So excited to be starting my first thread!!!

Just had a BFP this morning a couple of days before AF is due and according to FF, my EDD is 1st September 09.

I have one DD (March 05) and had MMC in late September this year, so a little nervous but really ready for this.

Looking forward to a few more people joining me on here!

Bobber Fantastic news, it still want stop you worring until you reach that magic 12wk mark but a least you now have a reason for why its happening

Garlic yes, my dh had some in his baked beans yesterday & I couldn't go near him all night, the smell was soooo overpowering & I usually love red wine but again he had some at the weekend & I couldn't stand the smell of it on his breath & wouldn't let him kiss me

BabyLady · 27/01/2009 09:36

Morning ladies,

welcome to all the newbies and well done Bobber in getting some answers. Can be so frustrating when you don't see the right people.

Bexxa I want a Phil & Teds too! I am only on number one but don't want to pay out for two expensive buggies (planning on a second one at some point in the future). In Chiswick (where I live) every second Mum has one.

smileycat · 27/01/2009 09:50

Just got back from my scan & was so happy to see a heart beat, a head, arms & buds for legs, it makes it all seems so real now. Had to book in with a midwife so I guess word will now get out (small community) my gyni wants me to go for a proper dating scan could be as early as Thursday as her machine is old & not calibrated to give a good measurement.
She said that there is a 20% chance of miscarriage in the 1st 6wks then when you see a heart beat between 6 & 8wks it goes down to around 7%, then after 8wks its a little as 1% to 1/2%. hope that puts some minds at rest

detoxdiva · 27/01/2009 10:49

Smileycat - great news about the scan. How exciting.

Bobber - so pleased you've got some answers and have had your mind put at rest as much as is possible at this stage. Good luck with the scan tomorrow - are you off to the Lister? They were great there last week when I went - have my follow up EPU scan next Wed to check my dates again. Am hoping this won't affect me getting a 12 week scan too (I'm very scan greedy at the moment!). Still, it will be good to get some clarity on dates.

Still feeling fine here. Thankfully no sickness so far. My dates put me at 8+4, but have the feeling I'll get put back a week or so after the scan. Went out on Sat and managed to make a glass of wine last all night. Only 2 friends at work know, so want to keep it that way for another week or so.

Can completely identify with the increasing bust syndrome . Dh thinks it's great, but I was 36D before getting pg, and that's quite enough for me!!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 27/01/2009 12:54

Welcome newbies and congratulations I can't believe I've had to go back 2 pages to catch up! Brain has now turned to mush...

Pleased things are looking good for you Bobber - excellent. I'm desperate for a scan but still no call from the mw. I'm now 7+4. Humph

However, sickness has now pretty much gone, little bit in the morning when I'm hungry but managing to have breakfast. Just feel a little dizzy when stood up on the train. On the whole, feeling good.

Well chuffed that I'm filling my 36B bra - whoop whoop... hoping to graduate to a C cup! Any bra advice? Can I just get 'normal' bras in the new size or do I need maternity ones? Obviously I'll get some nursing ones in due course as I plan to breast feed but don't want to waste money now if I don't need to.

weeglenny · 27/01/2009 12:55

Hi ladies can I join too please? Due I think 11th September, already have DS (16 months) - and feeling sick at the moment

don't take it to heart stayfrosty... my local hosp are exactly the same. I had a dating scan yesterday (I am having a cvs and we need to be as accurate as poss about dates). The sonographer wouldn't measure, just showed me a heartbeat and said 'ummm, about 4 weeks?' I said I was pretty damn sure you can't see a heartbeat at that stage especially through the abdomen, called a colleague in who said 'yeah more like 6 weeks plus'. So there was my 'accurate dating scan'. Now got to go back to gp to get another referral for an ACCURATE dating scan in a fortnight or I can't have the cvs.Excuse my french but 'tis fucking ridiculous! I'm transferring to a different hosp for this one! Don'tr put up with their rubbish stayfrosty it is important you are seen and you are just as important with a 5 week bump as someone with a 38 week bump. So there! Rant over! I feel better now...

silentlywondering · 27/01/2009 13:41

Huge hugs frosty, I have had he same kind of treatment in the past and it sucks. To them though it is just routine and we are just numbers they forget sometimes that we are people with very real fears especially when you have thyroid problems cause that makes the first trimester even more scary especially if you have had a previous mc.

paranoidmummy · 27/01/2009 13:42

ps. totally normal to just see a sac at this stage, baby is tiny tiny like a grain of rice. Hard to pick up even on internal scan. HTH

TigerFeet · 27/01/2009 13:43

Hi everyone, welcome to all the new BFP's

Headfairy and Missymoo, not sure if you're still here but sending you love anyway.

