Morning Kay, you are in trouble, had v. wierd dream last night, boiled sweets are not supposed to perform ECV's, not even sherbert dibdab lollies, it is just wrong (and a bit odd seeing a lolly all dressed up in OTT scrubs with a face mask and everything.....)

OK, those of you that said you wouldn't have an ECV, why wouldn't you? I am sure I've heard/seen various different scare stories about them, but now I am trying to find said scare stories I can't find one, but I know it's not as simple and straight forward as they were trying to make out, which when I've asked a straight forward question, like "I've heard people having to use G&A, is it that painful?" and I get the loaded answer: "Noooo, at most uncomfortable", kind of makes me feel a little bit uneasy. And, if it was as simple and straightforward as they say, why all the monitoring and scans and them being ready to go straight to EMCS? Surely if it was simple and straightforward you'd go in, they'd check he's still breech, try to turn him, you leave....? Blackburn hospital is a massive newly built place, the sort of place that would have attracted lots of very clever doctors, and yet there is only two people in the whole building that can do these ECV's. I am not convinced, by a long shot. But then I think it may be our only chance of avoiding a CS, which as long as I keep getting better at the rate I am doing and don't get any other sodding bug or infection or anything else then a CS is the last thing I want.

Sorry am truly rambling out loud. Just can't make my mind up. And DH keep saying don't worry about it, he could move back yet, which of course is very true, but I don't do 'don't worry about it yet' type things, and whilst I can still feel his head in my ribs, it's not exactly something I can put to the back of my mind.

Sorry I am still rambling aren't I?

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 11/12/2008 08:13

Morning Nat

LOL about boiled sweets performing ECVs.....Not rambling at all either...

Afraid I've got no thoughts on to ECV or not ECV (confesses to just looking up what an ECV is... didnt even know that was option )

Antenatal yoga last night.... I always look around room at women at certain number of weeks and think of the equivalents in the Wagon... bumps really do get big...

Im the baby of the class, everyone else is 30+ wks....

Morning everyone else. I've got a pre-maternity leave workshop at work today... Quite excited about it (means not seeing boss for day! Lots more bumps to look at....

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 08:43

Morning,

LOL at sweet doctors!!!!

I also have had to google ECV, didn't have a clue what it was.
I honestly don't know if I would have it done. It sounds painful and the risk of getting Pre-Eclampsia would put me off. But at the same time I'd like to try to avoid a CS at all costs.
Ha I am useless.

I dreamt I had the baby and he was 'normal' but he wasn't normal. He had FEET. Everyone else had wheels instead of feet, MIL accused me of sleeping with an alien. So we went on the Sir Cliff Richard show for a DNA test and he was DH's and DH carries a recessive gene for feet instead of wheels.

It was mad, don't know where it came from at all.

Hope you are all ok this morning.

Cosmogirl · 11/12/2008 09:03

Not too sure on the turning thing. Have just heard it can be really painful and the baby could just switch back to breech afterwards - think it has a 50 per cent success rate. And if the baby gets distressed during the procedure they would have to do an early CS. Only read bits and bobs on it though. Some women are fine with it, others won't even consider it and would rather leave the baby where it is and go for the CS.

In 'what the hell has happened to my social life news' I caught boob leakage in action last night for the first time! I thought I had started leaking the colostrum stuff the other night because I was in bed and felt wet stuff on my arm. Then last night it happened again and then I was actually able to squeeze some out of my right nipple!! My god, I really have no life at all....

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 11/12/2008 09:21

Hi Cosmo

I've had a bit of that... not quite wet arm but other signs that suggest its leaking (too grim to mention at 9am!)

Quite exciting...

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 11/12/2008 09:23

Morning! LOL at these crazy dreams! I had a rather disturbing one last night where I was diagnised with eye cancer and was very releived when I woke up!
Re:ECV I sort of think along the lines of COSMO. I have heard a few horror stories about emergency c-sections, but also of women I know who have had it tried and found it ok (albeit painful)though didn;t work (or did, and then baby turned back!)
LOL at leaky boobs COSMO!!! Never got a drop out before labour with dds, and was always amazed how it was 'there' after!

I need to advice of the wagon now for a decision...I have had planned for many months now a trip to York with close friend who I only see 2 to 3 times a year. We put it off due to my sickness a few weeks back, me thinking I would be fine by 12 weeks. Really want to go, and feel I would be letting her down not to, but I am still being sick 2/3 times a day. My thinking at the moment is to go, and take it as easy as I can - just a bit worried about being sick etc outside of my own home. Any advice??

