No, but you can get ones with buttons down the front. My primark ones were perfect in every sense, they were (before I shrank them in tumbledryer) long enough to cover me whilst giving easy access to there when needed to be checked (although no one looked 'down there' after ds was born) and they have 5 little buttons that come down to ribs so were ideal for bf....

elkiedee · 02/01/2009 20:05

LBB, I'd go for a long loose nightie with buttons down the front. Whichever type of birth I'd had I wouldn't have wanted pyjama bottoms. I'm currently wearing the nighties I bought when ds was born as they're comfy and the bump makes any nightie feel shorter than normal so I get cold in anything else. I found mine in Blooming Marvellous and have continued wearing them despite my failure breastfeeding, they're comfy, so I feel I've had money's worth, but they're available elsewhere if cash is tight.

TBM, Sian's my sister's name, good choice.

dinkystinky · 02/01/2009 20:32

Hello all. Eejaykay - nice to see you on hon after such a long absence, was wondering where you are. Am sure the growth scan is nothing to worry about - babies come in all shapes and sizes and are perfectly fine, so just keep relaxing before you get back to work and take it easy.

Just had a fun 4 hours in A&E with DS who hurt his arm while playing with his nanny this afternoon in the park (fortunately was v quiet at work today so sloped home after lunch as did DH so we were both home to take DS to A&E as soon as his nanny came home with him) - turns out he pulled his elbow (they think) which the docs manipulated back in place. Our poor nanny was in floods of tears (even though I told her not to be as could happen with any of us) as was DS every time anyone touched his arm until they manipulated it (seems better now - he's asleep for now but am sure we'll have night time wakings and cries for mummy and medised) so all in all a pretty stressful afternoon. And there I was hoping for a sneaky afternoon nap and DH came home early as he wanted a nap as has horrid chest infection too....

Re labour - I laboured with DS in an old enormous t-shirt which was planning to cut down the front for skin to skin and breastfeeding (nothing on the bottom half - tshirt was long enough to preserve my modesty). Will do the same this time - you just need to remember to pack a penknife or pair of scissors in your hospital bag..

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 02/01/2009 20:33

On the nightie front I bought a set of 2 jersey short sleeve below knee nighties - one pink and one blue for a fiver in the F&F section Tesco's. The buttons suggestion is prob a good idea tho' with breastfeeding - I really hadn't thought that far ahead last time round- I had some fairly loose pyjamas (and didn't anticipate a section) but they were a bit of a faff with the constant checks of your scar and - it was really hot as it was summer 2006 and so wish I'd had a comfy nightie with "easy access". You also want really big up over the bump pants so that the pad over the scar easily stays in place (you just use a sanitary pad)....

KT don't overdo it on the moving front. I got my parents over to do most of the unpacking - ours was September so I was only 4 months but I was completely knackered by it all and ended up quite tearful at one point. You'll probably want to get straight as quickly as you can soif you can find willing helpers and then direct proceedings yourself then that's much the best option...

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 02/01/2009 20:38

ooh dinky sorry about ds - sounds nasty. Hope he's on the mend soon and maybe you'll get a chance for a nap tomorrow??

dinkystinky · 02/01/2009 20:52

Thanks Herbgarden - with any luck, he'll be on the mend soon. Is nasty - but better than a break I guess and by the end he was getting quite distracted by all the toys in childrens A&E, so must be on the mend

My mum and dad are down tomorrow for the weekend so hopefully DH and I will be able to have a nice afternoon nap while they entertain their beloved grandson....

thehouseofmirth · 02/01/2009 20:55

Dinky poor old DS. WHat a rotten afternoon for all of you.

LBB your vest tops do sound good. DS was born in a very hot summer so I just wore a bf bra and pyjama bottoms but once it got cooler I adopted a vest top, pyjama bottom and cotton cardi combo which is great for BF and co-sleeping (as you can't tuck duvet up as high as you normally would).

But I realy am getting quite obsessed about the labour thing. As I'm only tiny a T-shirt which would be long enough to cover my bits would be hugely voluminous and I don't want that. I don't care so much about how I look but more how I feel and I really hate flappy, baggy clothes!

