Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

That meant to say DC3.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 13/01/2009 11:09

OOh glask, I've been buying stuff too... got massive bag of mat pads, nappies, breast pads in lounge now. Was quite embarrassing at sainsburys check out!

Good to get it done though. I've now got enough to get me through if we have emergency/early birth - before I sort out rest of things.

Glask- i hope im remembering correctly that you are having a home birth? Do you pack hosopital bags anyway on off chance of needing to go in?

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 11:10

Oh Kay- rows happen- i bet it was over something small and silly wasn't it?? It happens, you're both tired, adjusting to 2DC's- its harder than you think, especially when you both bottle little things up then it'll all explode in one big row!! dont worry yourself too much about it, i'm sure you'll have a nice cuddle later and forget all about it!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 11:12

GYo- i didn't pack one with DD, but will be doing with this one, in any case at least all the things will be in one place. I'll be going a bit OTT for this bag, as its my third i know exactly what i wanted and needed in the past so can be extra prepared this time.

kayzr · 13/01/2009 11:13

It was because we have been looking for a puppy to rehome from a rescue and we have found one and just when we contact the rescue about meeting the dog he tells me he isn't sure if he feels ready to get a dog.

I mean why didn't he just f**cking tell me before!!

lastboxoftampons · 13/01/2009 11:14

Oh Latour poor you! Sounds like you've got a whole lot going on. But glad to hear you've got a good perspective on it all.

Diege about work! Were the students there for another class and the admin just called the wrong instructor, or were 30 of your students there two months early? You must be a really good lecturer if they were there early!

tink hold on to that little one until Thursday!

for anyone looking into Omega's - make sure the oil is not taken from the liver of the fish - that type contains high levels of vitamin A which is bad for baby.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 11:17

its a mans perogative!! I'd honestly say to wait for a puppy anyway (sorry if you didn't wanna hear that) we got a puppy this time last year, had her for 6 wks (only re-homed her becasue DS was allergic) and she was blimin hard work.... and that was with a nearly 2yo and a 3yo... i'd never get a puppy at the same time as having a newborn!! I will admit i loved her to bits, and still miss her now... she was very easy to train too, but it was still so much hard work that i didn't expect. A cat almost looks after itself, which is where we were ok getting our 3rd kitten when DD was a few mths old.

LaTourEiffel · 13/01/2009 11:19

LBOT Mumomega is designed for use in pregnancy, hence the 'mum' bit, I was really paranoid about products with 'now with omega oils' all over them for exactly that reason!

( I even emailed muller to ask them if their yogurt drinks 'now with omega' were suitable during pregnancy and they didn't reply so I stopped drinking them!)

The first link was just a link to Boots, as they normally sell them. I don't know what I'm doing wrong!

I love my cleaners too. I originally got them to help with the jobs I don't have time to get round to, but I think having them has made me/us even lazier and now I need them for longer than I ever did and that's just to get the house into a remotely organised and clean state.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 11:23

wait till you get going and get 'duffed' you'll have all them nesting instincts, and can save a bit of £'s for you instead for a few mths..... if your anything like me on the nesting front!! Will have a look for the 'mumomega' stuff... though i will probably be the same even with it- i'm quite 'dizzy' normally, pregnancy just 'exagerates' it a little more!!haha!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 11:24

have just realised that i haven't had the heating on all morning!!!! i thought i was a little chilly, but not too bad.... going to put it on now though as i feel cold knowing!!

Diege · 13/01/2009 11:33

KAYZ when you're feeling so crap, and you are both tired, rows will happen - be easy on yourself (fwiw dh changing his mind so late in the day would really p*ss me off, though I suppose better to say now and all that...).
LOL LBOX about students . Yes, they had been given wrong timetable info' by their head of subject (I'm doing her a favour really by teaching 'Addictive Behaviour students (dont ask) along side my own social work students) and they're really not timetabled until March.
Like the idea of video-conf STAR ; btw Jeremy Kyle is bestr friend of a friend, so feel I know him really well (get all the goss..) Think his wife is actually expecting no.4 too so may bump into her in hossy!.
Re: oils I use the pregnacare plus ones that come with reg pregnacare. Can't say I've suffered pregnancy brain as such in past, though therte's always a first time!
Parcel has just arrived - my dreamgeni pillow I think! Oh and I have fallen out of love with my under the bump seraphine jeans - the stretchy bit is really digging in when I sit down ; no way they'll be able to be worn for much longer! Seems if they fit when standing/walking they're too tight on band when sitting down, but next size up fall down when walking!!!!

lastboxoftampons · 13/01/2009 11:46

Yep, Latour I figured that was the case (even though I didn't look at the link) but if anyone was wanting to cut corners - as the ones "specially formulated for pregnancy" tend to be a bit expensive, I thought it was worth mentioning about the vitamin A

So I'm 12+4 today and I'm starting to run into some real problems with clothes! I have about 3 pair of trousers that were too big for me to begin with, so I'm trying to wear them now as much as possible as everything else is a nightmare after lunchtime. But these aren't really comfortable either. My problem is, I'm feeling really weird about maternity clothes - I've got a couple of tops that have an empire waistline and they're actually not even maternity, but I feel funny wearing them because I feel like I'm trying to look pregnant. But on the other hand, they're really comfy and they're long enough to disguise the fact that my trousers are tight, which most of my other tops are not. Anyone else have this super weird psychological problem??

