. I had DD1 3 years later, prior to surgery on my back (bloody NHS waiting lists) by elective CS due to not wanting to have pressure on my back (my back consultant warned against it) anyway, had a spinal block for the CS and that worked really well, no problems at all.
Anyway, with DD2 2 years ago this was AFTER my spinal fusion (L4/5) and again I had a spinal block which worked.

Depending on where your disc problem is you need to think about an elective CS as if it is low down (lumber) that will put a lot of pressure on it. Its crap you are being mucked around as its really important you do what is best for you and your back. Why don't you try to see someone like a chiropractor who may be able to advise if you can't see the anaestatist yet? Its a bloody big decision and I know that my back condition was made worse by my long labour with DS1. Keep on at the hospital and stalk them if needs be. You need answers. (perhaps mention clinical negligence?) Good luck xxx

spotty, 4 HOURS IN HAIRDRESSERS? What are you doing? Waiting for it to grow?

mumoverseas · 15/01/2009 16:02

stupid internet. Tried posting last one before we went out but it didn't go and was still here when we've just got back.
Got my toy boxes so DH is now hoping I'll stop driving him nuts about baby not having one! Also had a yummy thai on way home. Fantastic timing tonight, managed to get into restaurant just before salah (prayer) started which was a result as we were locked in just after we'd ordered and got our food. Love it when a plan works.
Right, off to put baby's toys in his box.

littleboyblue · 15/01/2009 16:09

Afternoon all. Just pooping in to see what everyone else is up to and to mark where I am.
Our flat looks awful, dp on nights so makes it difficult to do any housework.
I also can't be arsed, feeling really down atm, don't want to talk to anyone or do anything and I can't stop crying. Bloody pregnancy and hormones. I also feel really guilty, my mind is going all over the place. I know it's fairly common but I feel really guilty that I cannot 100% guarentee my baby's safety you know?
Anyway enough of that.

I just have to say, my ds really really smells! Something is dying in that gut. I keep going to change his nappy only to find it's just a fart! It's awful. Think it might be the nappies. Tescos skip from a 4+ to a 6 in huggies so have had to get pampers which I think may be retaining odour, has anyone heard that's possible?

mumoverseas · 15/01/2009 16:19

LBB, your litte one will be fine, please try not to worry. Like others have said, the most important thing is that you and your doctors know about the possible problems and can therefore deal with it.
Think we all feel like crying at times, 9 months is a bloody long time and I swear if men had the babies there would only be one child in each family.

Ref nappies, thats a thought. We always use Pampers and quite often I think DD has done a huge poo and there is nothing there. Think she gets wind from her dad, she is a farty little thing. Very unladylike!

PinkTulips · 15/01/2009 16:22

pampers do reek.

don't use sposies often but when i do i avoid pampers like the plague... i don't know what they put in them but it's rank, and they leak way more than other brands.

i use lidl nappies as my emergancy stash and they're very good, ds likes the pics and they absorb loads... they even survive the night with him! plus they're cheap so curb my guilt slightly when my inability to keep on top of the washing means i have to use them

Calico1 · 15/01/2009 16:27

mumoverseas - thanks so much for that info. Your experience sounds very familiar! I feel that I am being given advice just from an obstetric point of view. The registrar this morning couldn't answer my question about whether pushing in labour would result in potentially more damage to my lumber spine. I had an emergency disectomy after the delivery of DS in 2007 as L4 / L5 discs were 'extruded' due to pressure during labour. I had the same thing as you with my epidural - three anaesthetists had a go and couldn't get it in properly but told me it was ok - even though it made no difference to my pain! MRI scan afterwards showed the damage (which has left me with permanent numbness in my left leg). I can't seem to get through to them that I don't just want to wait and see what happens this time in labour!

Last time I was told that I was lucky not to have suffered paralysis and incontinence as as result of the damage... so you can see why I am reluctant to just 'give it a go' without proper advice.

I think I'll see my GP and try and get a referral to see an orthopedic consultant a.s.a.p.

LLB - yes I think Pampers smell odd too - DS is really whiffy if I have to buy those.....

McDreamy - I love that swaddle pod, how cute is that!

dinkystinky · 15/01/2009 16:44

Pink - knew you'd overdo it missus! Definitely go for the pasta option and let DP sort himself out when he gets in after all that hard work you've put in today. Could the funny smell be your drains (I think sense of smell becomes really sensitive in pregnancy and so I get weird smells no one else can smell too).

LBB - we've had that problem when we've put DS in pampers in the past (find huggies pull ups miles better on him smell-wise as we're trying to teach him to take his own nappies/pants up and down in conjunction with getting him interested in the loo (potties hold no interest for him sadly)). Have you tried the Tesco own nappies instead (supposed to be pretty absorbent)? And sorry you're feeling so emotional - sending you big hugs and positive feeling vibes.

Calico - sorry your medics are being so useless! Definitely sounds like an urgent referral from your GP is the way to go.

MoS - glad you got your toy boxes and your thai! Sounds like perfect timing with the restaurant.

spottyshoes · 15/01/2009 16:46

Liked the fact you 'pooped in' LBB - very appropriate

I think all sposies reek but pamper particularly. I use the odd one as they fit in my handbag better than a resuable but buy the Asda cheapies. Have even used their basics range as they are only for emergencies and they do quite well and dont smell too bad

Have you something in the back of a cupboard PT? I found something that I believe may have been a sweet potato in a previous life. It was in a low down cereal cupboard so I didn't bend low enough to spy it originally. DS is always re-arranging the cupboard contents

I have fairly long hair MOS and getting it highlighted, cut and dried takes forever. Not cheap either I tend to have it coloured one time and cut the next as I hate sitting in those sweaty chairs - It's definately not a pamper experience for me!

dinkystinky · 15/01/2009 17:19

Wow - you must have really thick long hair Spotty. I hate the hairdressers - mainly because my hair looks lovely when I'm in there but then awful thereafter... I think they have special mirrors or something..

littleboyblue · 15/01/2009 17:44

I just read my last post back, and after giving myself a fim shake and slap I feel better. I am such a drama queen!!!! It's a good job I already know I am my own favourite subject

Glad to hear I'm not going mad with the nappies, dp thinks I am a proper loon!! I told him it's the nappy that smells and he looked at me like I had 3 heads!

