So excited to be starting my first thread!!!

Just had a BFP this morning a couple of days before AF is due and according to FF, my EDD is 1st September 09.

I have one DD (March 05) and had MMC in late September this year, so a little nervous but really ready for this.

Looking forward to a few more people joining me on here!

Hi everyone!

Blimey HeadFairy you're doing well, working nights would kill me I reckon!

When I was pregnant with dd I saw the midwife at our GP's surgery so I'm assuming the same will happen this time - although I will have a 5+ year gap so things could well change in that time. I rang the surgery yesterday asking to see the midwife and they said I have to see the GP first for a referral - seems like a massive waste of the GP's time to me.

TF "I'm pregnant"
GP "Well I'd better refer you to the midwife then"

I have an appointment tomorrow morning so I suppose I'll be in the system then.

We're in the middle of a mahoosive restructure at work atm, my job is at risk of redundancy. We have put forward a proposal that myself and a colleague do a job share so that no-one in our team gets made redundant so fingers crossed that it's accepted. I already work part time but my colleague is full time so I'm enormously grateful that she's in a position to cut her hours. Getting another job would be tricky atm anyway without the added complication of being pregnant.

I'm feeling a bit iffy in the morning but no real MS yet. I'm just tired and hungry . I've eaten healthily so far today but sometimes that there are gaps that only chocolate cake will fill

audreyraines · 13/01/2009 13:51

Tigerfeet, i agree, it's a waste of time. It's not like the GP really does anything for that referral appointment.

"Are you taking folic acid?" yes.
"Do you know what food restrictions there are?" yes.
"Do you drink?" Not now.
"Do you smoke?" No.

Ok, I'll refer you. That is it. And DS and I had to wait 35 minutes for that as GP was running really late.

cautiousmumtobe · 13/01/2009 14:50

Trixie - reassurance is at hand. The knicker checking thing is normal in my book - in fact, have just got back from a check myself when I saw ur post!

TF and Audrey - I take it you guys just have to wait for a booking in appointment now which will potentially be around 10-12 weeks?? It sucks having to wait that long for any type of reassurance. I might get an early appointment because the due date off my last cycle is actually 30 Aug which would make me 7+2 but I reckon I'm more like 5+4 cause my cycle was really long after my mc in August. I guess this means I'll get an early appointment but the bean will probably be too little to tell mcuh from.
No MS here yet but I'm sure its only a matter of time. 6 weeks was the kick off for me that last 2 pgs so no doubt I'll go completely off all food at the weekend. Have just enjoyed a wispa bar tho to make up for it!

Snowfalls108 · 13/01/2009 15:03

I've been told my booking appointment should be in a couple of weeks - between 6 - 8 weeks, and then the scan at 12 weeks.

GP was next to useless, especailly as I had various concerns to which she responded the MW will take more details!

Rubbish.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 13/01/2009 15:38

Loving the useless GPs Luckily I only had to pop into mine and fill in a form for the MW. However had to shout pretty loud over the ringing phones to say that I was PG, it was good I live in a different town to mum. The whole waiting room must have heard!

What sort of stuff happens at the booking appointment and is there anything I should ask?

undercovermummy · 13/01/2009 16:47

The booking in appts are very very long! They go through your medical history and basically go through a check list of any hereditary illnesses there might be on either your side or your dh/dp'd side. They tend to go through the choices for where you can have the baby, take bloods, check your urine (you will need to take a sample with you), check your bp and let you know when the other appts will be and what is done in each one. I think you fill in a form for your maternity exemption card that gives you free prescriptions etc if this is not your first then the time can vary greatly. If you had a trouble free pg previously then it can be fairly quick however if you have suffered mc's or a traumatic birth then they will go through that with you.

Thinks that most of it... it was 2006 the last time i had a booking in appt

bigbang · 13/01/2009 17:18

I didn't have a booking appointment until 13 weeks last time, even had the scan first, even though I saw GP at about 7 weeks (I think, can't remember exactly). I didn't think twice about not being seen till then and now 8 weeks sounds really early to be seeing a midwife! I did see the gp several times about the ms though. I suspect it will be the same system this time.

I'm starting to feel 'pregnant' now its sunk in a bit which is nice. I'm getting excited! I'm totally jumping the gun and thinking of names and stuff... Its going to be a long 9 months!

detoxdiva · 13/01/2009 17:49

Ha at the gp's! I went to gp last time but this time I just went along to the surgery, picked up the paperwork to fill in and phoned the mw direct Have 1st meeting with her tomorrow to fill in all the forms etc etc!

