A sparkling new thread in time for christmas

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
littlesez · 07/01/2009 15:12

Thanks for the boob advice ladies, wont put me off breastfeeding anyway as i have no other choice (my mum used to be a midwife and a health visitor so she will be forcing helping me to breastfeed!)

ms yes i have had the shooting pain but up the bum too? very strange

I am so so tired from any effort of any kind so going for a nap!

Neeerly3 · 07/01/2009 15:16

i have pain between my legs now when I walk mostly - like he or she is rubbing on something.

I was posting on another thread earlier about being 30 wks gone and having nothing ready for DC's 2 and above. Any of you lot with kids already got the new nursery sorted or got the moses basket out ready or bought any clothes? I have NOTHING ready apart from two packs of nappies.

Feel like I should be doing something to prepare, but it doesn't seem to be as much of a panic as it was first time round!

spottyshoes · 07/01/2009 15:21

Happy birthday LBB, hope you are having a good day.

I've been out all day and am knackered and have come home to a messy house and baskets of washing to be sorted and ironed despite cleaning all day yesterday Why do I f'ing bother when I have such a dirty lazy family

Btw has anyone on here had more than one CS?

spottyshoes · 07/01/2009 15:23

Neerly - I have DS tiny baby clothes out of the loft ready to be washed, a packet of nappies and a pack of maternity pads - sounds more organised than I thought when I write it down

dinkystinky · 07/01/2009 15:40

Neerly, Spotty - sounds like you almost have everything you need (after all babies need feeding, changing and being kept warm - everything else is just an optional extra), except for the GINORMOUS PANTS for you which is what I still need to get too.

Spotty - embrace the mess - Hopefully the housework fairies will appear in the night and tidy everything up for you.

america · 07/01/2009 15:42

I was going through DS's newborn clothes but he was born in late spring so will need to get some warm things for DS2. I have ordered a new mattress for the cot and bought some nappies. That should do it? Right? We'll have to share a bedroom with DS2 to start with as our flat is tiny but that shouldn't be a problem.

america · 07/01/2009 15:43

Ups, and Happy B-day LBB!

Spotty, you could try nesting by proxy

PinkPoinsettias · 07/01/2009 15:50

happy birthday LBB 2 years older than me so as the official baby of this thread i get to point and laugh right? hope you get spoiled rotton

rosie... i've been getting weird periody cramps too... as well as a few blinding through the bump pains every few hours but as they're not turning into anything regular i'm just putting them down to my uterus getting some practice in.

dd was back at playschool today, she was so excited she came into us (read me) at 4.30am she was awake for hours and then passed out from exhaustion just before 7 when dp got up and i ended up having to wake her at 8.45 as i knew there'd be tantrums if she missed her first day back. she's got tomorrow off again as her teachers dad died unexpectedly on monday and his funeral is tomorrow... won't be able to go though as no-one to leave ds with who isn't going themselves and he'd be a nightmare in a church.

it's still frozen everywhere here... my windscreen was frozen on the inside as well as the outisde this morning... how weird is that?! hoping for snow still but nothing yet. am sat on a heatpad with the oil heater on and 2 small kittens cuddled up to me and am still chilly!

neerly... i had a sudden paniced spurt of organising over the last few weeks and actually got mostly sorted.... can't believe with dd i was ready with hospital bags packed and everything bought at 27 weeks!

spottyshoes · 07/01/2009 16:02

Ice on the inside - do you live in the arctic? HAve never seen that before.

Like both the nesting by proxy and the fairies plans but sadly I dont think either will happen to me {plays violin}

PinkPoinsettias · 07/01/2009 16:25

west of ireland... the only country the romans turned up their noses at as the weather was too miserable

dp drove 1 1/2 hours to his course this morning and his car was still frozen solid when he got there!

McDreamy · 07/01/2009 16:29

I have bough some bits but they are by no means together so if anything happened now I would be running around the house like a loon - or would I ?

