Hey ladies, sitting here (on my ball) whilst DS is having a nap (or meant to be) desperately trying to soothe my groin muscles must have been one move too far for Mummy in the park this morning and I had to hobble all the way home, it?s agony!

Mica ? sorry to hear about your BF experience with DD, must have been a worrying time. My DS lost a lot of weight in the early days when the feeding wasn?t working and for months after that I was paranoid about his weight, he always looked so lean compared to other babies (still does actually). That?s incredible that your milk continued for so long. I must have got pg 2 weeks after I stopped BFing DS. I guess there might still have been milk there but as I wasn?t pumping and didn?t feel engorged at all I assumed it had dried up. 4 days of induction! What a nightmare!

Ermintrude ? I remember hearing that about your mouth and tried to keep mine relaxed during labour, have no idea if I managed or not!

Welcome and congrats Anna, there are quite a few of us who have suffered previous losses on here so we know how you feel. Tell us more about yourself how are you feeling?

Ineed ? DS hates his rain cover too but we are lucky and don?t have to use it much.

Flynn ? I did used to go to Aquanatal last pg and it was lovely and relaxing and I did sleep well afterwards. If you are prone to fainting (and many pg women are) then make sure it?s not too hot, I hate the place I go to for DS?s swimming lessons, and I always feel faint there. Apparently drinking tonic water can help with leg cramps, it?s the quinine.

Welcome and congrats to you too Irishmaeve tell us more about you!

Ah that?s lovely Myneaux, congrats! I am currently biased but boys are fab, there is nothing quite like having a son!! I like your names! when out shopping, don?t forget you?ll be given tons of stuff!

Littlesarah ? what are you knitting? I started a wee cardie when I was pg with DS and didn?t get beyond casting on the first bit mind you I haven?t knitted since I was 12!

Dreamy ? I was able to find out at my 12 week scan that I was having a girl this time; it has made it more real! I can empathise on the sinusitis, horrible

June ? glad you are feeling better, sorry about the cold sores though! Ouch!

Cote ? you have a point there, without the protectors I would have had to express and bottle feed and I don?t think I would have continued BFing for as long as I did in the end so it that sense, they were a godsend, they also eased my flow a bit as I think my let down was a bit fast for him. I always leaked so much when I fed that I could collect quite a lot from one side so I was sterilising the collectors, pump and bottles anyway so from that perspective I didn?t find the protectors too much of a bother. Interesting the things you plan to do differently, I am with you on the feeding whenever she cries but I think in saying that I am forgetting how worn out I got from constantly feeding for hours and hours. The best advice I was given from a girl at my BF group was to give DS expressed milk at 6pm and then not give him any from me until 9pm thereby letting my body relax a bit and to let me fill up again. It worked well for us. That was not when he was newborn though, it was when he was about 3 months old and instead of getting sleepy after I?d fed him he was wide awake and I was getting seriously run down! I was a keen follower of the Baby Whisperer and she advocates waiting and listening before rushing in and learning to interpret your baby?s cries. I found all that helpful and very interesting.

Hello Tee how are you feeling these days?

Any views on the First Wheels City Elite Twin? I was looking at it online last night and it has quite a lot of features I like the look of.

MrsMcJnr · 12/01/2009 15:15

Myneaux ? I like JoJoMamanBebe, The White Company and Blooming Marvellous personally

Tee2072 · 12/01/2009 15:25

Isn't Blooming Marvellous in administration? Their website has been down for quite awhile!

I'm doing really well, mrsmcjnr thanks for asking! Baby has been doing cartwheels or perhaps holding a disco in there! And we got the landlord to remove the single bed so we are on our way to a nursery!

I love the furniture at Mamas and Papas, but it is a bit pricey. Has anyone ever used any Ikea nursery furniture? It seems to meet all the health standards, but its so cheap!

flynn1984 · 12/01/2009 15:42

Tee I haven't used the Ikea furniture but was looking at it at my local Ikea. It seems very sturdy and you can get a full matching set including mattress for around £350 but they have cheaper sets too the one i was looking at was called Leksvik

SweetBROODY · 12/01/2009 16:08

I bought mine from mothercare sale...
£130
and I got 10% off with one of the codes someone put up...

MrsMcJnr · 12/01/2009 16:36

Tee - no, really! that's sad

I have an Ikea cot for DS and it's totally fine. I'll be buying furniture from DD from there too, the margins between Ikea and other shops here are even more massive than in the UK!

flynn1984 · 12/01/2009 16:40

I found an article saying they are in administraion which is a shame, was going to order some lovely stuff from the web here's hoping they find a buyer!

daisy5 · 12/01/2009 17:27

myneaux - congrats. I can't wait to find out if I'm having a boy or a girl as, just like you say, somehow it becomes more real, and you can shop and prepare without having to avoid very boyish or very girly things.

june - your baby has a lovely profile. You can really see character in his/her face. Adorable.

tee - you don't have to spend a fortune. It very tempting to do, and we did spend a lot first time around, but babies are little and light. My dh's auntie was telling me that she had twins (how odd to think that in those days you didn't know in advance that you were having twins - two just popped out), and as she only had only bought one basket, the other went in one of their drawers! Well padded I guess.

