bigcar -ooh, blanket stitch is an excellent idea, and something I can actually do! (I'm fine at all the knitting bits but rubbish at finishing touches).

Hope your scan goes well and that you get a good look at little Rafael Stephen Robbie Diego Fernando Jermaine

bigcar · 13/01/2009 11:15

Thanks ermintrude, I was in need of a giggle

flynn1984 · 13/01/2009 11:57

Morning all!

Good luck to everyone who has scans today, hope all goes well

Just back from aqua natal class it was fab! Shame I had to come back to work, could easily go for a nap after that
Trying to decide whether to go to karate tonight for light exercises or if aqua natal is enough exercise for 1 day...decisions decisions lol

Tee2072 · 13/01/2009 12:40

Hi all

No scan for me today, just a trip to the OB and the Endo. I will probably be in the waiting room for hours. At least I get to leave work early!

LittleSarah · 13/01/2009 12:42

Flynn - You put me to shame woman! Although I am planning to go to my yoga today. Have work, then midwife, then yoga, then a meeting about my freelance restaurant reviews I'll be doing for the next couple of months... going to be knackered when I get back at 7! Then I have a v early start tomorrow as I have a conference out of town.... Oh well!

bigcar, ermintrude, MsMcJnr* - thanks for the comments on the shall, I think it's lovely too. You've definately decided me, that will be done next!

ermintrude - Poor you knitting your niece a shroud , good ideas from *bigcar", my papoose is creamy white, but the hood bit will be trimmed with dark turquoise and have a matching pompom so hopefully I'll avoid that look!

Going to ask midwife about 20 week scans today but have a feeling she will be as clueless as my cousin's was. In that case I might have to stop being a pregnant lady and start being a journalist and do a bit of digging... After all if you annouce that from Jan 2009 you will have 20 week scans, should women not then get a 20 week scan from January?!

queenofpuddings · 13/01/2009 14:37

back from midwife today who says it looks like we might be having another big baby, I am 18+4 but measuring 22!!!!

MrsMcJnr · 13/01/2009 16:16

Help ? that must have been a lovely early existence! My grandpa is from Kirkwall but he hasn?t got any family left there now sadly he left Orkney with the army many moons ago! I so regret never having been, I wanted to take him up there last year so he could show me around but the flights were so expensive from Edinburgh and the drive is too long for him now.

Ermintrude ? interesting day for you though yes, I can see where you are coming from. It?s like being dry at a Scottish wedding; they are not quite the same without booze! LOL at the car names, maybe a boy would be best then! any name ideas with you?

Bigcar ? my DH has a fascination with that actor Benicio del Toro and if he had his way our children would be named after characters he has played, he doesn?t quite get that Benicio McKenzie sounds like an international law firm! All the best for tomorrow

Flynn ? defo enough exercise for one day! glad you enjoyed it.

Tee ? hope you appointments go well today.

Littlesarah ? would love to know which restaurants you are reviewing! bet I know (and sorely miss ) some of them. You go get that scan girl!

Queen ? wow! is that based on fundal height? Funny here in Spain, they never even measure that! Might have to do so myself as I feel like I am bigger this time round.

Tee2072 · 13/01/2009 16:43

Back from doc. Endo happy with BG levels. Did get a quick scan, just to take a peek, everything going along fine, measuring right on! Blood pressure good. So I'm moving along!

LittleSarah · 13/01/2009 16:48

Looks like I should get a scan!! Yeah! But typically it's not going to be easy...

First off new midwife wanted to know why old midwife hadn't booked me in when she took my bloods before Christmas. I explained that she hadn't really known what to do when I told her I was moving and thought they might just end up doing it all again anyway....

Then she asks if old midwife mentioned anomaly scan? Nope. Hmmmm, well she says, the thing is I need to give you documentation to read before we book you in for it and I don't have the documentation here, we don't bring it to the clinics (?). I get a bit worried when she then mentioned me being close to the time limit or something...

Anyway, result is I'm half booked in. She's hoping to come round (or to send another midwife round) for home birth booking in on Friday afternoon, then I will finish booking, see documentation and midwives can book anomaly scan next week. PHEW. (Fingers crossed basically).

MrsMcJnr - I am actually reviewing bar and pub food! You get a section and that is my section this year, I have to stress though it is the good bar and pub food we look at. iIt is an eating and drinking guide for the city so we have to think everything that gets in is pretty good if not great.

Some places we have in our sections (that have been around a while - can't remember how long ago you moved): The Cambridge Bar, Hectors, Cafe Royal Circle Bar, The Caley Sample Room, City Cafe, Cameo Bar, The Crammond Inn, Indigo (yard) and The Sheep Heid Inn. I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet, should be doing 3 this week though, but some definately better than others!