Has anyone lost their bottle a bit since being pregnant? I chickened out of the school run this morning as it was such bad weather. DH did it for me. driving in bad weather has never concerned me too much before but i felt really under confident this morning. Need to snap out of it or is this normal?

dinkystinky · 07/01/2009 16:51

McDreamy - its normal; you're feeling vulnerable (big life changing occasion coming; new life inside of you that you want to protect too) so you do become more cautious.

Pink - it sounds positively arctic where you are! Sounds like tomorrow is going to have to be a duvet day for you and the kids...

spottyshoes · 07/01/2009 17:10

McD - Completely! It mainly effected my ability to do my job. I found out I was pg at about 3.5 weeks (avid tester ) and the following day I was visiting a school for kids with 'challenging' behaviour. One of them kicked off and I ran off, pretty much backwards with my hands covering my stomach!!! I also cried all night before a prison visit as I was scared incase there was be a riot and I would be pg and trapped in with violent teenagers! Definate paranoid wuss

MarkStretch · 07/01/2009 17:11

I have been SHOPPING!

I am now officially prepared.

My bag is packed, the baby's bag is packed and DD's overnight bag is packed.

He has clothes washed and in drawers, room decorated and all equipment purchased.

Surely this means I can just sleep for the next month? A walk round the city today has left me feeling exhausted again. Must find some energy to make DD dinner.

Is anyone else starving? I seem to be hungry all the time now, I guess he is rapidly putting on weight ready for birth now.

LittleMissNorty · 07/01/2009 17:21

I'm always starving as well......and feeling more vulnerable....not so much early on, but definitely around all this ice and snow.....

Packed a baby bag, just mine to do....and cooking loads of chilli's / spag bols etc and putting in the freezer....and DD has plenty of meals in the freezer for when daddy and nanny look after her

For those of you deciding between VBAC and CS....does having other toddlers affect your decision? I've gone for CS cos I'm such a wuss, but the major drawback that I can see is that I won't be able to lift DD.

I'm also interested if anyone has had 2 CSs.....I'm assuming I know what I'm in for and should recover in a similar manner / speed to last time? Going to ask for dissolvable stitches this time though....and get DH to shave me rather than a HCA!

chilledmama · 07/01/2009 17:44

Sorry haven't been on for a few days and theres so much to catch up on so thought I should pop in and say hello and make a marker. Hopefully will catch up soon but am completely nackered as DH been away for a few days now and won't be back for another 1 or so and I started back at work on monday and DS is full of cold again...just shoot me now!

littleboyblue · 07/01/2009 17:45

KazzaL My ds does this, lifts top, pulls down maternity trousers/skirt. puts a finger in my belly button and says buba, the gives a kiss and says "aahh". It is a pain in public to fight him away, don't want random strangers to see the excess hair and dodgy stretchmarks! hehehe

Sure TBM is fine, haven't looked at the group page today

I was just about to post about period type cramping myself. I put the hoover away a while ago and have had really wierd pains ever since. It feels a bit like a bubbling, you know like when you are litterally about to come on and can almost feel the lining coming away?
herb your book says this is normal though?Belly isn't hardening with the waves of pain though, so not the start of anything is it? Panic panic panic

newerly ds2 will be in with us for a bit before going in with ds1, mosses basket is on bedroom floor waiting for a new mattress and the sheets and fleece surround are washed and folded in airing cupboard, all clothes are washed, ironed and been put away, hspital bag needs some night clothes for myself and some nappies and just need to get some formula as think that's the route I'm taking and then we are all done.

spotty I feel like that most of the time, why do I bloody bother. But then I remember I'm the messy one.....