I was in IKEA this morning buying a white LACK bookcase, which actually doubles really well as massive storage for toys and toy boxes etc. My friend bought one and then they shortened the sides to make it a bit more squarish and it looks fab. If it works I think I might get one for the baby's room. You can always buy bits of material to attach and more fun and funky. Some of the storage I've seen only allows room for such small boxes and already our toy boxes seem to be spilling out over the top with balls and toy planes etc....so appreciated versatile large scale attractive storage.

mrsmcjnr - I like the sound of your Dad's book. My mother researched a non-fiction book and then went to a publisher asking for them to find someone to write it and they told her she had written so much, why didn't she just finish it. I spent two years straining to listen to my favourite tv programs while my mother agonisingly one finger typed the entire thing. At the time, it drove us all insane! Were you brought up in Hong Kong? I'm putting off making a decision on the double buggy and keeping one eye on ebay, as have a feeling I wouldn't be using it for long if I got one, but dd soooo very attached to the buggy at the moment and adverse to walking.

littlesarah - you've just reminded me that I have some lovely wool and knitting needles in the cupboard that my mother gave me when I was last home. I used to love knitting when I was young. My grandmother is from the far north of Scotland and she taught me - the women in her family used to knit as they walked so as not to waste time!!!

BabyWebsites - Here's a few more...... I just came across this company - www.polarnopyret.se - Swedish origins but they sell in England and are quite bold and fun. I like Boden - I know it's very 'Samantha Cameron' but the quality is really good and I'm into their trousers - I usually do two big shops in their sales as not cheap. www.theflowerstork.com - this company is really fun for baby presents, on the pricey side but really cleverly done . I love the starchild shoes although that won't be for a while. I've picked up some great stuff in Zara along the way - otherwise use all the shops already mentioned, oh and Gap too.

Everyone knows NOT TO USE - TWO LEFT FOOT (online website) - don't they - the most evil company that exists with many many lawsuits from unhappy customers who never received their goods.

I'm sorry to everyone who is suffering with aches and ailments. I had a terrible first pregnancy - one neverending headache followed by endless problems (of all kinds) after birth, so am so very very grateful to be feeling happy & healthy this time. I've got a hunch this is going to be a 'walk in the park' compared to last (touch wood - in fact full body hug of wooden desk)!!!!!

Welcome anna, mrspotatochip and maeve.

Oh, the oddest thing happened this morning. I had to drive not far from the clinic where I got my nuchal scan done. I suddenly remembered a remark I had completely forgotton - well actually I forgot one important word...the scanner said 'you have a daughter already don't you?'. I had forgotten she said already - so I think it must be a girl. Will be confirmed next week. Now why doesn't dp like Juliet, Genevieve, Gretchen or Matilda. Instead he is plugging for Emily, Helena or Francesca. I have moments of liking Portia but moments of thinking it is a bit too much. Does anyone know any Portias?

bigcar · 12/01/2009 17:41

Lovely news Myneaux! Have never ordered from them myself, but have heard kiddicare (online) are good, babies r us at toys r us, ikea, argos, tesco, asda, sainsburys, boots etc. Some of these have mother and baby clubs, so if you sign up you can get freebies and money off coupons (boots do a free baby change bag at the moment). Ikea stuff is cheaper, but like all their other bedding stuff, comes up a different size to other places so be careful, good for blankets but sheets and cot bumpers are smaller from ikea so won't necessarily fit a cot bought elsewhere.

Cote, funny how we do things differently second time around

MrsMcJnr, I found the things to look at when looking for a double are width (along with the width of your front door), handle height and weight, it's surprising how much they can all vary. And of course if they fit in your car boot! I did look at the first wheels double last year with a friend and seem to remember it being quite heavy and wide but I think you take the seat units off before folding so that will make a difference but could be a bit of a faff iyswim. I liked the fact you could have the seat units facing whichever way you want and have a carrycot for the baby.

Got my scan on Wednesday, feeling a bit nervous now, don't really know why, baby is moving about loads

daisy5 · 12/01/2009 17:44

bigcar - Good to hear from you. Hope you enjoy your scan. I know what you mean and don't get 'bumped' twice like last time. I am really nervous too but have no real reason to be.

daisy5 · 12/01/2009 17:45

Sorry that didn't make much sense. I meant to say....I hope you don't get 'bumped' like last time.....and I know what you mean about getting nervous - I am too but have no real reason to be.

CoteDAzur · 12/01/2009 17:56

Two Left Feet is indeed the worst retailer I have ever had the misfortune to order from. It says "in stock". You buy. Then weeks and weeks pass, no delivery. You send a mail, and get told they don't have it in stock. Months after the order and many repeat mails, you get your product. By then, your baby has overgrown the item you ordered.