CalicoisCrackers · 02/01/2009 20:56

I have just bought some cheapo nighties from Primark - look like big t-shirts with buttons down the front. Not glamorous but I expect I'll bin them afterwards! Were less than £3 each so I bought a few. I had pjs with bottoms last time and they were a faff. I think I just wore a hospital gown during labour as I spent a long time in the pool and was then whisked to theatre...can't really remember. Have got a nice new dressing gown for pics of baby in arms once I have recovered enough for photos to be taken!

Dinky - hope DS is ok, sounds nasty.

PinkPoinsettias · 02/01/2009 22:40

first time round i laboured in a nightie and deeply regretted it as once they realised there was blood in my waters they put me on continuous monitoring which meant the nightie was hitched up around my waist and i was bare assed below which wasn't fun with mws and students wandering in and out of the room. after i gave birth i changed into a huge old shirt of dp's... no point in bottoms as i wwas haemorraging, switched to pjs the nest morning for traipsing around while the nurses 'educated' me on baby care.... ie, dd was so caked in blood they wanted her wwashed and diguised it as a babycare lesson

with ds i wore a vest top and light skirt to labour in and it was much better, my belly was hanging out and easily accesible for monitoring and prodding and the skirt was easily hitched up when it got time to push. switched to pjs right after.... personally i'm just more comfortable like that.... even when i haemoraged with dd i don't remember anyone being too interested.... sorry, i'm wrong, one nurse checked my stitches but she just got me to lie on my side with my back to her and pull the pjs down a little which was fairly un-invasive compared to what had been done the day before

eejaykay · 02/01/2009 22:50

Thanks Dinky, and what a stressful afternoon for you, hope the little chap doesn't feel too bashed and is back to himself soon.

rosieposeyxmaspuddingandpie · 02/01/2009 23:07

Ohhh just checking in to see how everyones doing and i see we have our first baby! Congrats to TBM and family hope you are both doing well

Dinky sorry to hear your DS has been in the wars - hope he is ok!

Nothing exciting here to report - Ikea again today though ( i know i know i must be mad! ) but i wanted a cheap and cheerful changing station for the living room as i have a swanky one for the bedroom and i just thought that after the CS it will help to change lo at waist height. I think i have near enough everything now so just time to sit back and wait for the (other) babies to start to arrive Cant believe that were all nearly there!

thehouseofmirth · 03/01/2009 08:13

Morning all!

Hope everyone is fine and dandy today and that your DS is feeling better Dinky.

OK, on to my next vital question... how big is/are your hospital bag/s?!

littleboyblue · 03/01/2009 08:24

dinky your poor ds, and your poor nanny, the pair of them must have been in a right state! Glad he's ok.

Calico your primark ones sound like the ones I got. I'm sitting here wearing the one I wore at the start of labour with ds! So def got my £3 worth! hehe

Nothing to report here, another bad night but have to get used to those again.
Off to my dads today to collect the pushchair as my downstairs neighbour is having her house blessed and has asked if we mind going out. She's gonna bring up a load of Indian food for us later which I'm looking forward to!
Have a good day ladies.

Should we open an Ante-natal thread for TBM and she can wait there on her own for the rest of us? (only joking)

Cocodrillo · 03/01/2009 09:30

Ooh congratulations TBM, hope all is well.

DS hope ds is feeling better soon.

Can someone tell me - when you're having a CS do you have to make sure your nails are unvarnished for some reason?

I have a beauty voucher thungummy that I thought about using on a pedicure for a treat so perk me up before DC3 is born ... but seems a bit pointless if the varnish would have to come straight off!

(Very shallow question I know )

thehouseofmirth · 03/01/2009 09:48

Yes Coco I'm afraid you do as I think they look at your nails to monitor your oxygen levels, or some such thing.

MarkStretch · 03/01/2009 12:14

Hello

My hospital bag is a hold-all with two end pockets and one large one in the middle. It remains to be seen if everything will fit in it as I haven't managed to pack it yet.

Do I need to take a towel? [blank]

MarkStretch · 03/01/2009 12:16

Oh and is anone else getting movements that hurt?

I just walked to the shop and back and gasped the whole way as junior tried to stick a leg out of my side.

Owwwwwwww.

spottyshoes · 03/01/2009 13:21

Sorry to hear about your DS Dinky - ouch! Hope he's feeling better soon and you get your nap today.

I am going to use a medium sized suitcase, not the diddly overnighter, the next size up as it can be pulled along. I'm getting a tad frustrated as most of the things I need to pack are tucked away in the loft and I can't get up there. Am reliant on lazy very busy DH to do it and have been asking for weeks.