Bobber, glad to hear your news is more positive

I'm 6+5 today and it seems that nothing is staying down, I have lost over half a stone in the past couple of weeks. I am back at work this week as it doesn't seem as bad but if this keeps up much longer then I reserve the right to go completely insane.

Boobs are the same although they seem perter somehow. I went into Mothercare at the weekend to ask about maternity/feeding bras and they don't do them in my size (J cup)

PurpleCrazyHorse, when pg with my dd I moved from underwired to non wired bras at about 3 months iirc, when my size changed and the underwiring started to dig in. I got some (v. attractive ) sports bras & non wired bras from M&S. You can get maternity bras from places like mothercare but imho they are no different to normal non-wired bras. I also started wearing bras at night at some point, can't remember when though! I got nursing bras at about 8 months as they had grown again, then wore them up until the birth and then afterwards for breastfeeding. My boobs were a lot smaller last time though so it was loads easier to find bras.

TigerFeet · 27/01/2009 13:46

Gosh sorry x posted with a few of you there

StayFrosty & paranoidmummy that sounds rough . I hope you both get answers soon.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 27/01/2009 13:47

Big thanks to fellow MNers posting their scan and appointment dates. I've had enough of waiting for the MWs at my GP surgery so I've just called Caerphilly birth centre and made my own appointment. Going along on 11th Feb at 6:30pm. Brilliant, no need to wiggle out of work either. Not sure if I'll have a scan at the same time but I did need to be well over 8 wks so fingers crossed. Plus get a tour around too.

TigerFeet · 27/01/2009 13:49

I'm still waiting for a scan date to come through. I am seeing the MW for booking in on 10th Feb but that's based at the GP surgery. If I haven't got a date by then I'll ask the MW to arrange it for me, the GP seemed a bit vague tbh so not sure if I have been referred to the hospital or not!

LJ29 · 27/01/2009 14:08

Hi there, not postd for ages so apologies. For all of you worrying about not having your scan appointment, in my experience this is quite normal as your MW will complete the paperwork and refer you for it at your booking in appointment. I don't think the GP has anything to do with it as MWs tend to make these arrangements so i really wouldn't worry although I know how frustrating it is.

I'm fine, 7+4 now. Tend to get a bit nauseous in the afternoon and evening. Nipples feel like they have clamps on them and very tired so hoping all is ok. My anxiety levels are through the roof tho. I am really trying to be positive and have even had baby name conversations but I just feel so scared and unable to relax until I have at least had my scan. I had a couple of small bleeds at 4/5 weeks but nothing sinceand no pain, and couldn't have a scan because it was too early. I've had the stretchy/twangy feelings at the sides of my lower abdomen which I hope are a good sign because it means something is still growing No walk in EPU here either so just have to wait.

I've got my booking in app on Monday when I will be 8+2 so at least I have that to look forward to. Sorry for the very self centred post.

pooka · 27/01/2009 14:31

NO booking appt here until around 12 weeks! That's when the medical history and blood are taken.

Did get my scan appt for the nuchal at kings. But was the day before the private scan and so have cancelled. So just waiting for 24th February really.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 27/01/2009 14:32

Thanks TigerFeet much appreciated. Will head on over to M&S. Underwired is ok at the mo but it's uncomfortable to sleep in. Didn't think of my sports bra so will dig that out for now.

