LB, we have done the opposite now I'm not at work. DS goes to bed at 7 instead of 8 and he was a bit grumpy the first few nights but after that he was fine. He'll sometimes lie in his cot and chatter to himself for a while but he is always asleep by half 7.

I have a question too.....

The maternity ward I am going to have DS2 at closes one day a week. If I go into labour that day I need to go to Scarborough(boo hiss). Only thing is MW said to ring labour ward when contractions are between 5-10 minutes apart. If I wait until then I probably won't get to Scarborough. It takes 30-45 minutes to get there in good weather.
So if I ring and they are closed what do you suggest I do?

sorkycake · 03/12/2008 09:26

If that was me and I was def in labour on the day the local unit was closed I would ring 999 and get blue-lighted to the Scarborough one, otherwise you could end up with a BBA.

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 09:28

BBA's are very normal round here. At least 1 a month, normally in the back of cars in layby's.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 03/12/2008 09:34

wow- i really x-posted there- that'll teach me that i can't text and type at the same time!!

Kayz- i'd probs go once contractions got to about 7mins apart myself... thoguh whenever i've been in labour i've only been 5mins apart at the longest....

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 03/12/2008 09:35

So sorry Sorky, I knew I'd get at least one mixed up Fingers crossed for the home visit, I don't see how they can refuse when you've officially been put on bed rest (though the more bitter side of me says nothing would surprise me...! )

Diege, hoorah for feeling a bit better, it must make such a difference to your days

LB sorry DD has been poorly, it is crap when they are so down. I know for all the moaning I do about having two boys running around making noise and mess everywhere they go, I'd give a lot to see DS1 doing it now, instead of lying there not being able to move.

Ses, that was really sweet of your cousin

Right, whose got the mars bars?

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 03/12/2008 09:35

Glask, hope your dream was just wierd and not scary or upsetting.

Also can someone tell me what is an egg custard??!

lardybump · 03/12/2008 09:37

I would also call 999 if the ward was closed...

I am dreaming of getting a p&t but dp would like us to try and manage if we can so I am getting a buggy board to go onto the pushchair. If it doesn't work and dd insists on trying to run off then we are going to get one...... So in a way I am hoping she is naughty just this once .

I didn't get spd last time so didn't know much about it at all.... But boy do I know about it now..... When I was at the clinic the other day there was a lady there that had it so bad she was in a wheelchair... I am so glad that I am not that bad I would never manage with dd...

Diege · 03/12/2008 09:41

Ooh SES you don't know you've lived without experiencing an egg custard. Right [typing from the empty box of 2 which is in front if me]Is it similar to a custrad tart but much creamier - morelike a creme brulee in pastry (OK, maybe that makes it sound better than it is). To quote 'Shortcrust pastry filled with egg custard and sprinkled with nutmeg'. They are very good for settling the tummy, and they are my new 'thing' . 2 for 99p from Morrisons . They'll be lots of them in Eastbourne, trust me, the old people love them

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 09:41

LB, P&T's are wonderful!! I love ours and can't wait to be able to use it with baby too. Then if you decide to have a 3rd you can still use it.

I'll have to ring 999 then. I was wondering if I could get them to send me a MW but knowing the NHS they wouldn't.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 03/12/2008 09:41

Kay, I think it depends on how the labour started, if your waters went but no imediate contractions then you'd have plenty of time to get there without blue lights, if it just started out of no where and it was going too quickly then 999 it is, especially with you not having easy access to a car. You might get your home birth afterall

Egg custard, custard with eggs, t'is yummy, but also food of devil, it gives me heartburn beyond all and anything else.

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 09:42

MW said I have under an hour to get to hospital when my waters break.

Egg Custards are horrible!!!

lardybump · 03/12/2008 09:43

I have been eating mince pies and pain au chocolate's like they are going out of fashion for the last month... I just dont seem to get enought lard at the moment. I think my body goes into primative mode and thinks that as soon as I am pg i must store up fat because it may be a while before I eat once baby is born...... he he

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 03/12/2008 09:45
NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 03/12/2008 09:45

MW talking crap, she has no idea how your labour will go, I know you said that established labour was 4 hours last time, but if you have a long run up again you'll know something is happening way before the established bit starts. Of course it could go the over way and he'll be out in 10 minutes, in which case, you'd be no worse off than anyone else in that situation, there wouldn't be many people who could get to a hospital in that space of time! Can you tell it annoys me when MW's just assume things and put the fear of god into people for no reason?!

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 03/12/2008 09:46

Btw, I've never had an egg custard!! I'll have to have a look out for them but they don't sound that appealing. I prefer LB's diet of mince pies and chocolate

sorkycake · 03/12/2008 09:46

Can you not get the m/w to come and speak to you n Dh about this as I do think you'd be better off with a hb. Maybe she could allay some of his fears.
I would imagine he'd freak a lot more when the ambulance turns up.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 03/12/2008 09:47

Ses, t'is no good hiding them, I can sniff them out Have a good day

Am actually going to go and make some crumpets, never mind mars bars, I need some proper bad fats and salts!

sorkycake · 03/12/2008 09:51

egg custard tarty things are disgusting!

Mince pies any day!

Nat I agree, they're full of crap sometimes. The only time they predicted anything that came true for me during any pregnancy was the last one. She said that my labour would likely go off like a rocket once it started because I'd had days of on/off pre-labour. She was right.

Oh, hang on, this current m/w said my spd would get so bad I wouldn't be able to walk....hmm, she was right as well.

God can't they predict anything good like the lottery numbers or a pay rise?

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 03/12/2008 09:53

i love egg custards, i've been known to buy a large on from hampsons in a morning and have finished it all myself before tea time!!

Ses- dreams were a bit scary, but in a wierd way.... i had a dream that my cupboard under the stairs was like the size of another house, but it was all just empty and old, full of cobwebs and spiders and i needed to get something out but the spiders kept jumping on me and biting me.. so i got a big stick and my hoover and was trying to whack them and hoover them up... Then another was going bowling with all my extended family, cousins, aunts, DH's friends, and the bowling shoes were full of gunge and i couldn't put my feet in them, and then another was i was at my grandparents house and her garden was like a big maze, and there were nasty camels trying to eat me so i had to punch them out of my way, and killer crocs that i had to kick in the head then use as stepping stones across a river!!

all very odd... but thinking it might be becasue i'd just turned off 'I'm a celeb' before i fell asleep....

kayzisexpecting · 03/12/2008 09:54

I think we are going to have to look at a hb.
If it starts like DS's then I know what is happening but if like the MW says my waters break and then he is here in an hour, he might be born in my mums car.

DH just said to me "Does that mean we don't have to go the hospital?" Bless his cotton socks.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 03/12/2008 09:55
sorkycake · 03/12/2008 09:58

hurrah for hb Kay. what does Dh think?

I reckon it might be for the best. imagine the stress you'll feel under thinking what day is it? which place am i going to? will i make it in time?

will there be a pool at this much anticipated hb?

OP posts:
glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 03/12/2008 09:59

Kay- go for a HB- no worrying then, you know where he'll be born and know you're prepared no matter what....

lardybump · 03/12/2008 09:59

While I have you all here. There is something that is bothering me.... My waters broke with dd on the Tuesday afternon but labour didn't start properly until thursday. I had to go to hospital every six hours between so they could do a trace and check everything was ok. It was during one of these checks that contractions started so they kept me in from early labour as I had been driving back and forth for days...

So if I go into labour at home when do I call hospital and when do I look at going in?????