Welcome Stretch - I am hoping for a home birth this time, so I'll be picking your brains and expertise in the future hopefully

vesela · 13/01/2009 18:10

Hello! I found out on 30th December and I'm due (with our second) on 5th September.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday (I live in the Czech Republic so the system's different - I'm British, though) and she found a 7mm blob with a heartbeat. I've got another appointment at 9 weeks for bloods etc. and a nuchal test, which seems a bit early but still.

Not much MS yet - I definitely felt sicker than this at this point the first time round, although it didn't kick in with a vengeance until about 7-8 weeks.

olivo · 13/01/2009 18:38

just popping by to say hi.
stealth, think i'm due around 28th aug but may join yuo lot once i'm more sure! off to the dr to let them know tomorrow. feeling rough as...... take care of yourself, i'll drop by to see how all you ttc buddies are doing!

lemonmoon · 13/01/2009 21:09

hello to vesela and olivo!

I feel very fortunate that I don't have to see the GP since it seems pretty pointless. What a waste of everyone's time.

I had a nap this afternoon - one and a half hours! I'm self employed and don't have much on today so something else to feel grateful for. Weird how physical it is already...

Am also knicker checking, which I think is because of the cramps fooling me into thinking that AF is on its way. I'm still surprised every time that it isn't

StealthPo09IsHere · 13/01/2009 22:17

Hi olivo - that would explain it!
My GP was useless last time
"Are you taking folic acid?"
"Yes"
"Go and make an appointment with the MW. Is a natural thing, pregnancy"
"Erm...sorry for wasting your time"

Is there any need to hurry to get a booking in appointment? This time I feel in no rush - think because last time I tried to do everything quickly and as a result my pg seemed 3x as long as everyone else's!

pooka · 13/01/2009 22:20

The only reason I'm doing it now is that I want to get in the system for scans and also the health exemption certificate

mummyhill · 14/01/2009 07:45

Pooka,

Just popped in to see who was due a sept baby this year. Congratulations sweetheart another sept baby.

pooka · 14/01/2009 07:48

Thanks MH

The Sept 05 club seems like ages ago. Hope you're all well.

mummyhill · 14/01/2009 07:58

my 2 are running round screaming their heads off atm. but we are all fine. Pop in and say hi on the ante natal thread, some of us still manage to post there ocassionaly!

pooka · 14/01/2009 08:26

Oh! I will pop on later. Thanks for that.

Suppose should really get a wriggle on to go to school.

bratnav · 14/01/2009 09:06

My GP was useless too, there really was a 'Why are you here?' sort of attitude

Booking in appointment was yesterday, all went well and my MW is fab, didn't bat an eyelid when I said I wanted a home birth, amazing!

I signed the medical exemption form, which she said she will fill in for me after I have been for my 2nd scan next week (only sac seen last week), I didn't know that we get free swimming as well as prescriptions and dentists, very pleased as I was planning on going anyway, especially after she weighed me and I was 85kg

Hope you're all well.

audreyraines · 14/01/2009 11:31

It's great that GPs are seeing home birth as more normal these days. I had one with ds1 and it was wonderful, hoping to do it again.

audreyraines · 14/01/2009 11:38

Stealth, I'm in no rush at all. As long as there is a midwife here at the moment of birth, I'm not too fussed about anything else!

What's this about free swimming? I've never heard that before.

bratnav · 14/01/2009 11:50

Free entry to all local pools whenever I like, maybe it is just my HA?

bigbang · 14/01/2009 11:55

Wow bratnav that sounds great. I didn't get that 2 years ago but maybe they have introduced it

ahfeckit · 14/01/2009 12:42

hello all, congrats to everyone with their BFP! I got a BFP last night and gestimate that i'm due around 19 September 09.
DOC: either 29th or 30th Dec 08.

already have DS(21mo).

hope everyone is coping with MS or whatever they've been plagued with. so far just the nausea is really getting to me...still, it's all for a good reason!

DingALongCow · 14/01/2009 13:31

Hello! Just found out today that I am having a September baby (doctor thinks about 14th). I had no idea as my periods have been haywire since I had the implanon implant removed in September. I had to take a sample for the doctors today for another problem and tested on the offchance with a cheap test I had hanging around.

I have one DD already who is 3.5 and I feel like I have forgotten everything. Had to rush out and buy folic acid as I havent been taking it (wasnt expecting to get pregnant!). DH is a bit shellshocked .

Snowfalls108 · 14/01/2009 14:38

Right ladies, I need help.
I've been invited for dinner on Friday by a friend, who I don't want to tell yet (as I'll only be 5+1) and will obviously not be drinking.
What can be wrong with me so I can say I'm on antibiotics? Any ideas?
