So excited to be starting my first thread!!!

Just had a BFP this morning a couple of days before AF is due and according to FF, my EDD is 1st September 09.

I have one DD (March 05) and had MMC in late September this year, so a little nervous but really ready for this.

Looking forward to a few more people joining me on here!

lix - congratulations. I'm so pleased for you. Best of luck with this one. Have you started the October thread yet?!

PrincessLala · 30/01/2009 13:43

Wow, so much has happened since I last posted (which was far too long ago, unfortunately). I'm now 8+3. Welcome to newbies and so sorry to hear about the recent losses.

I'm still really well, nothing but super sore (.)(.), crampy pains and complete knackeredness. No nausea but have to make sure I eat before I get really hungry or I simply shut down.

I saw my GP at about 6/40 - what a waste of time that was! I was there for about 3 minutes, he asked about my LMP and obstetric history, gave me a book that we get in Scotland, Ready Steady Baby, and referred me to the MW. I knew considerably more than him about the system, and was surprised that he didn't ask me about my diet, smoking or drinking habits at least. As it happens I don't need any advice in those areas but you'd think it would be a perfect opportunity for some health promotion! Anyway, I'll get off my high horse...

I don't get my MW booking til 13/40, and my first scan's not til 14+, though they've booked me for the wrong hospital so that may change. Can't wait. It's so far away, and it's tempting to blag an EPU appointment to get some reassurance earlier - but I would never do that as it would, I think, belittle the real problems that others have, not to mention tempt fate! Damn morals and superstition.

I really hope that those with concerns get the reassurance they need soon. It seems like any symptom you have can be deemed normal, doesn't it. Feeling sick - sign of healthy pregnancy. Not feeling sick - lucky you, sign of healthy pregnancy. Cramps - normal sign. No cramps...well, you get the idea...

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/01/2009 14:06

Congratulations Lix and all the other new BFPs.

I'm also not too nauseaous at the mo, although it's also coming in waves, so some days/times I'm fine and others not. Still eating but making sure I don't get too hungry as I get a bit light-headed.

Would be less anxious if I was really suffering with MS but grateful I'm not in other ways. Still functioning but went to bed at 9pm last night and slept right through until 6am AND still struggled to get up!

DH back tonight from 2.5 weeks in Uganda - I've had to hide my recent maternity wear purchases from Ebay! Not quite ready for them yet but definitely wider around the waist (or maybe it was last night's apple pie and custard?!)

Looking forward to my MW appointment on 11th. The hospital has also been in touch offering me an appointment too (I was fed up waiting for them so rang the birth centre myself). Going to cancel the appointment at the hospital as hoping not to go there, plus I'll need time off work and I don't want to tell anyone in the office yet. Really hoping I can get a scan at the same time but not sure what facilities they have at the birth centre. Might need to find a walk-in centre if not, as the lack of MS is making me a little anxious despite no bleeding.

Brockbaby · 30/01/2009 14:07

Hello, I am new to Mumsnet. My baby is due on 27/09/09. What is a MMC - BFP - DD??

I am feeling so tired and have stomach cramps at night - how is everybody else doing?

Snowfalls108 · 30/01/2009 14:36

OO- fancy new mumsnet format. Looks very smart!

Congratulations Lix - so pleased for you.

Well my MS isn't too bad - supper last night came back up again, but generally it's the tiredness thats getting to me.

Keep wondering into baby shops, gutted that we can't buy anything yet, there are some really good deals in the sales.

So excited about my appointment with the MW on Monday - I realise it will actually probably be very boring and routine, but at least everything will feel official.

Snowy - I'm at the Chelsea and Westminster too. From what I can tell the labour facilities and care before hand appear to be ok it's the care afterwards that's not so good, although that seems to be for the mother - ie very busy wards etc, but the care for the baby seems to be ok. So hopefully there will be no need to stay in to long.

So, with the dating malarky. Going by LMP I'm 7+1 today, which would give me an EDD of 17 September. However I'm pretty certain that the date of conception was about 5 days later than day 14 of my cycle (of a 28 day cycle) - will this change my EDD or will the keep my EDD the same and I will be late, or will the adjust it at the scan? Anyone know?

AprilMeadow · 30/01/2009 15:13

Lix that is FANTASTIC news congratulations on your BFP

Have found a wonder potion that seems to keep the nausea at a low level (if used regularly). Its from a company called Muti and is a combo of Jojoba, ginger, mandarin, cardamom, sandalwood and spearmint. Its called the Morning Sickness Relief Stick

silentlywondering · 30/01/2009 15:40

Back off to gp this afternoon. Not keeping anything down and feeling pretty grotty!

lemonmoon · 30/01/2009 16:06

Purplecrazyhorse I don't have MS either, but my friend who is currently 29 weeks didn't have it either. She had cramps like me, so I'm wondering if you get one or the other... 'What to expect' says that just over half of women get MS, although other books say 70%, but either way that's a good number of women who don't.

snowfalls I can be as accurate as you at dating but the mw put me on 18 sept, presumably because she has a little chart that goes by a 28 day cycle and ov on day 14. Don't know if the scan will change it but it's possible.

Had my date through for the scan today - 6th March! So long to wait, and it says to allow two hours for it. They check the nasal bone and heart function as well apparently, which surprised me, as I thought you had to go private for that.

Snowfalls108 · 30/01/2009 16:19

Hi Lemonmoon,

My scan is the 2 March and they said to allow 20 minutes! Which hospital are you going to?

Would ideally like to be later than the 17th of Sept as I've got a friends wedding in France at the begining of September, so the later the better!

