Oh Doris you really have been through such a tough time this week! Am so sorry to hear you've had such dramas, although v glad to hear your little one is pooing as she should (you know what I mean). Hopefully you can have a nice relax and have long hot shower or foot massage or chocolate. Or all of the above!

We just bought a monster box of Ferrero Rochers. DH was too scared to protest, prob in case I sat on him or burst into tears. Either is possible, and pretty terrifying!

Agree, too Doris, am also 24 weeks now and thrilled to think that my baby girl would hopefully be alright if she needed to arrive early. Lets hope we all reach this milestone v soon!

Time to start on the chocolates...

ermintrude13 · 10/02/2009 20:35

DorisisaPinkDragon how awful for your poor DD and her x-rayed bum! Glad she's home and hope all her innards are working properly. You must be knackered though, sleeping in the hospital with her. Can you get at least a bit of rest now?

I've heard those concerns about carseats. I think that they're great for putting onto supermarket trolleys and the odd quick trip out when not in a car but anything longer and the babe needs to be able to straighten its spine. I've never used a system, partly because for most short walking trips I had the babe in a sling until they were around 6 months old. Not sure I'm strong enough for that these days though.

Tee2072 · 10/02/2009 20:40

Doris how horrible. Glad she's better now and home. You get some rest!

chocciedooby · 10/02/2009 20:57

Hey ladies. Congrats on reaching 24 weeks. I am nearly 22 and am excited about that!

So sorry to hear about your DD Doris. Hope you manage to get some rest.

Re: travel system car seats - I bought the Jane Matrix Cup as it lays flat. It is quite a heavy car seat but slots straight into the pushchair chassis. I am hoping it is going to be great when taking baby out for shopping trips etc. Can move straight from car to chassis without any other and baby happily sleep

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 10/02/2009 21:16

Sorry to hear about your horrible time Doris. I spent 24 hours in with DS with suspected meningitis when he was 6 months and it's so miserable. I can't imagine staying for a whole week. You do kind of go into autopilot though, don't you? Your body just seems to cope. Glad that she seems better now. I hope she keeps pooing!

I'll be 24 weeks on Fri and really excited. What a milestone to reach. Can't believe that some babies are born, and survive, that early. How frightening.

Had a SHITE day today. Everything seemed to go wrong (An hour and a half to get to work - normally a 25 min journey - kids at work were bastards, some horrible guy at work had a go at me and I was all pregnant and emotional in my reaction, DH at work til late tonught so had the 'witching hour' and bath with DS on own with Tesco arriving at the same time and nasty phonecall with BT). It culminated in realising that some bastard has been stealing money from me via my Paypal account. It's only about $20 in small amounts, but still annoying. AAAAAGH!!!!

Oh well. Keep smiling ladies!

evening all

doris sorry to hear your LO wasn't keeping good, I hope she is ok now and that you are able to take some much needed rest and relaxation x

Congrats to all reaching 24 weeks, I'm 22 on Saturday and can't wait to reach the next all important milestone of 24 weeks as bunnymother says its good to know that if baby was to come on or just after 24 weeks she would have a greater chance of survival!

On the subject of car seats cn anyone tell me if the Silver Cross Ventura one is any good? My brother gave me the ventura seat he used for his daughter (who turns 2 in march) it fits onto my pram chassis that I have ordered (Silver Cross Linear)
I was originally looking at the from birth to 3yrs car seat but was unsure of what to buy

Juicygirlpink · 11/02/2009 07:28

Morning all!

Awful night sleep awake by 5.30 then getting kicked from 6 onwards which make me

Doris- glad to hear that your dd is on the mend, what a trauma bless her- bet you are happy to be home

i am 24 weeks on monday - looking forward to that biggy too

june & bunny & everyone else - I am going to have a hunt for that baby show discount code today & i will post it when i find it!

re car seats, we have bought the maxi cosi one, i think it is expected to last until about 12 months (unless baby is a whopper!) at which point we need to buy another one that will last through to 3 years. it was about 100 gbp i think, but we didn't seem to get much choice as to what can attach to the bugaboo chassis! note- they made this car seat in a wonderful turquoise colour - dh had been so shocked by my choice of sunshine yellow with denim base that he refused point blank to get it so dc will be in a boring black one!!!