MrsMcJnr · 13/01/2009 16:59

Only moved in May LittleSarah so know all those places, old haunts most of them. Showing my age but I helped train the first members of staff at Indigo (I worked in Montys for years when I was a student) I know the owners of The Cambridge too. Great about the scan

LittleSarah · 13/01/2009 18:40

Lol, well will definately be doing The Cambridge!

queenofpuddings · 13/01/2009 19:01

mrs mcj- yes thats based on fundal height have a 20 week scan at end of next week so hopefully they can tell me more

daisy5 · 14/01/2009 10:17

I lived in Edinburgh for a year, a few years back. Is Indigo Yard that place where they used to sell jugs of Margarita's? Or was that somewhere nearby. My brother loved Margaritas and when he visited would lure us there.

mrsmcjnr - would love to read your Dad's book. Guess what, just booked our 2 week holiday to Spain in September. We wanted our favourite place on the Costa de la Luz (been there twice) and it fills up quick. Nice to already have a holiday to look forward to.

littlesarah - I love the sound of your knitting - thanks for the link. You have inspired me.

queen - I guess you won't be going over your due date then?

tee - good to hear that your levels are all fine.

ermintrude - glad you endorse my sneaky baby naming. At the moment it looks as though if we have a boy, it will be named after our teddy bear! I think Peppermint Patty has a lovely sing-song ring to it - certainly unique.

bigcar - clever planning not to get bumped. Tell us how it goes. Glad you like my dd's name It's always nice to hear when people like it.

Right, I have put my daughter in nursery for the whole day. I have my photography half year assignment to complete, my tax return and a huge pile of paperwork, so tell me off if I write anything else on this site for the rest of the day!!!

bigcar · 14/01/2009 11:45

My cunning plan worked! I got my scan this morning and on time as well! Apart from baby being a bit camera shy, everything was fine The photos aren't that good due to baby lying across and curled up but tbh I don't really care, just relieved everything looked good So hopefully won't need to book with the consultant until about week 34 now which is a huge relief. And to top it all off, dd3 was an absolute angel and was very well behaved.

MrsMcJnr, I was thinking Benicio Del Who? But have googled and realised I do know who he is, i'm so rubbish with names! Definitely prefer him without the beard though I always worry about naming a baby after someone famous in case they then go off and totally disgrace themselves

Daisy, hope you get that work done!

LittleSarah, fingers crossed you get your scan, at least it sounds like someone knows what's going on!

Tee, good to hear all is going well

June2009 · 14/01/2009 11:55

daisy5 We have a yearly family party every September in France and I've been telling relatives that we're really going to try and make it as for a lot of them this is the only opoortunity we get to see eachother at all!
I'm a little anxious about travelling with a 3 months old baby. I don't know how we'll feel about it then, one of my friends said she had to bf every 2 hours for the first 3 months so I haven't booked our flights yet.

Do you know how to the the baby's passport sorted? I'm guessing it's the same as adults (without the utility bills as proof of address :S).

In other news dh felt the baby move yesterday night for the first time :D (he's taken to sleeping with his hands on my belly nowadays just in case!)

daisy5 · 14/01/2009 12:26

We went out to France when dd was 3 months. We were exhausted and needed a break. We flew out on the day of the World Cup semi final's and (1) almost missed the flight due to staff not turning up and long queues at check-in (2) my bag and dd's bag got mislaid for 3 days, and (3) the carseat in our car rental was for a 9month -4 year old and looked about 20 years old and we had to battle to get a different one.

All this taken into consideration, it was a good idea to get away, and we felt better for the break.

To answer your questions:
I had printed off all the passport paperwork beforehand and knew what was required. Birth certificate is the important one obviously - and fresh off the press. I got the photo taken at about 6 weeks I think - the requirements for an infants photo are a little less strict. I had to go back to the photographers twice as first time was a disaster. Best after just woken and feed I found. I had to put my hand up the back of her jersey to keep her head up. I did breastfeed - on the plane I think - I was by the window so no one could see me. I had just introduced one bottle of formula per day so had one at the ready in case. I had considered going by train but am glad we flew as only 1-2 hours in the air was a good amount of time.

I had read some useful sites on travelling with children and had put enough things in her travelbag just in case the luggage was lost (which it was). We got 100euros in cash from BA (had to really push for it, they wanted us to send in the receipts at a later stage and we wouldn't have a bar of it) and used this to buy another swim suit, some nappies etc.

When they didn't have a proper car seat, we said then we wouldn't go with their rental company and went off in search of someone who did have a baby seat. They then chased us and eventually borried one from another rental company. You can take hour own on the plane, something we hadn't thought of as the car rental ones can be pretty dismal.