I've just done something naughty, and as wwas having a crap feeling mioment, I bought ds a new toy. That's bad isn't it? I buy him a new toy every time I get really upset/sad, have to stop doing that! But that look of amazement and ore is enough to lighten my mood.
Also got him a big lorry with a car load as a present from the baby....

Calico That sounds awful!

Re: nappies, we have used soooo many different brands as ds has been 'coming through' for quite a while. We had always used pampers but found they couldn't hold much of anything so tried different sizes but still rubbish, then moved onto tescos own nappies and pull-ups, same thing. The only ones we got on really well with was the huggies and my local tescos don't do them in a 5! After this pack of stinkies will def try anotrher brand. Pooping off now, back in a bit

swampster · 15/01/2009 18:36

Evening all.

Here comes a whinge...

I can hardly walk these days. Been hobbling around with my grandmother's walking stick! If I'm not in better shape by Monday I won't be making the meet-up!

Pampers are gross, aren't they? Much prefer Huggies - and Huggies fragrance-free wipes. But when we do use dispicables I like the Nature Babycare ones best. They don't pong, and hold gallons!

herbgarden · 15/01/2009 18:36

I use tesco own brand pull ups and no whiffs here !.....

Took 2 and three quarter hours in the hairdresser - only had a half head of highlights and a rough dry (no cut) at the end but had to get out of the chair a couple of times and when she did the front and I had to lower my head forwards I did wonder whether I might pass out. They sweetly gave me a cushion whilst I was waiting for it to work though as I really wasn't comfortable. Glad it's all done though and I read a tonne of crappy magazines - everyone's obsessed with Cheryl Cole at the moment

My grumpy mood has moved to tearful tonight. I could do with a really good cry - nearly cried in front of my mum before she left. I know she knows I'm now getting nervous about CS and everything else and if she'd have asked me direct before she left tonight I know I'd have blubbed. She didn't want to leave me on my own tonight (DH away) and I was tempted to cart us over to her house to stay but fancied my own telly and an early night....sounds like we're all getting a bit emotional now !

littleboyblue · 15/01/2009 18:39

Hey There swampy. Am also re-thinking monday, don't want to go anywhere that's too far from hospital, prob being overly cautious but will have to see on day I think.

I hate huggies babywipes, I always manage to put my finger through them and end up covered in poo-poo! I also hate the johnsons sensitive ones (with the green lines) far too wet. I have huggies wipe atm because they were BOGOF.

You must look lovely with the stick

littleboyblue · 15/01/2009 18:42

herb poor you, go ahead and have a good cry, you'll feel alot better

rosieposey · 15/01/2009 19:23

Can i join in with the tears?

Utterly fed up and fecked off. DH has gone off skating straight from work and im being really unreasonable and wish that he would come home as havent seen him since 8 this morning. Ive been stuck in all day every day for weeks and im bored, tired and fed up. Added to this the girls do nothing but argue over chores and walking the dogs - they know im not at the top of my game atm so are being asked to help out a bit more and just fight over whos doing what. Ive told them all including DH who ive just had a row with on the phone about selfishly going skating when i feel like shit that they can sod off and cook their own tea, buy their own groceries and do their own shopping. I might keep this up for a few days - as i really feel very underappreciated

Rant over.

thehouseofmirth · 15/01/2009 19:33

Evening everyone!

Sounds like everyone is out of sorts today . I'm not feeling emotional but very tired and not particularly cheered by the prospect of MIL arriving shortly for the weekend...

Do you think we should cancel Monday's meet up if we're all feeling rubbish?

swampster · 15/01/2009 19:36

LBB, the Royal Festival hall is right next to St Thomas's which is one of THE best hospitals for having babies in. Not so great for their post-natal care though - I'm petrified of having to spend any more time there.

dinkymum · 15/01/2009 19:48

Just read a few of your posts and soooo pleased its not just me thats just irrationally short fused and stressed I thought I was cracking up!! I can't remember being this bad with DD but I dont think its helped by the fact that i'm just so ridiculously tired at the moment. But hopefully that will be helped with the start of maternity leave!

swampster · 15/01/2009 19:55

I blame my advanced age - all of you guys who are still under 40 - what's your excuse?

spottyshoes · 15/01/2009 20:10

Oh blardy hell, pregnant, hormonal, ranty women! Tsk - I've never been one of those.

PinkTulips · 15/01/2009 20:18

dinky... no, in the opposite corner of the kitchen than the sink so not the drains.... baffled tbh as there's no food cupboards there either so usually it would be as spotty suggested and a deceased veggie of some description but that doesn't account for it either seems a bit better now after being fumigated with lemongrass oil... either that or i've killed off my sense of smell for the time being... either way it's not annoying me now

i'm another who hates hairdressers... they never fail to give me a migraine so i tend to avoid them like the plague.... have even cut my own hair rather than go into one.... am waiting for my friend who trained as a hairdresser to colour my hair... she refuses to do it while i'm preg as she says the hormones returning to normal after i deliver can do weird things to coloured hair.