Hope everyone else is well!

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 11/12/2008 09:27

morning 35 weeks today

hi nat - have read a couple of stories on mumsnet people saying it was really painful and they ached for a week after. i dont like the sound of that or the prodding

gyo - class sounds good and workshop

kay - lol @ dream

hi cosmo

i am freezing must turm heating back on in a min

have paid of some of the rest of my verbaudet. they have sent green piggy bank, pink wall clock and baby socks plus i have 4 free bath capes.

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 11/12/2008 09:29

Morning Diege

re trip... Depends what you are doing in York, if just visiting friend then it might be ok but if shopping all day etc might be hard work and tiredness makes sickness worse...Assume its not easy to delay it til after xmas?..

Also say depends on friend. I'd talk to her too... If she doesnt migd you being ill its ok... I have phobia of others vomiting so wouldnt be very helpful if you needed to puke down an alley whilst out and about... - weird i know!

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 09:30

I would say go if you can Diege. York is so lovely this time of year. Would having a bottle of water with you help?

Need a question answering please.
I think I am leaking fluid. I've had to put a pad in. Its leaking very slowly. Do you think I should tell MW this morning when I see her?

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 11/12/2008 09:30

not that you are coming to see me, but my point was about how sympathetic your friend is!

tinkisabigpinksparklybauble · 11/12/2008 09:35

oh yes definetly mention to mw kay hope it is the start of something

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 11/12/2008 09:41

Agree Kay, definitely tell midwife!! Oooh exciting .
Thanks for advice Kay, GYO. She is a lovely friend, a lot older than me, and I think she would be OK with the puking - more me feeling a bit (well a lot) self conscious about throwing up in her bathroom! We would bioth be getting the train up to York together, and we have planned on modifying the usual 8 hour shopping session. A couple of shops, lots of breaks, a look at the ice sculptures and then x-factor. I'm feeling it's a bit of a challenge, but having said that might be easier than weekend at home with dds and dh (thinking lie-in!)
Morning TINK! Sounds like you had some good freebies there with your order. Mine actually arrived last Sunday, although half of order out of stock...

storkycake · 11/12/2008 10:06

Nat I'm against ECV because there are other things less invasive, that you can do to try to turn the baby.

Go and see an Acupuncturist as soon as possible to start Moxibustion. It's a bunch of twigs/herbs that is burnt under your feet. It's success rate is extremely high 80-90% I've read somewhere, doesn't hurt, just stinks. It will turn him, I've never known it fail for anyone yet.

I personally would actually birth breech than have someone fiddle on, but that's because my sister birthed her 1st baby breech and it was amazing.
The doctors had no clue what to do, but the m/w's did and took over entirely. They wanted her to have an EMCS, but her waters had broken and by the time she realised she was in labour (35 weeks) she was too far gone when arriving at the hospital. Baby needed nothing on arrival!
I suppose she was lucky that the m/w were experienced and not newbie's.

The risks are small of damage to the baby from ecv (1-2%), but the way I look at it is, if you wouldn't have opted for amnio then why would you risk this? but that's my personal view.
The ecv can turn the baby successfully and I think there's something like a 50% chance he'll stay there for the duration, 'course that also means he might not, he could turn breech again!

So there you have it Nat, why I wouldn't opt for ecv
Lots to think about I'm sure for you over the next few days.

Oh, and it is meant to hurt like buggery!

Hi to everyone Good Luck to Kay I really hope it's today!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 11/12/2008 10:31

Morning all!!! Dont think i can properly catch up... just starting to feel a bit more human this morning... DH was pandering over me last night, went and got chinese for tea so i didn't have to cook (as he's useless in the kitchen and knows it) then was bringing me painkillers and waters all evening... although i had to cope the last 2 days with him at work he more than made up for it with cuddles and pampering in the evenings!!

Have managed to not take painkillers this morning and am planning a little walk to the local shops this morning so i'm MUCH better!!

