Don't know if you will see this, Hiccy, but jolly well done! And welcome to young Luke.

SummerLightning · 13/12/2008 17:18

Hello everyone!

verso that would annoy me too!! You are perfectly entitled to feel pissed off. But at least it sounds like he has got the message and is trying to help now. I don't seem to have this "helping" problem with DH, this is because I am a bit of a slob and so he has always taken it as read that he has to do his share of tidying up, etc . Don't have any good advice but hope you have a good sleep.

ladyt I don't think you're being spoilt and daft!! The weather and not feeling back on form after the birth and everything will leave you a bit out of sorts at any rate. Am sure you have nothing to worry about though!!

I was thinking about pixsix earlier as well, I hope she is doing great and that she is just busy now she is home with her little one.

veggie lots and lots of luck, will be thinking of you, hope to hear the good news soon!!

And gbb hope the contractions started!

Oli I liked the sound of your recipe but what do you do with the rice? Do you just serve it with it or does it go in the stuffing, as it doesn't mention it??

jj seriously if you want anyone to pop out and get anything or anything like that then text me as I can always pop out to the shops for you easily. and hope you sort out DH's diabetes thing soon.

Oh and another thing from Thursday night that made me happy - one of my friends said to me he keeps asking DH when out on mountain bike rides if he's looking forward to the baby arriving and apparently he just beams and says he is "so excited", which is lovely. . Though he did come out with a cracker this morning:
Me: I'm massive, doesn't it put you off sex?
Him: No, I just pretend I'm having sex with more than one person
I think this was a "joke". Sigh.

IceCube · 13/12/2008 18:40

Verso - Definately not expectng too much of your DH, I've made it quite plain that while he's off on paternity leave he will be responsible for everything I would normally do i.e. shopping, cooking, basic cleaning etc as I will be up feeding baby on demand so getting less sleep.

He still keeps refering to his time off as holiday and saying how much he's looking forward he not being at work )

LadyThompson · 13/12/2008 18:56

Thanks Summer. I think you did well to not chuck the helmet at his head the other night tbh

Verso, I hope your DH bucks his ideas up. Time for a gentle word? In my experience they respond far better to carrot rather than stick, however tempting stick may be!

artichokes · 13/12/2008 19:23

Hiya

Back from a very fun party. No progress labour wise despite leaving my notes at home.

It was a lunch/afternoon thing. Nothing as exciting as a night at the Ivy LadyT (I had my 21st there). I am so impressed that you are going for such a night so soon. I do not think I had a glam night out for 5 months after having DD! Anyway it sounds like you need cheering up. I think it is very hard to have a new baby in the depths of winter as you feel a bit trapped inside. And for you to be in a new village far from friends is extra hard. I also think births make us think more about those we have lost. I am sorry you are missing your DH so much.

How goes it Veggie? I hope I am as chipper as you while contracting! Except I expect I will be induced and cross and stuck on some scummy ward.

No news from GBB? Hopefully the contractions have started.

I am off to briefly pop my head in another party! Just a neighbour's christmas do, but I am still impressed by my stamina. I just put on a new outfit and as I said goodnight to DD she pronounced that I looked "just like Granny". Great. Granny is 70 and I am 30...

Verso · 13/12/2008 19:27

Thanks, everyone. Harmony has briefly been restored by a nap . Am sure I will lose my rag again but he always ends up with the moral high ground, however tired I may be, because of his MS. Never seems to stop him doing the stuff HE wants to though . We survived similar with DD1 so will get through it - I just need to learn to park my resentment until DD2 is weaned!!

pd did you ask me about the silverette? Yes they worked - but I don't think it was any mythical silver healing powers - just the simple expedient of reducing chafing!!

LadyThompson · 13/12/2008 19:59

Wow, some 21st Arti!

You are right about being far from friends though. Most of my mates are of course in London town. But I am having a wee tripette there on Tuesday night.

JamInMyWellies · 13/12/2008 20:03

LadyT much love to you I cant possibly imagine the emotional upheaval that you have been through in the last 2yrs. Just remember that you have your precious Ocatvia and a wonderful DP. x

Verso bloody DP/H's sometime they really havnt got a fookin clue.

GBB & Veggie lots of luck hope its all happening for you.

Big hellos to everyone else.

So have been for my acupuncture today and done a spot of yoga nothing happening so far the acupuncturist didnt think I would need another session. She also said I might get lots of braxton hicks but have had nothing and in fact I feel more energised than I have for a few weeks.