Brokbaby - congrats! You'll get used to all the funny terms quickly.
BFP - Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)
MMC - no idea I'm afraid!
DD - darling daughter. DS - darling son. DC - darling child DP - darling partner DH - darling husband

Hope that helps a bit.

lemonmoon · 30/01/2009 16:42

acronym list

That should help with the abbreviations, Brockbaby

My scan is at Kings, and I have a blood test at the same time. Not looking forward to that bit, being something of a fainter.

silentlywondering · 30/01/2009 17:13

Anti emetics and instructions to rest (ha ha ha)so who will look after my 2dcs whilst I rest?

StealthPo09IsHere · 30/01/2009 17:38

Congratulations lix!
Oh Sails, sorry you're having loads of worry. It seems that a few of us (me inc) have had less ms this time - I am still waiting for mine to kick in, but think I'm 8 weeks now. Do you have a scan planned?

GracieGirl · 30/01/2009 18:10

Hello all!

Congratulations Lix - that's brilliant news!

I've been for my booking appointment today (9 weeks and 2 days). Got my dating scan booked for 13 weeks, I want a scan now!!!!I'm turning into a paranoid loon, I've made myself wait this long but might have gone completely mad by 13 weeks . Does anyone have any recommendations for anywhere to go for a private scan near Derby? Derby's private hospital (The Nuffield) only does scanning from 20-32 weeks and those scans are just visual - you get to look yourself but no one professional looks too. So not much use really.

kookykid · 30/01/2009 19:57

LIX Am SOOOOO pleased for you! That was quick work!
I'm sure this time will be lucky for you and thank you for coming back to tell us the news!

Sails really sorry to hear you're having these worries. FWIW my morning sickness seems to have settled down and comes and goes and I don't seem to feel nearly so bad. Have heard that in some cases your body gets used to the hormones which are causing the sickness and it clears up. If you're concerned do see your GP and see if you can get a scan.

Met my community midwife yesterday. Luckily for me there's a big shake up going on in my area and they will have to do all my MW visits at home!! Hooray! Much easier with my DD tearing around here rather than at a surgery somewhere. She was really positive about everything, including my plans for a homebirth. They've also just started doing nuchal scans here so am able to have one after all. However, I still have moments when sure I'm not going to see a heartbeat at the 12 week scan. Just the thought of it makes me go cold all over. Nothing to do but wait.

Hope everone is doing OK!

StealthPo09IsHere · 31/01/2009 11:54

no one around?

silentlywondering · 31/01/2009 12:44

Been popping in and out all morning between looking after kids.

detoxdiva · 31/01/2009 19:05

Yes, very quiet on here today.....have been lurking a bit, but mostly sleeping . The extreme tiredness has begun with a vengance. It gets to 1pm and I literally shut down - God knows how I'll get through the afternoon at work on Monday!

Kookykid - great news about your midwife's support for a home birth. I am hoping to have one too - perhaps we can compare notes nearer the time!

GracieGirl · 01/02/2009 10:38

Its very quiet on here this weekend.
I've booked a scan with Baby Bond in Birmingham, there's no where close by that I could find. Its tomorrow so I'll be almost 10 weeks. I can't believe I'm travelling 45 miles for a private scan, I have gone mad! I guess my life as a level headed calm sort of person has come to an end! Paranoid over protective mum here I come!

silentlywondering · 01/02/2009 10:49

So where is Baby Bond in Birmingham and how much do they charge? I would offer to meet you for a coffee but I have to get to the church to run toddler group before going to see community midwife for first visit and then race round to fetch dd from school.

iamamummy · 01/02/2009 15:24

hi ladies

how are you all feeling? nausea has kicked in big time here in the evenings but not actually being sick yet so could be worse!

gracie - i had 3 scans with babybond when i was pregnant with ds and they were fantastic! i think we drove about 25 miles each time too definately worth it though!

kooky - your midwife sounds fab and very supportive too which is always a bonus! not so sure i will qualify for a homebirth this time as i had a pph with ds and from my research they would rather i go to hospital but i shall see anyway...my midwife will be the one that delivered ds also.

right i have kfc awaiting me....mmm

AprilMeadow · 01/02/2009 20:52

Oh what that's not fair! I LOVE kfc and it is too cold for me to be arsed to go get one. Enjoy!

GracieGirl · 01/02/2009 21:42

Silently - Baby Bond in Birmingham is at The Natural Health Centre, The Green, Kings Norton. Its £95.

Iamamummy - thanks for the reassurance about Baby Bond, I just trawled the internet, then phoned a few places up yesterday and booked with the one who was nicest on the phone! Silly that my local private hospital doesn't provide medical reports on the scans just lets you look yourself like watching the tv, not much use really.

Just hope I don't get snowed in tomorrow! Just driven from Hull to Derby, that was bad enough.

newbie36 · 02/02/2009 07:54

Yippee for snow - good news for my ridiculous tiredness - couldn't come at a better time! The no london buses and not my inability to get out of bed because of sheer exhaustion will be my reason not to go to work this morning - thank you to all london bus drivers who have said it's too dangerous to drive!

In answer to Evie a few days back - I work at George's but not A and E.

I'm hoping that everyone is able to take advantage of the no travel and stay at home weather today!

TrixieBelden · 02/02/2009 08:04

Snow day here -- no nursery for DD, no work for DH. Hope it clears up tomorrow as I would hate to reschedule my booking appointment; am going away for two weeks on Saturday!

Snowfalls108 · 02/02/2009 09:19

agh!
It's my booking appointment today at the C&W. Just rang them, appointments are still happening, but how on earth am I going to get there!
No buses, no tubes (or very few), think I'll have to walk. Reckon it'll take me about an hour.

I have been able to make it into work as unfortuantely I live 2 minutes from the office, at the moment I'm the only one here. London looks very pretty though.

I'm meant to be flying out to Switzerland tomorrow as well - do you think the airports will get in gear by then. Eeek!