It's not everyone's cup of tea. Some of my friends refuse to leave the country. Personally, I enjoyed it. Some hassles but the joy of breastfeeding in a hammock, overlooking a swimming pool with birds twittering was utter bliss.

ermintrude13 · 14/01/2009 13:02

mrsmc - Che would be a cool name for a boy and he could get lots of personalised tee-shirts!

daisy, I flew with 4 month old baby but only to Edinburgh, and she was a constant b/feeder. It was a boon on the plane since she just fed most of the way and didn't notice the change in pressure or anything. They're nicely portable in a sling at that age and as long as you have a well-packed changing bag - which will be second nature by then! - and a helpful DH or someone around - you should be fine. By then you'll be a dab hand at popping the baby under your shirt and positioning a muslin square over your shoulder at the drop of a hat anyway! Hope you don't miss the picnic; it sounds like a lovely event.

ermintrude13 · 14/01/2009 13:03

I meant to address the travel remarks to June not daisy - sorry! But Daisy has given you a v full answer anyway.

and bigcar, good news about the scan

feb80 · 14/01/2009 15:55

Hello all,

Am joining this thread a little belatedly as frankly the number of messages made my eyes boggle and I didn't think I'd be able to keep up! But now I have got used to MN I thought I'd pop my head in and say hi.

Due on 30 June so if there's an updated list anywhere I'm happy to be featured... right at the end.

I have 16 week appt with midwife tomorrow, hoping she'll listen to the baby's heart because other than horrid MS which is still going strong (urgh) I sometimes find it hard to believe I'm pregnant. But I'm sure you've all covered the same weeks ago on this thread so apologies for any repetition!

Anyway hope everyone is well and I look forward to the journey with you.

xx

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 14/01/2009 16:20

Hi feb. Nice to see you. It's amazing how many of us there are (and how much we can prattle on! ) Sorry to hear about your MS. There are a few of us on here who are still getting it. I had it horrendously with DS (though have escaped the worst with this pregnancy). Hope it settles soon and you get to hear the heartbeat. It's brilliant!

Walked round town this morning and I'm bloody paying for it now. My SPD's really flaring up. Grr. I'm off to aqua natal this eve so I should be getting some exercise that doesn't aggravate it.

GAP have a FAB sale! I bought a pair of gorgeous jeans for a fiver and a lovely snuggly jumper for a fiver too. Brilliant (maybe it was worth the SPD pain after all....)

OP posts:
chocciedooby · 14/01/2009 18:15

Welcome Feb and congratulations.
I am still suffering from nausea at 17+6 but at least I am not being sick. Feel really tired so the 2 seem to be combined for me.
Hope that you feel better soon.
That SPD must be awful Ineed. Before I fell pregnant I had been having treatments with an osteopath and had been told that my pelvis is rotated back and sideways. I feel ok at the moment but am a bit anxious as to if I will be in pain at later stages.
I have also been thinking about booking a holiday june but not sure whether to go at Easter before 3rd baby comes along or mid August when the baby is 2 months old?! Anyone else taken a young baby away and where did you go to?

Tee2072 · 14/01/2009 18:17

Another argument for Maternity leave starting the moment you get the BFP...got home from work, DH made a comment, not even a mean or teasing comment, and I burst into tears because I am so tired.

Welcome feb.

chocciedooby · 14/01/2009 18:28

Arrrh Tee. Hope you manage to put your feet up. Get DH to do all that needs to be done tonight.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 14/01/2009 18:47

Hi all

Haven't posted for a while as am ill (again!!!!) this time have cold type symptoms with sinusitis now going down to my chest. DD1 brought it home from her 1st week back at pre-school and has (again) been V generous and now the whole family is suffering...

Still on the positive front have stopped taking the anti-emetics (for MS) and although I have the odd gag with cough it does seem to have impreoved.... only took til 20weeks

dasiy am intrigued where you are going to as dh and I love the costa de la Luz please tell and amke me v jealous (I lived in Gib for a few years so used to weekend there)

tee big hugs, after working through the last two, being a sahm is so so so much better for pregnacy, doesn't help you but I am in complete agreement!
Oh and as a consequnce I first flew with dd1 whe she was 6 weeks old (to show her off to family in the uk!) Not that difficult at that age imo much harder once they're mobile and want entertaining and get bored sitting in the seats etc, need a wee wee when the seatbelt lights on, need i go on. At take off and landing I bf and virtually no one knew ( oh and I was traveling alone and loads of people offered help (had buggy, carseat, suitcase, kitchen sink....I did learn to travel lighter)

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 14/01/2009 18:50

Sorry didn't check befor posting the stuff on flying was supposed to come after my coment to daisy