Oh went to my new pg yoga class last night- very good! Mummies were very friendly , we did this thing of making a 'lotus' flower with our hands at the end of the session then making a wish into it- it was very touching!

ineedmore- what a crappy day! sorry hun that sucks! How on earth is someone managing to steal your paypal money? will you be able to get it back? & all these horrible people at work giving you ''shit'' a hard time all day? If i can cry at an advert or 'making a lotus flower' I would be hysterical! Did you manage to see your dp last night or was he home too late? As the name says you need choc as we cant have wine right now!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 11/02/2009 07:52

Thanks Juicygirlpink. I think Paypal are sorting it, and it should be back in in a week or two. DH came home about 9.30 so we had half an hour before I crashed. He's home earlier tonight while I swan off (more like hippo than swan, actually) to 'Dunk Your Bumps' so he gets the bath and stuff on his own. Bliss. Guy at work was being an arse, which is not unusual. When not pregnant, I would have given him short-thrift but, instead, stood there with my mouth open gaping like a fish and then got mad when he left. I feel like Superman when kryptonite takes all his power. I've lost my sharp-edged tongue and come-backs.... grr..... your yoga sounds lovely, very chilled!

Feel better today, so all is good. I slept like a log, I think all that stress from yesterday wiped me out! Got my baby-group round today with all their toddlers so baked a lemon drizzle cake yesterday evening. Not quite sure how I'm not going to be able to tuck in before they arrive!!

Have a great day people xx

sounds yummy Ineed. Any chance of the recipe??

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 11/02/2009 08:19

It's an all-in-one, so dead easy. I use this one. It's delicious, and very, very easy!

daisy5 · 11/02/2009 10:16

Morning ladies

BabyShow - when I was there, there were some good offers on prams etc at some stands. If you knew that was the pram you wanted it was a way to save money. Don't buy anything from TWO LEFT FEET. They exhibit there and are thieves - some people never ever see the goods they paid for. They have been on TV for this, but still in business and can offer really good deals to entice you.

Babygros - Some of my friends bought 'newborn' clothes but had larger babies and were already too big for the clothes. They wish they had just bought 0-3 month clothes. But obviously for smaller/regular babies newborn fits when born - but only for a few weeks, so personally I wouldn't buy much in 'newborn' size.

Doris - you poor dear. What a rough time you have had. I hope it all calms down although I realise cystic fibrosis is brutal at times . Definitely in need of chocolates - sending you an imaginary box of Thorntons and some hugs.

PregnancyClothes - I bought an enormous jersey from Monsoon that is also kind fun and a teency bit trendy. Just has tiny short arms and tonnes of jersey. Will definitely last me till giving birth (in fact I could be having quadruplets and it would still fit) and I will live in it with my leggings and boots. £50 though, so little pricey but shall wear almost daily so perfect, and still wearable afterwards.

CarSeats - my dd was a bit of an exception - as she had reflux for 4 months, she was better upright and most of her good sleeps were in carseats and on those rocking swing thingies. For several weeks she slept through the night in an upright rocking chair as otherwise, crying and pain of acid in her throat - poor thing.

juicy - the Britax 1-2-3 Evolva carseat lasts from 1 year to about 9 years and is brilliant - we have one and are really impressed. You just have to do a few things to it at 3 years to adapt it.

Ineedmore - sorry to hear about your challenging day. I love lemon cakes - you've reminded me that I used to whip up some lovely lemon muffins before dd came along.

Juicygirlpink · 11/02/2009 10:38

i need more- going to give the cake a try to!
Glad you will be getting your money back- not what you need on top of everything else!

so i have flicked through my 50 million magazines & booked my tickets to the baby show- we are going on the sunday. here is the code EX70, tickets are usually 11.50 in advance & 13.50 on the door this code gives you a 50p discount- thats it, I am sure I read it before & it was like 2-3GBP discount oh well, every penny count

daisy - thanks for the tip on the thieves that are 'two left feet'- we will avoid them like the plague!!
Did you get your monsoon top recently, I may have to invest in one, I have been wearing the m&s maternity leggings (9.50GBP) since pg day 1 & dh bought be some flat knee high boot for xmas so that top sounds like my sort of thing!