Soo much good trashy telly tonight have watched Strictly now Xfactor will have to tape girls aloud and watch strictly final.

JamInMyWellies · 13/12/2008 20:24

Jaysus this baby really needs to come out soon I just started crying at the SMA milk ad.

EffiePerine · 13/12/2008 20:30

Am hoping no news is good news from Veggie. And congratulations to Hiccy

Verso: no advice, just a primal AAARGGHH for you. It's astounding how partners manage to say exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Mibbes: congrats on getting DS latched on, you're doing really well

Had a lovely day today despite the freezing rain, out for lunch and DS behaved really well, chatting to the waiters and scoffing everything in sight. Back for a long nap, then telly while DH enjoyed himself taking his Christmas present apart and putting it back together with much bad language (I got him an old portable typewriter from Ebay and there was something amiss with the roller). DS now in bed and hoping for a peaceful evening.

EffiePerine · 13/12/2008 20:33

LadyT: hope DP is nicely attentive this evening. And remember your DD thinks you're the most amazing woman in the world - in fact you are her world at the moment . It gets better to, I was snuggling up with DS earlier and he announced 'Kiss mummy' and planted a smacker on my cheek.

EffiePerine · 13/12/2008 20:33

too

traceface · 13/12/2008 21:47

hello again!
Have just been released from hospital this evening so have brought Phoebe home finally! Thanks for all the congratulations, and well done everyone else who's popped while I've been off-line!
Won't give the gory details yet (wouldn't want to scare anyone!!!)...
Phoebe is beautiful...shame she wants to feed continually - and she vomits and vomits and vomits.....then wants to feed again because she's hungry! grrrrr. She's stimulating plenty of milk production though!
Will try to keep popping on between feeding hungry Phoebe and pacifying poorly, fragile, tired Lucy! The joys of motherhood!
Take care everyone....xxx

EffiePerine · 13/12/2008 21:48

Lovely to see you Trace

zoejeanne · 13/12/2008 22:08

Evening everyone ? just watched strictly and shocked about the outcome! Can?t possibly go to bed now after that excitement so I thought I?d pop on here for a chat.

Congratulations to Hiccy ? Luke is a lovely name for your boy.

I really feel for those of you struggling with DP?s/DH?s ? it has made me think about how our life will change with a baby and how it will affect (effect?) our partnership ? I know I become irrational and snappy when tired, and DH gets sulky, so I will be on here ranting away in a couple of weeks or so. I read somewhere (on MN? a magazine? forgotten where) about a couple who had a code word that always made them laugh, and whenever they were mid argument one of them would say the funny word and defuse the moment. It seemed daft when I read it, but seeing how completely normal it is to get frustrated with each other, it?s maybe not such a bad idea. So what funny word shall I come up with ?? And (hugs) to those of you have argued today, I hope you?ve all kissed and made up now, as I can only imagine (but not for long) how hard it must be to feel unsupported at such a different time.

SL ? don?t know whether to or be at your DH?s joke this morning. But bless him for being so excited. My DH said last night he would be a bit sad when I?m not pregnant anymore as he likes to drop ?my pregnant wife? into conversations with people, but then I pointed out he could replace it with ?my son/daughter? and he got all excited about that.

Arti ? glad you enjoyed your party, and it was probably a good thing you didn?t go into labour, might have not been so much fun! And enjoy party no 2 (I assume you must look like a very glamorous granny!)

Must get back to the trashy TV ? just like Jam! Night all, sleep tight xx

Veggiemummy · 13/12/2008 22:53

Just a quicky veggiebaby was born at home into veggie daddys hands at 9.19pm 8lb1oz more later. Oh I used a bit of g&a.

Yay for veggie and veggiebaby and all at home! You're a superstar

JamInMyWellies · 13/12/2008 23:02

Congrats well done veggie, Mr Veggie and baby veggie.

Turniphead1 · 13/12/2008 23:14

Yay for veggie and Veggiebaby - big big congratulations!!!

Trace good to hear from you! Cuddles to you lovely DDs

Jam SNAP about the SMA ad - it made me all tearful. Not least because of what we have been talking about this evening (DHs and DPs pulling their weight and maybe appreciating how difficult it is carrying these babies and then feeding them and caring for them...)
I also watched Strictly (think there will be a big fuss about the voting thing) and Xfactor. My DS's namesake came third - boo hoo! My brain is mush!!