Cheers!

mumtobe23 · 27/01/2009 14:41

HI ladies. I have my first midwife appt tomorrow afternoon and I'm quite nervous (I'm anxious all the right atm!) Does any experienced ladies know what i can expect at the first midwife appt, i.e do they take blood/ weigh me etc?
Its in a "childrens center" not a dr's surgery or hospital.
Also have my first scan date for the 17th feburary come through so im looking forward to / dreading it!

I love the fact we're all at the same stage and have the same worries/feelings. Coming on here really helps me out...I should be working but im hooked!

Tinkerbelly · 27/01/2009 15:51

Hi all,

Sorry not posted for ages. Sorry to hear about the difficulties some have been having.

I've had the flu and been totally miserable! The doc signed me off work this week with a 'flu-like illness'. Feeling much better today, but now the flu has gone the MS seems 10x worse! Is anyone else experiencing excessive saliva in their mouths? It makes me gag and retch. Gross I know! I looked it up and it does have a medical name. I wish it would go away! Also have lower back ache and some pelvic discomfort. Bit nervous as I had PSD with my DS, but that was later on and they couldn't do anything but give me crutches! Seeing MW for booking appt on Thurs so will mention it then.

The booking appt isn't anything to worry about mumtobe23. I'm guessing it is at a Children's Centre as that's where the midwife is based. The midwife will go through a really long form with you, take a blood sample, answer any questions you have etc. Mine is at home. The GP gave me a pack with the form in it already and loads of other leaflets, info about classes at the hospital... I even got a bag to put the blood sample in! Eeek!

StealthPo09IsHere · 27/01/2009 17:33

Hi everyone
No news here, just sick of waiting for my 1st MW \appointment, makes it all 'official' somehow

AprilMeadow · 27/01/2009 18:35

Hi ladies

Bobber so please that you have an answer

The sickness is awful! I wasnt this bad with the other two and even dragged my pathetic self down the dr's this afternoon to see if they could give me something to get rid of the nausea. The dr basically told me to 'man up' and i was pregnant (durr i know that). If i was being sick then of course there were things i could have. blah blah blah....

On the norks front mine have definitely filled out and i think i have gone from a 32c to 32d.

I HEART the Phil & Ted!! I had one with my two. DS was 2 when DD was born so it was perfect, i just wish i had bought it when he was a baby. It is super fantastic. Although the P&T Vibe is also very lovely. If you can afford it get the package that includes the cocoon and doubles kit even if this is your first, that way even if it is a few years down the line when you have dc2 you will not need to splash out on a new buggy. Unfortunately for me i SOLD mine last year as i wasnt planning on dc3 just yet. Although i think its harder this time choosing a buggy as dd will be 2.5 and ds 4.5 when bubs arrives. I am going to enjoy testing out the buggies

I have my private scan on Tuesday at the Fetal Medical Center and will be 8wks2d then the following day i have my booking in appointment with the mw.

I am another one who is permanently bloated - will be placing an order with Next this week i think.

WantedToBeABoy · 27/01/2009 18:44

Hello ladies

It's great to hear about everyone going through the same sorts of things, so I know it's not just me going mental! I've been off work today with diarrhoea - not good, but I think it must be a bug/virus rather than anything I've eaten because other half had it too but 24 hours earlier and we've been eating the exact same things - and I guess if anything I would be more susceptible atm. I've been trying not to get paranoid about listeria etc, but I haven't been eating anything risky and anyway, apparently that's more usually flu-like symptoms. Sometimes I hate the internet...

Otherwise all going OK touch wood - had an early scan because I was getting one-sided pain, and everything was in the right place and they said they could see a heartbeat.

I've been trying to solve the bra dilemma too - my normal underwired ones are getting a bit tight and exacerbating the soreness. I went to M&S and skulked around the maternity bra section - still feel like I shouldn't be there! But I tried them on and they were awful - made my boobs look like squashed shelves. Plus they have pink bows on them - why the hell would being pregnant mean you suddenly want pink bows on plain black and white bras?? So I'm just going to try to get the most inoffensive non-wired normal bras I can find.

Anyway, will stop blithering on - I sympathise with everyone who's finding the system somewhat Kafka-esque - sometimes you'd think the NHS had never seen anyone in early pregnancy before!