Another tip on pregnancy clothes - blooming marvellous website has re-appeared they seem to be getting rid of all their stock now its really cheap ( i have the grey & black top, its really comfy)

daisy5 · 11/02/2009 10:53

juicy - it's this one. www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/43010788&bklist=icat,5,shop,women,womenknitwear,newomanknit. Unfortunately only in navy - I would have preferred deep purple or something more lively. It says handwash only, but with just 10% angora I am certain a woolen wash, or even 30oC will be fine. I am living in it at the moment

MrsMcJnr · 11/02/2009 15:57

Hello ladies damn headaches are really getting to me! had to go to bed again last night just after DS. Luckily I have an AN appointment tomorrow so will mention them. Think they might be due to stress though, DH?s job is very wobbly (not enough income coming into business and my parents have to ask their business partners to contribute and I?m scared they?ll sack DH to cut costs ) on top of that, our landlord told us last night that our flat is going to be repossessed! now in the UK I?d know my rights as a tenant but not here. We do plan to move before mid April anyway and I?d be very surprised if the Spanish Bank acts fast on this but it is unsettling all the same anyway?.

Took DS to soft play this morning. He had such a ball. We hadn?t been for a month and the difference between what he could do then and now is amazing. He loved being on the trampoline and the slides etc there was a girl there I sort of know with a newborn. She has a 2 yr old too. She was full of woe and saying how hard it is etc etc I am sure it is but I was a bit annoyed with her, she could see I was pregnant and that I have a wee one and I felt she should still be rejoicing that her baby has arrived safe and sound and at least had something positive to tell me but she didn?t! Her baby seemed good as gold anyway, slept from 11-1 without a peep! Apparently she sleeps a lot at night too. I can?t believe I?ll have another tiny one of my own soon

Now a catch up?.

flynn1984 · 11/02/2009 16:27

Mrsmcjnr sorry to hear about the unsettling situation your family faces just now, I hope everything works out for you and DH and your move back to UK in April goes well. Sorry to hear about your headaches, hopefully MW can help you tomorrow at your appointment.

I was playing in the snow last night with my nephews and all that kept going through my mind was the excitment I'll feel playing in the snow with my daughter in a few years time

Hiya to everyone else will catch up on posts when I get home...going to use my new laptop it'll be weird posting from the comfort of my bed, DH is working tonight so it's me my laptop and MN

June2009 · 11/02/2009 17:38

wow daisy I just had to say your story is truly inspiring, we've had our fair share of stress recently and knowing that you can come out of it alive and well, AND having another baby is somewhat comforting!

MrsMcJnr Sorry to hear about your dh's troubles at work, not knowing is really unsettling, is he still going to work for your parents once you relocate in April? Can you ask your parents outright what they think might happen?
The stress probably is what is causing your headache. I used to get bad migraines quite often before being pg. Unfortunately there wasn't much I could do to get them to go away, lots of water and sleep, put your feet up.

Now if I get stressed I try and do something engaging for a while, like play a poker tournament online (fake money) or cook something from scratch, tidy/clean something up or look up baby stuff and try and find a bargain!
Usually after a couple of days I have figured out a way to handle what is causing stress, or found some kind of solution to the problem. It feels like a constant battle sometimes.

The physio department called today about my spd and I have an appointment in 2 weeks time. Long time to wait, better than nothing though.

The baby has been kicking every day evreytime I go to bed in the evening and sometimes during the day which is just great.
I ordered the other doppler from amazon flynn thanks for your recommendation, it's had good reviews so we decided to go for it.
The one we got from tescos was the "summer" one which seems to have bad reviews (impulse purchase from us, should have known better really.), we thought it was rubbish too.

Thanks for the coupon code juicy and the tip on blooming marvellous, will have a look on there this week. Hope you recovered from your sleepless night!

That's all I have time to catch up with for now!

LittleSarah · 11/02/2009 18:49

June - Yup I have an angelsounds doppler and I also add my reccommendation, you'll love it!

MrsMcJnr - Poor you! It's a nightmare when you don't know what's going on, I hope it all gets sorted out soon.

Dinners ready, will write more later.

LittleSarah · 11/02/2009 19:44

juicy - I must check out Blooming Marvellous!