Just been to the shops and bumped into 3 people I know whilst buying maternity pads and the like. One was a father of an old service user who looked horrified when he saw I was holding reusable breast pads and mumbled off rather quickly

spottyshoes · 03/01/2009 13:23

I get really painful movements too - they actually make me shout out loud as they come out of the blue and actually hurt rather than being 'uncomfy'. Mainly right round towards my back in my right side.

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 03/01/2009 13:24

Hi everyone - just been in the [very cold] loft to find everything I need for no 2- Told DH I'd left it all at the top and he said "what all of this?!?" - I told him to shut up and just bring it out (bossy moi??) - he's such a control freak where mess is concerned I think the thought of baby and toddler stuff in our house is freaking him out. It's just part and parcel. I think he's a bit tired today so is not in the best mood.

Cocodrillo - not sure if you remember but I brought the nail issue up a few threads ago - I have UV set gel on top of my own nails and I asked the mw at my 34 week check yesterday what I needed to do - she did say that as long as they can see the nail bed you're fine and as the anaesthetist is at your head end then it's the fingernails they'll need to see. I have clear on my nails so I might be fine but I have my pre-op on the 26th Jan and a nail appntmnt on 27th Jan so she can then either take it all off or just get my nails in shape depending on what they advise at that appointment!.....

Calico amused at your forethought for the baby photos - must admit I've always thought how great my mates have looked in their photos with baby in arms just after giving birth. Me.....well.....after a few sleepless nights, induction, an epidural, spinal block and emergency c-section and a day puking after baby arrived, no dressing gown or makeover could have hidden how hideous I looked - puffy, blotchy and just plain awful really ! Maybe this time with the planned c-section I can pop a bit of lippy on !!

I desperately need a trip to ikea for storage units /chest of drawers /things I don't need but am waiting til my mum can come with me during the week. I'll then have a mountain of flat pack to get DH to put together during the weekend .

Hope you're all having relaxing Sat afternoons. DH and I are going out for dinner tonight for the first time in months as mum has offered to babysit. Opted for an early time so we can still get an early night !..I'm a complete lightweight now.

turkeyandherbstuffinggarden · 03/01/2009 13:41

PS haven't chosen bag yet but may just opt for one of those re-usable big Tesco Shoppers for the baby stuff so I/dh can easily find what I want (rather than dh rummaging through everything else - he's such a "boy" looker when it comes to finding anything - if not in sight "it's not there" and as I'll be stuck to a catheter I'll make it as easy as poss for him). I'll then just put my stuff in a med size trolley dolly thing.

I have lots of painful movement down my rhs -apparently a foot/feet but it's really really uncomfortable at times

thehouseofmirth · 03/01/2009 14:18

MS if you consult my list on FB I think you'll find it's a yes to towels. But also in my Maternity Notes book it lists what essentials you need to take. Not sure if everyone's notes have a list but I know what you need to take can vary from hospital to hospital.

Baby Father Christmas seems to specialise in lying there and poking any internal organs he can get close to (or so I imagine it). Don't know if it's worse as my placenta is anterior.

PinkPoinsettias · 03/01/2009 14:21

dinky, hope your little man is on the mend today, sounds like he was very brave poor lad. the poor nanny must have been in a right state too.

kung fu panda keeps making me screech in pain, it's very bizerre as no matter how uncomfortable the other 2 were at times with movements they never hurt but he keeps shoving a leg straight out to the front and it's really sore.

hospital bag here is a hold all too but have got to admit i've ony p0acked for a brief stay... a fe hours or overnight if i have to... definitely wouldn't have gotten enough for a longer stay in there. with dd i had one small holdall for labour ,which included her first clothes and some nappies etc, and a much bigger one for the next few days.

shattered again today, had a lovely long lie in being snuggled by the cat but still feel like i could sleep for a week, hope i get some energy back before feb

thehouseofmirth · 03/01/2009 14:49

What's a lie-in?!

PinkPoinsettias · 03/01/2009 15:12

lol... after years of negotiation it's when on a saturday once the kids have spent hours using me as a climbing frame and causing mayham dp crawls out of bed and brings them dowwnstairs where he lets them detroy the house and half kill each other while he sits at the pc and i lie in bed flinching at every shriek and crash from downstairs

usually i last about half an hour before going downstairs to intervene but was feeling obstinate this morning and stayed up there for hours