The Pampers vaccination ad always makes me emotional too - and want to hold my newborn!

LadyT how tough for you. You keep it together so well and I am so impressed that you still are in touch with your deceased DH's father. It must mean a lot to him, but I am sure was hard seeing you with BabyLady. Know what you mean about a little token or something from the DP.

It agravates me that it would be so easy for my DH to do a tiny little thing to show he knows its hard right now, I could think of a million things (and not all involving diamonds and/or expense ).

Thinking of abby and zj this weekend before their big days on Monday.

arti sending you labour vibes! At the very least, you are using your extra time wisely and getting to a lot of parties. You are the Tara P-T of our board!

Summer Can I confess I found your DP's comment about sex very funny don't hate me....

bisou hope you get rested. And thanks for the link and about GBS and the butterfly thingy yesterday - going to ask about that on Wed at 39 week check.

*Ice( lol at your DH thinking paternity leave would be a holiday....a rude awakening awaits I think!

Thinking of GBB and hoping all lovely and straightfoward (and hopefully, over!) and that she is holding her beautiful twins.

effie you are right - it does just keep getting better where children are concerned. Bless your DD, what a love.

All these babies are keeping my mind of the fact that I could have a good way to go til I am holding my own little one...

Sending sleeping/good feeding vibes to those with babies and restful night/reduced wee trips to those of us till waiting...

SummerLightning · 13/12/2008 23:31

veggie wahoo....congratulations!!!

turnip I confess I found it quite funny too... I have no idea how men's minds work wrt to sex, but I would imagine that the idea of having sex with one very large woman is quite different from having sex with more than one small lithe one, so I think it was a joke

arti sorry but I laughed at your dd saying that you look like granny...oops.

Just been to see the Changleling at the cinema, not sure it is the best thing to be watching when pregnant but it was very good. Sproggie seemed to go mental throughout though, which was very uncomfortable!

Turniphead1 · 13/12/2008 23:40

Summer have been wanting to see Changeling but will prob now wait til DVD/sky as too fat to go to cinema!

I am feeling a bit crampy. But it's normally a sign I need the loo. Still it would be nice to provide the baby for the 14th. We seem to be on a rate of 1/2 per day, eh!

Jeez but Girls Aloud are great!

Hurrah Veggie! Well done on the HB of your new son, can't wait to hear all about it.

I think we need a new arrivals list, as there are a few updates...

Verso · 14/12/2008 08:15

Morning, everyone. ice I look forward with interest to reading about your DH's reaction once the baby arrives! "holiday" yeah, right!

LadyT I don't think your post was self-pitying at all - it's totally understandable that you should miss your DH. I find that having a new baby makes me think about mortality and bereavements much more than usual - don't be too hard on yourself. Grief takes years... and this is a very delicate and emotional time anyway, which is bound to emphasise the loss. {{{hugs}}} Thanks for the tips re Infacol and gripe water. Only thing with Infacol is the faff of doing it every feed and also the taste. Have you tried it? It's bogging! (to coin a phrase)... but might try though.

DD2 is fine after she's farted but sometimes it takes her ages of squirming (and therefore not settling) to get one out.

Congratulations to hiccy and veggie .

summer hope you gave your DH a slap for his 'joke'!!

mibbes well done you for how you're managing with the feeding!! Especially with your DH 'forgetting' he had promised to do a feed . As for length of breast feeds - it varies, but if DD2 did less than 15 mins on one boob I would worry she wasn't getting hindmilk. Dd1 used to snack a lot, which meant she got lots of foremilk (the watery stuff) which filled her up but gave her horrendous wind (much worse than DD2 has) and green frothy nappies. With DD2 I find she will stay on for up to 40 minutes (although I check to make sure she's swallowing after about 20 minutes, as comfort sucking can get quite painful). I have shamelessly introduced a dummy this time round (tried it with DD1 but foolishly didn't persevere) and it really helps when I've just done a big feed (say 40 mins - with most of that on one side) and DD2 can't settle herself. (More food would just upset her tummy.)

Sorry - that turned into an epic screed!

Got through last night's 2am feed post-row by reading MN and digging out some old posts I made when DD1 was born. Crikey. It's a miracle we're still married!! All I can say to those of us tired, sore, grumpy etc is it gets MUCH easier around three months - even with my insomniac DD1 things got more bearable once she was a giggly, smiley bundle of joy during the day!