MrsMcJnr · 11/02/2009 19:59

Flynn ? how is the snow with you now? We have friends coming over from Scotland on Sat for a long weekend, hope it stays sunny for them here. On the subject of Godparents, I have them picked out for all the 4 kids I plan to have each time DH gets to pick a couple and so do I but now my planning is up the spout as a very good friend who in the past I would have wanted as a Godmother but then decided against because her DH didn?t like DH and I (and we figured we?d probably lose contact soon ) is now getting divorced! I was watching that episode of ?Friends? last night where Rachel is overdue with Emma and gets furious with anyone and anything, it reminded me how annoying I found everything my PIL said last pg irritating don?t know that car seat sorry. I would say though that if you are planning more kids it might not be worth getting a car seat that works until the child is 3 from a space in the car perspective as they tend to be bigger. Thanks for your kind words no, no not moving back to the UK, just to another apartment I hope!

Daisy ? tricky situation with your Aunt and Uncle but you must stick to your guns, everyone?s lives are on different schedules and sadly yours and theirs just don?t sync this time. Sorry to hear about all the worry over your folks, FIL and DP?s work when DD was tiny it must have been such a hard time. I hope you breeze the early days this time and really enjoy them DS was 9 days late but I have a feeling that this baby will arrive around 4/6 June (due date is 30 May) and our friends are arriving 9 June for a week ? NOT a time for socialising! I have seen lots of Bugaboos with that seat on them by the way, seems to work well I know lots of pals who have used all the same godparents for all their kids, you could do that?

Juicy ? totally agree with Tee, no apologising it?s the beauty of the MN world! I met up with one (well I have with a few actually) girl from MN and we became good friends and when we all got together (DHs and kids etc) the DHs used to joke that most of the people we talk to on MN are really dirty old truck drivers DH did refer to her as my ?imaginary? friend for a while too Before DS was born we did plan to try for no 2 when he was 5 months old but I was quite thankful when 5 months came that I was still BFing and there were no signs of returning fertility whatsoever that said, we had also emigrated and were trying to build a life in a new country so we had a bit more on our plate that we would otherwise, I was delighted when he was 8 months to find I was pg again though. We are now saying that we?ll try for no 3 when the new baby is a year old ? we?ll see! Lovely to have a holiday to look forward to 6 months is perfect. We went on holiday when DS was 3 months and that gave me a good enough excuse not to be looking too hot in a bikini because it was so soon after the birth but it?ll motivate you to get back into shape having 6 months lunch and dinner and shopping plus the Tube sounds waaayyy too much for me too! what a special Valentine?s gift, you put me to shame my 1st maxicosi is the turquoise one, love it

Tee ? like the Club rules would love the recipe for your pan seared steak

Littlesarah ? lovely idea about the drawing! Valentine?s Day is always a nightmare for me because DH?s birthday is 13 February! It?s hard enough to come up with a birthday present so sadly VD gets overlooked here quite a bit this year DH will be out on a boys? night with his pal from Scotland who arrives that evening ? that?s a token of my love isn?t it??

Bunnymother - I?d love to go to the Babyshow have a lovely time! That tradition of ?special time? presents that you have will serve you well when your baby arrives you?ll enjoy requesting times for long, bubble baths and to sleep in late Really don?t like Ferrero Rochers ? not enough chocolate in them for me!

Ermintrude ? I like the sound of your DH?s Valentine?s pressie Had beef Wellington at my Mum?s last week and she made me a little one without pate Agree it?s healthy for kids to see parents being loving towards each other that said my Dad always recycled the card my Mum had given him the year before was ahead of his time! Which sling did you use? I had 3 for DS and didn?t get on with any of them although I really wanted to use one.

I got most of DS?s first babygros from Tesco, Asda, Boots and M&S. I loved the Boots ones as they had little cuffs to put over their hands.

June ? your Sat night sounds lovely, why don?t you start with some Kir Royale? Last year, DS was 3 weeks old on Valentine?s Day and I made DH a card out of an old card and some tin foil and coloured tissue paper thanks for your thoughts I got a lot of migraines before I was pg too but took lots of medication then too! A few years back we had a total nightmare; bought a house, couldn?t sell the flat we lived in, we open bridged for a year, money was short ? total nightmare ? I made myself sick with worry and was off work for 3 months, it was very scary, it was an autoimmune thing, and my body just attacked itself. After that I tried not to worry about things that were outwith my control and to accept that sometimes there just isn?t an answer that will come to you through thinking, this is one of those situations and I should know better

Doris ? good to hear from you so sorry to hear about dd2 how horrible for you all, hope she is feeling much better now. I?m with you on the car seats and travel system combos. I was also told at my Early Pregnancy Physio class that babies shouldn?t be in car seats for longer than 40 mins at a time. I had the adaptors for my car seat but never used it on the buggy. Know what you mean about being 24 weeks hope DD2B stays where she is for a lot longer though!

