Hello, I am new here, pregnant and due in June- 26th at the last guess. I've had 2 miscarriages in the past, and although those early weeks are now behind me, I still get anxious and find it hard to believe that it will really all work out ok. So contact here with other women going through the same experiences is a big support.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 09:09

Hi there Anna. Glad to see you on here. Sorry to hear about your two miscarriages, but congratulations for this little one. It must have made you really anxious. There are a few of the girls on here who've been through similar experiences. You're right, it's good to share stuff.

All good here, although the weather is awful and I was planning to go to town. DS HATES his rain cover on the buggy and has a meltdown if I put it over so it's always more of a trauma!! Might give is a miss.... Lots of Cbeebies for DS today methinks.....

Hope you are all well.

flynn1984 · 12/01/2009 09:33

Ineed weather is terrible here too gales and rain not a good mix! Maybe you would have an easier day in the house with Cbeebies on
Excuse my ignorance what is SDP, I have seen it mentioned here a few times but unaware of the condition. Hopefully it wont get as bad for you this time as it was the last (fingers crossed)

Welcome Anna good to see you here. Shame to hear about your previous mc's like Ineed said there are people here who have went through similar experiences so if you want to discuss any worries everyone here is willing to listen and help where we can

Mrspotatochip welcome to you too!

Quick question, my midwife has advised me that aqua natal would be very beneficial to me for weight control and to help the pain I get from pins and needles and numbness in my arms and legs at night time. Has anyone done aqua natal and did it help? Also nearly fainted in tesco yesterday has this happened to any of you and should I be worried?

IrishMaeve · 12/01/2009 10:02

Hi all, I'm pregnant with my first baby and am due 22nd June. I'm 17 weeks today and soo bored of the winter weather!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 10:04

I was going to start Aquanatal last Wed Flynn. I didn't go as it was minus 5 degrees outside and the thought of coming out with wet hear sent me flying under the duvet with the heated blanket on!! Definitely going this week as the physio says it helps with the SPD (unstable pelvis) and it's one of the only things I can do.

Oh, and I get light headed and dizzy sometimes too. Bloody pregnancy! I remember last time, people doing my head in saying 'It's all worth it in the end' and me wanting to punch them in the face.

However I've now discovered it is.... though I'd never say this to anyone as it still does my head in OF COURSE IT BLOODY IS.... DO YOU THINK I'M PUTTING MYSELF THROUGH THIS FOR FUN?... AAAAGH!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 10:06

Oops... 'wet hear' should be 'wet hair'....

Myneaux · 12/01/2009 10:48

morning everyone and hello to all newbies !

Just got back from my 20 week scan and all is well....and its going to be a boy !

am very excited...knowing the sex makes it all seem very real and the best thing is I can start shopping !

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 11:45

Congratulations Myneaux! Boy's are fab! You can start thinking of names now and buy all those little blue babygrows.... so cute!

OP posts:
Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 11:47

OH MY GOD! I just used an incorrect apostrophe and I'm an English teacher..... AAAAGH! That's the worst 'pregnancy brain' thing I've done so far.....

OP posts:
flynn1984 · 12/01/2009 11:50

Congratulations Myneaux on your wonderful scan! it must be great now knowing the sex of the baby as you will feel you can start to bond with your boy...have you thought of any boys names yet?
Can't wait till the 4th feb cannot come quick enough was even contemplating getting a private scan done to see what I'm having....its getting exciting now for everyone some of us are even half way through already, how frightening at how quick time can pass by!!!

LittleSarah · 12/01/2009 11:59

Congrats on your scan Myneaux, that's lovely news!

ermintrude - Thanks for the encouragement, I'd like to finish it this year, so I'll definately be trying!
Never heard the open mouth/vagina analogy but can't wait to tell dh about it later.

Welcome to Anna and Maeve!

I really want to do my yoga dvd today as I have some time, in between cleaning and knitting, however can't seem to get the motivation!

LittleSarah · 12/01/2009 12:00

Argh, too many exclamation marks as ususal!!!!

CoteDAzur · 12/01/2009 12:16

ermintrude - We are lucky that Mayhew's "London Labour and the London Poor" is available in its entirety on Google. Here it is.

I can't find that quote where a 17 yr old new mum says "Was it [childbirth] supposed to hurt?", though. In fact, I searched for the words birth, seventeen, and hurt and there doesn't seem to be any such quote nor any mention of a seventeen year old mum in this book.

Maybe you can help find it. Could you take a look in your copy and give a page number, or the real quote so we can locate it and see the context? Thank you.

CoteDAzur · 12/01/2009 12:41

Tee, re "So, what you are saying cote is that every time someone makes a statement in this thread they need to back it up with proof?"

It is generally a good idea to not make wild claims (like new mum never even heard that childbirth hurts) if one cannot back it up. However, I agree that in a cordial forum like MN 'proof' isn't generally necessary.

