chilled, washington sounds like a huge decision to make.

surprised the nursery made you collect him, could they not treat him themselves with calpol with your consent? over here you fill in a form giving permission to medicate if necessary and they just give you a ring to clear it with you and treat the child at creche for as long as possible.

Tonight we are eating a casserole I made and froze a week ago in anticipation of needing to stock up the freezer for AFTER the baby is born I may have to delay making and freezing food until much nearer due date if I am going to have any chance of having some quick to hand! My excuse is that I'm still at work and I'm so tired when I get in that those freezer meals are just as valuable now as they will be in 6 weeks time. Still, just one week to go before mat leave now.

I also saw my MW yesterday. Babe is still transverse, she said to give it a couple more weeks then she'll book me in for a scan to see how things look. In the meantime I'm baby spinning like mad. I nearly fell off my office chair earlier I was leaning so far forward onto my desk!

MrsY update

She is out of hospital (yay!) and they are still none the wiser about what caused the raised BP and protein.

However, her laptop has broken so she hasn't been able to come on and let you all know.

Pink - I have been having tightenings all day too, mostly when I get up and walk around and when the baby kicks- it seems to set off the BH. They are fierce.

DD has been back at school for 2 days and is already a weeping emotional wreck, early night for her tonight!

MarkStretch · 08/01/2009 17:57

In fact she has just stated she could 'drown a mouse with the amount of tears she has cried today'. She's not wrong there...

herbgarden · 08/01/2009 18:13

chilled - washington sounds like a great city to go and live in but I s'pose you need to decide if it works for you too. I always got a bit annoyed pre -ds when dh suggested us going abroad - for me I couldn't work abroad in some of the countries suggested (wrong type of law) so we'd have had to cut our salary in half (his company never consider that other halves might have a career) - now though I think I'd be tempted as I've taken big cuts since moving out of London having ds (and then of course no2) and going part time - also with kids if you aren't working there's more chance of meeting people but I know I'd still worry about getting back into a job on return. Hard isn't it.

I made quite a lot of freezer food the other week and felt quite smug about it til I looked in there today and most of it seems to be depleting quite quickly as I'm just so knackered I can't be bothered to put much together at the end of the day and it just seems to be the easy option.

Changing the subject entirely - anyone know why they bother to weigh you and do your BMI when you are 8 months pregnant?? I'm a bit baffled by it as surely it gives a skewed result and what are they going to conclude from it - after all you're pregnant and likely to have put on a couple of stone...

herbgarden · 08/01/2009 18:14

Aw MS bless her !

pluto · 08/01/2009 18:19

Oh blimey. Just looked in fridge drawer and found sausages and lamb chops with use by date for yesterday and today. WHY did I defrost that casserole? So, do you reckon I can risk the sausages and lamb tomorrow and Sat?

swampster · 08/01/2009 18:24

Welcome home MrsY !!! (((((clutches poor MrsY to ample bosom again)))))

Herb, when I was pregnant with DS1 I went up to 13 stone-plus - my usual weight is closer to eight-and-a-half stone - though after fertility drugs I was probably closer to nine to begin with.

My bump was GINORMOUS!!!

To cut a VERY long story short, DS1 was born with his cord wrapped round his neck twice - so the CS was probably a very good idea.

I heard later that this is fairly common when you've got too much amniotic fluid for the bub to bounce about in. If anyone had bothered to compare my before and after weights it might have been flagged up. But I don't think I was weighed at any point.

swampster · 08/01/2009 18:25

Pluto, your sausages and lamb should be FINE!!! If you can be arsed, you could always cook them up now to be on the safe side?

spottyshoes · 08/01/2009 18:52

Aww bless you DD MS!

Glad you're home safely Mrsy

Wow chilled what a decision! We are/were supposed to be moving to NZ in 2010 but what with babies/pg's we haven't actually been out there to decide on areas yet!! Hope you are all better soon too.

Pluto - use by date, schmuse by date! check the colour and sniff . I'm sick of sitting forward on my blinking birthing ball, I'm getting back ache and want to slob on the sofa!

littleboyblue · 08/01/2009 19:06

Good news about MrsY Glad all is ok, lets hope she has a smooth ride now until baby is born.

chilledmama · 08/01/2009 19:08

Thanks for well wishes for DS - he's OK really but does high temps at the drop of a hat and then just wants cuddles and so sit and watch TV so easier to get him home really...the nursery are good about it cause it does seem to happen a lot! I think he caught it before going back to nursery on Monday and its been building so fingers crossed this is as bad as it will get but, on the downside...I think I'm getting it

The DC thing is really intriguing...its pretty much now or never in terms of disruption to childrens schooling and what a fab place to go. DH spoke with his appointer and said he didn't know if it would be suitable unless they could find me a job out there too but to be honest I'm not sure I would want to work out there but the cut in income will be significant so we'll be doing a lot of number crunching when DH gets back next weekend. On the up side...my DS is starting to develop a pompey accent (not a good thing) so a move is definatley in order
Goodness, I'll need to start thinking about things like --where== ==the== ==closest== ==skiing== ==is== carseat regulations in the US ?!

chilledmama · 08/01/2009 19:11

doh...
Goodness, I'll need to start thinking about things like where the closest skiing is carseat regulations in the US ?!

thehouseofmirth · 08/01/2009 19:19

Evening everyone!