Choccie ? those matrix cup seats are very popular here

Ineedmore ? what a horrible day you had yesterday, hope today has been better. How on earth has someone been stealing from your Paypal account? Love the look of that cake, will have to try that

chocciedooby · 11/02/2009 20:34

Mrsmcjnr sorry to hear about your dhs job and the stress it is causing. Hope it gets sorted out soon so that you can relax a bit more. You have a lot going on, especially now your flat is being repossessed. Hope you find another lovely one to move into very soon

Ineedmore - I am off to the shops 1st thing tomorrow to buy the ingredients for your lemon cake. Sounds amazing!!!

ermintrude13 · 11/02/2009 20:52

MrsMac I used a Baby Bjorn sling and it's now done my 2 DC and 3 nieces and is on its way back ready for June - and in all cases the mums and dads, who are a variety of shapes and sizes, found it easy and comfy and the babies all liked it.

Someone has given me one with hoops which is supposed to be good but I haven't worked out how to use it yet - had better do so before baby arrives otherwise I'll be dropping the poor child on the floor! The Bjorn one looks more 'businesslike' I suppose, rather than the more casual slings that are like the lengths of cloth that African women carry their babes with, but it was easy to put on/off without help.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 11/02/2009 21:02

Well, the cake went down a storm, so I now thoroughly recommend it to all!

Poor you MrsMc - I hope you hear some news about DH's job soon. I have a few friends going through something similar at the moment, and it is so worrying. I've also had a few stonking headaches this pregnancy, and they seem to last for days and days. Paracetamol just doesn't touch it!

Dunked my bump at swimming and now feel shattered. Going to curl up in front of Grand Designs so I have something nice to daydream about when I'm pondering spending my future-dream-lottery-win...... xx

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 11/02/2009 21:08

Evening all.

So totally shattered today. Almost fell asleep at my desk this afternoon!

I was going to write a long post, now have no idea what I was going to say! I think I must be off to bed.

flynn1984 · 11/02/2009 21:38

sorry mrsmcjnr thought it was back to the UK you were moving to well I hope the move to your new apartment in april goes smoothly!

Been looking at different prams now as not too sure about the silver cross linear one I have ordered from mothercare...this is my problem I always order what I like then feel i'm missing out by not buying something else...might check out mamas and papas prams or as DH would prefer just stick with the one I already have

Juicygirlpink · 11/02/2009 21:41

Evening all, just back from 'dunking my bump' too then yummy fish & chips for supper mmmm
managed to have a rest this pm so feeling much better - hope to stay up past 10 pm!!!!
daisy thanks for the link

oh ladies you know how I was telling you about my wonderful vd surprise for dh, well it is no longer a surprise, all booked & paid for then an e-mail came through from ticketmaster reminding us of our trip to see Tina Turner on the same bloody day - i had completely forgotten! Baby brain ! So the concert tickets cost 200GBP & i cant refund/ exchange them same with the train! So i ended up telling dh as I was getting in such a fluster- he is thrilled but now we must find a buyer for these tickets! I am so annoyed with myself, you know what its like not having a social life & all now then 2 things on the same night!

Mrsmc- so sorry to hear things are not good at your end, sending you imaginary i creams!!! The only advice I can give you is to try not to think about it as much as you can because you dont need to get sick when you have all this other stuff to contend with. think june is right - maybe just clarify what the situation is going to be, then at least you have something to work with? Hope the m/w has an answer to your headache problem. This helped me as I had headaches from week 8-18, a cup of tea first thing in the morning, because I had cut it out i was getting caffeine withdrawal.
loving the fact you got the turquoise! men just don;t get it!

I like the look of the babyborn sling the colours it comes in are really amazing also!

Off to a mn coffee morning tom- can;t wait!! None of you live in north london do you???