However, when I express doubt and ermintrude asks who I am to object - well, yes, I am fully entitled to ask where exactly this 'quote' is.

Here is the entire book in searchable online form. Let's see it. Then we can go back to talking about prams or whatever you find more interesting than Victorian studies that reportedly show childbirth was so very painless that recent mums were unaware it even hurts

dreamydowler · 12/01/2009 12:50

Hi all and welcome to Anna and Maeve. Its all getting very real now we have our first baby boy due congratulations Myneux. I had such awful spd last pregnancy I was on crutches towards the end. So far so good this time but im avoiding long walks and climbing too many stairs. I have my 20 week scan in 2 weeks and cant wait. Ive had really bad sinusitus and been in a lot of pain but it slowly seems to be easing left feeling exhausted though.

June2009 · 12/01/2009 12:51

Hey Myneaux, congrats on your scan :D

Have any of you put pics of your scans on the net?
I'm trying to not expect too much from the nhs scan next week as my first one was disappointing enough for me to book a private one at 15w here

Symptoms wise my cold is practically gone - Yay I can breathe again! No more itching either, will try moisturiser anyway.
In compensation for getting better I've been feeling nauseaous after each meal all weekend and another 3(!) cold sores have come up simultaneously today, no kissing for me this week

Has getting back to work been really depressing for everybody? I'm still finding it hard and can't seem to be able to get my head round anything properly, my mood is up and down like a yoyo.

Tee2072 · 12/01/2009 12:54

Whoohoo Myneaux. Boys are so cool!

Welcome to the newbies, glad to have you with us.

cote have you ever heard the expression 'beating a dead horse'? Because leave the poor animal alone at this point and move on. Personally I was bored with this conversation 2 days ago. And I would imagine so were most people.

Can't wait for 3rd Feb when I have my 20 week! Just a regular antenatal for me tomorrow.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 12/01/2009 12:59

That's great that you have managed to avoid the SPD this time round dreamy. Mine reared its ugly head around week 13 (my friend also had chronic SPD with her first preg and didn't get it at all second time round). Hope you avoid the crutches this time round xx

MrsMcJr - Yes, the nipple shields were a bit of a hassle, especially re sterilisation & trying to use discreetly, but without them I would have stopped BF after a few days because DD had munched my nipples raw by then. I have quite the opposite problem - too much of a nipple - which meant newborn DD was more than happy to just chew/suckle on them, rather than latching on properly.

So many things I intend to do differently this time, and BF is but one: I will put baby to breast whenever he cries (rather than "no sooner than 2 hours" according to prevalent view here in France). Others include:

  • put baby on tummy often during the day from birth (I didn't know I was supposed to with DD. She never crawled and was very late to pull up and walk)
  • wear sling (first days/weeks of pushing a tiny baby in a huge pram, with all the assorted accessories was so unnecessary)
  • practice benign neglect - don't run to baby/toddler whenever he makes a peep & let him try to reach/grasp/move towards things on his own
  • take baby to baby group at 2-3 months as socialisation doesn't necessarily start when they can move about and play (didn't do this with DD until she was about 1, and she was scared of other kids, which took a long time to overcome)
  • always put on clothes just a little too large so baby can move freely (one more thing I blame myself re DD's delayed large motor skills )
  • maybe do a bit of vegetable purees but switch very quickly to whatever we are eating, and don't miss that window of opportunity where baby actually wants to eat what adults have on their plates (did purees & mashed stuff for too long with DD, and it's been very hard to make the transition to what we eat - still a bit of a struggle)

Oh there is more, but you get the idea

Myneaux · 12/01/2009 14:52

many thanks for all your congratualtions....I am so happy I cant keep the stupid grin off my face.

The weird thing is that I really didnt care whether little bean was a girl or a boy....but all of a sudden its dawned on me that im actually having a baby !!! Yay !!!

We are thinking of Dylan (DH's choice) or Zach (mine)....but we have a bit of a stand off at the moment as we are each waiting for the other to give in.

Off to mothercare to celebrate and spend lots of cash that I dont have !

flynn1984 · 12/01/2009 15:00

Myneaux lovely names I like Dylan but Zach is very nice too
Enjoy spending all your cash is mothercare DH has already barred me from spending any more money in there...not that i listen to him

Myneaux · 12/01/2009 15:04

It could be worse....you could do far more damage to the credit card in mamas and papas !

flynn1984 · 12/01/2009 15:05

Myneaux That's what I keep telling him...

Tee2072 · 12/01/2009 15:06

OMG I could totally break the bank in Mamas and Papas! All of their things are so lovely!

Myneaux · 12/01/2009 15:12

Are there any other good places to look for baby things?....am thinking mainly bedding, clothes etc rather than cots and puschairs.

Have not had to shop for baby things before so Im clueless !