Diege · 13/01/2009 11:55

I think I know where you're coming from on this LBOX - I was the same with dd1, but by no.4 had got past it and just went for comfort. I'd go ahead and wear the empire-line tops - another tip is hairband on trousers button to eek a few more weeks wear out. Before you know it you'll be proudly pushing your bump out!
Well I think I have taken over from TINKS and her lampshade obsession . Have just ordered a pair of 'over the bump' jeans from Red Herring. I swore I'd never wear over the bump (not sure why)but I need comfort!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 13/01/2009 12:04

Oh I had that issue LBOT. Thought somemone would laugh and point and say why are you wearnig mat wear you arent pregnant!

Got some gap work trousers at about 13wks that have thick elastic waist band and then wore longer tops to cover it for that reason

TBH, no one really cares or will notice...

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 13/01/2009 12:07

just thinking, strangely people do notice now... dont think its the clothes but but they just stare at the bump like its a alien or something.

Really hope I never did that to preg women before I was pregnant! Surprised at how direct people are with their staring!

Starshinetiger · 13/01/2009 12:17

Diege - totally sympathise re. the jeans. I have a pair of Next under bump jeans and Next black maternity trousers, both have stretch side panels and both have caused me no end of problems since I actually got a bump - just have to keep hitching them up all the time - either I bought too big (don't think so - they are size 14 and I'm not smaller than that!), or they just don't work for me. On the other hand, love my mat jeans from H&M from last time round - are over the bump, but have slim legs - could live in them all week if it weren't for work!

Starshinetiger · 13/01/2009 12:18

Kayz - sorry re. row with DH. As others have said, will just be tiredness. Agree was a bit late for him to say it, but better now than after puppy arrives. Personally I am so worried about coping with 2, am full of admiration that you want to rehome a puppy as well - shall be looking to you for tips when the time arrives!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 12:30

Star- i have some next combat/cargo type pants that have the stretch sides and they dont work too well either- the 'stretch' bit doesn't really work does it?? I also have some M&P stretch panel jeans but becasue the leg isn't as long as my next pants then i can happily wear them under my bump ok. I just ahve to wear longer tops or the bottom of my bump flashes!!

Oh, my sister is in very early labour.... she's due 2nd feb, she had some bleeding last night, phoned the delivery suite for advise, they said to go in and get checked, her cervix is softening, and her show is coming away slowly. she's having mild contractions but MW said by the looks of things it could be a slow, long week till she actually goes into full blown labour. Poor girl hasn't been sent to any anti-natal by her MW (she's had a million problems with her crappy MW since day1) so hasn't got a clue what to expect, or what she will need, she didn't even know what to put in her maternity bag for at hospital, and also doesn't even have a birth plan, doesn't even know what there is for pain relief!!

kayzr · 13/01/2009 12:53

I can't believe how angry I still feel at DH. I just had to e-mail the rescue centre to say that we didn't want to see the puppy after all and I feel so shit about it.

I need a coffee I think!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 13:04

can anyone help me??

kayzr · 13/01/2009 13:21

ARGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

He has now said because the dog we were going to get is a big dog, he would be happy if we got a smaller dog!!

I feel like banging my head on a brick wall.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 13:33

when we were looking at getting our puppy we didn't want a big dog, as it'd be over-bearing as the dog got bigger then the DC's... But the puppy we got was a whippet/labrador and she was so timid... a bigger dog with the right breed could make all the difference to their size as some small dogs can be hyper... My mum has a boston terrier and she is just lovely- she's great with the DC's easily trained, doesn't bark, great personality- if DS wasn't allergic and we were to get a dog we'd defo go for one of them!!

kayzr · 13/01/2009 13:38

We want a border collie we think. Well DH does, I want a Shih Tzu.

We'd rather rescue one if possible.

kayzr · 13/01/2009 13:42

We wanted Merlin Click on dogs for adoption and he is the first one.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/01/2009 13:44

also i'd say check with the rescue homes about their policies, as some will only re-home to mortgage holders (for the security of a lifelong home i think) and most wont re-home to families with young children (most are over 8yo i think) as whem we were looking for a puppy our rescue homes wouldn't re-home to us becasue of the DC's, and when we got our first kitten the rescue home we tried wouldn't re-home with us because we were renting at the time!! We did find a rescue home that didn't bat an eyelid, and they were the home we got our 2nd and 3rd cats from... the first was from a pet shop and we still have them all and apart from a few troubles we're happy with our 3, and i think they're happy with us, well they haven't ran away yet!!
