Hi hkz (anyone sussed I am in going to bed avoidance mode again).

Had a graco swing for both DSs and they were worth their weight in gold, particularly while DS2 had colic. It meant we could sit down to a meal together without one of us having to hold the baby and second time around it meant I had time to spend with DS1 while the rocking motion kept DS2 asleep.

Not all babies take to them apparently, but both mine loved theirs and refused to give them up until they were way over the weight limit recommendations.

The full size ones do take up a bit of room, but you can fold them back against the wall. Alternatively there are some lovely smaller and travel sized ones available now. Mamas and Papas Starlight swings are compact and really lovely.

I had no swing last time, but one of those vibrating chairs. I barely used it so sold in as soon as DD was too heavy for it.

what I definitely recommend is one of these. We still use ours and it was great to do weaning in. DD loves it (and you can put it on the kitchen counter to feed the shhhh don't tell anyone I said that). Its made of polystyrene so super easy to clean, and gives them a better posture than a bumbo. And they can't crawl out of it. It is more for 5+ months though, so not a swing. In fact, don't know why I'm posting this now, just got all excited!

moosemama · 06/01/2009 22:34

Well I'm not trying sex. I've done it at least three times already in my life and look where it got me!

hkz · 06/01/2009 22:36

Think it's the way to go Tree...am going to check out the argos website, 20 quid is a bargain...I get very excited by bargains!

I have visions of forgetting DC2 is in the swing and leaving the poor thing in there for hours swinging away quietly while I run around after DD1...

hkz · 06/01/2009 22:39

Thanks for adding me Stripey, my pregnancy brain does not allow me to do anything more technical than make a cup of raspberry leaf tea these days.

fourlittlefeet · 06/01/2009 22:40

right off to try and sleep despite the blinking contractions. another 3 weeks of this may just finish me off.

hkz · 06/01/2009 22:42

FLF, they look good, I like the fact it's got a surface for food/toys. DD1 was not a fan of the bumbo, mind you, she is not a fan of anything that requires her to sit still for more than 30 seconds anyway....

treedelivery · 06/01/2009 22:44

Thanks for adding me.

Had decided you were 1st timer hkz - no idea why though! 2 under 2, all power to you!

Have eaten 13 quality street [ fro sick not for envy you understand]

Relieved to see I am not the only one awake!

Thanks for new thread.

treedelivery · 06/01/2009 22:54

dog [still feels rude] - wouldn't worry. You are unlikely to actually boil yourself iyswim. I haven't ever been told they are a problem as part of my training or experience. But if your heart pounds or you feel lightheaded then you should take care just so your not fainting all over the place!

In labour the pool is kept at body temp to avoid problems with babies leaving body temp -into heat - then into cold air, and to prevent them being born very warm [I believe]

Have yourself a nice warm bath and enjoy. Take chocolate too.

treedelivery · 06/01/2009 22:57

Go on gtdahb - have a bath and some rumpy pumpy and go into labour. Go on...

I laboured in the pool and was soooooo bummed over the temp.Just didn't hit the spot iyswim.

Bloody hit the contractions on the head and the whole thing ground to a halt [got in too early looking back]

moosemama · 06/01/2009 23:01

Right, have been ordered to bed by very grumpy DH who is not only cross that he couldn't get on the internet tonight cos of me, but doesn't want to be woken up in an hour by my impression of an oversized hippo trying to sneak into the bedroom!

Here's hoping everyone gets a good nights' sleep for a change.

Night all!

I have just eaten some kind of super high cal toffee pudding thing and downed a glass of milk and feel disgusting! Was going to go to bed...but can't move off the sofa now.

Dog (I feel like I should add a 'no offence' after calling you that..) I too am a big fan of the hot bath and have kept on having them whilst wandering all the time why I wasn't meant to when pregnant. I am planning a water birth at home and think it might be a bit of a shock to the system in body temp water...especially in our freezing flat... but am also pretty confident that the water temp will prob be the last thing I will be focusing on! Enjoy your bath!

The swing sounds like a good idea, what with a rather large and clumsy dog and a super active dd poor little dc2 doesn't stand a chance on a playmat!

treedelivery · 06/01/2009 23:16

Night Moose, sleep well.

me? - I didn't birth in pool, had to get out as went from mooing like a cow active labour 4cms adn contracting nicely, to chatting about pushchairs in an hour flat!! Needed rupture of memebranes, syntocinon drip, epidural [took hour and half to site, shudder] and dr's stood about holding gloves to get my body to shift her.
It was catching sight of the forceps trolly outside my room that did it, I thought 'right you bs, I'm doing this and you can all feck off' Apparently I shouted that quite alot too.....
Pushed like a star if I do say so myself. Dear God it was some graft though. What a day. What a 22 hour mental day.

When I actually delivered the midwife has since told me - I delivered her head myself [flat on back in all wrong position - the only one I could push well in] plonked her on my tummy and put my hands in the air and yelled 'yes I did it'

How cheesy is that!

Welcome hkz - you'll have a similar age gap to me probably - my ds was due in April 2007 but born in early May, new one is due on 26th so I'll probably be hanging around here for ages yet.

It does seem strange that we've had 9 babies born in December on the thread and none this month and it's nearly 6 Jan already. Hope some of them start to show up soon!

I had my last day at work today, presents include a nice little boxed set of clothes but I think ds1 will be pinching the cuddly frog. I had to get dp to meet me at the tube with ds, who was keen to help unpack my bags.