I'm amazed they are still in business. Surely, they can't possibly have any repeat customers.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 18:00

I've taught a few Portias daisy (though one spelled it the same as the car - Porsche... I always wondered if it was where she was conceived like the Beckhams and Brooklyn)... they've all been lovely. Oh, and the character Portia in The Merchant of Venice is fab!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 18:02

I had trouble with Two Left Feet too... they were awful when I bought my Tripp Trapp highchair (got to buy another one for this new one) so I ended up getting it from Back in Action who were much better.

daisy5 · 12/01/2009 18:11

ineedmore - dd has a half brother who dp named after his car!!! So when we were trying to conceive and bought a new car I made sure it was named with the name I had in mind for prospective dd. And guess what our dd is called....tee hee hee (I'm naughty aren't I).

Tee2072 · 12/01/2009 18:22

Very clever daisy!!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 18:51

You have to tell us the name now Daisy!

OP posts:
daisy5 · 12/01/2009 19:11

Thank you, thank you (she takes a bow).

Months previously I had visited an old school friend and her daughter was Claudia - I had thought 'that's the name I would like for my daughter if I had one'.

So then, as mentioned, when we bought our Mini and came to decide on a name, I suggested Claudia. After a few moments he said 'Yes, Claudia Shifter' and I breathed a great sigh of relief.

Once pregnant he asked me 'what shall we call her if it is a girl' and I said 'Claudia off course, after our car' and he replied 'Naturally'....(tee hee hee)

And that is how we agreed to the name on Day 1. One night after several glasses of wine I coughed up the truth, and I think that may be why he is fighting me so much on girls names right now. Maybe I should have kept quiet about my scheming!!!

Clearly we have dropped the Shifter bit!!

Now I am banning myself from this site tonight while I go and get somethings done around the house.

LittleSarah · 12/01/2009 19:15

I am knitting a baby papoose (as seen in Erica Knight's Baby Bloom). It's like we wee knitted sleeping bag with a hood (topped with pom pom), very sweet. Does however mean doing 360 rows of 80 stitches which is not the most exciting.... however they're a couple of gorgeous cardies and hats I'll be doing next!

My granny taught me the basics of knitting but I didn't really get into making stuff until I was pregnant with dd, my dad gave me a very basic pattern book. My dad also is an excellent knitter so has always helped me when I've been stuck.

I really want to do the 'heirloom shawl' which is knitted to look kind of lacy, I'm sure you know the kind of thing. My best mate's ma knitted dd a gorgeous shawl blanket type thing last time. I couldn't manage anything that complex but Im going to give this simpler one a try.

June2009 · 12/01/2009 19:23

daisy thanks for your message re: baby's profile

Is your dd's name Megane?

June2009 · 12/01/2009 19:27

hehe cross posting daisy sorry

MrsMcJnr · 12/01/2009 21:24

Daisy ? I hadn?t thought about that aspect of twins in days gone by, of course! Would you like a copy of the book to read? I?ve got a few copies. My Dad got them printed privately. That?s interesting about your Mum?s book. What was it about? Yes, I was born and brought up in HK, we moved to Spain from there when I was 11yrs Love that about the knitting in the North of Scotland. My Grandpa is from Orkney and it is the kind of thing he?d tell me about Zara is a big hit for clothes for DS now that we are in Spain. LOL about the name debate in your house. There?s that actress Portia de Rossi ? she was in Ally McBeal. I have a friend with a daughter Claudia; she is the most adorable little girl

Bigcar ? I?ve only had good experiences with Kiddicare. Thanks for your advice and the info on the double buggies All the best for Weds (mine is Thurs) like you I am nervous, but I always am!

Littlesarah ? that shawl would be a lovely hand me down

helpivegottogivebirth · 13/01/2009 06:51

MrsMcJnr - I lived on a farm in Orkney until i was 7 (Rousay)! My grandfather's family all came from around St Margaret's Hope. Which island was your grandfather from?

ermintrude13 · 13/01/2009 08:44

Morning all
I was in London all day yesterday (signed up to a lovely new agent - yay! - and went to a literary do I used to really love going to but when i was armed only with orange juice while everyone else was knocking back free wine, it lost it's charm completely . No time to catch up on everything but have scanned this last page and LOL at Daisy's cunning naming scheme. I had a v old Fiat Cinquecento which DD named Blue Cow (moo-er, you CBeebies fans will know what I mean) and DH calls my Corsa Peppermint Patty, so all in all it might be better I I have a boy .

LittleSarah that shawl sounds gorgeous. I knitted a little sleeping bag type thing for my niece in very soft wheat-coloured cotton yarn but didn't give it to my sis in the end because I was worried it looked like a shroud! I might have a look at that and see if some bright buttons would jolly it up a bit!

bigcar · 13/01/2009 10:35

Thanks daisy, i've been a bit naughty and booked myself in with the sonographer this time rather than the consultant so hopefully less chance of getting bumped again! Maybe it's time to change cars again I have a neice called Claudia and have always liked that name Dh and I never agree on names, maybe that has something to so with the fact he would name the baby after any/all of the liverpool fc team/manager whether it's a boy or girl Hope your scan goes well too

Hope your scan goes well too

LittleSarah, that shawl is lovely! ermintrude, maybe a bit of ribbon or some blanket stitch round the edging would look nice. I'm hoping to find some time for knitting, maybe I need to step away from MN