It all started on saturday really, MIL came, by about 10am DS was looking a bit white in the face, not his normal self, a bit of a temp to the touch... didn't manage much at all for lunch, gave him calpol in the afternoon and before bed... oh and the brakes went on the car so we had to have it towed back home on the saturday (stupid F*%$ing thing) then he didn't eat anything for tea either... sunday morning both kids were a bit peaky... both were on calpol for the day, sunday night both were sick, DS slept in our bed with DH, and i slept in DC's room with DD, she was being sick every 10-15mins all night, poor thing. Then on monday DD was still being sick till about 4pm, then i started being sick on monday afternoon too. Monday night developed a migrane aswell, DH was also sick a bit in the night... tuesday i was still sick and suffering a migrane and Dh had to go to work yesterday was just suffering with the migrane really... then here i am today!!! Hopefully thats all our bugs out of the way before xmas now!!

KAY- hope the leaking is the start of it for you!!

NAT- glad your out of hospital now... i dont think i'd have a ECV myself, a friend went for it, said it hurt like hell and it didn't even work, baby turned on her own the week later.

COSMO- i've had leaking colostrum since about 17wks... only leaks on its own when i'm in the bath... but been able to squeeze a bit out since about 12wks pg... but i'm gathering it was there so early becasue i've BF before?? if thats just made up ignore me!!haha

everyone else- HIYA!!!!

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 11/12/2008 10:34

I think that's great advice SORKY - I didn't realise that complemtary medicine could be so effective. At least NAT will be totally infomed when making her decision!

Dare I say I might be turning a corner with my sickness???Was very sick yesterday, and woke up very nauseous this morning (usually it strikes later) but have felt gradually better as the morning progresses. Have very sore throat and cough, but feel more like myself then I have done for weeks!!! I may even contemplate washing my hair!

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 11/12/2008 10:37

x-posts GLASK! Glad you're feeling better. Had same here with dd3, though no as bad as you and yours. DD3 still off nursery but she hasn't been sick since yesterday so touch wood on the mend!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 11/12/2008 10:47

oh tell me about 'washing your hair' Diege- i've been the same for the last 18 weeks!!! my hair has been so neglected since i've been sick!! I've been jumping in the shower purely to clean myself... and thats it, quick in and out, my hair hasn't seen conditioner since i was 4 wks pregnant!!

Cosmogirl · 11/12/2008 11:05

Diege - I read York as New York for some unknown reason! York is much more sensible tho . Have to admit when the sickness was really bad I became a prisoner in my own home, and even though I'm much better now, I still get a bit nervous about social events etc.. Oddly though, I always seem to manage quite well. I think my body must go on to autopilot and know it 'has' to behave, iykwim. So, it might well do you good, and as long as your friend keeps it relaxed and goes at your pace, should be fine. And, the fact that you seem up for it, is the biggest sign to me that you are ready for this type of outing.

Re: hair washing; that brings back some memories... Think I went a few days without showering/washing hair as just couldn't bear to be in the shower.

RuDiegetheRedNosedReinDiege · 11/12/2008 11:06

LOL, I'm glad I'm not the only one Glask . I have decided to put mine off again until tomorrow ; just seems like far too much effort! I have also been having minimal washes ; just a quick dip in bath every few nights...

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 11/12/2008 11:12

Makes me Laugh as some people have started commenting on my 'pregnant glow' recently.... I said to Dh it's not a pregnant glow, its a 'not washed properly in nearly 4 mths' glow!! Oh well- the things we put up with to get these precious little darlings of ours!!

Have just looked on that sweets site- think i'm gonna have to buy DH one of the very large retro hampers... will set me back about £100 but he's worth it i suppose!!

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 11/12/2008 11:33

right i'm off to get the DC's dressed and get to the local shops... then hopefully i can get some lovely ham from the butcher to make butties with for lunch!!

and have finally bought dds present on amazon from the baby a colour aquadraw. she has normal one that just writes in blue and plays on it for hours.

storkycake · 11/12/2008 12:41

Hello Glask lovely to have you bak with us and feeling marginally better.

Diege I would love a trip to York!

Anyone heard from Kay? she's usually about a bit more than this, hopefully it's all kicked off in her womb!

That sweet site she linked to is lethal. I didn't realise you could buy the boxes of Bassetti liquorice for a start.
Flying saucers, sherbet fountains, cola cubes.....

Well Xmas party yesterday left me a bit sore, add to it a sleepless night and then an Art group this morning and I'm now crocked for the rest of the day.
I've used my trump card and pleaded with Dh to come home and look after them, which he is doing thank the Gods!
Hopefully the Chiro tomorrow will set me back on the right track 'cos it feels like I'm back where I started atm.

Oh, and my mum has just told me that my little dog whom they're looking after atm has died .

I think I'll buy some of those sweets....