I'll never catch up on everything but glad to hear MrsY is Ok and no more babies have been born yet.

Have finally got all important stuff in hospital bag but now I am no longer having a section I'm having a mad panic about the logistics of caring for DS1 while I'm in labour and also trying to prepare myself for a nice, calm birth that will leave me as intact as possible.

That ice thing is ridiculous! For me it was never the intensity of the pain (though having to have the last minute spinal block for the ventouse meant I didn't get to experience the joy which is crowning) which was unbearable but the sheer exhaustion of a labour which went on for 19 hours after a sleepless night.

chilledmama · 08/01/2009 19:26

The other the with ice is you can let go...doesn't really work for pushing out a baby!!!

lardybump · 08/01/2009 19:35

Evening all Mrs Y welcome home.....

I am so pleased with DD today she has been fantastic. First she has eaten all her dinner for the first time since christmas eve (she has been off her food and on a starvation diet since then).. Then..

She has been in her new big girls bed since Saturday but she plays up a bit and I have to sit with her until she falls asleep. We decided to give it a week and then get tough with her but tonight she got in and listened to her story and just rolled over and said night night mummy.... I was so proud of her...

Had mw today she is refering me to hospital for specialist appointment and also she is getting me crutches for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy. I asked about being induced on my due date and she said that she will make an appointment to see docter at hospital as it will be down to them not her.... So we will see.... She had a good feel of my hips and said that one is significantly higher than the other!!!!

onwardandmerrilyupward · 08/01/2009 19:36

Only 9 days to go and then I'm allowed a home birth (=37 weeks). I'm really counting down to this. I'd quite like to go a week or two early (there are all sorts of boring things I have to do at work at the end of January and having the baby would be a great escape clause!)

dinkystinky · 08/01/2009 20:58

Evening all. Glad MrsY is ok and out - and hope all well with Oooggs and LMN. Onward - not long to go until 37 weeks - how exciting!

Markstretch - your poor DD. Its such a come down going back to school after xmas and new year - hope she feels abit happier, and less tired, soon.

Chilled - hope you fend off the lurgy successfully.

dinkystinky · 08/01/2009 21:09

Lardy - congrats on getting DD settled in her big girl bed; am sure will get easier from here on in (but be prepared for it maybe to take a step back for a bit when no 2 arrives). Good that you're also getting crutches and a referral - hopefully will make life easier for you.

lardybump · 08/01/2009 21:22

Thanks dinky I do feel really proud of her. Thanks for the advice re her taking a step back I will remember that.

dinkystinky · 08/01/2009 21:31

She may be absolutely fine Lardy - of my friends who have had 2, some little ones started acting up again (especially at bedtime)when no 2 arrived and others didnt blink an eyelid, so if it does happen dont get stressed - is normal and (to use the mummy mantra) just a phase....

herbgarden · 08/01/2009 21:46

lardy you're a braver woman than me....I've been a complete wuss and have kept ds in his cotbed with sides still on. He can't climb out (he's still in his sleeping bag) so I've left it for now - he's 2.5years so the time will come but for now he's sleeping well so I'm in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" frame of mind ! Most of my friends have done the switch and have found that it starts off a bit wobbly and then sorts itself out with a few phases where things go to pot for a night or two. Well done to your dd though !

swampster · 09/01/2009 00:35

Anybody in east Kent?

spottyshoes · 09/01/2009 02:22

Congratulations on the sleeping Lardy (I am avoiding all major changes like beds and potty training for a minimum of 6 mths as dont have the energy to face the upheaval!!) and the eating. DS only started eating again 3 nights ago and it's been since Xmas eve too! Must have been one hell of a bug for them the poor things
Do you go to the physio to manipulate your hips? Mine always go way out of line and she pops them back in. This time she's showed us how to do it and DH has been doing it at home which has really helped and also saved trawling to the hospital every week.

THOM I cant imagine swinging from the [relative] safety of knowing I was having a CS to having to get into the 'head space' of a VB a few weeks before hand. Well done you for being so prepared.

Not long now O&U. Their window of opportunity for a HB had me worried when I booked in for one as I was convinced I would go too far over! (not that it ended up being an issue!) So you'll be shouting 'OK you can come out now!!!' in 9 days then

Well it looks like i'm back to the last few weeks of getting up wide awake for half the night . Does my body not know that it doesn't need the preparation for sleep deprivation. I have a toddler for that!!!!!!!!!!!!

littleboyblue · 09/01/2009 04:29

lardy We took sides off cot a month or so ago and changed from bottle at bedtime to beaker as wanted to make all major changes before baby came along so as not to distrupt him more than need be. The sideless cot lasted 2 hours! After that, ds might be sleeping in there until he moves out!

spotty Exactly my feelings! I've been sleep deprived for nearly 2 years, I don't neeed the practise, I need the rest while ds is settled........

It's dp's pay day today and I know I shouldn't discuss it but, he got over £3,000 for 1 month!!! That's the overtime at xmas. Gonna have a good day on the highstreet! Last bits now like the new mattress for basket, a stand too now it won't be going directly in cot (had a dog when ds was born so was safer in there), also need nappies to complete hospital bag and have a coupon for a free change bag at boots, but don't think it'll go on new pushchair so might have to invest in a rucksack! Also raincover is huge not sure where to keep that in case it rains when out .......