PP If you point and laugh now, in years to come when we are on post-natal threads and you turn 27, I'm gonna laugh at you. So there

Got all my housework done which is nice, but just realised I forgot to polish in the living room again. That's the thing I always forget, not doing it now though, will have to wait til morning.
Am hoping dp will bath ds and put him to bed (again).

herbgarden · 07/01/2009 17:50

LMN that was one of my concerns having a toddler to look after in the CS option but as I live near my mum and dad and in-laws I have plenty of willing helpers, I live on a good bus route into the nearest town and can easily get out and about (my mum also has car seat and all the stuff so makes giving me lifts easier) - with me being pregnant DS has got used to me not picking him up (he's 2.5 years now as well) - because of my bump and I just crouch down for a cuddle or sit on the sofa with him/lie on our bed as he's quite a cuddler. He also now gets in his own car seat (altho I obviously won't be driving) and buggy and I then do the straps. Depends on how old your dd is tho'.

I've put all the baby stuff I've now washed in the re-usable big Tescos bags - (I'm in for 3/4 days so have quite a few clothes) have my nappies/mat pads but haven't yet put anything for myself in on the basis that hopefully DH could find my nighties and dressing gown at a push but might struggle to put a baby bag together and also that I have my c-section booked so I'm crossed fingers that it won't happen earlier.

I too am starving. I'm back at that needing a bowl of cereal in the night stage....but then can't eat too much as I feel full so quickly. Really annoying. I always need something after an early bowl of cereal for breakfast like a piece of toast/crumpet or something so am finding little and often better.

Have had a mass sort out this pm whilst in-laws have been playing with ds. They're staying for dinner - cunning plan as they then insist on giving ds a bath and pj's the bit of the day which I find knackering at the moment !

littleboyblue · 07/01/2009 17:52

Thank you for card on FB spotty

swampster · 07/01/2009 18:19

LMN - I've had two emergency CSs - basically 24 hours of labour-plus both times, 'failure to progress', baby in distress... epidural... CS. I'm hoping an elective will be easier to recover from but, to be honest, I was on my feet pretty quickly both times. DS1 got used to having cuddles without me picking him up.

rosieposey · 07/01/2009 18:28

Okies, back from hosptial and all is well, had a trace done and lo was fine and no contractions to see on the trace either, am glad i am not the only one on here experiencing these periody type pains. I noticed when i went to the delivery suite a couple of nights ago and i was having a trace done there that you could see some activity ( like molehills ) on the trace so those severe pains were doing something ( just glad they stopped )but i think these crampy type ones are just our cervix and womb getting ready for the off!

Im starving too, there really is no excuse whatsoever as i have plenty to eat!

swampster · 07/01/2009 18:40

Happy Birthday, LBB, you mere child, you!

Glad all's well, rosie.

littleboyblue · 07/01/2009 18:45

That's good news rosie glad all is well.

spottyshoes · 07/01/2009 19:24

Glad everything is ok Rosie.
You're welcome LBB

Right then swampy - Can I ask what happens with the scar after 2? My main concern is obviously the recovery with a 22mth old who likes to bounce and be carried but I'm also concerned about my physical appearance afterward . Do they cut away the old scar tissue and sew you so you still only have one or do you end up with tram lines???? Also do you get a bad overhang? I didn't this time round but have heard you get a bit of apron skin that doesn't go away?

onwardandmerrilyupward · 07/01/2009 19:27

Another vote for the bra strap extenders. I bought some in Jojo Maman Bebe (because there's one really close to us, not because of any brand loyalty) and haven't had to buy any new bras at all.

Love to all of you with the crampings. I wonder if they count as braxton hicks contractions? I haven't had anything yet (nor last time) which I recognise as a braxton hicks.

Only 10 days to go, and then I'm "allowed" to go into labour (ie Thunderbirds will be "go" for a home birth)

As for protecting our bumps as we approach full term... does going down one of those helter skelter type slides (where you go down in a tunnel) flat on your back with an older child lying on top shrieking with laughter count as proecting the bump? No, thought not. I went down the damn thing about 5 times, and the baby didn't turn back from breech and way up in my ribs to sensibly head down ROA until the following morning.

Oh, and I am PMSL at the toddler lifting his mummy's breasts up to wash them. If he was my child, he'd need a crane for the job!
